Weird setup...there's a walkway up to a door, but it's locked and not where customers go. No sign to tell us that, though. Signs for the donuts didn't reflect what they actually had available, which made it hard to figure out what to get. The girl waiting on us rattled through them, but then I couldn't remember everything she said. Seems like they're easily movable / removable, so staff should be able to make it clear what's still available. We sat outside at a table to eat...no trash can to throw away our stuff afterwards. WOW. This place is incredible. While the donuts are delicious, the apple fritters and cinnamon rolls are beyond belief. They are big enough to feed four people. I reached out to Ob-Co's via their website to have donuts made for my mother for her 80th Birthday (8 -0) with pink icing and white sprinkles. Such a unique and well priced fun item to order. I added 6 dozens donuts today on top of my special order; jelly, boston cream, chocolate glaze. They have a variety of flavors. To get a good selection on weekends, make sure to go super early. I definitely think you should make this a stop on your way to/from seaside heights if you can! We stopped on our way out around 830 am and there was already a line. It moves quite quickly as they have multiple people working the windows. It's not a sit down place. You order at the window and take it to go. They have a large variety of donuts/flavors and it was a little overwhelming. I wish I had a little more time to look/decide, but I'm still satisfied with the flavors I got. The donuts were absolutely delicious! Very fresh and fluffy. We ordered the 1/2 dozen and a large coffee for $12. I'd say that's a pretty reasonable price. It's cash or check only. The best donuts ever. It is a staple of the area. If you want to beat the crowd, you need to go early and even then there is usually a line because of how anticipated these donuts are. Old school, no-nonsense donut hut on Fischer. Donuts are ALWAYS FRESH with fair prices. Lots of variety of donuts, crumb cakes and coffee. This is an off the street hut with an awning. It is not uncommon to see a line of 8-10ppl waiting, sometimes in the rain. Although the line usually goes quick. They have 2 working registers to help more people. Pricing is beyond fair, $10 for a dozen was the last I remember. The best part is, they open early and when they run out of donuts, they close. And CASH ONLY, although they do have an atm. Call-ahead service is available, although the one time I tried it, no one answered the phone. All in all it's a cool experience with a quality product. This place closes until all the donuts are gone. They have mostly traditional ones with a few special donuts too. Orders are placed at the window and the staff worked quickly. Below are the donuts I tried. The donuts were on the smaller side, but gave off a tremendous aroma. Pistachio Frosted - This did not give too much of a pistachio flavor, rather plain. Glazed - This was a traditional and solid tasting donut. Powdered Jelly - There was not enough filling in this. It was alright. Chocolate Frosted - This was probably my favorite one as it was very chocolatey, but not too much. Cinnamon Crunch - This was not good, very dry without much flavor. I don't live there anymore but went to ObCo;s for years on end. Would go early in the morning when the donuts were still warm. You can't beat this place for the quality they put out. Always friendly employees who recognize their regulars. We have nothing like this here in Florida, and I really miss this place. Can't say these are the best donuts I've had, but they are decent. You order at a window. 1/2 dozen donut is $7.50. A single donut costs $1.45. The original glazed is very traditional and tastes like a good glazed donut. The apple fritter is the size of my face and costed $3.50. It was moist inside and is a solid apple fritter. A friend of mine recommended this place because it has the best fresh donuts. They open up at 5 AM and have a long line for the entire day. I woke up at 6 AM so that I could be there in time to get the fresh batch of donuts. I'm pleased to report that these are amazing donuts!! Even when I was just ordering them I was so excited by the scent and how they looked I wanted to get more than a dozen. The donuts themselves are very large and so soft. And they consider almost everything other than the crumb cakes a doughnut so when you get a dozen it's included in the price. The workers are very kind and very helpful I always ask for their favorites so that I can try them. I am a blueberry doughnut fiend and was very excited to try their freshly made blueberry doughnut. It was so soft and it was not dry at all. It's really hard to find a fruit flavored doughnut with fresh fruits in it that is not dry. They're glazed donuts basically melt in your mouth. And the same goes for the French crueler. I highly recommend this place, make sure you read the menu before going or you will be overwhelmed! Stayed down the shore recently with my boyfriend's family and his father recommended we try these. He