This place was an overall great experience. My waiter was not only attentive but relatable and kept us laughing. Everything was timely, from getting seated to getting served our food. The salsa that comes with the complimentary chips is out of this world. I had such a hard time choosing what to get because everything was amazing. Bottom line: expensive slow and really salty meat. 9pm on a Monday, ordered Nachos and steak enchiladas combo. Nachos come out cold, sent them back then they come back later with our entree. The steak was way too salty and the enchiladas were tastless. They had good chip and salsa and the beans and rice were ok, that's about it, but for a place where nachos are $14 and entrees are $19 I would hope to at least eat more than two bites before I had to quit. As you can see from the picture the meat was just that bad I couldn't eat more than two bites. The second bite was just to make sure that the first one was not a fluke. Do not recommend. Pro: nice seating / good atmosphere Con: we had to share our seating with the remnants of someone's chocolate piñata - specifically 4 strawberries. Pro: our waiter was great Con: he almost killed himself delivering our food on the strawberries Pro: the hostess said "hi" Con: I think the hostess was high or too dumb to figure out the booth next to her was empty for 20 minutes and ready for new patrons. Pro: 20 minute waiting time Con: the place was empty. I hope they step up their game at peak dining hours. It's Reston for me until then. It took our server quite some time to come over to our table and when he finally did he was looking for us to order without seeing the menus.‍. So we asked him for time to look at the menu, Then we needed to flag him down to order drinks and appetizers. We did order our lunch I had tamales ( chicken) our daughter had tamales ( pork) my husband had fish tacos. Our meals were brought out by another person, our server never came back to ask how things were and if we needed anything else. The food was ok. When we finally got our check. My first time at Uncle Julios and the food, drinks, and overall service was great! I tried their steak and chicken fajitas which turned out to be some of the best I've had in awhile, they definitely stand out from other Mexican food chains. The meat was cooked just right, sides were fresh, and my favorite was having their home-made flour tortillas to top it all off. Their complimentary Chips and Salsa are awesome. This restaurant had excellent food but the service was lack luster. I'd return but with a smaller group of no more than 4. Our group was 7 and it appeared overwhelming to the server in my opinion. If you have time and are not in a hurry this is the place to go. The food and drinks are great and the location is stellar. You could not ask for a more beautiful or pristine area to visit. We came here last minute because nandos ran out of chicken.....big mistake. We should have just gone to McDonald's or something to be honest. We would have at least been $60 richer. The atmosphere is good. It has nice decor inside and ample outdoor seating. The place was packed so we thought it had to be good.... The first time I came here, my husband and I shared the Juanita's platter. Although it came with a good variety (beef enchilada, chicken enchilada, beef taco, pork tamale), I thought the platter was just ok. I'm so happy to have an Uncle Julio's bear my home! I've heard so many great things and was excited to finally get to try it without having to drive! The worst thing for me was the extensive wait to get in. They must've been short staffed because there were many open tables; however people were not being seated. After getting a table things went pretty quickly. I was pleasantly surprised by the quick service and everything was pretty good. Not a drinker guys so I can't speak to the quality of the margaritas! Okay... So my chicken fajita salad was actually delicious. I'm a salad lover and it was great. However, this place doesn't deserve any more than 3 stars based on our service. We sat at the bar and placed an order to go so we ordered guacamole to munch on while we waited. It came fast but it was a very small scoop for $6. Since it came out so quickly I figured the rest of our food would too. I was wrong. We waited an hour for a salad and a quesadilla to go. Never got an apology for the wait, even though several people came, got food, and left before our order came. The lady at the bar was really nice but I would have liked an apology for it taking so long. Also, $50 for a salad, quesadilla, guacamole and two drinks is more than I want to spend for Mexican food but I guess it isn't terrible. Anyway, their salad saved them because if it wasn't so good I would have given them less stars. I will give them a second chance, so we'll see how they do then! read more

The cinco de mayo crawl continued! After receiving a text from my buddy, I ventured to one loudoun and we decided uncle julios would be a good spot to celebrate. Seeing some old coworkers from previous restaurant jobs and some Chicago residents visiting were pleasant surprises. They do great margaritas on the rocks so get those. As for food, we had pork tamales and steak fajita quesadillas; both were delicious. Warm with gooey cheese filling and comforting. Good amount of toppings too (sour cream and guac). A group of three girls recommended we get a swirly which was this frozen slush-like cocktail topped with chamboard. Unfortunately we listened to them. DONT ORDER IT! Too sweet and gave me a horrible brain freeze. If you want drinks, stick with the margaritas. And don't listen to a group of drunk girls when it comes to drink recommendations! read more

