Since there's a Tex Mex restaurant on pretty much every street corner here, it's not an easy feat to stand out from the crowd. Yet, for the longest time, Baja Mex Grill did just that by serving the strongest margaritas in town. In fact, I had always heard that there was a limit of 2 per person. Although it may have only been a rumor, it was a good policy nonetheless (I speak from experience!) Even if margaritas weren't your thing, the food still held it's own. Basically, you couldn't go wrong with a visit here no matter your preferences. I don't know exactly when or how many times the ownership changed over the years, but apart from the name, nothing about this place is the same today. It was immediately evident upon being served chips and queso that both seemed like they came straight from a package. The extra hot salsa we requested turned out to be a creamy, green concoction that had a jalapeno-y flavor, but somehow still wasn't spicy. I will give them credit, however, for a very tasty regular salsa that appeared to be made in house. For my entree I ordered the Picante Enchiladas. Contrary to what the name implies there was no detectable heat. Furthermore, the grilled chicken on top had the distinct flavor of a frozen version made by Kroger. Once again, that prepackaged element reared it's ugly head. My husband and sons were mostly underwhelmed by their meals as well. The phrase "I've had better" was echoed around the table. And, they aren't normally a picky bunch! Our server brought everything out quickly, checked on us often, and kept our drinks topped up throughout our meal. So kudos to him! I have said this before, but it bears repeating. The Tex Mex arena is far too competitive for mediocre food like they serve here. It's a shame that a place I once considered to be 4-5 star establishment barely earns 3 stars now. read more

Bar only review. No happy hour is offered and house margaritas are $13. Virtually every establishment within 5 blocks, including the historic spots on Main Street offer fantastic appetizer and drink specials. The bar only had one person at it the entire time we were there approximately 5:30 pm. HH will not only fill your bar but also bolster your dinner business (3 tables dining). They are best known for their margaritas, or "bajaritas" and I'm not kidding when I say every single person at the restaurant was drinking a bajarita. We sat at the bar and only had about 45 minutes to eat. We ordered margs which came out quickly and ordered our meal. It was at the table in less than 15 minutes. During our mini college gals reunion in DFW area over Memorial Weekend, we went to this restaurant to try some of the best Tex Mex in Grapevine! I had the Chicken Enchiladas Suizas and it was so fresh! Loved that they added so many fresh veggies to the dish. They were pretty busy that eve and they accidentally brought me a skinny mezcal margarita w/o the mezcal but they quickly fixed it. I forgot my reunion t-shirt in Austin (doh!) and just for grins I bought their $25 black t-shirt that said "I need a HUGe margarita" which was really cute. read more

This was my first time eating here, but I came with people who have eaten here before the new ownership so you can take my review with a grain of salt. I thought the food was good. It wasn't anything crazy but it definitely wasn't bad. The people I came with who have eaten here before were very disappointed. I think the new ownership has affected a lot of the little things that people get nostalgic about with restaurants like decor, margaritas being unmixed now, different chips, no more cilantro lime rice, etc. They were all a little underwhelmed with their food, namely the fajita chicken which they thought was a little under seasoned but overall, i felt the service was fine and the food was decent. Omg!!! The drinks here is bomb!!! I had the midori margarita and it was not overly sweet and you can't tell that it's strong. After I finished the drink, it hit me!!!! We had the beef fajita to share and it was great and enough portion for two! I asked our waiter for some spicy salsa and he brought out this creamy green sauce. Omg! It was soooo tasty and spicy! This place doesn't look like much, but it's definitely worth a stop. In all fairness, I was running a half marathon the next day, so I purposely had to select some blander food and didn't do much of the chips and queso. That said, their salsa is delicious and has some heat to it, which I would've appreciated more had I not been running the next day. The queso with chorizo was also decent. I ended up doing the lettuce wrap tacos, which were fine. The rice and beans were nice. The chicken was definitely the highlight: I was surprised at how flavorful and tender it was! They also looked like they had an impressive margarita selection, which I'd like to try next time. The staff were all pleasant and attentive. Plenty of parking outside. The restaurant is a lot bigger on the inside than it appears, so we had no trouble finding a table. There's also a small bar area. The chips were probably the biggest complaint...they are fairly thick which isn't our fave. The red salsa was just okay, we asked for some green salsa which had more kick. The Izzy queso was yummier than it looked. Good flavor and consistency. I had the brisket tacos - they were delicious. I thought the rice was good too. He had the mad mex and he only ate the enchilada and the taco - which he said were good. The tamale came home with us so may remember to update this. Refried beans were just refried beans, nothing special. Friends had carnitas tacos and a combination plate. Both also enjoyed their food. We drank beer so can't comment on the drinks. They're a bit pricy, but absolutely worth it. It is on the corner of a strip mall, by the JoAnn fabric. They also own the Peace Burger next door. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. It is a great place to meet up with friends and hang out a while. The service is good and you don't feel rushed. On to the food! Everything I have had here has been good. Have I mentioned the brisket tacos? They are awesome! The meat is tender, the tortillas are grilled and have a bit of crisp on them, and the portions are huge. I don't think it was too sweet and could tell 2 more may get me in trouble. I was not too big of a fan of the Tacos Al Carbon. The meal wasn't bad, just didn't stand out. They were a bit dry with texture and flavor. I didn't realize until I left that I was supposed to get queso with it. That would maybe help? I used the salsa from the chips to add flavor. Such a great spot and even better staff! Came here after traveling all day and getting stuck in Dallas for the night. The friendliest staff I've ever had and they gave us awesome suggestions. Loved their margaritas--we had a swirl one that was unique and tasty. Two of us split the pollo poblano which is one of my favorite dishes. It has a creamy sauce on top and love the poblano peppers.
