I came here with my friends on vacation and enjoyed it pretty well. The Lava Java drink was very good as well, espresso and hot chocolate are a great combo. This was my first pork bun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sourdough is great. The people here were quite nice, especially the lady who brought our food out onto the patio and made sure we were taken care of. All in all a beautiful little coffee shop on the beach.

Shop is absolutely adorable and cozy inside, and have never walked in without being greeted with a smile. Really great coffee even my dog loves the way it smells. BUT the real stars of the show that deserve an honorable mention are the crumb cake and the bran muffins. Best bran muffins this side of the Mississippi. 10/10 recommend

Every legitimate tourist destination has a coffee place like this - an establishment with a slightly quirky personality (is it really quirky though if every coffeehouse has one?) and tons of bougie syrup flavors to squirt into caffeinated beverages. I stopped by here on a recent Monday morning with a noble chum on our way back from a sunrise toilet paper run (vacations aren't just rainbows and unicorns). Lava Java had attracted our attention the day before on a morning stroll because it had had a line out the door, and a lot of flashy exterior signage. Clearly one of the more popular establishments in that area. In recent months I've become obsessed with rose-flavored lattes, which I've strangely found a difficult time locating in NYC - you'd think it would be the bedrock of civilization for something as basic as coffee - but can usually find pretty easily in suburbia. They are delicious and I strongly recommend them in all situations. This particular one was very good; the flavor was strong without being overwhelming and the extra shot I ordered provided a nice little nip to start the day. It looked like they had some standard food options as well, but I bypassed them knowing I'd likely be having a formal sit-down meal shortly. Calorie consumption must be planned to an extent. There was a short line to order, but I don't think we were in there for more than five or six minutes total. They had a legit crew of baristas behind the counter, I believe three or four people, all of whom seemed to be in pleasant spirits. And while we were waiting, there were various pop culture shrines to occupy our attention, including the attached New Kids on the Block homage and I believe one for the universally beloved Betty White. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you sense a caffeine headache coming on and/or your palate is craving a floral flavor.

Came here today as it's supposed to be 77 degrees in November. I don't know if I am to be happy or sad. Anyway great little place super friendly, quick, and the outside seating is really nice. They also have this book case outside in memorial of a girl who loved to read. Take a look at it and add something to it for others!

I stopped by here yesterday with my wife and our twins for our morning coffee. Whenever we are traveling we like to try local coffee houses and since we were in Seaside Heights on this morning we went to Lava Java. This coffee shop is a tiny place located on Route 35. The inside was busy on this day with no real seating, a pastry display case and a small area selling Mud Coffee. Then outside they had plenty of places to sit. For my coffee on this morning I went with a large latte and my wife went with a small mocha. I also decided to get us a pork egg and cheese sandwich to split. After maybe a 10 minute wait or so, we had our coffees and were on our way. My coffee here ended up being ok. I feel like it had more milk than coffee and so while I knew that the coffee was there, I had a difficult time finding it. Thankfully the pork, egg and cheese sandwich was better. While a little pricey at $9 it was large and I enjoyed the ham and melted American cheese on it. My wife did enjoy her coffee though. The bottom line for me is that I might head back here again in the future. While I wasn't a huge fan of my coffee, I did enjoy the breakfast sandwich.

LAVALLETTE: Lava Java House is a coffee shop and breakfast/lunch restaurant in the downtown part of this shore town and the cute outdoor patio is dog friendly! You have to go inside to order or call-in your order in advance and then enjoy a delicious avocado toast, javendar drink (iced coffee, lavender syrup, and almond milk), or one of their freshly made platters, sandwiches, and roasted coffee from Booskerdoo! They even have doggie water bowls! We recommend ordering ahead as they get busy! If you just want to get coffee, there is a quick-order station on the side of the building. They are open all year round from 7am-2pm daily.

