Chicken is juicy and crispy made to perfection everytime and the mild sauce is soo good. Lately the dinner rolls have been hard and cold so I stopped adding them to my order. They are a bit expensive though. read more

I called to make an order and immediately the young lady that answered the phone cut me off and said "we don't take phone orders you have to do it online or the app" .. cool ok. Goes online, checks out menu, proceeds to place order and we get an error message saying "The store is closed". Well, we called back and the same young lady very rudely responds after she was told what the problem was "well it's working fine over here, maybe it's your phone". Mind you, we tried it on 2 devices and both gave the same response. So after we alerted her of this she says "well I don't know".. SO UNPROFESSIONAL!!! So I made an order with Harold's chicken Shack. I Don't care how good your food is, it won't subject me to accepting bad customer service. TRAIN YOUR WORKERS!! read more

just saw a segment on Man Greatest Food-Chicken, with Roger Mooking, today 4/6/2022 and I had never heard of this restaurant in Chicago and I am looking forward to making a visit in the near future. The segment looked great and the customers looked happy and satisfied with their choice. If a restaurant makes to any of the Cook channel series and it's close by, I'm visiting. When they handed me my food I did not expect it to still be sizzling lol. I opened my tin filled with all these beautiful pieces of chicken and it was so hot and crispy I wanted to cry. I instantly began eating because I was extremely hungry. I don't regret it one bit. Uncle Remus stood true to their name. This chicken was amazing. I do suggest calling ahead if you don't already know. Whatever you do give Uncle Remus a visit soon! read more

I never have a hard time when I order on line or in store been coming here over 30yrs. I love you it

They food is good. It has its days and it expensive asl. But yall need to fix yall app. Every time I put in my card info its always telling me that my shit is decline and put it a valid one like HELLO!! I only use one mf card. Then another day it would work right. Please fix the app. read more

food was very tasty service was good it was just a long line that's all. I will eat here again!!

Uncle Remus makes amazing fried chicken and they definitely are generous with the mild sauce. The mild sauce is a bit sweeter than most, but i thought it was amazing. Amazing value for the quality and quantity of the chicken. They don't start cooking the food until you come in I believe, but I'd still call ahead. The service was great, the rolls, and side of fries tasted real good and the chicken was crunchy, had a good amount of meat on it, and fell right off the bone. Highly recommend. read more

Every time I come here it's always a problem, they give horrible service and they always have an attitude. Like why am I even coming here? There's way better places in the west and south side. They run out of fries and biscuits all the time!!! How does a chicken restaurant who's known for they're chicken, fries, and biscuits run out of the two main components to your restaurant? I absolutely hate coming here and I never will again. I hope the owner of general manager does something about this because you're definitely losing money!!! And they're chicken got smaller and the prices went up.. I'm good on all that!!! Y'all gonna prosper tho cus mfs too lazy to actually go somewhere else‍ read more

Best mild sauce in the city. Prices have gone up over the years but I still go whenever I'm visiting Chicago because the taste is worth it. Call ahead if you can (if they still allow it anyway) because you're going to have to wait since they drop the chicken to order. AND Get the roll with your meal its worth it. read more

Great love the chicken wings, I wish they delivered to Oak Park.

best chicken ever. I love this place. Anytime i want chicken Uncle Remus is the first place that comes to mind. Guys please if you haven't tried their chicken yet, you need to tun there ASAP. Thank me later read more

if you visit this establishment please ask for freshly made chicken. I purchased $50.00 of chicken today 10/12/23 @ 11:30am. The restaurant opens at 11:00am. I was served chicken from last night leftovers. Their policy is if your food is not of satisfaction bring back to store with receipt. I was not compensated for my purchase because I drove from the southside of Chicago to drop off lunch for elderly family member. A waste of time and money. Horrible!!!! read more

I ordered the Monday special- Whole Chicken with fries and mild sauce for under 10 bucks! Yummy, yum, yum. Next time I'm in Chicago I will be visiting. read more

