I recently had the best time at UJ's. A celebration with my son and friends was met with a fun, fresh and authentic foodie experience. We started with amazing drinks, unique and packed a punch. Then we had table side guacamole that was perfect and super fresh. Followed by the best tamales I have had in a while, light fluffy and flavorful. And the PERFECT ending is the chocolate pinata! A chocolate globe filled with chocolate empanadas, churro's and strawberries and a small bat to break open the sweet goodness! What an amazing way to complete this gathering. Perfect for special occasions and just a simple date night. I live in PA but will visit UJ's every time I am in the Dallas area. Great job keep up the amazing service, food and fun. read more

Julio is a pretty good standby for Tex Mex and other things. I had the Fish tacos for the first time: only thing Mexican about them was the pico de gallo piled on top of a pretty hood grilled talapia. The better half had the honey grilled salmon, also not really Mexican but also was well received. On the plus side, great margaritas and a very attentive wait staff. Down side, do not go on there expecting to have any kind of conversation, very loud and that is kind of annoying. Still worth a trip every now and them. read more

Absolutely awful. I ordered carnitas tacos and my husband ordered chicken fajitas. For starters this place is WAY too expensive for the portions and especially for lunch. I came here every week with my family as a child and it used to be awesome. The pork wasn't chewable, it was rubbery and over cooked. The rice was bland and had no cilantro taste to it. The tacos themselves were pretty bland so I tried he sauce that came with them and holy cow it was disgusting. It was like they said "what all can we throw in a bowl?" And just went with that without tasting it. I'm a huge black bean fan even straight from the can and it tasted like they took black beans and put them in ranch bean sauce. The manager was nice and took that off but overall I'm very disappointed. Then to top off my experience my bill arrives with extra charges and the book is covered in animal hair! It's disgusting!! Not returning here ever and that's pretty sad because I like giving places second chances. Also as a side note to all restaurants, velveeta is not the way to make queso unless you are making it at home and don't care about quality. Learn to use shredded cheese! read more

The biggest reason this El Pasoan would want to go to this Mexican restaurant when there are plenty closer to my home is the consistent good quality. The portion size including the meat is plenty for my husband and I. I would recommend a platter to eat off of then take the rest home. You will need to request refried beans or else you will get Boracho or stewed beans. Try their Cozumel shrimp tacos also try the creamy hatch chili green sauce instead of the usual red. We went at lunchtime and it was busy. Our server was still attentive, nonetheless. He promptly gave us our drinks. I ordered fish tacos and my husband ordered the steak fajita. The steak fajita was great! However, my fish taco was bitter. There was too much charring on the fish. As soon as our server found out, he took it off our bill and asked what we'd like instead. Get the carne asada w/ sauteed veggies on top, trust me. This is some of the best carne asada I have ever had and I've spent nearly my whole life in LA where it is plentiful. The carne asada was crisp on the outside and juicy/tender on the inside. It was perfectly marinated and bursting with flavor. I barely paid attention to my rice and beans because I was mesmerized by the carne. The food is so salty it's inedible. I used to love Uncle Julio's but the quality has really taken a nosedive. The chicken tortilla soup is saltwater with no chicken and the fajitas lacked any seasoning other than salt. Wait time was extremely long. My family and I waited for 45 minutes before being seated, and during this wait time I noticed several parties that came after me were being seated before us. I checked in with the hosts only to realize that tables are assigned upon check in. Well the table assigned to me that guest was having an extremely long lunch, so while other tables that finish eating first goes to other parties that showed up after me. My server on the other hand was always in a hurry and never checked in on us to see if anything was needed and drinks not refilled. There was that strange dull moment of sitting around when you finish with your meal and ready to leave having to wait to wave down your server for you check. read more

Had an awesome visit to this location for lunch. We eat out one or two meals a day so we know a good waiter when we get one. Three out of the last four waiters were about one star. Today we finally got someone that was five star. Adam was awesome. We will now call ahead to make sure he is working. In past visits we never would go at night or weekends because we like certain plates on the lunch menu not offered in the evening. It has been like pulling teeth to get the Reynosa which is what my wife likes. One time even the manager came to tell us it was only offered at lunch. Adam made it happen on Saturday when lunch menu is not available. He should be running the place. Spent $80 for lunch. Might be worth keeping us as a customer. read more

