Very fresh sushi and at a great price! Would highly recommend if you're in the Bellevue area!

Our first time ordering from them today. I ordered tamago sushi. I did not receive tamago sushi. I showed it to several friends who have lived in Japan and have eaten tons of sushi. Nobody knows what the heck I was served, but it was not what I ordered by any stretch of the imagination. It was also inedible. It tasted like cake slapped over rice. I tossed it. The fried rice was bland. We tossed it. My husband's yakisoba was soggy and disgusting. The food is very overpriced given its quality is so incredibly poor. It was an expensive lesson, but alas. We will never eat at this establishment again. read more

Quality brown rice was cooked perfectly. I usually go with specials, they're fresh, frequent, and fancy. Bars looking fully stocked for dinners. Wow is all I can say. Let me start by saying that omahans are spoiled in that we generally don't have to spend much time in the car to make it to our dining/cocktail choice for the night so a trek to Bellevue may be outside some of our comfort zones but this drive is well worth it. My dad and I did something different tonight - chef's choice and by that I am not referring to the chirashi but a true chef's choice where the chef sent multiple plates, each containing 2-3 pieces of fish, until we told him we wanted no more and were full. Each plate was a heavenly surprise. The fish was melt in your mouth quality, like nothing I have experienced outside the San Francisco Bay Area and so fresh I thought I could taste the ocean. No soy Sauce, wasabi or ginger needed, the fish was so delicious it needed nothing else. The rice didn't have sugar and no goop on top. It really is an honor to have such a wonderful sushi chef in the area, selfishly I hope he opens a spot in Omaha! read more

There wasn't much that impressed me at Umami. Between the six of us, I think the only two things that were really good were the hot green tea and the ginger dressing salad. As an international foodie, I was excited to try another Asian restaurant. Unfortunately, Umami is not one I will recommend to anyone. The customer service was seriously lacking, the food was okay and the prices were average. The most this restaurant has for is it is the decor and cleanliness. Seeing as I'm not in Bellevue very much, I don't foresee trying Umami again. Then again, if I am in Bellevue again, I might still try another place. Happy eating Yelpers! read more

Every time I've been here we've had the same server. She's super nice! Food is super good and decent priced. I always order without tempera and it's never been an issue to modify my order. Last time I went I tried the red curry and it was sooooo good. Just the right about of spice. I actually asked if next time I can ask for more spice. The spicy mango rolls are fabulous. THE BEST SUSHI IN OMAHA! This little gem has the freshest, most delicious sushi of anywhere in Omaha. My wife just kept saying "wow" with every bite. I had the hibachi steak and shrimp, which was excellent. Both the steak and shrimp were prepared so the taste and texture were perfect. The vegetables and fried rice both tasted excellent. The service was impeccable! We never waited to have our drinks refilled, nor was the waitress intrusive. The prices were very reasonable. I felt the sushi prices could be higher, and with how far above the sushi is compared to other places in town, Umami could get it. In short, if you love excellent sushi, make the drive to Bellevue. I use to go to a sushi bar in Scottsdale, Arizona that I absolutely adored. I could not find anything close to it since moving. Not in Virginia and definitely not in Omaha. For as great as our food scene has been getting, there are two areas where I feel we are lacking, sushi and indian. For sushi I thought I had to settle with Blue which sucked because their prices are ridiculous. Though they are good, they are not great, not to get away with those prices. Now this place is great! More than great, it is hands down the best sushi I have ever had. I had a tuna and cucumber roll, a rainbow roll and a spicy tuna. My boyfriend had the dragon roll, softshell crap roll and a crunchy california. We definitely brought home leftovers and they were great the next day also. The fish is very fresh and the quality was superb. The sushi was perfectly made, I've never had fish be this tender, which is the mark of having skill. The sushi chefs are indeed talented. Best. Sushi. Ever. (Well, in Omaha that is). I lived in Japan for over 10 years, and this is a VERY VERY close comparison. When we came in, we ordered 5 rolls and just asked the chef to make whatever he wanted for us, and we would devour it. So, about 10 minutes or so later this beautiful plate of sushi came out. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. After that experience, I do not even think i will order anything off of their menu. I think from now on I will just order a few rolls and let the chef decide. First off, make a reservation. This will save you a lot of time. There was already a long wait when we arrived at 615. Also, bring your patience. We had to wait an hour for our food and it didn't all come out at the same time. Once we finally got our food, it was very food. The waitress was very friendly and there was someone walking around to make sure that your water glass was filled up. I would come back again but I'm going to wait for them to work out all the kinks and for the craziness to die down. read more

