Hmmm... let me say from the outset I really dislike "cash only" establishments. These days I don't carry cash, and barely carry credit cards---everything is done on my phone using Apple Pay, like most of America in 2025. The donuts are pretty good, not great, and they are overpriced. The Taylor Ham, egg and cheese sandwich is just ok. Undercooked ham, soggy roll. It's a family run, seasonal shop and I wish them well but I think they need to clean up their act a bit and enter the modern era. read more

Covid review: Cash only Came by 10 am and barely anything was left. Only plain bagels. They weren't bad at all. 8 bucks and change for 6 bagels. A little steep. Cream cheese is almost 5 bucks for a prepackaged cream cheese I can get in a super market, again overpriced. Hashbrowns are 1 each and were undercooked. Nice staff and everything was bagged and served quickly. In September there weren't many choices open for me to grab breakfast for the family, this place is okay if you have no other choices but I wouldn't come back solely based on the prices and selection. read more

***3 1/2 stars*** At approximately 6AM this past Sunday, I discovered that the beach house I was staying at had very suspicious expired coffee that tasted like rump. Enter Donuts Plus, the only establishment within 20 blocks that was open and brewing some joe. I walked over and discovered a very cute little red building with almost a bodega feel inside. You're not getting a latte here - you're pouring your own coffee, and it probably doesn't have a flavor other than "caffeinated." The coffee was what it was. It woke me up, and went down smooth. There were a few other customers in there (so apparently this is THE spot for early birds), and the friendly fellow behind the counter told me they'd been open since 2AM and had had some interesting patrons in the earlier morning hours. When I got to the counter I saw a display of donuts and ordered half a dozen, which included a jelly, two chocolate frosted and an Oreo. I had the two chocolate frosted over the course of the next two breakfasts. Not bad, but I've honestly had better. Especially when I'm on vacation I try to shop local as much as possible, but Dunkin might actually have the better donut quality. The structure was the most obvious area for improvement - it reminded me unfortunately of NYC street cart donuts, which have gone massively downhill in the last 20 years. The frosting was kind of stale and easily broke off when bitten into, though the donut itself was decent. The others were consumed by chums and were warmly received. I don't think any were left uneaten, and that's kind of the benchmark in my view. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area at the break of dawn but you probably have better options if you can wait an extra hour or two. read more

Stopped in at Donuts Plus on a whim while driving someplace else. The outside of the building and signage are so adorable and inviting, I could not resist. We arrived later in the afternoon so the full array of donuts were not available. On the other hand, the super nice guy behind the counter gave my indecisive 15 year old a free jelly donut to try (he told me it was one of the best jellys he's ever had and this kid is a big donut fan). We bought a few more and threw them in the back seat. I forgot all about them until much later in the evening when I shared them with a friend and wow, soft and airy, not greasy at all and with just the right amount of jelly. But don't let that dissuade you, the donuts were DELICIOUS!! We also had some yummy apple turnovers and got an adorable (and delicious) crab cookie for my niece. Love your donuts but you need to cover the donuts you have on the front counter where customers are being waited on. When saliva flies from peoples mouth the only place it land is on the donuts. I've even seen the male adult place customers orders directly on the donuts that are right there exposed to everyone. Donuts are ok, but man it's a poorly run place. The kids working there don't really pay attention. It's so unbelievably ridiculously hot inside that purchasing food in that condition is actually quite disgusting. Like get an AC unit or a fan for crying out loud. Forget trying to get donuts if your local. Way over priced as well. This place is constantly flooded with Benny's that think they're entitled to everything. I have been coming here since I was 6 years old (when they had store #2 at the end of Brown Ave) and actually worked here as my first job. I don't know what they do, but the donuts are so good that they bring out the inner fat kid in me every summer. My friends and I went to this location this morning and ordered two breakfast sandwiches and an egg white platter. We were very surprised when they offered breakfast sandwiches since it was a donut place so we wanted to give it a try. On the window they had advertised for breakfast sandwiches so we went in and started our order. When starting our order we had asked the young lady who work there if they had had bacon or sausage to put on the breakfast sandwiches. She replied with unpolite responses making it seem like we should have known the answers to our questions. After ordering our food we ended up waiting around 30 minutes while we saw all the people after us received their orders. When we got home and opened up the platter I was very surprised to see that it had only been one egg with one piece of Taylor ham without melted cheese and a sprinkle of onions and peppers. The Tupperware it had came in made it seem like it was going to be a bigger portion. The portioning on the egg sandwiches had also been slim and looked unappetizing. I wanted to give this establishment a try since I have lived down here for four years now and haven't tried it but I was very disappointed with my experience. read more

As far as the donuts itself, that is 5 star worthy. The donut is excellent A++ and fresh. The taylor ham, egg, and hashbrown sandwhich is excellent and filling, perfect for a hangover (the hashbrown could use a tad more crisping though. Staff was nice too me, however i dealt with older folks vs the younger staff others are talking about. What drops it down a star? like others said, no prices, cash only, hours are odd, but this area is a vacation area. Sometimes donuts are out, but that is expected, so get there earlier. A part of me is hesitant to write this review because we already have to wake up super early to make sure we get the twists before they run out, but this is by far my favorite donut place in the entire world. It is the perfect small town, family run business. It has been around for my entire life(my dad used to wheel me and my siblings here on a wagon and we are all now in our mid 20s).. I consider it a must every time I'm in lavallette, and usually both days of the weekend. The twists are addicting and the bagels are amazing too. I hope it never changes! read more