This is one of our favorite Mexican food restaurants and we go here at least monthly if not more. Love their fajitas, chips, hot sauce, and queso. We were there last night and had Haley as our waitress and she did a great job. We always like a booth and they're very accommodating and never have to wait too long. Got a seat in the bar, where there was really no service. The waiter brought the standard chips and hot sauce to the table, with his thumb submerged in the bowl of hot sauce. It went downhill from there. Couldn't get the guy to bring me a water, he had no problem serving my guest water though. Waiter didn't seem to be the brightest bulb in the box, not attentive at all, actually pretty bad, and the bar wasn't that busy. The good: Ample parking, we were seated promptly. One of hostesses was smoking hot. Our waitress was pretty nice and attentive. The bad: Everything else. I lived in Mexico City for 18 years so I know what Mexican food should be like. This is expensive, greasy, poorly-prepared pseudo-Mexican food. We were hungry, had never been to this place, and decided to try it out because it smelled good and we didn't feel like any of the other chain places in the area. Though I mentioned that one of the hostesses was really cute and seemed nice, we got one who acted as if he could have been doing other, more fun things. We ignored him, we just needed to be shown to our table so I don't care if he doesn't like his job. Disappointment 1: We started by ordering pork tamales as an appetizer. You'd expect that, as an appetizer, they'd be pretty small. They're not. You get 4 big tamales that fill you up. They tasted decent, but were oddly cold in the center. Now homemade tamales can't be cold in the center, since they are prepared over hours in a steam cooker. So they were microwaving frozen tamales, probably the same kind you can buy at Sam's or at restaurant supply stores. At $8.99, they must be making a pretty good profit on these. The "salsa" that accompanied them was some sort of slop with ground meat that I had never seen before. Disappointment 2: My wife ordered beef flautas. A flauta is a rolled taco that's fried to the point of golden (just crispy on the outside). It should have shredded beef or chicken, and be served with a nice salsa, sour cream, lettuce, guacamole and refried beans. Instead, she got three extremely greasy (the tortilla was almost traslucent) tacos filled with the same mistery meat they use at Taco Bell, a bit of sour cream and some dried, tasteless rice. The mistery meat was dripping grease and was condimented to the point of not tasting like meat. These were $9 . Disappointment 3: I ordered the Tacos al Carbon. "We can't serve Pico because of the tomatoes with salmonella", our server said. Fine, they want to be careful, I thought, even though by now all other places are serving fresh tomatoes again. "So you can get sour cream or cheese instead". I've never heard of sour cream or cheese being a substitute for Pico except at Taco Bell. Whatever. The tacos arrived...the meat had a lot of fat and was not particularly good. It was fajita meat - if I wanted fajitas, I would have ordered the Fajitas. I should have read the menu more carefully I guess. The tortillas were still a bit raw, and they only give you two tacos plus a spoonful of dry rice, some guacamole, sour cream, beans and cheese. Again, I could have gone to Taco Bell for a Steak Quesadilla and have pretty much the same experience, except that the Steak Quesadilla is tastier. The Tacos al Carbon were about $15 if memory serves. Overall, really disappointing. The music was loud and bizarre - jumping from Caribbean to what sounded like reggaeton to Mexican. At least the food was served quickly and our waitress was nice, which seems to be a unique experience judging from the reviews here. But I can't believe I paid $40 for such a mediocre lunch when there were so many better options around the area. read more

I love the Plato Gordo...it's a great deal and quite tasty. The margarita's are awesome, but quite expensive. They have homemade tortillas, which is a must for any TexMex that I will eat. They don't take reservations, but you can call ahead and put your name on the list. read more

Uncle Julio's...the name used to mean a lot...anymore, the food was ok, the service was ok, the prices are getting fairly steep...there are better values..like, On the Border, Anna's in Bedford, and Miguelitos...and, Esparza's in Grapevine...Just not impressed with the high prices on average Mexican food. read more

Service was very slow despite the restaurant was almost empty. When the food arrived after 1 hour it was cold. One of my guests was smothered in beans and some food was missing. So many Mexican food restaurants in the area are clearly lacking on quality, hoping to succeed solely on the strength of their margaritas and free chips. Uncle Julio's Carne Asada could easily be the best in the metroplex, their smoky salsa is among the best in the area, and their homemade tortillas leave absolutely nothing to be desired. However, I do have a slightly different philosophy on chips. They serve a wafer thin tortilla chip which is flavorful but lacks the body of a chip which might better serve the salsa. read more

We arrived here with our 2 young boys, myself and my husband. To say it was an amazing experience would be an understatement. This is by far the best mexican restaurant i have ever visited. The prices were fair considering the amount of food you get. I even stepped out of my comfort zone and ordered the flautas. They were absolutely delicious. So full of flavor! My husband ordered the filet mignon tacos and the filet was so tender he was able to cut through it with a fork like butter. We will most definitely be coming back! Fine Tex-Mex place, and very accommodating for larger groups (in our case, about 25). Personally, their seasoning on the beef items was a notch above similar restaurants I've visited (and I eat at a LOT of Mexican/New Mexican/Tex-Mex places) and was duly noted. Stopped by for lunch about 2:00 on a Sunday. Restaurant was not very busy at all! Customer service was horrible! Waited 30 minutes for our lunch and then my lunch had a bug in it! Waiter took it back and said he would bring out another salad, which is what I ordered. After waiting 20 more minutes for my salad, we decided to leave. Spoke with the manager who said we didn't have to pay for the meal which was fine but you would think when a meal is sent back they would make it a priority in getting it out! Server was not friendly at all! Will not visit the Grapevine location again! read more
