    Fried chicken combo
    Jeff H.

Wife and I had dinner there on 3/29/2024. She had the Enchiladas El Jefe, Carne asada, grilled corn, onions. They were tasty but the meat was bland and overcooked. The queso fresco was so so. The side of rice was very good. I had the fried chicken combo. It was a fried chicken burrito and a fried chicken flaunta. To be clear, it's not fried chicken inside, the who item is fried. The chicken in both entrees was tender but lacked flavor. The queso fresco was nice and creamy but lacked any real flavor. The refried beans were bland. The side of rice was the best tasting item on my plate. Over the dish lacked seasoning and flavor. For a Mexican theme restaurant, our dishes lacked seasoning and flavor. The chips and salsa were average, nothing special. Our server was very attentive. When the side, the rice, is the best part of the meal, something is wrong.

Stopped by tonight with my mom and sisters for margaritas. It was beautiful out and we requested to sit outside. We were able to get an outdoor high top. The margaritas were strong and cooled us off. The queso was served hot and delicious. The tacos were pretty tasty too! Our server was super sweet and attentive. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Plaza Azteca.

Extremely disappointing place for what we paid. The staff was friendly but the service was really bad. The food was flavorless, no seasoning, not even salt. I would describe it as microwaved food, but the food that comes out a microwave is hotter than what we ordered. My fajitas didn't even sizzle. The food was not worth the money. Our server took our order & never came back to check on us. I would not recommend.

Been here several times over the past couple years. Recently the food has been been a hit or miss. The most recent dish I had is the Chimichanga Texana. The last one I had was a tad bit too salty for my taste. The salsa was also a tad bit too salty for my taste. The service has also recently been a hit or a miss. They get quite busy on Friday nights and Saturday nights. But the most recent visit was on a Wednesday night. I'm usually pretty patient with the wait staff check-ins after I get my food; my only complaint is I wait a little quite a bit for a drink refill. I'm usually pretty parched by the time they come around to check and give me a refill. Staff are pretty nice. Serving portions are pretty decent. They have a pretty chill vibe: good for families, good for friends, and good for chill date nights. They get dishes out from the kitchen in pretty good time even when they're busy.

I've been here multiple times with my family. It's usually a decent spot. Nothing here has ever made me say "Wow!" The food and drinks are always just decent. The guacamole is probably the best thing here I've had but it can vary since they make it fresh. So our first one wasn't salty enough and then the second one was better. I've had multiple different things from tacos to salads and they're okay. I had a chicken fajita salad on this most recent visit and it was pretty straight forward. Just lettuce, pico, avocado, cucumbers, cheese, chicken and some Italian dressing. Didn't really remind me of a fajita at all. Would have expected maybe some bell peppers and onions. Maybe a different kind of dressing. As far as drinks go, I've had the Mexican mule off the drink menu before and it wasn't too bad. Basically a mule with tequila instead of vodka. The large beer is quite literally a large beer lol. 34 oz to be exact so just know that if you order it. The service here is always all over the place. A typical visit will look something like: see your server 6 times before you're ready to order. Then you don't see them for 15 mins once you are ready. Then you don't see them again until you're halfway through a meal. It can definitely take a while to get things too. Drinks sometimes take as long as entrees to come out. Staff are friendly, just sometimes not quick. The ambiance is a typical Mexican food style restaurant. If you've been in something like an On the Border or something like that then you'll know what you're walking into basically. They're located in the Village at Leesburg so there's ample free parking available. This restaurant is definitely not the best in Leesburg if you're looking for Mexican food. But if you want something while you're already in the Village or because it is close to home, then give it a shot.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! This is located in a place like a town center with various restaurants&stores in the ground floor and residential units in upper floors, so there are plenty of free parking spots. Food was also very generous & festive. Portion is more than enough to fill your belly, and flavor is also amazing. It could be a bit strong for some, but balance was good. I tried lunch Birria Taco and lunch burrito, and both were satisfying considering their prices. It was such a steal! They also give chips&salsa as a complementary that are pretty good Service was also very fast!

So it's a typical Mexican joint. Menu had everything you'd expect.. If you like margaritas, cerveza's and eating tacos this place is for you. Had the dinner Birria tacos they were pretty tasty. I had fun ... good times.

I rate restaurants within their category and concept. I am not comparing a neighborhood Mexican…read morerestaurant to a Michelin star fine dining experience. If a place delivers quality food, represents its cuisine well, and exceeds expectations for its setting, that earns a high rating from me. We recently visited Casa De Avila in Leesburg, and I have to start with the horchata because it was truly the star of the meal. I am of Mexican heritage, my mom is Mexican, and I grew up drinking homemade horchata. This one tasted just like it should. It was creamy, clearly made with milk and condensed milk, with that soft sweetness and a gentle hint of cinnamon. It honestly tasted homemade, and that alone made me smile. Now, it is hard for me personally to give most Mexican restaurants 5 stars, and that has more to do with my background than the restaurant itself. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and grew up eating incredible home cooking from my mom, who is an amazing cook. That naturally shapes my expectations. In the DMV area, it has been tough to find truly authentic Mexican flavors. With the exception of La Jarochita, and Mancha Cocina Mexicana, which is more elevated but very well done, good Mexican food can be hard to come by here. All that said, Casa De Avila serves very good food and is probably the best I have found in this category locally. The sopes were made fresh, which makes a huge difference in both flavor and texture. The tacos were solid overall. The asada was very good, well seasoned and flavorful. The al pastor was good, but it did not quite have that deep, traditional flavor you get from proper trompo style preparation. The esquites were also tasty, and the kids loved that they added hot Cheetos. That is a trend we saw in Los Angeles years ago, so it felt fun and nostalgic to see it here. If I could offer one suggestion, it would be about the salsa. The salsa served tasted more like a bottled style Mexican salsa. I would love to see a true house made salsa roja or salsa verde, the kind where you char the tomatoes, tomatillos, chiles, and onions before blending. That deep roasted flavor is such a big part of authentic Mexican cooking and would elevate the whole experience even more. The service was amazing from start to finish. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and the staff really helped make the experience even better. Overall, Casa De Avila is doing a lot right. The food is flavorful, the horchata is exceptional, and it stands out in an area where good Mexican food is not easy to find. While my personal background makes me a tough critic, this is still a place I would happily return to. A solid 4 stars.

Then while driving around that gas station looking for a spot to park, I smelled some amazing Pollo a La Brassa and saw La Chocita behind the gas station. That smelled drew me in! I said I smelled it and that's why I came in, so she said to wait and went in the back. She came back and said she had chicken, so I assumed the fresh, amazing smelling chicken I came in for that was being cooked was ready. Well, what I got was yesterday's chicken which seemed to be re-heated. It was dry and flavorless... very boring. No spices to be seen or tasted - So very disappointing! The beans that came with it were decent... not a lot of flavor, but great texture and still good. The salad was fresh, their "dressing" was the typical mayo-based sauce and it was ok. The parking lot needs some work, it's not paved. Apparently this place has been in business for over 20 years, they could improve in this area. You start with complimentary chips and salsa. This wasn't bad. I started off with horchata, very good. I had half a chicken all dark meat with yucca and rice. The chicken was pretty good. Flavorful, juicy, tender. The yucca was the perfect texture, crispy exterior, soft interior. The rice was okay. The sauce both white and green could use some work. I'll say, their sauce doesn't come close to super chickens sauce. We dined in. The place was clean. The server was nice. They checked on us multiple times throughout the meal. They have a extensive menu. I'll definitely come back to try out the other items.