Okay........I am not ashamed to say I like Uncle Remus better than Harold's Chicken. Being born and raised on the southside of Chicago, I was sheltered from trying a lot of foods on the westside. In 2006, an ex-girlfriend, who was from the westside, brought me some of this stuff and I have been hooked eversince. The sauce is sweeter and they give you a roll instead of a slice of bread. The only reason I won't give this place 5 stars is because sometimes the women behind the glass, taking your order sometimes needs an attitude adjustment. There has even been times where they would run out of chicken. (Imagine that) Harold's I still love you, and we have been together for a looooooong time, but on the actual taste side of things Uncle Remus has the slight edge. read more

Great no frills, take out chicken. I found it searching Yelp for a new place to try after 10pm on a weeknight. I was able to park right out front and when I walked in it was empty. This led me to question my decision to drive over. But I placed my order anyway and just as I turned to walk away from the window, I noticed a line had formed behind me. I was happy to see its popularity and happy to have been ahead of the crowd when ordering. As I waited for my ordered, I came across a poster which lists the various locations in the Chicagoland area. For anyone who lives here, you would agree that many establishments cater to certain areas or parts of the city. I found it interesting that there are both west and southside locations. After dodging a few beggars posted up at the door, I retreated to my car and made it home to dig in. The chicken was very tasty and hot. The fries were fresh and flavorful. As with all Chicago based chicken establishments, it was drenched in "sauce" which is just okay IMO. But the place is a welcomed addition to my late night bites repertoire. read more

When you walk in and see the old wood wall planks and inhale the musty smell of dust, you salivate because the food must be good here. I was right about that. I ordered their Saturday special: $4.99 for a 3 piece chicken (mixed - thigh and drumstick) with a choice of 1 side and a roll of bread with mild sauce on the side. The Chicken- Crunchy skin and tender meat. The best part was dipping the chicken in their mild sauce (sweet taste and tangy). Man! There was an explosion or something of flavor in my mouth. So good. Fried Okra- Slimey on the inside and crunchy on the outside. *Beware! If paying with credit card, they want to see an I.D. Or else they won't take the form of payment. read more

I've always been a fan of Uncle Remus chicken every since high school. The chicken is still good, and the mild sauce is still finger licking good. However, I just visited this location, and the prices are unbelievable. $10 for 6 chicken wings. I could not believe my eyes, and was not sure if my brain was processing the information correctly. So I had to say it out loud for the other patrons to agree or disagree. I said got damn those prices are high. No one joined my protest. I walked up to the window and asked for the Saturday special, That consisted of 1 leg, thigh, breast, fries, and a dinner roll for $4.99. I waited 30 minutes for my order to be called. I was hoping the increase in price would've decreased the wait time. However, I rather have my chicken fully cooked then cooked on the outside and raw on the inside. Overall, Uncle Remus still has the same great tasting chicken. No one can compare to Uncle Remus. read more

The chicken is bomb! I had the chicken wings and fries. The fries are just ok, but the chicken goes hard. I had leftover wings and the skin is still crispy the next day!! I warmed it in the microwave, so you know that crunch is legit. I look forward to coming back. read more

My experience wasn't the best on 2/11/2023. The hostess was sort of rude and pushy. Also, asked for no sauce on both orders, get home it was sauce on one of my orders. Their mixed chicken is not the best. Also, they don't provide plastic bags to carry your food out. I was shocked. I should have followed my first thought and went to Popeyes. 20.00 gone down the drain. read more

This was my first time visiting toUncle Remus . For starters the four wings was fried to hard with no seasoning all I could taste was the sauce. I didn't want fried, instead I ordered fried Okra, it to was fried to hard no seasoning and to much batter and the dinner rolls was cold. I wouldn't recommend this place with COVID-19 or not the worst wings and okra I ever tasted. This is what you get for been lazy and not cooking at home. No more grease for me. read more

