I called to make an order and immediately the young lady that answered the phone cut me off and said "we don't take phone orders you have to do it online or the app" .. cool ok. Goes online, checks out menu, proceeds to place order and we get an error message saying "The store is closed". When they handed me my food I did not expect it to still be sizzling lol. I opened my tin filled with all these beautiful pieces of chicken and it was so hot and crispy I wanted to cry. I instantly began eating because I was extremely hungry. I don't regret it one bit. Uncle Remus stood true to their name. This chicken was amazing. Uncle Remus makes amazing fried chicken and they definitely are generous with the mild sauce. The mild sauce is a bit sweeter than most, but i thought it was amazing. Amazing value for the quality and quantity of the chicken. They don't start cooking the food until you come in I believe, but I'd still call ahead. The service was great, the rolls, and side of fries tasted real good and the chicken was crunchy, had a good amount of meat on it, and fell right off the bone. Highly recommend. read more

Every time I come here it's always a problem, they give horrible service and they always have an attitude. Like why am I even coming here? There's way better places in the west and south side. Best mild sauce in the city. Prices have gone up over the years but I still go whenever I'm visiting Chicago because the taste is worth it. Okay........I am not ashamed to say I like Uncle Remus better than Harold's Chicken. Being born and raised on the southside of Chicago, I was sheltered from trying a lot of foods on the westside. In 2006, an ex-girlfriend, who was from the westside, brought me some of this stuff and I have been hooked eversince. The sauce is sweeter and they give you a roll instead of a slice of bread. The only reason I won't give this place 5 stars is because sometimes the women behind the glass, taking your order sometimes needs an attitude adjustment. There has even been times where they would run out of chicken. Great no frills, take out chicken. I found it searching Yelp for a new place to try after 10pm on a weeknight. I was able to park right out front and when I walked in it was empty. This led me to question my decision to drive over. But I placed my order anyway and just as I turned to walk away from the window, I noticed a line had formed behind me. I was happy to see its popularity and happy to have been ahead of the crowd when ordering. As I waited for my ordered, I came across a poster which lists the various locations in the Chicagoland area. For anyone who lives here, you would agree that many establishments cater to certain areas or parts of the city. I found it interesting that there are both west and southside locations. After dodging a few beggars posted up at the door, I retreated to my car and made it home to dig in. The chicken was very tasty and hot. The fries were fresh and flavorful. I've always been a fan of Uncle Remus chicken every since high school. The chicken is still good, and the mild sauce is still finger licking good. However, I just visited this location, and the prices are unbelievable. $10 for 6 chicken wings. I could not believe my eyes, and was not sure if my brain was processing the information correctly. So I had to say it out loud for the other patrons to agree or disagree. I said got damn those prices are high. No one joined my protest. I walked up to the window and asked for the Saturday special, That consisted of 1 leg, thigh, breast, fries, and a dinner roll for $4.99. I waited 30 minutes for my order to be called. I was hoping the increase in price would've decreased the wait time. However, I rather have my chicken fully cooked then cooked on the outside and raw on the inside. I would like to share my experience on Christmas Eve with the location on Madison & Central. I placed an order for 2 Game Day pans of chicken which is a dark meat mixed order. The total came $132.28. I placed the order at an about 12pm on the App. to give myself and the restaurant ample time to prepare the order. Well to my surprise at 7:44pm I get 2 text message telling me my order is ready for pick up.then another text with my receipt Upon my arrival I am told by a young man with a Jamaican accent that my order had been cancelled and my money was refunded. He told me my order was cancelled because they didn't have enough dark meat. He also stated that he called twice with no answer but a voice mailed was left . Unfortunately the message could not be understood. It sounded like a recorded message with a broken tape. So what good did any of that do for the customer if I never received any of these last minute efforts to contact me. I think the worst part of this whole incident is that the young man had a very nonchanlant attitude. He did not even try to offer any solutions. He said that they only had wings. My Orginal order was for mixed chicken. If I only wanted wings I would have ordered wings.He stated that this is how the refund process works when you order thru the App. I am sure they knew well in advance if they would have enough chicken to fill the order.if not that creates another problem. It's sad that no compassion was shown to the me given that this order was cancelled due to no fault of mine. Also I was short on the numbers of pieces of chicken that I needed due to their inefficiency's Thanks to the kindess of another customer i was told about a promotion on the App That I purchased due to the short notice. Unfortunately this is why black people complain about the customer service that we receive in our businesses. The bottom line is that he put me the customer in a bad position . Excellent! My favorite place to get my chicken with the mild sauce that is the best I've had. People compare Uncle Remus and Harold's Chicken often. Harold's caters more toward the south side/suburbs of Chicago whereas Uncle Remus caters more so toward the west side and Northside of Chicago. However, having had both, the QUALITY of the chicken at Uncle Remus and how it's made along with the sauce is better at all of the west side/west suburb locations. Uncle Remus on 47th street on the south side is ok. Could be much better. I prefer and recommend first timers going to the original locations on the west side on Madison. The owner Charmaine is very friendly, personable, and will ensure people will have a pleasant experience. I'm a ComEd Engineering employee as well and we frequently order in bulk from here to serve and department or management gatherings. Must visit! read more

Looking ahead to Chicago, I've learned that mild sauce was on of the things I had to try. Found this place on Chicago's best, which always isn't the case. The chicken was ok. The mild sauce definitely brought it to life. It tasted almost like a duck sauce or sweet and sour sauce. Got here early to make sure my order was fresh. Good not great I could've lived without it. I used to love Uncle Remus. I grew up on the west side and they were always a staple in my family. But sadly I will not be returning. I got a 6 wing and paid $12.00 for it. I asked for extra mild sauce and was informed that would be an additional $1.50 the roll was $. 49.
