This is one of our go-to places for breakfast takeout and eat-in. Summers are a nightmare and the line can be out the door. We usually go during off-season. I love the staff - they are soooo nice and efficient. My orders are always right on, they have gluten free options & GF bread. Really enjoy their hot drinks - latte with oatmilk and their tea selection is very good. It is very small but quaint with such a great local atmosphere including local art and an overall good vibe. Stopped in for the first time just to grab a breakfast sandwich and this is my new go-to place for a pork roll, egg & cheese! I called in my order and the woman on the phone was extremely upbeat and friendly! I was able to walk right in to the front and pick up my order with no wait time. The pork roll, egg, & cheese was loaded and a very generous portion, with the fluffiest bread! They definitely didn't skimp on any ingredients and it hit the spot. Lava Java is awesome! Stopped in on the super busy July 4th weekend and waited in a pretty long line to order. With that said, the staff moved the orders through with efficiency and a smile. It was tough to pick out what I wanted as their menu is really interesting. I ended up settling on a wedge salad and a hibiscus ice tea/lemonade mix that was fantastic! Two other people in our party ordered a super loaded breakfast sandwich and they LOVED them. I did stare at their sandwiches from across the table and they looked like an excellent and abundant sub roll stuffed with a combination of eggs, cheese, home fries and vegetables. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and one night when I walked by there seemed to be live music. Great vibe, great food, great addition to the area! read more

We waited in line for and egg with cheddar and a pork roll with cheese. The eggs were well fried, but I found the roll to be a bit to large and soft. It was a bit awkward and I threw out most of the roll. The bf loved the pork roll. Coffee was good. Overall, a very cute spot with great service. Expect to wait in line during peak times. Next time I'm going to try the breakfast with egg, toast and hash browns!!! Looking forward to it. read more

I absolutely love this coffee shop! As a Manhattanite I was cheering when I saw that the coffee they use is Mud Coffee! I've been to their cafe in NYC before! At this point, I knew I was in for a treat! I came here for late breakfast and early lunch with my sisters and there was a line out the door! This made me even more excited to try their food! My sister and I ordered a Taylor Ham (yes I'm from North Jerz) Egg & Cheese and my other sister got the BLTA on Rye which she loved! Coffee-wise, I got a Iced Latte with regular milk (such a treat omg), my sister got the Javander (coffee w/ lavender) and my other sister got iced coffee w/ chocolate and salted caramel. What really sold me on this place other than the amazing coffee and food was the general vibe and decor. It captures exactly what a beach coffee shop should feel like but at the same time it gave me the same city coffee shop vibe as well. I love the sign out front, I'll call it the "inclusion sign," I mean I even captioned my Instagram (a cup of joe with a pump of inclusion) It warms my heart that such an amazing establishment is flourishing in lava! I've spend every summer of my childhood/high school life here/ hadn't been back since this year so experiencing Lava Java for the first time was amazing! We love Lava Java. Their pork roll, egg, & cheese sandwich is VERY GOOD (as a Jersey girl, I don't give this accolade out easily), and they get an extra star just for having gluten-free bread! We loved their chai with oat milk (unfortunately, they were out of Matcha on the days we visited). Highly recommend it if you are down the shore looking for a great breakfast/lunch place. It gets pretty busy, so I recommend ordering ahead of time. We will be back! read more