picked up a few flavors for us to try. They were amazing! All fresh! I grabbed the strawberry frosted and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch donut. I'm not usually a fan of sprinkles, but I had no issues eating it on the donut. Did not taste plasticy like in Dunkin' Donuts. Had the Cinnamon Toast Crunch donut the following day. Heated it in the microwave and it's tasted just as amazing the next day. Huge fan! Will definitely be returning back for more. I love donuts, so much so that I left my house at 5:05am Saturday morning to make a 1 hour drive to Tom's River to visit OB-CO's Donuts. Pulling into the parking lot, I immediately smelled the intoxicating aroma of freshly fried donuts. OB-CO is setup for takeout orders only, so you order at the front while the staff packages your selections. For a newbie (like me), it's daunting to see so many fresh offerings on display, but luckily I did my research and planned which donuts to buy beforehand. Non-donuts: Apple Fritter 5.0/5.0: One of my favorite bakery items; I've tried so many versions. Dunkin Donuts makes a decent one, Wawa (believe it or not) offers an excellent (and quite large) rendition at a bargain price ($1.49, if I recall), and my previous benchmark was at a bakery named Rise Biscuits & Donuts in North Carolina......... But they all bow down to the new king of fritters as OB-CO's Donuts Apple Fritter just stampeded those contenders to take the top spot. Be warned, the fritter is HUGE (I measured it at 6" in diameter and just over 2-1/4" thick), and can easily be portioned for four. Upon my first bite I experienced a crisply fried outer layer followed by a warm, moist, buttery, and assertive cinnamon & apple infused interior. Cinnamon Swirl 5.0/5.0: Another OB-CO behemoth! Absolutely delicious as the spiraled ribbons of soft dough were buttery and heavily laced with cinnamon providing so much intense flavor. The best part was the translucent icing crowned on top which added the perfect level of sweetness. German Crumb Cake 3.5/5.0: Very interesting pastry with a slightly crumbly cornbread-like texture, and a buttery taste like a poundcake. However, there was no streusel topping typical of a crumb cake. Donuts: Chocolate Cake 3.5/5.0: This donut was very moist and soft. The chocolate flavor ebbed towards the dark side with just enough contrasting sweetness. Cinnamon Jelly filled 4.0/5.0: This donut had a awesome crispy outside (almost like a shell), and the cinnamon sugar was nicely balanced. However, the jelly was a bit gloppy and artificially sweet, especially when you consider the donut is also dusted in cinnamon sugar. Cream filled 3.0/5.0: I think the cream was bland leaving my palate with an unpleasant feeling. Otherwise the donut itself was just okay. Jelly 3.5/5.0: A solid jelly donut with my lone gripe being the same gloppy and artificially sweet jelly I mentioned above. Raised Sugar 4.5/5.0: Storied as OB-CO's trademark donut, I enjoyed it a lot. Surprisingly, the large amount of finely grained sugar sprinkled on top was not that sweet; allowing me to taste the other components of the donut such as the crisped outer shell and airy buttery dough inside. Powdered 4.5/5.0: A near perfect rendition of a classic, the powdered sugar was not too sweet and had that pleasant (well pleasant to me) dry-mouth feel. OB-CO definitely lived up to being one of NJ's best donut spots! read more

Full disclosure: I've never picked them up myself. You need to go EARLY so I send my hubby. On his last visit, he went at 5:30 a.m. and there were 8 people on line. Lol. OB-CO's has been my family's favorite place for summer donuts since we were kids. We have a shore house in Seaside Heights so the tradition was to stop here for donuts before crossing over the Toms River bridge on our way into town. This place is an institution, generations of people know about this spot since it's been here since the 1950s! The key to this place is get here early (they open at 5am!!), especially on weekends in the summer (The lines can get very long and they only stay open until they sell out) and know what you want. That last part can be tricky because they have over 50 varieties - in addition to crumb cakes and other pastries!! That's really the only place I had to knock a star off my review. They don't have the menu online with photos (just a list by name) of each donut so it's hard to arrive prepared to order. Ordering on the spot can be very overwhelming with all those options hitting you in the face when you get there. It's also hard to see the full spread of offerings since it's a walk up window in an very old building. But all that said this place seriously has the best homemade donuts ever! You really can't go wrong with your choices. Our favorites are the strawberry/vanilla/chocolate cake donuts. They often sell out of this kind so make sure you get there early if you like the cake style donuts vs. the yeast style - they have both! We recently discovered they do call ahead ordering for pick up. We are definitely going to try that out next time we go! read more
