had a big family gathering tonight and ordered on line. my confirmation said the order would be ready to pick up in 2 hours. I called them and it said press 1 for pickup so I did no one answered after 20 rings called again same thing. So I called third time and did not press one and finally after 5 rings someone answered she put me on hold finally after 3 or so minutes someone got on the line and I asked why 2 hours for pick up she said because you ordered tamales. I told her to take them off my order and she said fine you can pick up in 30 minutes. when I ordered on line I chose the option for them to bring the food to my car. I had to put make model and color on order. My Son went to pick up order he parked in the designated pick up spots and followed their instructions and he waited and waited no one came out to deliver the food. we waited some more and finally he went in the store and asked someone where our food was and they pointed to a rack full of bags and they said it is over there just look for it.. they treated him like an Uber driver. he looked thru the bags finally found one with our name on it and rushed home. we took the food out and there was no chips no tortillas no lettuce ,tomatoes,cheese,sour cream only meat and rice. I called and talked to the manager and he blamed my son he said there We're two bags. I asked him did someone tell him there were two bags. No we wrote 1/2 on the bag. I looked at the bag they wrote on a brown bag with an ink pen. I asked was my Son suppose to know to look on the bag when your staff was supposed to deliver to our car. He kept arguing with me until I hung up on him. This is the second time this has happened. Last time we received no tortillas but Uber delivered that time so they blamed it on Uber. Such bad customer service. Next time it I will be going to Anemias. I guarantee they will not be arguing with a customer and they have Great food. read more

Chocolate lovers piñata ($30) is a must!!! It was such a fun dessert experience! We had a group of 6 and still had leftovers! Great for a big group of people! It came with fresh strawberries (I would recommend cutting off the green leafy part on the berries-to make them easier to eat!), churro bites, and chocolate empanada bites. The chocolate empanada bites were my favorite! You also get chocolate dipping sauce for all the goodies inside. We also ordered the shredded chicken quesadillas prior to our dessert. They were surprisingly very delicious! Their salsa has a nice smoky flavor. I am usually not a fan of chain restaurants and try to go to smaller/local establishments. My family and I ate at Uncle Julios's on Saturday. Very nice Server, the portions of the meals (significantly smaller) did not equate to the prices. The restaurant appears to have undergone management or a philosophical change. Maybe new approach post pandemic? Uncle Julio's use to be considered a high end Mexican food restaurant with high end prices to go along with it...and high end service. I don't know what has happened but this last visit will probably be the last. For the cost of food and drinks which is not warrant of the taste, I expect dishes to be cleared from the table during the meal, not having to ask for a refill of water, or a refill of a drink. I was also disgusted by the layer of dust on the wood trim above our table as well as on the picture frames. It was obvious it has been there awhile. We had the Tex-Mex Combo which came with a sour cream chicken enchilada, a beef enchilada covered in "queso", taco, rice and beans. The "queso" was essentially cheese dip from what you get from cheap nachos at your kids t-ball game. It was gross. Instead of having a salt rim, the take an 1/8 of the SIDE of your glass to cover it in the salt. I don't really want to lick the side of my glass for a taste of salt to partner with my drink. The carne asade was VERY good but was essentially served as uncut fajitas...with tortilla's and all the fixings you normally get with them. Why? The beans, were tasty although it was really soup and of a minimal serving...and with no spoon. So either be high end and train your staff of what high end service is and upgrade some of your food to be consistent. Every item on the menu should be high quality. Or, lower your prices. For what we payed, I would MUCH rather go to Mi Dia and your prices run the same. Time to step up. read more