Lava java is my go to place for all things coffee! I absolutely love it here, as a local I must warn you that the wait times in the summer are slightly longer since lavallette is a huge tourist destination but all in all they rank as my all time favorite coffee place!! I go a few times a week and the staff is insanely friendly and fun - I love their eco friendly options (they'll let you refill your own mug and offer straw alternatives if you aren't into plastic straws). Also being gluten free I love that I can get a classic pork roll egg and cheese on a gluten free roll - seriously try their sandwiches they're the best around I promise! read more

If u miss the old fashioned days where the biz owners treat u like family then this is the place for u. Delicious food served with love! I just moved down to Lavallette in November and I am sooo happy this place is in walking and biking distance to pick up breakfast and a nice strong coffee that u can create urself with their amazing choice of flavors. If you are from Lavallette and have never been to Lava Java or do not know where Lava Java is, then you are not from Lavallette. Food if freshly made and the quality is always top notch. I haven't had the coffee here but I went here for lunch with my dad a few days ago. -My dad had: the tuna-fish sandwich, which you could get with a side of colelslaw, side salad, macaroni salad or chips with salsa ($7) - I had: Cobb salad ($10) - romaine, bacon, egg, cheese, chicken, avocado ($10) We ate in. My dad really liked his tuna sandwich, which came on rye even though he asked for multigrain bread. The chips and salsa were really good - the chips were warm and crispy, and there was a healthy side portion of salsa. My Cobb salad was a big portion, with tons of romaine, a single boiled egg cut in half by the sides for garnish, a healthy amount of bacon, a few slices of avocado, tasty, well-seasoned bite-sized pieces of chicken breast chopped up and fried on the grill and some multi-coloured Cheddar-ish cheese clearly from a bag sprinkled on top. I got two lunches out of it because I took it home. The reason I am giving this place 3 stars is for two reasons: 1) When you pay at the register, they pretty much force you to leave a tip. There is no waitress service at Lava Java, just people who bring the food out to you after you order at the register. And by force you, I mean if you pay by credit card, there is no way you can get out of it. The screen brings you to a page that asks you how much to you want to tip starting at 15%; there's no place to bypass it, plus the girl on the cash register is looking at you while you put in your selection. The prices are super cheap, but everyone in there should be getting at least min wage. At the very least, forced tipping is really tacky. Put your prices up if you have to, but gratuity is based on service, not because you dont pay your employees enough. 2) The Cheddar cheese in my Cobb salad was from a pre-shredded bag. Firstly - a Cobb salad comes with blue cheese (and tomato for that matter). Secondly, if you must put Cheddar, at least grate it yourself. Bagged cheese is not a 5 star experience. Plus, the hardboiled egg had a sulfur-ring center. But - the place has potential, I understand struggles of small businesses so I am trying to give some constructive criticism, and I wish them well! read more

This is hands down the best coffee I have found in area! It's definitely not a place for the people who want to get in and get out...it's cramped, loud at times, and a little unorganized, but none of this detracts from the overall quality. Be patient, make some friends while you wait, and just realize you're going to feel like you're in the way wherever you stand. The coffee is seriously so good, the service is grade A, and although I mainly have just had egg+cheese sandwiches...all the food/treats look very good too. Seriously, for all you other coffee snobs...definitely skip the boardwalk and check out Lava Java! read more

And despite the constant lines and number of people the employees somehow manage to stay pleasant and helpful. Lava Java is quintessential to our family's Jersey Shore experience. It's nice having a small local coffee shop in town. They have live music Friday nights which is a perfect welcome down the shore. They get slammed for breakfast and there's often a line out the door summer weekends. Don't be fazed and go down the street to Dunkin', it's worth the wait. read more

