Margaritas are great. I tried the house marg and it was stronggg. So far every food item I've ordered is good. I've tried the steak fajitas before and enjoyed them. This time I had the shrimp quesadillas and they were delicious. I was very impressed bc previous reviews bash their food. The queso was ok but not my fav. Service was excellent tonight. We were seated by an air vent that was pushing our cold air and after we told someone who worked their the air was turned off and we were comfortable. read more

What happened to sizzling fajitas ?? I remember years ago when the fajita craze started part of the experience was the sound of the fajitas sizzling on the way to your table it was like a show. Everyone could hear it and you knew you were getting hot fresh food. If you ordered it every time you heard it coming from the back you would look up to see if it was yours and so did everyone else. I miss that experience, every time I order them now days wherever I go there is no sizzle and here is the same no sizzle no show. I STILL ORDER FAJITAS SO BRING BACK THE SHOW . Food is way overpriced. The chips and queso were good. The Guadalajara plate was definitely NOT worth the price... you get 3 shrimp and a few strips of chicken and steak for 25 dollars!!!! Uncle Julio's is one of my wife's favorite spots for Mexican food. Actually, it might be because of the swirl margarita... Anyway, we have visited this location a couple times and the food is good and consistent with what we get at our "local" UJ in Ft Worth. Everybody seems to have their favorite bites. For me Uncle Julio's means queso with ground beef and their ground beef soft tacos. Those are my faves Their other items are good too, but those two things are why I go to Uncle Julio's. Their taco meat has a great flavor to it and I have yet to find one around here that better for soft tacos. No matter what location you visit, expect them to be busy, If you are going on a Friday or Saturday night I would definitely recommend making reservations. read more

We've had better experiences here, but our July 3rd visit was not the best. We had reservations for 7pm which were honored in a timely fashion. Our poor waiter must have been new because he constantly seemed confused and did not seem to understand the concept of Fajitas for Two (clearly in the menu). He gave us a grand total of 4 tortillas that were supposed to be for 4 people eating fajitas. We had to badger him for more and he forgot drink refills. I get it, he is new, but it really did put a damper on the experience. The joint is loud. I mean LOUD. It felt like we were at a bar where we had to yell at one another to be heard. After a while it got too frustrating to even try to talk. We will certainly be back, but we won't be going there with another couple where we are trying to be social. If you are okay staring silently at your dinner companion as you munch on chips and salsa you will be fine... you won't be able to hear anything but the crunching of your chips. read more

My husband and I really like Uncle Julio's and we go here fairly often. As others have said, the chips and salsa are really good! Their salsa is an unusual fire-roasted tomato salsa with lots of cilantro, so if you are expecting traditional red salsa, you won't get it here. My husband loves their chile rellenos! My favorite is their wonderful fish tacos, which are made with grilled tilapia. Yes, some of their food is overpriced. If you stick to the Tex-Mex, and stay away from the Grill, the prices are more reasonable. I wish Uncle Julio's would serve draft beer, but all they have is bottles. This was one of those spur of the moment dinners because of our crazy experience at the movies. I wanted mexican and B wanted good margs, and we wanted to remain semi-close to the theatre so we wouldn't incur any other issues. I had only eaten at Uncle Julio's maybe twice before and I offered it up as a suggestion and he bit. I wasn't impressed or dissapointed. It seriously was just another meal, normal service, and nothing on my plate just made me say YASSSS!!! I had the Juanita's Platter and I was full when I was finished. The chicken tamale was a little cornmealy to me for some reason and the enchiladas and tacos were pretty decent. Just nothing to write home about. Having recently relocated from the San Diego area of CA, where we have the opportunity to enjoy all types of wonderful cuisine, especially authentic Mexican food, we were eager to try out some places in TX. A colleague of my husband recommended this place and we are still regretful to have eaten here ... and it has been about 6 months. What can I say? First of all, "Tex-Mex" is not authentic Mexican. I don't even know how to really describe it. But realizing that this is the case, this restaurant still fell very short. The food was just really poor quality to say the least. Is this "fine" Mexican dining? We were ready to pack our bags and head home. Beans are terrible, service was forgettable. The fish taco was great. The shredded cabbage and carrots that came with the fish were good. It said it had spicy avocado cream. There was not much at all, and I didn't get much of the taste. The corn tortillas taco shell was wonderful -- fresh and soft. It went really well with the grilled tilapia, which was nicely grilled. One thing we were not quite happy was that we had more than 10 people, and the waitress couldn't put us all together. We ended up sitting at two tables. The restaurant just doesn't put tables together for large parties. So if you have a big party, beware. But overall, our group had a good time! read more

