    Large Iced Latte
    Sam R.

Very cute exterior, small inside though so it definitely felt cramped (but we did go on a Sunday morning so that makes sense for it to be busy). The employee who helped us at the register was VERY kind and warm. Like the type of nice you remember, which I love. Our coffees were ready in about 5-8 minutes. I will say there wasn't enough espresso in the large latte I got but I added more when we got home. The sugar free syrup was really yummy and it was still really good before I added more espresso! 6 bucks for a HUGE cup lowkey is a steal. We paid about 21 bucks for two large iced lattes with syrup and a small iced matcha. Overall this coffee did what it needed to do! Only way I'd improve it is more espresso in the lattes.

Shop is absolutely adorable and cozy inside, and have never walked in without being greeted with a smile. Really great coffee even my dog loves the way it smells. BUT the real stars of the show that deserve an honorable mention are the crumb cake and the bran muffins. Best bran muffins this side of the Mississippi. 10/10 recommend

I came here with my friends on vacation and enjoyed it pretty well. The Lava Java drink was very good as well, espresso and hot chocolate are a great combo. This was my first pork bun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sourdough is great. The people here were quite nice, especially the lady who brought our food out onto the patio and made sure we were taken care of. All in all a beautiful little coffee shop on the beach.

Every legitimate tourist destination has a coffee place like this - an establishment with a slightly quirky personality (is it really quirky though if every coffeehouse has one?) and tons of bougie syrup flavors to squirt into caffeinated beverages. I stopped by here on a recent Monday morning with a noble chum on our way back from a sunrise toilet paper run (vacations aren't just rainbows and unicorns). Lava Java had attracted our attention the day before on a morning stroll because it had had a line out the door, and a lot of flashy exterior signage. Clearly one of the more popular establishments in that area. In recent months I've become obsessed with rose-flavored lattes, which I've strangely found a difficult time locating in NYC - you'd think it would be the bedrock of civilization for something as basic as coffee - but can usually find pretty easily in suburbia. They are delicious and I strongly recommend them in all situations. This particular one was very good; the flavor was strong without being overwhelming and the extra shot I ordered provided a nice little nip to start the day. It looked like they had some standard food options as well, but I bypassed them knowing I'd likely be having a formal sit-down meal shortly. Calorie consumption must be planned to an extent. There was a short line to order, but I don't think we were in there for more than five or six minutes total. They had a legit crew of baristas behind the counter, I believe three or four people, all of whom seemed to be in pleasant spirits. And while we were waiting, there were various pop culture shrines to occupy our attention, including the attached New Kids on the Block homage and I believe one for the universally beloved Betty White. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you sense a caffeine headache coming on and/or your palate is craving a floral flavor.

Came here today as it's supposed to be 77 degrees in November. I don't know if I am to be happy or sad. Anyway great little place super friendly, quick, and the outside seating is really nice. They also have this book case outside in memorial of a girl who loved to read. Take a look at it and add something to it for others!

LAVALLETTE: Lava Java House is a coffee shop and breakfast/lunch restaurant in the downtown part of this shore town and the cute outdoor patio is dog friendly! You have to go inside to order or call-in your order in advance and then enjoy a delicious avocado toast, javendar drink (iced coffee, lavender syrup, and almond milk), or one of their freshly made platters, sandwiches, and roasted coffee from Booskerdoo! They even have doggie water bowls! We recommend ordering ahead as they get busy! If you just want to get coffee, there is a quick-order station on the side of the building. They are open all year round from 7am-2pm daily.