If you're on the island even for a day visit, Lava Java is a must visit place. Coffee is always excellent and they have so many interesting drink specials each day. Food is always great- I bring all my friends who visit here and they all love the breakfast sandwiches. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. If I could leave no star I would! It was my first time here ever & was super excited about it! The older blonde woman that works there is SO EXTREMELY RUDE IT KILLED my morning mojo! This woman yelled at us to move and I've never felt so small in my life. I will never come here again, you couldn't pay me to come here! This woman's attitude was so horrible. I saw her in the back yelling and just being so miserable. I will never ever come here again, it was easily the worst experience I have ever had at a coffee shop/ restaurant in my entire life. Staff is friendly.... except for the short haired blonde lady who I believe is the owner. She is very unprofessional, rude and arrogant. She got very nasty with us, as well as multiple customers behind us in line. She also blantantly pushed into me while I was waiting for my coffee order. Coffee is sub par... not worth the 30 minute wait. Clearly she needs to learn how to talk to people and how to carry herself professionally. Lava Java is easily my favorite breakfast place in Lavallette. Great coffee, delicious home made home fries, eggs always prepared exactly as I order them (over easy). Quick service and friendly staff. Nice area to dine outside. I also like the wraps they serve for lunch. Small menu but everything is fresh and delicious. Very busy on summer weekends. They have a very clutch walk up coffee window on the side of the building which is almost always open (coffee only!) My go-to order is the Javander - iced coffee with lavender syrup and almond milk! Love going to Lava Java when I visit NJ. The staff is so nice and helpful. The chicken and egg salad are delicious and love that they give you different choices for the sides (salsa and chips, fresh fruit or side salad). I am not a coffee drinker but everyone raves about it and it is the busiest area. They have fresh muffins and croissants that I also leave with The staff brings your order to you which is good since I usually have my grandson with me. My new favorite spot in Lavalette. Super kitschy, fun atmosphere, upbeat music and nice staff. Great coffee and awesome breakfast. You can enjoy a table outside in the sunshine or one of the few tables that are inside. It's a little tight in there especially when there is a line but we enjoyed the people watching and it wasn't long before we had our meal. You went online order your food and then sit down with your number and someone will bring it to you when it's ready coffee or called up to the counter to grab. With Sammies you have a choice of either salsa and homemade chips which was really delicious or macaroni salad. We had BLTA which was delish and I might try with a fried egg in it next time and a breakfast sandwich with eggs, ham, cheese and potatoes which was so crazy good don't know what they did to get those flavors out of it, yum and filling! We've been coming to this place for coffee since April of this year. I am a Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts whore typically and when I discovered this place I have yet to go back to either Dunkin' Donuts or drive the long-distance the Starbucks. Their coffees are amazing. The breakfast and lunch sandwiches are extremely generous in their size and are cooked perfectly. While there may tend to be a long line at times, I think that is more of a testament to how good of a place this is than to slow service. We met with the owner yesterday when she came to greet us at our table outside and had a great conversation with her about how she took a small dream of a coffee shop and made it a reality last year here with this business. This isn't going to be some fast paced quick turn around type place that you would see in one of the bigger cities. This is the perfect place to sit down, enjoy a cup of coffee and a breakfast entrée and watch the people walk and bicycle by as you enjoy your lazy summer days. By the way, go in and ask for your drink with monkey milk. I was so enraptured by how many different varieties of milk that they offer, that when I was asked which type I wanted I literally said monkey milk off the top of my head. It has now become a running joke with us in there and we love that the staff recognizes us each time and jokes with us about it. We are moving to Florida on Saturday and trust me we will miss the coffees, the food, and the team. We are going to make sure that all of our renters at our shore houses here are aware of this amazing coffee house. read more

This is one of the nicest places at the shore. The coffee is great, as is the food, but what really makes this place is the vibe. They have a group of cheerful, helpful order takers and servers who are not just a pleasure to see but who are also very efficient. They keep things moving, even when the lines stretch out the door -- which they often do. Sip your coffee and eat under the bright beach umbrellas out front. The owner has a great thing going here and we hope she stays forever. read more

Happy to have a local coffee shop in Lavallette. Lava Java is a great addition to the community. There is a grab and go coffee / tea counter with a few baked goods. The coffee is excellent with a few different varieties of brews and a vast selection of flavor shots. I have tried the pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwich which is a Jersey staple. Be sure to call it "pork roll". I used the North Jersey colloquialism of "Taylor Ham" and they were quick to correct me. The staff t-shirts all have "pork roll" written on them so they definitely stick to the marketing brand image! I would suggest an easier grab and go coffee window maybe off to the side in the future. I visited Lava Java for a quick coffee on 4th of July weekend (around when they opened) and the line was out the door. The wait time was long but they had someone monitoring the door as to not disturb the patrons eating. Bennies, am I right! read more
