These donuts are SO good! My coworkers order here for fundraisers and were talking about how good it is. They are 2 miles or so from where I live so I finally gave it a shot. I've tried a few of the specialty donut places in the area and Doods batter is the best. They are so good that I don't even get anything crazy just plain and dip it in my coffee. The donuts were good. I had two of them. I think for me it comes down to preference when it comes to donuts. If you like your donuts heavy and cakey then this place has by far the best donuts. However, if your interpretation of donuts is a more "airy Krispy Kreme" type donut then this is not the donut shop for you. Overall, it's just semantics but I felt so full after two donuts, and even though they were good and I ate them on the walk to the car, I can't imagine eating these regularly because of how filling and heavy they are. read more

So after NJ.com awarded Uncle Dood's "Best Donut in Jersey" I had to check them out. However, being from North Jersey I'm not always in the area. But the time was right and I made sure I got there before closing! And I must say, definitely worth every bite! Uncle Doods does not disappoint! Before I even pulled away I had to try one of these warm delectable creations. They're smaller then regular chain store donuts but I can't even begin to express how amazing that first bite was. Small in size does not mean small in flavor! I'm pretty sure my eyes rolled to the back of my head! I even stopped the guy inside who helped me just to tell him how amazing it was. We had an assortment to share with family, and they were all good. The Vermont Swine was the standout, though. Ridiculous! Tried a few regulars and a few seasonal ones as well - blueberry icing with basil sugar? Unusually good! This is not a place where you go and linger, especially on a weekend morning - it's small, so know what you want by the time you get to the counter. Also, it's cash only, so be prepared. Small place right near the library where amazing things are happening. I woke up early the other day and decided to pick up a few donuts, as my g/f was telling me people were raving about this place. Very simple to find and park, especially before 9am, without the library open and meters not yet in effect. Upon walking in I was greeted by the two donut makers and told that the 9 donut menu was for December and it changes monthly. The donuts themselves are plain, but it's the toppings that you choose. It was 1 for $1.50 or a box of 9 for $10. The donuts are so good. They are freshly made right in front of you and the toppings are put on while nice and hot. Since finding out about this little gem just under a month ago, I have been here at least 4-5 times and am now the Dutchess! I simply cannot get enough of their amazing donuts! This is coming from the biggest "BAGEL" person you could ever meet! Uncle Dood's is a small donut shop located in downtown Toms River at the tail end of Robbins St. Usually, I have had Uncle Dood and one or two other people help me out, and they are not only the nicest, kindest and most caring staff, but they absolutely know how to run this business like clockwork! I finally decided to write a 5 star review after my latest visit, today, when I picked up 30 custom ordered donuts for my son, who is special needs. He had never been to the location before, but has had their donuts as much as I have the last few weeks and wanted to have them as his special treat for school on his birthday. I walked my son into the shop and the guys were so nice to him, I was almost in tears. My son is really hard for new people to understand when he speaks, but I guess they could tell how excited he was when he walked in-you would have thought it was Disney...lol.The guys talked to him like they would have anyone else, and even played along as my son made them try and guess what he was going to get for his birthday. This goes way above and beyond stellar customer service. Pair experiences like this with their delectable, creative and simply light & delicious donuts, and you can count on me throwing money on their counter for the rest of my natural life. If you love donuts and you're in the shore area, you have to check out Uncle Dood's. Everything was fresh! You got to customize whatever donut you wanted to off their menu and then waited for your donuts. They also have a really cool incentive for the police in town; exchange a police badge and get free donuts! I love it! The donuts were really good and tasted delicious! I tried 9 different donuts and I can't tell you which I liked best because they were all good!! The donut batter is light and crispy. Frostings are delicious!! Now some might think the pricing is a little high. $10 for 9 donuts might seem a little high, but considering the quality you get, and the fact that you wont get anything this good at the chains, it's more than worth it. I was a bit skeptical of this place when I heard about it. I mean it's just donuts, how much better than Dunkin Donuts could this place be? Well let me tell you, DD doesn't even compare to Uncle Dood's. America may be running on Dunkin, but Toms River inhabitants in the know run to Uncle Dood's instead. The owner is a super friendly guy and explained each one of his unique concoctions when I told him this was my first visit. This place has a small variety of different flavors that change every month and allows patrons to vote on their favorite flavors on Facebook. They also tend to have one unique icing and topping off the menu that changes every week. The donuts are made fresh, per order, right in front of you as you walk in. Because this process is time consuming, on weekends it can get really busy, and your best bet is to call in your order so the box is waiting for you when you come in. The dough batter is delicious and a fresh, hot donut is nice and crispy- it's like eating a funnel cake for breakfast, but more socially acceptable and less messy. One promise is that you will never see trays of stale, pre-made donuts sitting out for hours. They don't even have the counter top space to accommodate such a disservice! So do yourself a favor a pick up a box ASAP! read more

This is way better than your average made to order donut spot. Made to order donuts usually have a consistency and taste similar to store bought donuts, but uncle doods batter is a straight win. The batter is light, not too dense and does not have the oily fried taste/texture. The toppings are properly placed on the donuts after cooling enough so the icing stays solid on top while not dripping off while the toppings are not oversized to overpower the flavor of the donut. I had to go to Tom's River for a business matter, when I was leaving the parking lot I saw this place. It had the look of a high quality small business. I went in and met the owner, he's a good personable guy. His business makes a nice variety of donuts and apparently the choices change every month. I got a few donuts and they were honestly phenomenal. The donuts are so fresh that the newly fried dough tastes like plain funnel cake, delicious. Whatever toppings you get are hand dipped right there before your eyes and the owner will mix and match certain toppings. I had a mixture of toppings that the owner termed a French Toast Donut, it was arguably the best donut I've ever tasted. Overall this place is phenomenal. It's around 1000% better than any major chain donuts shop, give it a try, you won't be disappointed. read more