Umami is one of my favorite sushi spots in the Omaha area and a true hidden gem in Bellevue. The sushi is always fresh and perfectly put together. The menu has a pretty decent spread if sushi isn't your thing (chicken hibachi is delicious and a pretty good size portion!). I'm all about the sushi and will typically get variations of the yellowtail, salmon, and tuna rolls. Umami has done a great job with these uncertain times...placing an order is a breeze and they will call you when your order is ready to pick up/approach the window. I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. We ordered four different rolls, all of which were fantastic - extremely fresh, great portion sizes, and very flavorful. I'm not sure about the other dishes, but have heard great things and can't wait to go back and try some different items. It's pretty safe to say that this is probably, if not, THE BEST sushi in Omaha. I'm not 100% sure of the backstory, but I've been told that the owner (or head chef...I can't remember) is a transplant here from the coast and had the ultimate goal to bring the most fresh ingredients here to the Midwest. I am one that tends to frequent Sakura Bana and Blue here in Omaha. When i'm traveling, I always look for a sushi place to eat, so I have had some variety. We ordered the Dragon Roll and the Nonstop Hot Tuna rolls and found them to be excellent! Our little one ordered the chicken fried rice off of the kids menu and I found the portion size to be excellent and had great flavor. At $4.95 with a drink, a great value! The menu has a wide variety to choose from. Those that don't prefer raw should have plenty to choose from? They did a great job remodeling the space, including booths for those of us that prefer them. The sushi bar had a great look, don't be fooled by the exterior and landscaping around the building though. Umami is worth a visit to judge for yourself! read more

I love this place, especially their sushi for two entree. It's by far the best traditional sushi I have had in the metro. I recommend the Nigiri. It's incredible as the chefs are clearly well trained in how to clean and prepare the fish. Sushi rice is always plump, warm and delicious. With deep connections to some of the best sushi restaurants in North America, Umami is a gem of restaurant in the Midwest. Go and eat lots of sushi. I put my hope up for the newest sushi place in Bellevue and I was not disappointed. Umami offers a large menu with different kinds of rolls and specialties, along side hibachi and some Chinese dishes. I sat at the sushi bar to watch the chefs and it was entertaining. Chef Keen proves his skill through the way he handles ingredients. I can see that the chefs pay good attention to details, which is what I expected from good sushi chefs. I ordered the Flashed Fried for appetizer, which has tuna and albacore rolled inside with some avocado, and deep fried in tempura batter. The fish was still fresh and tender on the inside while the batter outside added a good crunch to it, which went very well with their ponzu sauce. My Coconut Shrimp rolls and Mango Shrimp rolls were fresh, delicious, and satisfying. The rice on each sushi was nice and thin, just the way good sushi should be. You can tell that they offer good and high quality food here. Another surprise for me was their prices. If you come for lunch, they have very good price offers for the lunch combos, lower than most sushi place in Omaha while the quality is just as high. Even the prices for their regular menu is reasonable. Chef Keen told me that I can request a kind of fish I like and they can try to order it for me. They are very open to what customers like and try to offer as many authentic favorites as possible. They even asked me for my favorite kind of tea, even when I was already happy with the good pot of Japanese tea I had. Overall, this place is the real deal and they are passionate about the food they offer. I wouldn't be surprise if they become a big hit very soon! I would definitely come back for more! read more

One of the best little secret places here in the Omaha area for sushi! The Chef's history as a chef out in NYC that studied under Jiro was also pretty interesting! I've been to some of the more well-known sushi places in Omaha like Blue and Hiro and I feel like you're paying a little more for the ambiance rather than the actual quality of the sushi. Ps. Got the Sushi Flight.. :) For a more authentic experience of sushi in the Midwest try Umami! My guess is this place will become a hot spot in the area within the next year! Enjoy!! read more

I was in Omaha for work and was tired of the typical chain joints or heavy burgers. Nice ambiance in the restaurant. I started with the pork gyoza, which was fantastic! Highly recommend. Had a hard time deciding between General tso's, pad Thai or the hibachi. Went with the tso's and it didn't disappoint. Was a good portion, not too much or little, and the miso soup with it hit the spot. I will set visit again when traveling through. Also my server was great. I didn't get his name but he appeared to be the manager since most servers were going to him for things. But that didn't stop him from taking care of me and his other tables. read more

I am so glad to have a sushi option in Bellevue! The atmosphere was great: clean and modern, no scary dragons or outdated geisha masks. We were seated within a few minutes, but because we were waiting on another couple, we had a hard time getting ahold of service to refill us or get other items for us. I opted for the green tea, which was not my favorite. Then, we got Crab Rangoon (delicious! Worth it) And I ordered the philly roll and my fiancé ordered the super tempura... I made a mistake in ordering the Philadelphia roll because I hate the TEXTURE of raw fish: and well the Philadelphia roll features smoked salmon-which is cooked-it's still very much has all the raw, tough properties. Upon its arrival at our table, I sampled a piece of the roll and confirmed my suspicion's. At this point, we called over our waiter and explained that though I ordered incorrectly and was at fault, I was not pleased with this dish and wouldn't want to eat it. Our waiter did his best to assure me that it was indeed a cooked salmon dish... but that wasn't the problem, it was the texture I didn't like. Long story short, after trying to explain this to the waiter for a few minutes we politely let him walk away and I continued picking around all the salmon. I am giving this review three stars, not because there's anything wrong with their food or even their environment, but simply because the wait staff did not help us solve our problem, offer any alternate solutions or even seem to try to understand my aversion to the dish I ordered. Their lunch deals seem to be a great price, and I will still consider returning in the near future during the lunch hours. As for dinner time, a $25 ticket for a meal that left me running to the grocery store with a hungry stomach wasn't a pleasant experience. read more
