Love their pulled chicken quesadillas!! I get them every time! There lunch portion comes with about 4 and I think the dinner has 8. I love dipping them in their smokey flavored salsa. I usually sub the sour cream for double guacamole. I can never have too much guacamole! Everything is always fresh and delicious. The last time I came, I tried a skinny margarita with guava flavoring. It tasted super fresh and it was really good. I would absolutely get it again! The food was okay but my waitress Angela took my cash, I had given her more than what the total was but I didn't say to keep the change. She kept my cash I guess assuming the extra was for her. I don't care about the money but it's the principle of the fact she automatically assumed that extra cash was hers but as a server myself you're ALWAYS supposed to bring the customers change back unless they say keep the change. I came here last night and ordered some chicken fajita nachos to go and let me tell you, they were a joke. When you think of chicken fajita, you think of strips of chicken grilled on a skillet. This chicken looked like it was baked chicken breast cut in VERY thin slices and placed on your nacho chip with beans and cheese. There are no grill marks, not char, no grill taste on that chicken, which makes for a very lame nacho. They might have some other dishes that are good, because this place was PACKED last night, but these nachos failed miserably. I wished I would have taken a picture of them so you all could see what I was talking about, haha!! The only positive thing I can say so far is that this place is huge!! Just returned from an unexpected exceptional dinner on a Sunday evening. We didn't intend to go here this evening but remembered from last week when we were at the Lemmon location, swirls were $5 on Sunday. The food is always consistent but what made this night exceptional was the service at this Arlington TX location. We normally go to the location on Lemmon in Dallas and I need to say Arlington is 5star compared to a 2/3star. From the friendly hostess who wore cat ears, to the gal who brought us the check.. it was exceptional... but that's not the complete reason this visit was amazing. Our server TREVOR made this an above and beyond dinner which would have been an ordinary night out. His service compared to Pappas' Steakhouse where we ate midweek (and paid 3x the tab)! Trevor gave the service every restaurant sets as the gold star. He was exceptionally attentive and outgoing (even in a mask). It's been a long time since I've had such amazing service and we want management to know what a positive experience we had. Please recognize your team and give them the kudos they deserve. My white brothers KNOW where to find good food. It's my life long view and practice to eat where my white brothers eat. 2 things that you're going to find at a place where white people gather to break tortillas: 1. Great food wrapped in an ambiance more than worthy of conversation - Uncle Julio's is no exception. The food is OUTSTANDING!! The ambiance is nothing less than stellar. The place harvests conversations from your mind without you ever even knowing it. 2. The food will be far from authentic. This is NOT the place to seek for flan, there is none. The hot side of the menu is chipotle based. The carne asada comes with foo foo sprinkled stuff on it(ewwwwee). No refried beans. It goes on and on, but I don't think it's meant to be that. It's meant to be exactly as it is. If you're looking for authentic food, don't come here. If you're looking for good food cloaked in the word Mexican, then by all means, this is the perfect place to listen to Cuban music, eat South American influenced food, served by Arabic waiters, cooked by black people. Our first visit set the tone for me. The server was harried and overwhelmed, but the food was pretty good. If not expensive. We went back for a second visit specifically for the piñata. Our service was worse and the bill was even higher. Not just because of the piñata. We actually had alcoholic beverages charged to our bill and we were not drinking. I didn't notice until I got home (200 miles away) still we gave them a third chance. That was the charm? Certainly it was out best visit of the three. Our server was attentive, our drinks stayed full and the food was amazing. With the exception of the fajita beef. Both people at the table agreed that it wasn't chewable. I want to share the experience we had today. Yesterday we received an email from Uncle Julio's saying the dining room was open. I was very excited about that. Personally, I wouldn't dare dine in at a time when our COVID cases and deaths are still climbing, but I thought that might mean the carry out menu would be expanded. I called at 11am this morning to ask if the full menu was now available. The guy that answered the phone said it mostly was and asked me if there was a certain item he could check on for me. I said there was. Floutas. He put me on hold and came back to say yes, I could order floutas. I was very happy about that. Fast forward to 8:30pm. I called the restaurant back to place an order. Even though I pressed the prompt for to go orders, the woman who answered the phone said she would transfer me. I don't know where she transferred me but I waited 10 minutes before I hung up and called back. The same woman answered and immediately said she could take my order. I tried to place my order for floutas. She said they weren't available. The floutas are just taco meat and flour tortillas so I asked her if she would mind double checking because I called this morning and was told I could order them. She put me on hold and came back to explain that the issue was they are short staffed and the fryer is being used for something else. I'm trying to be very mindful of the stress and unpredictability of the current state of affairs. The problem I'm having is that as more and more business drop the ball, the more we are forced to reconsider how we spend our money. I want to support my favorite local restaurants. I really do. But I'm tired. Tonight, Uncle Julio's was added to the list of restaurants that sent us back to Rosa's. On the bright side, Rosa's is delicious and we got much more food for $50 than we would have for the $100 we would have spent at Uncle Julio's. We love Uncle Julio's and understand the limitations of the times, but I don't know if there will be another day wasted looking forward to Uncle Julio's. When we're stuck in the house all week, picking up our favorite meals is the sad highlight of the week. read more

