I had been looking forward to an opportunity to have a family meal from the Arlington location. I have enjoyed the Lemmon Ave location for decades. We were beyond disappointed by the sloppy mess of a carryout. We had an order of veggie and chicken fajitas. What we got home was a wet mess, with zero flavor. My husband had the Guadalajara plate that had shrimp + beef & chicken fajita. The star was the shrimp imo. I had a pork plate but I've forgotten its name. We were a large party so we booked reservations ahead of time. We were seated at scheduled time and ordered within 15 minutes. An hour and 10 minutes later we got our food. Three orders of fajitas were sent back because they were stone cold and one over cooked. The beans and rice were the worst, straight out of a can. This is my GO TO fajitas restaurant from here on out i typically just split the chicken and steak order for one of my table wants to snack and talk amongst drinks. I have brought my friends from out of state as well as caught up with long lost friends at this restaurant and have never had bad service. I always try to sit at the bar as well as come during the happy hour! Margaritas with a swirl in it?! Heck yes!! The queso is so yummy that when I lived out of state I would always come here for it! The chocolate piñata never disappoints either for a sweet treat. I do however wanna make a shout out to Andy at the bar area. I went in not expecting to like it and I just loved it. We got there at 9:15 on a Wednesday so it was pretty empty. They had sports on the TVs and we sat at the bar. I got a Modelo and they brought out chips and a black salsa, it was okay. Next we order some vodka shots with lemon drops, really well made actually. I had reservations on Thursday night (party of 5). Service here is usually exceptional but not tonight. Place was not full with servers standing around. Drinks and chips were promptly served but It took 50 min to get our orders (4 Guadalajara fajita meals and 1 Tex-Mex combo plate). When it finally arrived, none were sizzling hot like previous visits. When I asked waiter why food was taking so long, he said 1 person in our party wanted well done steak fajitas. Why should that delay the rest of the orders? Ten min after we finally got food, a waiter mistakenly brought another fajitas plate to our table that was SIZZLING HOT!!! Charged double during happy hour, drinks were tasty over charged on a non happy hour drink and waited 15 minutes while at bar. At tables ordered food nice waiters. Mine was excellent grill habenero shrimp. 17 of us got our food at the same time. Other 3 got there food when we were finished after multiple request. One order was cheese quesadillas almost inedible. All grilled items were good. Update: went with same group for the appetizer buffet. The waiter, Jared was very friendly and helpful. However, the environment at this particular Uncle Julio's(150 E, Interstate 20 20, Arlington TX) was not a welcoming one. The rest of the staff, except our waiter, who was Black, seemed annoyed and racist. It was my first and last time to ever visit this establishment. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp and chicken jalapeño fajitas. Everything is good, rice beans all the toppings no complaints. I have never dined here before. The food was ok. My friends I was with really enjoyed their food. I wanted to enjoy mine but the sides were spicy. I had no idea they were spicy. I had the cilantro rice. I think jalapenos were chopped in it. I also had the refried beans which were spicy as well. My steak was good. That would be my only complaint, I could not enjoy my meal. I wanted good Tex Mex but didn't feel like driving to north Arlington for Pappasitos so I decided on Uncle Julio's which is right around the corner. Got there and found a table in the bar area. The restaurant was busy but not packed as usual on a Friday. Menus were stacked behind us so I grabbed one and then made my drink decision. Hubby and I patiently waited on our waitress but it was clear that she was busy. No worries, so after 20 min or so the manager finally bought us the standard chips and salsa...so good! Our waitress passed us by several times but not once did she acknowledge us. My hubby finally got up and went to the bar to get drinks. At this time the waitress shows up. She was nice enough but never apologized for the wait. Every thing else went smoothly with dinner. They have some new way of presenting the check. It's done on a small ipad type of device which our server set the tip portion at 20%. First, I need to confirm that my check is correct before paying. Secondly, I only tip 20% or more if the service was good. Needless to say we tipped the standard 15%. The next day I receive an email from UJ Response team saying that we are sorry that we didn't have an exceptional experience! Huh! An email because we tipped the standard 15%. It's not like we tipped less! UJ, the gall of trying to make me me tip 20%! Train your servers to acknowledge people if they are busy. Both were extremely tasty and satisfying. If you're looking for Dallas/Fort Worth Mexican food, this is the place for you. The kitchen stocked with fresh ingredients, the bar loaded with booze and the tables stocked with a very tasty and different take on "warm" salsa; this place was incredible. When you walk in you see not only the fully loaded bar, but the kitchen as well. They cook in the middle for everyone to see which I think is so cool and something you don't see in a Mexican restaurant. The service was incredible, we got guac made at our table with ingredients of our choosing. The cheese dip had just the right amount the spice too. The chips freshly fried, and the salsa was a deep red warm salsa. I've never had a warm salsa so I was skeptical at first but I had no reason to be. It was the best salsa I've ever had. As for the food, it was full of flavor, full of fresh ingredients, and everything tasted incredible. And the best part? The booze of course. The sangria was a deep red wine taste that literally had me tipsy after half a glass. The skinny raspberry marg was hands down the best marg over had. And that's saying a lot. read more

I was thrilled to have an Uncle Julio's open close to home. There's a location not far from my office in Dallas but if I got the craving on a weekend or at night I had to trek to the Ft. Worth location which is always busy and parking is a challenge. As with any new restaurant we've visited, we experienced a few hiccups when the Arlington location first opened, but every time we visit now we receive excellent service. I must say I think the food at the Arlington location is just a little better than the other locations. Uncle Julio's chicken fajitas are far and away the best I have ever had, bar none. Their mesquite grilling imparts an amazing flavor and the chicken is always juicy. Their salsa is delicious - I read somewhere that the veggies are blackened in cast iron and then thrown in a blender. I'm going to try that at home some day. Not a lot of heat but very tasty. The chips are extra thin (just the way I like them!) and usually come to the table warm. I won't eat anyone else's corn chips anymore, Uncle Julio's set the bar too high for anyone else to match. Our other favorite is the chocolate lover's piñata. It is our new birthday tradition. My only complaint is we could use more of the chocolate empanadas, as my family fights over them! The hostesses and servers in Arlington are top notch, and Jeremy in guest relations at the home office will bend over backwards to fix any issues you might run into. I usually avoid chain Mexican restaurants because after all, this is Texas and there are so many authentic places to get good Mexican food - but Uncle Julio's is surprisingly delightful. Julios has always been a gathering place for my family. The diablo shrimp are heaven sent and my favorite hangover cure is carne asada and enchiladas covered with fried egg. Their fajitas are incredible and there is such a huge variety of them. We always get the swirls and a few types of queso. The only downside is this one does not have the whole menu like the others.