This is a very good place to go when you have a large group and want some fresh made in front of you guacamole! The atmosphere is very lively and the staff is very friendly. I had the Juarez Fajitas which had smoked pork ribs, with mesquite grilled chicken and steak fajitas, it was so much food and very tender meat. The Chocolate Lovers Piñata is so good! Uncle Julio's is a solid 3 star restaurant. While they are fancy Tex Mex, the food is mediocre at best. The margaritas (especially the swirl) are pretty yummy. I ordered the chicken enchiladas covered with green sauce (tomatillo, I suppose) and the chicken was quite dry. The sauce wasn't that great tasting either. We ordered the table side guacamole and it was lacking in salt and flavor, not to mention the tomatoes were not mixed in. I actually had to add salt to it after it was prepared. Despite the mediocre food, our server was excellent. He was extremely attentive to our large party of 10 and was outstanding. If the food matched the service, then maybe Uncle Julio's would get a higher rating from me. read more

Not a fan. Heard great things about this place and decided to give it a try. I got the enchilada combo lunch with one beef and one cheese. The cheese enchilada was obviously microwaved. Could NOT eat half of it because it was rock hard. The beef one was edible but the flavor was off. Possibly too much cumin. The charro beans weren't good either and I was not impressed with the rice. It was ok. The chips and salsa were on point. Loved the thin, crispy chips. One of the only things I enjoyed, sad to say. read more

No visit to Texas isn't complete without a stop at Uncle Julio's (or so I've heard). Fifteen minutes after collecting our bags at DFW, we were sitting in Uncle Julio's about to chow down on some Mexican food. The menu is pretty extensive so we ended up splitting the Plato Gordo. It comes with fajita style beef and chicken, pork ribs, and bacon wrapped shrimp. Tack on some beans, rice, and tortillas with all the fixings and you've got a huge lunch ahead of you. The meats were all really tasty with the chicken being my fave. It was super flavorful and moist - which can be a hard thing to do with white meat. Those tortillas were pretty darn tasty and so were the beans! A little overpriced but tasty. read more

On July 31st, myself, along with five others, visited the restaurant. We (four at the time) arrived at 2:55. We were seated at 3:10. At that time, it was myself and three children. Our waiter ( a slender white/hispanic male w/ a bun) took our drink order and when he came back, I gave him our food order, while we waited for the other two in our party to arrive. As soon as he came back to the table, he took the food order of the other two guests that had just came.  At about 4:05 the food order comes out for the two people who arrived after us. The gentleman who brought the food (not our waiter) wanted to take the food back until ours arrived. I told him that's ok, he could leave it, as ours will be out next. He apologized and said he would see what's taking so long since the restaurant was not crowded. He never came back to the table. Our waiter, with the bun, walked by several times, never checked in on us (he did bring one refill of soda for one of the guests before anyone's food was delivered), never made eye contact, nothing. He acted as if he knew something was awry or did not want to be bothered.   About 4:15 I stopped the female manager and informed her that we had been waiting for over an hour for our food and to just cancel the food order and bring us the chocolate pinata. She stated that she would check to see what the problem was and get back to use. We still waited 10 minutes before she gave us an update. She stated that there was a in issue in the kitchen but we still should have gotten our order.  Honestly, I don't believe that. I don't understand how if there was an issue, my brother and sister-in-law got theirs, the party of 9 that was seated long after us got theirs, ate, paid and had left and we were still waiting on ours, and another group for 5 that was seated after them, got theirs. The only difference was that they had a different waiter. Mind you...I am sitting with three children, none of whom had anything other than chips, salsa and soda and would not eat until a party at 7:30 at Chuck E. Cheese. Not ONE TIME did our waiter apologize or check on food, before or after the manager left. As a matter of fact, only the bus boy (young man w/ blonde hair) apologized when he came to the table to clear it before the pinata came out. In the end, we did get the chocolate pinata, which was given to us as a consolation for not receiving our food and we were not charged for the food that the other two received, but I still left with three hungry children who had only had breakfast. At 5 p.m. when we left, we finally got our apology from our waiter, but I wonder if that was only after my brother tipped him anyway, in spite of his lack of empathy or care that four of us had not eaten. Needless to say, I am very disappointed that such an establishment treated us in this manner, on my son's 8th birthday. I get that you all were short staffed and we were very patient, but the others who had different servers did not have to endure what we did. And although we only had to pay for the alcoholic drink, it still does not negate from the fact that no one attempted to ensure that the food came out regardless so that three children did not go hungry. I am not sure if the waiter is new, nor do I care. I do care that when children are involved, empathy and care be given to ensure that little ones eat, even if the adult orders get misplaced. I believe he needs additional training in order to have better customer service skills because that was unacceptable. Imagine how much more money he would have received had all of our meals been delivered. Oh yeah, as of today I still have not heard from anyone. read more