    Large latte and iced mocha

I stopped by here yesterday with my wife and our twins for our morning coffee. Whenever we are traveling we like to try local coffee houses and since we were in Seaside Heights on this morning we went to Lava Java. This coffee shop is a tiny place located on Route 35. The inside was busy on this day with no real seating, a pastry display case and a small area selling Mud Coffee. Then outside they had plenty of places to sit. For my coffee on this morning I went with a large latte and my wife went with a small mocha. I also decided to get us a pork egg and cheese sandwich to split. After maybe a 10 minute wait or so, we had our coffees and were on our way. My coffee here ended up being ok. I feel like it had more milk than coffee and so while I knew that the coffee was there, I had a difficult time finding it. Thankfully the pork, egg and cheese sandwich was better. While a little pricey at $9 it was large and I enjoyed the ham and melted American cheese on it. My wife did enjoy her coffee though. The bottom line for me is that I might head back here again in the future. While I wasn't a huge fan of my coffee, I did enjoy the breakfast sandwich.

Been on my list for ages, and on a unseasonably warm day in November, we were able to stop by and eat outside. They're pretty busy but our food and drinks came out quickly. The coffee was good, and the food, while not fancy by any means, was pretty standard. Service was friendly too!

The only miss of the night was the house-made chips: while tasty, they were surprisingly hefty and filled us up a bit too much before the main course, which cut into our appetites. For my entree, I had the pecan-encrusted Atlantic salmon. The coating was flavorful without overpowering the fish, and the salmon itself was tender and perfectly cooked. Others in our family ordered poke bowls and loved them. They had super fresh ingredients and generous portions. We skipped dessert at the restaurant since there are so many excellent ice cream options just a short walk away, but we left very satisfied. The staff was friendly, the service was prompt, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Even without a water view, Ohana Grill ended up being our top-rated restaurant of the week-long vacation, and we're already planning to come back on our next trip to Lavallette.

To make a long story short, the food was very good--creative, flavorful, and well worth the praise. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the excessive smoke and heat coming from the open kitchen. I'm not sure who designed the ventilation system, but it clearly isn't working properly. There was a visible haze of smoke throughout the dining room, our eyes were watering, and everyone at our table was uncomfortably warm. I felt especially bad for the kitchen and wait staff, who have to work in those conditions every day. By the time we got home, all of our clothes smelled like smoke and had to be washed. It's a shame because the food was so good, but the ventilation issues really detracted from what should have been a memorable meal. Come on, guys--please fix it!

As did my daughter from North Jersey . We often came for take out on pizza days but always added the mussels. We ate there at least once a year with the grandkids and daughter. Food was always great , never a regret. This past weekend, the five of us left extremely disappointed. While the dishes may have been good they were all ruined with the sauce of each dish. It began with the breadsticks and dipping sauce. Continued with the calamari , chicken parm and at the worst, the mussels. Not only were the mussels not steaming hot as is the custom but the sauce had the look of a canned tomato paste, no spice or zest whatsoever. A far cry from the sauce we actually took home for our pasta dishes. The service was basic perhaps because they were understaffed. This was an weekend so that was curious. None of the familiar faces that we remember. We visit every Mias in the general area. This one we will regretfully avoid. We recognize all to well that seashore restaurants and pizzerias thrive due to the hordes of vacationers no matter the quality of their menus. However, this Mia always maintained a consistent high level year round that has been lost since roughly a year ago when we last visited.

All of this in a place that's fairly new, which makes it even more confusing. The service and the food- Easily some of the worst we've had. We mentioned that our food was inedible, and unfortunately that was not an exaggeration. The chicken fingers were absolutely obliterated. I'm someone who will usually eat a well-done tender, but these literally snapped in half they were so overcooked. The salmon on our salad was so hammered it had turned fully white, as if it had given up. The bartender completely ignored us while chatting with the other bartender (the place was dead). After about five minutes, we finally got her attention. She was visibly annoyed to be bothered. We calmly said the food was inedible and that we just wanted to leave. She dropped the bill with both items still on it. We politely asked if the uneaten food could be removed and said we were happy to pay for the iced tea and soda water. This request seemed to make her very angry. We then politely asked if a manager could help. The manager arrived with the same attitude. After some back and forth, the items were finally comped, but not before the manager called us idiots under her breath across the bar, which we clearly heard while she was speaking to the bartender. Overall- The staff matched the vibes. Hard pass.