Her response was "probably not-we are really busy " as she seated us (table of 2) in between a 2 large parties-one of screeching teenagers. The Reston location is my favorite. The food at the One Loudoun location isn't even close in quality. The chips aren't cooked the same (maybe oil temp is wrong or something). Chicken Fajitas actually looked a bit grey Didn't taste great either. Surprisingly a bit under temp even though they came too soon after our appetizer The scant veggies were cooked so far there wasn't much left of them. I usually am happy to bring home the leftovers fit a meal. Probably not eating it. One Loudoun also doesn't make ribs. They are perfect in Reston Swirls are always excellent. Wow I'm impressed! I've always wanted to try Uncle Julio's in Reston and was ecstatic when they opened one in Ashburn! We came here on a Sunday evening to celebrate my dad's birthday, and while the restaurant seemed busy, we only waited 15ish minutes to be seated. Our super friendly waiter assured us everything in their restaurant is homemade and made from scratch (except for the beer and ice cream haha). We started with their chips, which were light, crispy, fresh, and addicting. I got their infamous Swirl to drink. While it was tasty yet strong, I actually preferred the frozen sangria portion over the margarita part, so I may stick with the sangria next time. As for the entrees, well, what can I say? Everything was delicious. The chicken and steak fajitas were perfectly seasoned and fully cooked, despite what other reviewers stated about the chicken being undercooked, and came with great homemade hot tortillas, tasty rice, and beans that were almost like stew. My mom got the carne asada, which looked good but didn't really come with anything special as sides (besides the usual beans and rice). we are eating at this restaurant for years first in Reston Va snd now in Ashburn Va, we love carne asada even when it is a bit expensive we love to do it a few times during the year but what a disappointed we were this Past Monday Feb 17. they really try to fool us bc the steak was cut in the middle so it looks like bigger but in reality was just thin and the flavor was not the one we eat 2 month ago,i know they want to cut cost but what a horrible mistake you did. not sure we are coming back because the quality and quantity its just not the same. I honestly prefer to pay more and get what I always got in the past because thats the reason i travel 90 min every time we decide to go to this restaurant . the service was good and the place its great I really hope You stop trying to play with us customer because that the way you will start noticing that we are not going anymore to your Restaurant. Steak fajitas!! Freshly made tortillas, spicy salsa and mojitas to please. This is my family's go to place for the fajitas. We tend to usually always get those so can't really comment on a lot of the other dishes. I've had friends eating with me try some other chicken dishes and they too enjoyed their meals. I've eaten at a number of locations including this one and the food is consistently always good. I like the decor at most of their restaurants too. Went recently for a Birthday party. Had to wait 20 minutes even with tables empty. They said they were short staffed. Can't go far or they give away your table. Finally sat down outside and they gave us chips. Then they sat every empty table, but still only 1 server. Almost 25 minutes later and no service. Went with some friends for lunch; one is a vegetarian also gluten free. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a nice experience today. When our server Sandra was asked about GF options, she got her manager who explained they have few options but would ensure cooktop was cleaned, etc to minimize cross-contamination. Cute place and super busy. There was one party after another of 10 people or more. Luckily the place is huge so it can easily accommodate. It doesn't feel that way as it's divided up into different rooms. I liked the back area with the booths the best. There was great ambiance in that room. The outdoor patio area looks good too but it was raining that day so it wasn't a possibility. The food wasn't great. I ordered nachos with chicken. What I received was a very orderly plate with about 10 nachos in a circle. They had cheese on top and a slice of chicken. The guacamole and sour cream were in the middle on top of shredded lettuce. My friends had chicken tortilla soup and enchiladas. Both said they wouldn't order the dishes again. The waiter's service dropped off as soon as he realized we would not be ordering drinks. He saw no reason to be accommodating after that. I will go there again to see if they make something that is great to eat and maybe if I order drinks it will be a good experience. The host and what I assume is the manager were too busy talking to fully acknowledge us. They were yelling over customers at other customers. We were seated and sat for over 15 minutes, without the slightest acknowledgment from the wait staff that we were there. We finally left and are now enjoying a meal at Los Toltecos. Ate there with my