I've been a fan of Uncle Julio's but not anymore after our visit last evening. It was almost impossible to get service at the bar as we waited for our table. That was just the start to a bad evening. Besides the food being overpriced, my $30 fajitas came out cold. Did our waiter ask why I didn't eat them? No, he just hit my credit card for not only our bill but one of the other couple's bill. And, as one would suspect, he was no where to be found to fix the problem. The only good that came out of our visit was realizing we'll never go back. read more

Had queso asked for large and got a small bowl. Never got more chips or salsa. Ordered nachos took over 40 minutes to get them and they tasted burnt. Waiter said they would be taken care of. But when we got the check was charged for large queso and the burnt late nachos. We had waited so long we just paid and left. So sad he sure missed out on his tip. read more

This place is consistently amazing! It's been our favorite restaurant for years. I recently was out on a very restricted diet. Both times I've been here the staff bent over backwards to get my difficult order perfect! This place is a little higher than some but it's because the quality of food and service are so much better! Worst service ever at the bar! Would not recommend ever! Dirty.. attitude from bartender! Fajitas literally came out in 3 minutes from order being placed...I will pass on that microwaved meat! Asked to be cooked a Lil longer and she proceeds to leave it in the kitchen for 20 min..all along walking around bar chatting it up and not checking on my food..just to be a snotty b...she should have been cleaning the bar top! Sigh. I really wanted to like this place especially after hearing so many great things. I want to highlight the things I did like before I get into the negative stuff. Reservations- easy system. Spacious restaurant. Clean bathrooms. The waiter was very kind. The chips and salsa were delicious. The tea was not too sweet and they didn't include a straw when I specified "no straw." Aside from those things, the rest of the experience was just MEH. The veggie fajitas ($30~ for 2 people) are slightly overpriced. We did not receive tortillas despite asking twice (I didn't want to keep asking and waiting because the fajitas were getting cold). When ordering, I asked to verify that cheese was not included in the dish (vegan diet for the 2 sharing it) and was told "no dairy." When it arrived, cheese and sour cream were on the plate with the pico and guacamole. Not only was this unappetizing and contaminating, its also wasteful. The guacamole was brown. The black beans, which were claimed to contain no animal products or byproducts, were mixed with pinto beans (made with lard) as if someone started to dish up pinto then realized "oh crap, this says black beans" and changed their mind with no regard to dietary preferences and limitations. The cilantro lime rice was weird in texture. Despite paying $30 for lunch for 2, the portions of the rice and beans were pretty skimpy. There were a few other problems with other members of the party but I'll leave those out. Overall, it was disappointing, nothing great, and a bit frustrating. read more