Lava Java - There is more to being tolerant than sticking a sign in front of your establishment. The snickering and whispers of waitresses and staff filled the work area when someone walked into the restaurant wearing political attire, the candidate doesn't matter but many can surmise to whom it was. At first, I was extremely saddened by this, but then, I realized the hypocrisy. I was mainly motivated to post not to tear down this business as I do enjoy their coffee, but rather to state that while I did love Lava Java, I have never seen such utter ignorance on behalf of the staff. Next time, I would challenge these same staff members to sit down and have a real discussion with the customer instead of making this person feel uncomfortable in a place you claim as "welcoming." Please understand that this whole "love" and "inclusion" vibe Lava Java is going for seems to be becoming a "love only what I love" and "include only what I agree with" close-minded credo, and with this thinking is where we, as people, begin to lose each other. I personally believe that Dunkin' Donuts coffee is much stronger (and better) especially the cold brew, but I recognized the importance of supporting local businesses. However, I can't support Lava Java any longer at least until they end their hypocritical behavior and act maturely. read more

We started with some coffee and the server asked if we'd like them flavored (it's a $.75 up charge which she didn't mention) and I had salted caramel while my wife had vanilla caramel. Very tasty coffee. Wifey ordered a Mango lemonade for us to share (it was also very good. For her meal she ordered the goat cheese and mushroom frittata and I had the Meat lovers omelet with a biscuit and well done potatoes (bacon, sausage, ham and pork roll, cheddar). My wife liked hers - came with arugula on top and a drizzle of olive oil. Mine was also good, but it had a flavor, probably in the sausage, that I just couldn't place. Overall a very nice experience. Very good service, cute location, off-season parking was easy, and very good food.

The only constraint was the menu. Oh, the menu. Dammit. I had to follow the written rules of the restaurant when ordering. It was not the free-for-all I had in mind. But that's ok. That'll do. It'll be fine. I got some delicious french toast sticks, which is a superior medium for french toast, if we are being honest. They were slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the way a gourmand would envision when thinking about french toast. Being that I was in New Jersey (and mandated by state law), I ordered pork roll as a side. It wasn't the pac-man style cut, but the little corner cuts, which I prefer (though sometimes they look like an iron cross and that can be sketchy if the place had a German flag or something). The pork roll was cooked just the way I like it. A little crust, a deep color, and piping hot. We got a plate of fruit, which was...wow, I don't even know where to begin. It was a plate of fruit, sure, but it seemed super in-season and fresh. I mean, sure, it is blueberry season, and strawberry season just ended, but both were so perfect on this plate. Staff were super friendly, even the mirrior universe Elmo outside. I'd recommend this place for anyone, but it is probably really great for families with young kids.

The food was terrible and the service (on the management end) is the worst! Not fresh and not well made. The coffee, especially lattes, were very weak and the bread on the sandwiches were mush. It is also very overpriced for a place down the shore. The wait staff are the best part of the place. We used to go there all the time. Sadly, due to the the management being rude to the customers, and the poor food quality, we will not be returning. It's a shame because the staff that actually do all the work and run the place are amazing. This is a newer place in Lavalette and hopefully they manage to turn things around. I also would like to say that this used to be a 5 star review, but due to inexperience, we will not be returning to this establishment. read more

This used to be a great place to go for breakfast and lunch. Sadly, we had poor experience because of untrained staff. It was no fault of their own, but the management handled the situation poorly. We used to go here multiple times a week, but will not be going back. It is a shame because the food (even though expensive) was half way decent. Prepare to spend spend spend!!!! The line is extremely long all the time, and it is not worth the wait when all you receive in return is poor service and treatment from management. There is not many places down the shore to grab breakfast, but we will be going else where. The business has not been open for that long so hopefully when the owner has more experience, they will be able to fix the many issues. read more

Some Blonde employee just came storming out of the back room and yelled in our faces! !! About not being 6 feet apart .... we're family and everyone in masks! I have NO IDEA why she couldn't speak to her PAYING CUSTOMERS in a nice way. She stormed over, yelled then stormed away. I am totally regretting not just leaving. Who runs a business that way?!?!