If you care about Gluten Free - read my review. While Uncle Julio's does not have have gluten-free menu, they can make almost anything gluten free. At this location, I highly recommend speaking to Hector, one of the kitchen managers, as he has a very good understanding of how they can modify to meet your needs. The services has been great and they recently got new electronic checkbooks that allow you to review your bill AND pay it all from the table, without the server standing over you. We really enjoy the ceviche and recommend it to anyone who is a fan. The tamales are great as well. This time I had the Guadalajara fajitas combo that comes with 3 stuffed/bacon wrapped shrimp along with chicken and/or steak fajitas. If you are gluten-free, ask for them with homemade corn tortillas and unmarinated meat, as there is soy sauce in the marinade. Fair warning, due to no marinade, the steak is a bit tougher in the GF option. My wife had the mixed fajitas with lobster tail and it was all solid. Of course the margarita menu is the center piece of Uncle Julio's and if you like a little heat, the El Jefe is delicious and is basically 2 drinks for the price of one. Fun bonus, you CAN order a chocolate pinata that is gluten-friendly. Just ask them to put the churros and empanadas in separate bowls and just fill the pinata with berries. Overall, Uncle Julio's is expensive for Tex-Mex food, but for us, the confidence in their gluten-free knowledge makes it worth it. I am surprised by the mixed reviews as we have really only had good experiences. read more

We met some friends at the Grapevine location, a party of seven with a reservation. The table was prepared at a decent location off to the side with little traffic and noise. Our waiter Thomas was really good and personable to everyone at the table. Well trained as he was very young in age. He explained the specials and went over the menu areas. I ordered the Juarez combo - slow smoked pork ribs with mesquite grilled fajitas (beef & chicken). The meats were very tender and great BBQ sauce on the ribs! I really enjoyed the combo plate. The sides of la charra beans and rice were ok. Tortillas were fresh and hot. We really like the salsa at Uncle Julios and that keeps us coming back. This is one our favorite Uncle Julio locations. We celebrated my daughters birthday last night and could not have been more pleased. The Service and Food were way above expectations! Our server, Enrique was awesome and could not have been more accommodating. The Manager, Marvin checked on our table a couple of times which you don't see in many places these days. Our food was probably some of the best Mexican food we've had in some time. And of course, we saved the Chocolate Pinata for the very last which was Superb and a Great ending to a Birthday Celebration. Thank you Uncle Julio's staff for making our celebration one to remember. It was a 30 minute wait, which wasn't a big deal, except the ONE thing we went for (the Piñata) was no longer on the menu. Supposedly "due to COVID" but the place was packed with patrons and staff, so I'm not sure how that conveniently applied. We got chips and salsa pretty immediately, but then waited 20 minutes for the queso we ordered, which I'm pretty sure just needed to be ladled out of a giant vat? When we finally got the queso, we didn't get more chips, so it sat and got cold for 10 minutes while we waited for chips to eat it with. At which point, we decided to go elsewhere and just asked for our check. Once we got our check, we realized our dainty little bowl of cold queso was somehow worth ELEVEN DOLLARS?! We live 9 mins from the restaurant , when we got home our food was all cold, like it had been sitting on the counter for 30+ min. My husband's fajita meat was raw in the center. We called the restaurant to explain the situation, and the manager was telling us that he personally saw the meat and it was cooked, it was a frustrating exchange. Uncle Julio's. I see these places everywhere. That large obnoxious sign with the lit up arrow and the smiling.... guy. Ever since I moved here, I've always wanted to go to one. I figured they must be good - they have a giant sign! We went yesterday after golf. Short version; they're ok. We went here on a Wednesday about 8:30 and the place was packed - there were some spots at the bar and a few empty tables, but they were doing a good business. I thought the food would be amazing, but we were underwhelmed. The bartender got us our drinks, chips and salsa, took our orders, and we never saw him again. That was odd, because it became less busy, not more, so for him not to check up on us or get us another beer was annoying. I should say the salsa that came with the chips was addicting - I don't know my mexican food (or tex-mex, whatever) - but this was green/brown stuff and really addicting! So, we're almost done our first beer and we get our food. Chicken enchiladas. They were ok. Little dry. They let you put whatever sauce you wanted on top and I asked the bartender what he'd recommend - he said the Hatch Chili sauce. I don't know what that is but I've heard Texans go crazy over "hatch" whatever. So I said sure. It's a green sauce - kinda spicy - nothing special. The chicken was dry. Nothing else in there - no cheese no nothing. Side of beans had giant slices of tomato in them, which I thought was odd but was surprisingly really good. The rice was ok - you could tell it was from some giant batch out back. - We weren't able to get that second drink. No one came back to check on us and we had to flag some guy down for our check. Having heard a lot of great things about this place decided to try it out. Came here on a Friday night and got seated right away. Greg was our waiter and he was nice enough but wasn't overly attentive and kind of slow. He took our drink orders and ordered some apps. We ordered the queso/guac combo and it was good but it could have been better. The chips were good but they were a little to thin for me if that makes any sense. The sangria I had was delicious and I could have had a few more they were so good but a little pricey. For our entrees I ordered the steak fajita quesadillas which is actually an appetizer. My hubby got the carnitas tacos. The quesadillas were exceptional. They had a slight crunch on the tortilla which I love. They were cheesy and the steak had a nice smokey flavor and was cooked to perfection. The tacos were tasty. The pork was shredded and seasoned well. It came with beans and rice that was also very good. Overall the food was great but the service and the price of alcohol was not the best. The pride of a sangria and a margarita was almost as much as our entrees. I would definitely go back! read more

