Avoid Uncle Julio's all together if you want queso made out of fucking powder. I'm so pissed that my favorite Mexican restaurant decided to change their perfectly good queso into something that is literally made out of powder... POWDER!!! All because their head chef at corporate wanted to change things up. I have spent countless birthdays here and now I won't be back. It is telling when the waitresses all say that the queso gets returned because it's made out of powder and people don't like it. Im disappointed and really sad! read more

Came here for my dads birthday after seeing my friend post about a chocolate piñata. She's from Illinois, so I asked her where she was at and it was Uncle Julio's. I was glad we had one near us. I read a few reviews where a few customers were disappointed because they didn't have the chocolate piñata. I called and confirmed they DID serve it so I was happy. Birthday plans are still on. My family of 6 made reservations at 12:15 on a Sunday. We were seated quickly and chips were pretty much set down. Since it was our first time we were a little confused because the salsa hadn't come out yet! But we did see some tables have salsa so we knew they were coming. I liked the chips and salsa, I could taste the freshness. Only my sister wasn't a fan of the salsa so we got some queso blanco. It was good as well. We also got some quesa-birria which I thought was good too. After munching on the appetizers, the waiter took our order. The food came out pretty quick after placing our order! I'd say the entrées were probably a 4/5 only because of the salt level. It was actually pretty salty on a lot of the items. The beef taco had the ground meat (salty), the beef enchilada was also salty. I wasn't a fan of the chicken enchilada because I could taste the corn tortilla texture more. I was also glad I split my entree but my family pretty much each got their own. Finally, time for dessert and what we came here for! The chocolate piñata. I thought it was pretty cool they gave my dad a wooden rod to hit the piñata and out came some churros and fruits (pineapple & strawberry). The chocolate shell would probably be a 3/5 in taste. The chocolate dip was bomb and the whipped cream was airy and sweet. The churros was one of the best dipped in the chocolate and whipped cream. In town and family wanted us to try this spot. We sat outside as the weather was nice, patio seating was great. The food was very good...we got a couple taco Tuesday platters and a few other dishes which were good. Two starts is due to the service as it was lacking, could be because they were training but that doesn't excuse serving food without all the items. Brought out the two taco platter with no Tortilla; then took 5 additional minutes for them to bring them, and by time the food was cold. We asked for the check, 30 minutes later still nothing. Uncle Julio's is one of most popular Mexican Restaurants. I've been to the one the Westside of Fort Worth. So, I was super excited to try this location. This location was just as good! It's was packed on a Sunday but, service was good, ambiance was beautiful and food had the consistent taste that never disappoints. The Chips were fresh and thin. Salsa was spicy and warm. Fajitas were tender and tasty. Tortillas were soft and pliable. There were so good, I didn't want to leave any behind. Lol Beans had a great unique taste that I've never had before. Rice was ok but, I had a second serving. Lol. I don't like to be wasteful of food. We ordered the Chocolate Pinata! It was so much fun! I've always wanted to order this ever since I saw the commercial. It was so beautiful! The Chocolate Pinata was brought out on an oversized tray as big as our table. The portion size was big enough for four people. Our tray was filled with whipped cream all the way around while, White and Dark Chocolate was drizzled perfectly in the corner of our tray. A wooden pin was given to me so, I could lightly hit the side of the over sized Chocolate Bomb while Strawberries and Pineapple exploded from it! It was the perfect touch to end dinner with Go to Uncle Julio's. The food and dessert are the best! You will love this modern location that has rustic decor and good service. read more

Walked in and were sat quickly, actually we refused to be seated. The table and all tables around us were a mess. Floor was horrible. We requested to sit in whole other area, noticed as we walked the floor was a mess everywhere (5 pm, not late). We sat and my seat was tilted and uncomfortable, when we got up the seat was noticeably broken. Service as good, food was good. Wheels are totally off the bus at this location. First time we've ever had a bad experience at an Uncle Julio's. This was around 5:30pm on a Saturday. Restaurant was not full at all or even all that busy. Took 4 girls at the hostess stand an unusually long time to figure out where to sit our party of two - they were practically arguing about where to seat us (this after not bothering to acknowledge us when we walked up). Floor was filthy, covered in food from the front door all the way around the restaurant. Margarita was overflowing, served to us with one napkin that was soaked and glass was COVERED in stickiness because it was spilled everywhere on the way to our table. No one offered to help clean it up or bring us any extra napkins. Food was served with empty ramekins and fruit flies were abundant. I know restaurants are struggling right now and we try to give everyone a lot of grace right now but holy cow this place needs help bad. read more