I would like to share my experience on Christmas Eve with the location on Madison & Central. I placed an order for 2 Game Day pans of chicken which is a dark meat mixed order. The total came $132.28. I placed the order at an about 12pm on the App. to give myself and the restaurant ample time to prepare the order. Well to my surprise at 7:44pm I get 2 text message telling me my order is ready for pick up.then another text with my receipt Upon my arrival I am told by a young man with a Jamaican accent that my order had been cancelled and my money was refunded. He told me my order was cancelled because they didn't have enough dark meat. He also stated that he called twice with no answer but a voice mailed was left . Unfortunately the message could not be understood. It sounded like a recorded message with a broken tape. So what good did any of that do for the customer if I never received any of these last minute efforts to contact me. I think the worst part of this whole incident is that the young man had a very nonchanlant attitude. He did not even try to offer any solutions. He said that they only had wings. My Orginal order was for mixed chicken. If I only wanted wings I would have ordered wings. He stated that this is how the refund process works when you order thru the App. I am sure they knew well in advance if they would have enough chicken to fill the order.if not that creates another problem. It's sad that no compassion was shown to the me given that this order was cancelled due to no fault of mine. Also I was short on the numbers of pieces of chicken that I needed due to their inefficiency's Thanks to the kindess of another customer i was told about a promotion on the App That I purchased due to the short notice. Unfortunately this is why black people complain about the customer service that we receive in our businesses. The bottom line is that he put me the customer in a bad position . Where would I be able to get more chicken at 8pm on Christmas Eve? I try to support black owned but Dam!! This incident has made me not want to deal with Uncle Remus anymore . read more

Excellent! My favorite place to get my chicken with the mild sauce that is the best I've had. People compare Uncle Remus and Harold's Chicken often. Harold's caters more toward the south side/suburbs of Chicago whereas Uncle Remus caters more so toward the west side and Northside of Chicago. However, having had both, the QUALITY of the chicken at Uncle Remus and how it's made along with the sauce is better at all of the west side/west suburb locations. Uncle Remus on 47th street on the south side is ok. Could be much better. I prefer and recommend first timers going to the original locations on the west side on Madison. The owner Charmaine is very friendly, personable, and will ensure people will have a pleasant experience. I'm a ComEd Engineering employee as well and we frequently order in bulk from here to serve and department or management gatherings. Must visit! read more

This used to be my favorite chicken in the world! But the service sucks, the chicken isn't as crispy as it used to be, AND they have lost their minds with the pricing. Why are we paying $11.51 for 6 wings? Why does everyone who take the orders have an attitude? What's the point of calling in your order, only to have to wait an additional 20-30 minutes to receive your food? Smdh, I just don't know what has happened to this place. read more

This place is GHETTO! ALWAYS people hanging out or around the restaurant. Cops literally sit there with the lights on When I visited the staff spent more time talking to each other rather than getting orders out. The woman taking orders seemed to have an attitude I literally watched a drug deal happen infront of me while I was waiting for my food. That's weird to see while ur waiting for chicken lol The sauce is good but I think it's overpriced. The front area is small, looks dirty but at least they had heat. read more

Looking ahead to Chicago, I've learned that mild sauce was on of the things I had to try. Found this place on Chicago's best, which always isn't the case. The chicken was ok. The mild sauce definitely brought it to life. It tasted almost like a duck sauce or sweet and sour sauce. Got here early to make sure my order was fresh. Good not great I could've lived without it. This place is take out only so if you try it be prepared to grab and go and it's in the hood so take from that what you will. Lol read more

I used to love Uncle Remus. I grew up on the west side and they were always a staple in my family. But sadly I will not be returning. I got a 6 wing and paid $12.00 for it. I asked for extra mild sauce and was informed that would be an additional $1.50 the roll was $. 49. There is a difference between making pricing decisions to help your business and outwardly exploiting your customers. I am very disappointed and will not be returning. read more