Pretty good Tex-mex food, but a little pricey. This outing we came only for a special dessert for my daughter's birthday. Somehow they have concocted a chocolate piñata. Yes that's right, a chocolate piñata. It is new on their menu and pretty cool. It only took about 7 minutes after we ordered and out came out sever, the manager, and head cook. (I'm assuming they haven't sold many yet since its new and all wanted to come see it being delivered and broken into.). It was really cool and came on a huge serving trey. My daughter received a big wooden stick and got to whack it until it broke. Inside the piñata was pineapple, raspberries, blackberries, and tons of churro. On the serving dish was huge amounts of made-in-house whip cream and the bowls of caramel. Everything was really good, but my favorite was pineapple with caramel and whip cream. The dish is huge so have at least 5 adults or lots of kids if you hope to finish it. Also, it was $20 so, for us at least, only a special occasion. Server was great. We got sat by a nice big roaring fire. Everything was really good. Have been many times in the past and food is always good. Only negative of uncle julios is the price. Plan to have a high check. You're probably reading all these reviews where some are awesome and some are horrible and you don't know who to believe. Right? Well, here's the thing. I've been eating at Uncle Julio's throughout the metroplex for a number of years, whenever I lived here or was in town. And when I lived in the DC area, the Uncle Julio's owned "Rio Grande Cafe" was the only decent place to get Mexican food in the metroplex. BUT, and here is the big but... they really only have a few things that stand out. Their beef fajitas are fabulous. Their chips are great, the salsa is good if you like the warm smoked tomatoey kind (which I do, but many others do not). The queso is very good. The shrimp dishes and ribs are good. Tortillas are nice and fresh. But, I'd skip pretty much everything else. The rice and beans are very mediocre. I only ordered the enchiladas once and I didn't like them. Basically, I have this hierarchy of what I eat at a mexican place. First, I try the beef fajitas. If those are good I may never order anything else. The beef fajitas are good here so I just don't. At other places if I don't like the fajitas I will try the enchiladas. If I don't like those either, I will either not come back or, if I have to, will order something non-descript like a quesadilla which is pretty hard to screw up. So, you have to take my 4 star rating with a grain of salt. For my own personal tastes, they have the best beef fajitas around, tied with Los Cucos which is just too far for me to go to but is less expensive and has far better rice & beans. They lose a star for having mediocre rice and beans and being a bit pricy. If you don't like to order beef fajitas, or shrimp or ribs, you might want to try someplace else because you are likely to be one of those folks who comes in and says, "I'm paying how much for WHAT?" My other advice is, go for lunch, not on a Friday night, because they do get very busy. They have a nice lunch special that is beef fajita tacos with fruit and this lovely sweet cream sauce. And, at all the locations except the Grapevine one, they tend to bring out the meat medium rare no matter how you order it. My ex only liked well-done and pretty much every time we used to go in we would order well done, they would come back near raw, and we would send them back to be re-cooked. Then the manager would come and offer to comp us something, and we'd say no, we don't want a free dessert, we want our food cooked the way we order it! But they never learned. My ex is long gone but I have noticed that the Grapevine location serves the fajitas medium well most of the time. (Ironically, I don't mind rarer meat myself!) read more