Uncle Julio's is one my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants to dine at. The food is always fresh and delicious. In addition, the customer service is typically great. However, it wasn't great this day and I don't know why. Because, it wasn't packed at all. I had to wave down whatever waiter and server that passed me to get what I needed. My server took my order, delivered my queso and check only. He didn't bother to check on me no other time. I was somewhat disappointed on this visit. Furthermore, I found out Uncle Julio's don't offer WiFi because, they want guest to focus on the people in their party and not their cell phones. I have been a HUGE fan of Uncle Julio's since my first visit in 1987, so naturally I was so excited that they opened one in Arlington!! I went there today, and it didn't disappoint. I would talk about how clean the restaurant is, but since it's still new, that should be expected. But I will say that this restaurant is huge! Has a very large bar area, many seats in the dining room and a huge patio area! The staff was so friendly. We were visited by two of the managers just to make sure we were OK and/or if we needed anything. So to fully rate this restaurant, I need to break it down. Service; my server "CAITLYN" was phenomenal! She was so welcoming, pleasant and friendly. She anticipated our every need, and made fantastic suggestions on our drinks and appetizers! If you're heading there, be sure to ask to be seated in Caitlyn's section if you're wanting an outstanding "Uncle Julio's experience"! Food: I love, Love, LOVE the food here. I love their chips. I came here for my birthday. I ordered Juanita's platter. I really like the Mexican rice. The rice is soft and flavorful. I also like the crispy an soft beef taco. The ground beef is really delicious and juicy. The chicken taco is kinda sour because of the tomato sauce, but has interesting flavor that I never tasted before. The most surprising thing is chocolate piñata. The churro is so crunchy and buttery. It has the same taste with funnel cake. The fruit is fresh, but I only saw strawberries this time. I saw they added more variety of fruit before. The chocolate is not too sweet, which suits my taste. The server is very nice. They also give out free fresh tortilla chips with salsa while you wait for the food to come out. Overall, you should give it a try for your birthday as their piñata is unique. read more

I was with a large group and we had reservations. However, it took about 10 minutes for them to seat us when we arrived on time. Our table had no silverware. The waitress took our drink orders timely, but it took about 20 min for them to come out and they were packed with ice. Our food took about an hr and a half to be serve (as did the silverware after asking twice for them) and they were lukewarm. I didn't want to return my dish for fear of being there another hour. We received a small guacamole instead of the large that was ordered. And the shrimp on the "jumbo" shrimp salad was smaller than the cherry tomatoes that came with the salad. Went to uncle Julio's after work. I was told that it was still happy hour. I was given the menu, I ordered a margarita which was meh and the steak fajitas. The chips and salsa was nothing to write home about. My drink, I've had better at Taco Cabana The fajitas came out. There were between 6-7 strips. I ask the waiter if that was the lunch or happy hour portion, he said yes. Fine no problem. Get my check and I'm charged the regular price. Pause, when the fajitas came out, even the waiter was stunned he said yes there should be more he would charge me for extra??????? WTH PLAY~ my check comes I'm charged full price, I ask for the manager. He comes over and I let him know this being my FIRST TIME at uncle Julio's I'm shocked at the fajita size. He says to me HONEY we weigh the meat. That made me a little bit uncomfortable, so I said back to him SWEETIE first of all being a manager you never call a customer any pet names let's be clear. 2nd I've been to top of the line to hole in the wall Mexican restaurants and never have I seen such. He just stands there with a smirk on his face and ask what I would like him to do ?! Shucks if I know, I don't run a restaurant!!! He removed the fajitas which was fine. Horrific. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. We are still here, sitting at our table. My wife and mother-in-law ordered fajitas, my father-in-law ordered carnitas tacos and I ordered a seafood salad. An hour later the barely warm fajitas came without tortillas or spoons for the beans. I was told the carnitas tacos were terrible. After she took our order, we didn't see our waitress much, except from a distance. An hour+ later, and I STILL don't have my salad. The "manager" came out and told me that the chef forgot to drop the shrimp for my seafood salad and asked if could they just bring me the salad and then bring the shrimp later. I was so disgusted at this point that I told him just keep it. I also asked to speak to his manager. He came out later and said that his manager was busy, but that they would comp our meal. While it was nice that they comped our meal, it should never have come to that. The manager should have had the courage to come out and talk with us and explain the problems they're having. We will never return, and I strongly suggest you go to ANY other restaurant in town. That's what I have to do since I still haven't eaten. read more

I've been to another Uncle Julio's and this one is pretty consistent with what I would expect. They have two outdoor seating areas with plenty of umbrellas. The restaurant itself is quite big which means they can sit quite a few people. I've always found Uncle Julio's to be a bit pricey but the food is good. We went for lunch on a Saturday and didn't have to wait. For the most part service was ok and we got our food fairly quickly. You can tell they are still working out some of the kinks though. No major issues but there were some long periods of time where we didn't see our waiter. Definitely check the place out. Not bad for chain Mexican food. Just be aware that you might have a wait during peak times. read more
