Big disappointment. I've driving by dozens of times. Each time pledging to try it. Well I finally did. Got a double cheeseburger and the Chicago dog. Burger was meh. On the overdone side of well. I had the Windy City burger with crinkle fries and my brother had the Juicy Juicy burger with onion rings. The Windy City burgers was delicious. I would definitely get it again. The crinkle fries were above average. The Juicy Juicy was exceptionally good. It was the second time my brother had eaten it. The onion rings were slightly over done, but still tasty. Love this place! You can get a huge burger, a basket of perfectly crispy on the outside fries(usually more than I can eat) , and a bottomless drink, all for like 7-8 bucks. The girl taking orders was very helpful - it was my first time there and the menu had a lot of items to sort through. The place was very busy. I got the food, went to pick up my wife on the way home, and when we got there we had guests that had dropped by. So an hour later we finally got to our food. It was cold but still very good. This is a dirty little place. It could really use a clean up from top to bottom. Filth. The food was ok the dogs were pretty fair sized, and the frozen fries were nice and crisp. I had the philly $8.25 with a pop and fries cheese tasted meh meat was ok. Friend had a hot dog it was nice size and he enjoyed it. Waitstaff stood at he cash register just staring at us as we sat down waited for us to ask for a menu before telling us to just read it off the wall. Uncle Franky's is a hidden gem in the Twin Cities. Well known for their famous hot dogs, specialty burgers and deli sandwiches. The combination of its unique charm, reasonable prices and friendly staff makes this place one of the greatest lesser known eateries in the cities. With different locations among the Twin Cities my favorite one is located in beautiful Northeast Minneapolis. Don't let the petite size of the building or the chipped paint fool you, the interior has a unique charm that most find homely and inviting. I love their Scooby-Doo theme, bright colors lots of cool posters and their Mrs. Pacman arcade game. A funny thing about this place is the TV is on the Cartoon Network channel all the time. This little place got personality!!! It's obvious that the owner, Uncle Franky, really loves food and knows how to run a restaurant. This is a great stop for lunch, because it has a great atmosphere and is very casual. It's tasty, boisterous, loud and full of everything you would find in Chicago. The best things on the menu, aside from the Chicago style dogs, are their variety of handmade delicious malts. Ordering is casual, with all menu items listed on a handwritten chalkboard. Seating is limited inside with only a few tables and bars stools right next to the grill. Add some outdoor seating with umbrellas and you have the perfect setting for a tasty meal. Usually, only two people operate this place. A young lady, who takes your order, gets your drink, and the cook manning the grill who does everything else. It is amazing to watch the cook. He has a million things going on and never misses anything, yelling out the orders as they're ready for folks to come and pick up. I believe that the real charm of Uncle Franky's is sitting at the counter and watching the cook does his magic. Management seems to have a knack for hiring effusive, outgoing staff that shares their obvious enthusiasm for the products. They'll remember you if you're a regular customer. For years the Northeast neighborhood has been known for its affordable yet high quality food spots, and Uncle Franky's takes no exception. Like most Chicago-Style eateries in the area, Uncle Franky's proudly uses Vienna Beef ingredients in its famous hot dogs. This restaurant came highly recommended from a friend, and from the moment I stepped through the door I really wanted to like the place. The restaurant is small, and everything from the Scooby decorum to the open kitchen made me think I'd found a new favorite. Besides the great setup and atmosphere, the food is super affordable, so they have that going for them as well. Now, for the problems: There was a VERY long wait. I understand we went on a Saturday, and a wait is to be expected, and I worked in a restaurant for several years so I'm not unrealistic in my expectation. There were five tables ahead of us waiting on food, but we waited 40 minutes for two Chicago dogs. The real kicker for me was that three parties got their food before us - including two couples who stood at the counter complaining that the food was taking so long. I understand, it sucks when a customer is complaining, but that shouldn't be any reason to push a patient customer's ticket further down the line. Given that our order wasn't complicated, I don't think there was an excuse for that. Top it all off? Hot dogs weren't hot. I really wanted to love this place, and I do plan on a return trip (everybody has a bad day now and then, right?) but for now all I can give Franky's is a 3/5. read more

i've lived within a 10-block radius of this place for years, between 3 different homes. it's fucking awesome. it is your standard greasy burger joint and the service rules. as many have mentioned, the owner (uncle franky? jk) is super nice and always gives me a soda "on the house" and is just the friendliest dude ever. i'm fond of the salmon burger, but i am dying to try their new "juicy juicy" burger... yes, it's "juicy lucy" style with pepperjack cheese and onions inside. mmmmmmmmm. to be perfectly honest, the food isn't all that phenomenal, and i'm pretty sure 99% of everything is frozen, but there are some definite hits on the menu and you can't go wrong with one of their shakes and a hot dog of any variety (i prefer the chili cheese myself). there is scooby doo memorabilia all over the place but the most epic thing in the place is the framed, hand-drawn chicago skyline by the one and only wesley willis hanging on the wall. i love uncle franky's and so cherish it as a NE gem! read more

I got the feeling that this was more of a hipster hang out. They have 80s memrobilia everywhere and hipsters coming in and out constantly. Having lived in Chicago for 7 years, I'd come to know Chicago Hot Dogs as a special experience. Moving back to Minnesota, occasionally I'd get a craving for my past. To no avail. Then, I heard about Uncle Franky's. Prayers answered! This is the real deal. The atmosphere is truly one of a kind. Like stepping back in time. Unpleasant experience from beginning to end. It started with my significant other spitting goodness knows what into his napkin. The entire order did not come together. When the onion rings came they shorted us a whole order of them. I dove into the rings they did give us and my mouth was swimming in grease. My significant other ate one and there was no onion, all batter. I made mention of the onion rings to the cashier and she did not refund the cost of the two side of onions rings. Her apology was not believable given all that occurred. Between the horrible and overpriced food and the terrible customer service, I will never eat at Uncle Franky's again. read more