I went here last night with two friends and sat at the bar. The service was ok. I felt bad for the bartender because he not only was making the alcoholic beverages for the entire restaurant but also filling water and soda orders. I was in shock. I feel like the restaurant should be able to provide a soda fountain station for the waiters to use. It definitely affected the bartender's ability to service those actually at the bar. The funny thing is that my two friends and I were the only ones at the bar for the majority of the time. But otherwise I really liked the atmosphere. On to the food - The chips were excellent. They were thin and crispy. I only wish they were salted slightly more, but I do love salt more than most probably. The salsa was good. We ordered the queso and guacamole combo. The guacamole was good and very fresh. The queso was good but I can't seem to find white queso anywhere in this town! For my meal I ordered 2 crunchy chicken tacos and 1 soft chicken taco; it came with beans and rice. I enjoyed the tacos very much. My friend did comment that the chicken was very salty, but I liked that about them. My sangria on the rocks was perfect and my friend really enjoyed his margaritas on the rocks. Overall, I enjoyed the restaurant and the ambiance. I would only suggest that if you want faster service, don't sit at the bar. But I can't speak for the service at a table either. read more

I came here with a large (around 20 people) group. A lot of times when you come with a large group there tend to be more issues with the food, service, or bill. I did experience some of this. The table chips and salsa were quite good. I ordered an appetizer (the spicy guacamole, and it was pretty decent, if a bit pricey). I also tried the queso dip appetizer ordered by someone else, and it was pretty bland. The drinks were tasty (and expensive), but the waiter did a very good job of taking final drink orders before the end of happy hour. For my entree, I had the "Guadalajara", which is 1/2 Fajitas and 1/2 Camarones Brochette (bacon wrapped shrimp). The Chicken Fajitas were pretty good (moist and flavorful), the Beef was tough, the veggies were a bit overcooked. The Camarones Brochette looked amazing, but tasted of chlorine. They were more palatable when you separated the bacon from the shrimp. The bacon was also a bit undercooked. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. He was also, in my mind, borderline unethical. There is a fine line between "upselling" and "padding the bill". This waiter crossed that line. After I ordered my entree, he asked, "would you like sour cream, would you like cheese . . . " etc., apparently every "yes" response added $3 to the final bill. An 18% gratuity was added to the bill (typical for large groups). However, I KID YOU NOT, when I pointed out to the person next to me that they were about to tip 20% on top of the 18% gratuity already on their bill, the waiter actually "shushed" me. In other words, he saw no issue with letting people mistakenly double-tip him I also wound up with an extra beverage and an extra appetizer on my bill, but more than half of the group had already paid and left by that time, so I just covered it. If this is supposed to be decent "Tex-Mex" cuisine, then the bar has been set way too low. read more

Came here on a busy Friday night with a large party (11) and only had to wait about 25 minutes. Amazing since they do not take reservations, I thought it would have been longer. They are so good with keeping the chips and salsa coming. The chips are super thin and the salsa has its own unique flavor. You can also request their super hot salsa as well. And if you have kids, you can request a tortilla dough ball. They love playing with it, its like Play Doh and you don't have to worry if they eat it. For my entrée, I had the carne asada with enchilada. I stuck with the cheese and onion enchilada that is suggested on their menu. That was not that great (too salty), but the carne asada was good! The seasonings were strong enough for me and again, this was a but salty, but I can't really complain too much. The service was great and they do not automatically include tax on large parties like other places do. They even give you fresh chips and salsa to go!