This place has really fallen off. I went yesterday for dinner and the service was really bad. At least 2 parties complianed about long wait times and I even saw a couple leave after not being greeted or seated after like 10 minutes from walking in. The tortilla machine was not working and the tortillas they were providing were subpar. This would have been a good thing to know before ordering. I think they need new management. read more

Well all I can say is how disappointing. When restaurants are begging for your business you think they would step things up. Well for Uncle Julio's that is not the case. The weather was fantastic so we opted for the patio. All of the tables are covered with pollen, furniture is stacked around tables so you can't even sit down. We did have a great waitress with a wonderful personality but we had to ask three times for a coke. We always order the Pechuga de pollo but the one we got was sub par at best and the garlic butter was not melted. It was pretty disappointing. We ordered swirls which I believe are the only thing keeping them in business. With so many places for this type of food in the area we will probably opt for them instead. read more

We hadn't been to an uncle Julio's in a long time; and was reminded of their pinata dessert by a friends post on social media. So we decided to come here for a birthday meal; which landed on the same day as their taco Tuesday deal! Service was extremely outstanding during our visit; our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about their menu! The taco Tuesday deal is a build your own taco set up that comes out on a large lazy Susan tray. We tried beef and chicken, but if you just want one or the other they will double up on the one you want for you. My husband liked the beef option, which I didn't try, the chicken was ok but surprisingly better as leftovers! For the two people minimum we felt like we got enough meat, and toppings ... but my husband and I like different toppings so if y'all are going after the same things might need to be good about sharing or ask about what the situation is for asking for extra toppings. My kids stuck with kids meals, chicken tenders for one which is what you'd expect. Better than other places throw in the microwave but not what you'd expect at a place that specialty is chicken tenders. My other kiddo got kids fajitas, which doesn't come out on a sizzling pan. For an adult would be sad, but I appreciate not bringing a sizzling plate out for a kid. The chocolate pinata is pricey; but it's partially for the experience and the amount that you get. It was too much for the 4 of us after eating ours meals, but if we had possibly 1-2 more with us it would have been polished off. They do give you a heads up that it does take about 10/15 minutes to come out because it is put together fresh! read more

Went to dinner with a friend 5:30 to 7:30 tonight, and sat in the cocktail/bar area for about 15 minutes. No one greeted us and there was no one else in the bar area by us, except the bartender and a few people at the actual bar. The bartender, shorter lady, blonde/brown hair, up in a bun with glasses, just stared at us and said nothing. No greeting, nothing. Then my friend asked the hostess if we had a server and she said she was going to go find us one. Our waitress, Rebecca, was the most amazing waitress we have had at this location. She was attentive, friendly and personable. Meanwhile, the bartender decided to yell at a food runner/waitress (poor lady was just trying to figure out where the food was going) about seat 11. The bartender proceeded to count out loud (and I mean very loud) the seat numbers and continued to belittle the food runner/waitress in front on the entire restaurant. She even went as far as making a comment saying "do I need to spell it out for you". It was very uncomfortable and I felt bad for that food runner/waitress. After she set the food down and left the bar area, the bartender continued to be extremely unprofessional and unkind, talking very loudly so that everyone could hear her. The two stars are for the bartender and creating an uncomfortable environment. Five HUGE stars for our waitress Rebecca though, and the food was great! read more

