Bakery is awesome. Across the board, Pastries, breads, rolls, cakes, pies and cookies. You can't go wrong. Number one item is the crumb cake, it's the best in NJ! On the weekend, go early or be prepared to wait! The place gets very busy. Service is always good. $10 min for credit cards, however there is no min for debit card, they also have an ATM. The bakery used to be reasonably priced, but they took a very aggressive price increase for the summer of 22. Not and issue for the weekly renters, but very noticeable for locals. Alli and the Colonial Bakery team are ahhhhmazing! I cannot thank them enough. I have searched everywhere for a traditional NJ hard roll with poppy seeds and get a bakery to ship. It was a gift and not easy to find. Alli answered my emails and calls right away. The rolls arrived fresh and on time. Updating my review as we visited again in May and were pleasantly surprised by all that we had. The donuts were MUCH fresher than our last experience, and the apple filled coffee cake was to-die-for. We did pickup bagels elsewhere due to our last experience, but I wouldn't hesitate to come back for donuts and pastries! And they have a new feature where you can preorder online and easily pickup! This place is definitely not a fancy coffee shop type of bakery, it's better. It's a local bakery and I love it because it is so easy to run in, and grab some pastries or a basic coffee to go. You can see all the sweet treats displayed and they always look great. I love coming in the mornings to grab a few pastries for the day, and the staff is always so nice. My 80 year old husband, a retired NYPD and Viet Nam Vet, took my grandson to the bakery to purchase some donuts for our beach house. While there, my husband was in desperate need of a bathroom and was told NO. At that point, my husband could not control himself and urinated in his shorts. My grandson, 8 years old, made sure that he took his embarrassed grandfather the less obvious route back to our beach house so no one would notice. THIS IS A DISGRACE. A wonderful bakery and a beloved part of town for many year. My entire family sneaks away here for their sprinkle cookies. They are amazing and come in fun shapes like ninja turtles, crabs, or cookie monster. And by the way, no one is too old for a fun character cookie. There's a lot of good bakeries in NJ, I'd say this is a good one. Crumb cake is slightly above average, it was quite fresh tasting. The cinnamon bread with raisins is also good. If you are ever driving on the parkway south you should stop off in Lavallette for the best jelly donut ever. Colonial Bakery hands down has the best cinnamion sugared jelly ever. It's light and airy and it has a load of sweet delicious jelly in it..Not like those other donut places you go to this one has all the right amount of everything in it.