We enjoyed this restaurant. My husband has it as one of his all-time favorite but of course, as usual they don't have a certain item they always used to get so he selected something else that he enjoyed. I had a cheese enchiladas , real good they were the lot is an onion cheese enchilada, it like a handful, onions thrown on top, which seen unique but I just pushed to the side. The only complaint I have was that I think we had a new waiter. He came back to the table and told us and said kitchen had lost our order and he went back and re-ordered the food then it showed up about two minutes later and I wondered if they got double entries. Also, my daughter asked for lemon in her water. She asked three times before she got a whole bowl of cut up lemons at least two of them in giant wedges didn't work very good for just put in your water but she did get it eventually. We just stopped in for an early dinner, our server Stephen was nice but very inattentive. My husband asked for an iced tea which came with a minuscule amount of ice and tasted like it was brewed at lunch. We ordered a taco for our son and we asked for it to come out first and it came out with the fajitas for two we ordered which were not sizzling at all. I asked to add shrimp, I understand prices have gone up but for 3 pathetic shrimp it was $10.59. That is absolutely ridiculous to pay over $3 a shrimp when they might have been 1.5 inches long. Food was AMAZING...however, we arrived at 430pm on 12/26, thinking we'd beat the rush. The hostess said there would be a 30 minute wait, even though there was hardly anyone in restaurant, so we chose the bar. Most of the bar tables were covered with dirty dishes, so we sat at counter. We were there over an hour and none of bar tables were ever bussed. We ordered fajitas for 2, but they messed up and gave us fajitas for 1 (a blessing, as it was plenty). My oh my where to begin. Well first off don't even think about calling with than a 2 hour window for a reservation. Also don't expect your food to come out at anything less than a glacial pace. So I called at 5 PM to get a table for 10 people at 6 PM. I was told that they don't except reservations with less than 2 hour time frame. I said okay well I hope you can seat us when we show up. Cut to 5:45 PM and we were told that we would be seated around 7 PM due to multiple reservations, never mentioned that when I called. There was 3 four top tables that sat empty our entire wait, eventually those were pushed together for a party of 20 at 7 PM. Also I love when you have to ask multiple times for a high chair. Our server, Melanie, was good and not part of any issues. She took our drink order and came back within 5 minutes to take our food order. Now the food for the most part came out right. One order of beef with cheese and onion enchiladas was not right. The steak fajitas came with enough veggies for a fajita and no tortillas. Also a order of beans was mixed up. Melanie quickly corrected with issues with food except the tortillas. She even got into it with the cook about the enchiladas. Side note, if you want beef/cheese and onion enchiladas order cheese and onion enchiladas with beef. Dessert was the Chocolate Lovers Pinata. This was very tasty but dear lord took forever to come out. As this was my first visit I cannot say it was worth it, except the dessert. I could get better and less fatty steak fajitas elsewhere. I'm surprised that with the issues we had that not once did a manager come over and talk to us or even check on us. I did notice that one managed to check on the 20 top that ordered alcohol. Party of 7 went to eat Christmas lunch and had a bad meal and really bad service. 6 of us order the Fajitas with the shrimp and one order just the Chicken fajitas. When meal came it was only for 6 of us because the waiter forgot the order of Chicken Fajitas, but the Beans were Lukewarm at best and the shrimp was barely warm. waiter never came back and filled our drinks, when the 7th order finally came it was just warm so it sit in the back also. bad meal all around but what really got me was the $40.00 tip that was put on the bill. the service was not worth $20.00. Like i said we all ordered about the same meal he never brought us any of what we asked for and we were only at the table for 1 hour so how is a $40.00 tip justified? He had two other tables and they got crap service also. So in one hour this guy made $60.00 to $70.00 in tips and he sucks at his job. Tried talking with the manger and she did not care and more or less said so what can I do. How about train your staff better, we also noticed 5 different tables getting the wrong food from other wait staff. read more

The handful of times we've been here, the food has been pretty good. We decided to try their beef fajitas for two for the first time tonight. It was the worst quality of beef we've EVER had. I literally choked on the under cooked fatty meat. My husband stood up to perform the Heimlich on me but fortunately I was able to pull the slimy piece of beef from my throat. Awesome location!!! As usual the wait time to get a table was crazy long so we just sat at the bar . The service was quick and attentive! The server that Helped us was gracious and super friendly, after him helping us for about 15 minutes, another bartender volunteered the info that he was new , however the service was so great I would have never knew!