wife Dec 28th '22 and have been dealing with the overcharges ever since. We know assumption is the mother of all ... and that was my fault. Ordered the Steak fajita, not the skirt steak but filet. They didn't have it so changed to chicken. Not a problem. Next, my wife gets a plate of something she didn't order. I hunted down the server, we got that corrected, again no problem, it happens. finished and put it all on cc. My wife (the numbers one) believes that the bill was too high and I give her my phone to check the receipt. Yup they kept the Steak fajita on the bill. We got it corrected and they gave us a new receipt. All good. Next day check the bank and Nope, they did not correct it so I gave it a week and a half. Nothing. Went back to the restaurant twice more. Gave them the corrected receipt with my contact info, (took a pic of it first) and still nothing. Went back again and spoke to a manager named Jose someone or other who didn't look like he believed me. I just got an email from him with the original correction. They had taken the total bill off my bank then put it bank on again, exactly the same way not the corrected way. It's actually costing me more money as far as my time is concerned than would be to get that $32 bucks back. Wife and I will not be going back there again. Considering it a loss, and there are a lot of better restaurants around here. read more

My family and I had a decent time at Uncle Julio's the other day! We were given a very enthusiastic and warm greeting from the host, Leith (we asked for his name because he was so amazing) and we were sat right away. Our server, Julia, came out very quickly with chips and Salsa and was back right away with our drink orders (I highly recommend the El Jefe margarita if you like spice, it was so good!). My sons nachos came out very quickly and my wife and I received our chicken fajita for 2 very quickly. UJ is a chain Mexican restaurant that....I really like. Why don't we have one on the East coast in the New York tri-state area!??? IMO, the best meal on the fajita menu is their la Guadalajara: bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp stuffed with Monterey Jack and jalapeño with either chicken and/or beef combo. When it comes to flavor, you can't lose. The shrimp and chicken are tender and the steak good. It comes with rice and beans and the fajita fixins' (sour cream, pico de gallo, and cheese). Fresh Ingredients: The tortillas are freshly pressed on a heated conveyer oven right before your eyes. Quite entertaining for the kiddies and adults. One would not go wrong ordering table side guac especially when you can specialize your own heat intensity with more jalapenos. Another must is their queso blanco. The creamy cheese dip with peppers has a little kick of awesomeness which will leave you scraping the bowl before placing another order. Drinks: I was excited when I saw the pineapple jalapeno margarita but wasn't impressed when I ordered it as it lacked the spiceyness and was fairely weak. The one star is for the guacamole and salsa which were great. I made it clear to my server that I am a vegetarian and asked for bean enchiladas with ranchero sauce , rice and beans on the side. We also ordered 3 fajitas . The fajitas came out about 4 mins before the toppings and the tortillas . The enchiladas has black beans inside which I now know were cooked with pork and the rice was cooked with chicken stock . They were topped with orange cheese sauce which tasted like velveta . The 3 orders of fajita came with one order of tortilla, we asked 3 times for more and by the time they arrived the food was cold . I didn't not touch my enchiladas and was told it would be taken off the bill . It was not and I had to call today and after 10 mins on the phone and 2 managers , only the enchiladas were taken off . The server gave me beans with pork and rice with chicken when I made it clear o was a vegetarian. Took the time to listen and walk through everything, truly made us feel valued as customers and we will be back very soon. We had the Watermelon Margarita's -- which are delightful. The -321 Margarita is a great spectacle and delicious. With it comes sort of flavored puffs which are also cooled with liquid nitrogen, and they taste like cotton candy and are must have. I must advise that you should look at the menu and select one of the dips before eating what comes complimentary. Not that it's bad but the others were extremely delicious. I believe I got the Cowboy Queso... definitely recommend. It has bacon and steak omg! For my meal, I got Jalisco. I couldn't finish it because I ate so much of the queso and chips lol. Ordered curb side pick up. Food was ready and they brought it to the car quickly. Check your bill! There was a 4% surcharge that was added to the bill - not sure why... and the default tip is 20%. I am generally a big tipper - but 20% to walk to my car is excessive... on top of the 4%. The food was not of the quality that you would expect for the roughly $25 a head we paid. Our steaks were under cooked - purple in the middle and inedible. They gave us one small salsa when we said we had 7 people. The fajitas were flavorless... a d there was no cheese or sour cream with the fixings. Honestly the only positive was the queso dip. When ever we come to VA we make special plans to eat at Uncle Julios ... unfortunately this will be last time we go out of our way to eat here. read more