I stopped with my wife and daughter to have an early dinner. From the moment we sat down the service was horrible. My wife had to get up after 15 minutes and ask wait staff for a waiter, the meal was horrible and the manager handled it in a combative manner. Upon sitting down, it took much too long for wait staff to appear. They brought a pitcher of water- but no glasses. We had to ask. They brought our meal ( eventually) no silverware. Service continued to be super slow - food came out not cooked completely so had to go back to kitchen, appetizer order was wrong, drinks weren't available when ordered, and then we waited over 10 minutes for the system that went down so they could check us out. We visited on a Friday night so we expected it to be crowded but our visit got off to a rough start when we seated ourselves in the bar top tables and the host rushed by and slammed plates and napkins on the table without making eye contact and zipped off again. I will add that once we were assigned a waitress she was great and personable for the rest of our meal. The food is really good but is expensive. My fiancé and I each had margarita and for our entrees he ordered fajitas and I ordered the shareable nachos. Our total bill came out to over $80 not including tip. Checked back on Uncle Julio's, is it better than I last remembered...let's see! Staff was welcoming and attentive, our waiter checked up on our table twice while we were eating our entrees and refreshed us with another bowl of tortilla chips when he noticed we were out without our request. The drink glasses while I like the aesthetics of it, the cup was sticky and small and we would have to pour water from a glass pitcher when I find personally more convenient to simply have those large pizza place cups. Not the worse attempt of casual trying to be fine dining, but not the best, but I do adore the open kitchen where you can see them making tortillas! Their salsa is one of my favorites and is extremely formidable in the array of watery salsas I've tried. The portions are smaller though especially if you account for tens of Tex-Mex restaurants that give you entirely larger side portions if you order "Steak Fajita For Two" for $50, not small bowls of Mexican rice and pinto beans. The beef was on the chewier side and usually they come out on a sizzling platter but there was very little to the "sizzle" our fajitas gave. The onions and peppers were not as caramelized to show for the lack of "sizzle". The small bowl of white queso we ordered was thick but dippable when we initially got it and came out quick, but by the time our fajitas came out it became a solid, coagulated mess of a cheese sauce that broke any chip we tried to dip into it! For runnier quesos, like at Los Molcajetes, it continues to set but atleast is manageable to look edible, not like Elmers Glue. I still think Uncle Julio's is decent overall, but ultimately a last resort compared to what DFW has to offer, and they display the same prices if not cheaper! 2.5/5 read more

Unfortunately last night was the worst experience we've ever had dining at Uncle Julio's & it's our families go to 99% of the time (both alliance & Fort Worth location, depending where we are at the moment). However last night was absolutely unacceptable. No fault of our waitress, assuming she submitted our orders within a timely manner. We waited 40+ for food in a restaurant that wasn't even at 60% occupancy. After inquiring about our food 2-3x. We were told the kitchen was moving slow. I asked that we get food out to the table as it was ready as we had 3 small children with us and although it would be nice to all eat at the same time that was no longer a priority. The waitress voiced understanding yet everything was still brought out at the same time. Many plates cold, room temp at best. She brought the manager with her to Deliver the food and initially he did not give a sympathetic or apologetic posture. It wasn't until after one from our group got up to speak with him 1:1. He then returned apologizing, stating he understands the difficulty dining out with small children, etc. our meals (those who wanted them) were comped. Others opted out altogether, just for the sake of not feeling our food was properly handled in the back seeing items such as GRILLED SHRIMP came out freezing cold, or sides on hot plates were room temp while the meat was warm or vice versa. Again we frequent Uncle Julio's often and will, I'm sure, eventually think to return however it may not be in the near future. The restaurant was not busy, there was no communication unless we inquired and there wasn't going to be any mention of discount/comp. Had we not of asked. Seating 9 adults and 3 children our tab (food and drinks) would have been quite steep, and I don't feel like that was considered one bit last night until we mentioned it. read more

Not bad, but not great either. We went for an early dinner to beat the dinner rush, and I expected the service to be better considering the restaurant was 80% empty. I would expect long wait times for food at 7-8, not at 4:00. It was also very dark inside for some reason, I guess they're trying to save money on electricity. The food was fine, albeit overpriced. $40 for six fajitas is way too much, especially considering it felt like a lunch or "slim" option since they skimped on the chicken, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. That was the driest, blandest grilled chicken plate I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant, and it was $23. Will never be back. This place can't hold a candle to Taco Bell, let alone a Lupe Tortilla, Mi Cocina or Pappasitos like it tries to compete with. Went out to lunch with my step dad, and he chose Uncle julios. The parking lot was easy to navigate and find parking in, which was great because I am lazy. We went in and were seated pretty much immediately, always a huge plus. Our server was Rodrigo (I hope that's right, my step dad said that's what was on the receipt), and he was awesome. Great attitude and made the experience worth the trip. We ordered our food, fajitas and the salmon and a seasonal margarita, spicy pineapple. The margarita was super good but more acidic than my stomach was willing to let me get away with today. Still definitely recommend if you can take the acidity! Step dad loved his fajitas and I liked the salmon. The sauce over the rice was not good, though. Everything else in the dish was quite tasty! All in all, good stuff. I don't think this place deserves the rating it currently has at all. The workers were friendly and the right level of attentive and the food was good. Not anything mind-blowing, but I think it was worth the price. If you're debating stopping in, give it a shot. Don't put too much thought into that star rating, it's definitely a great place to eat and the service is awesome. read more

Go to the location on Camp Bowie. This particular location has terrible management. Got our fajitas. They didn't have any tortillas. They ended up having to remake the whole order.
