I normally have a rule about not eating fish when I'm landlocked, but whenever I travel, I always end up craving sushi because my husband doesn't eat fish. I'm in Omaha for a conference and wandered over to Akarui for a light bite between lunch and dinner, right around happy hour. I can say without hesitation that I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. The quality of the fish was outstanding. I also had the pleasure of chatting with Sunny, one of the owners, who was absolutely delightful. She shared the story of how she and her husband moved from Brooklyn and opened the restaurant five years ago. She explained that they receive fresh fish deliveries twice a week, and it absolutely shows. Everything I ordered was phenomenal. Fresh, beautifully prepared, and every bite exceeded my expectations. It was our first day here and we just got done taking care of what we needed to for the business. Now, we were hungry. When I saw this place was not far serving ramen, sushi and bubble tea there was no need to look any further. Was it a good decision? We'll find out. The venue is large and spacious. The vibe and ambiance was nice. The staff were constantly moving around adding to the experience looking busy. It wasn't packed but many tables were occupied. We were seated on a table for 4 for just the two of us. I started with a melon bubble drink. My favorite. I was impressed it came in a tall serving. Don't let the size fool you. It just looks good. It tasted good too but you're not really getting more than other places. We both took the house special ramen. Not disappointed either. The creamy broth was soothing going down my throat. With the right amount of spices it did a good scratch along the way. The tender pork paired well with the perfectly split, boiled egg. The sushi on the other hand was decent. The rice ratio is not good compared to what we were use to getting. Taking that into consideration that made the pricing high. Because the ratio wasn't there the taste was lacking. The presentation was spot on. They looked different too but that made it interesting to look at. So glad I didn't try the poke. Service was good, mechanical, but acceptable. Our favorite yearly haunt before hitting the River City Mixed Chorus' annual holiday concert. I tried the Vegetable Gyoza and it reminded me a little of a samosa. Very delicious. I also ordered a ramen bowl, but was very jealous of my friends bento box with grilled salmon and sushi. Shout out to the server for remembering us from last year and providing awesome service yet again. One note, please get rid of the bench seating! We hit this spot up again with friends the other day and it did not disappoint! The shrimp dumplings were delicious. I just wish there were more, they are that good. Our ramen was exceptional! I added cilantro and shrimp with a side of the hot (chili) oil. The hubby added extra ramen noodles but no shrimp this time. Our daughter enjoyed hers as well. This is my first time coming in, and the poke bowl I got was absolutely delicious! This is a great spot for affordable sushi/Asian food. It was pretty authentic as far as I could tell! The overall vibe of the restaurant is more on the casual side. The bathrooms are tucked away in a corner, seemingly shared with another space for the kitchen. The single stall women's restroom was not the cleanest, but definitely usable. Nothing about this spot absolutely blew me away, but it was a good meal for an affordable price. I was in a new area of town and decided I would give this place a try after browsing the menu. Poke bowls, sushi, and ramen, how could I go wrong? I tried the Hawaiian Classic poke bowl. I admit having corn in it was a little bizarre, but overall it was quite tasty. The poke sauce had more of a kick than I was expecting from the description but I like spicier things so that wasn't an issue. The server was friendly and good about coming to check on me. The place has booths and tables so a bit of everything as far as the setup goes. Good for a quick meal or spending more time over a meal. It was surprisingly not crowded during the week at dinner time, I'll have to come back to try more things next time I'm over that way! read more

We opted for the sushi route and enjoyed Edamame (it was ok, not awful but definitely far from the best we've had), Eel Roll, a Tuna Roll, and a Spicy Tuna Roll. All of the rolls were great and prepared exactly as ordered. They also had gluten free soy sauce, which was appreciated. We made a reservation for 5 pm for two people on a Saturday night. It wasn't busy when we arrived but became busy as we left. The service was quick and food prepared very quickly. The Akarui ramen was delicious. The broth so warm and savory and the beef tender and flavorful. My wife enjoyed her chicken teriyaki and the portion was massive! We also got the crag Rangoon and chicken karaage for appetizers and those were also delicious. I highly recommend this place and prices were good for the portion sizes. read more

We were staying at Hilton and Akarui was very close to our hotel. I love the ambiance at the restaurant which signifies the cuisine that they offer. Our table was closer to the street and Omaha is a very calm city, we got to enjoy the city view with our food. The crew was very sweet and patient. The price was reasonable and portion size was large. We ordered Peach Dragon fruit tea with popping lychee boba and it came in the cute Kitty sipper and they taste refreshing! The sushi was delicious. It was one of the best sushi that I have tasted. I tried Takoyaki for the first time and it was extremely delicious too. The Poke bowl was quite nice, although we were fairly stuffed by then. Overall we had a memorable experience and we steeped out as content diners. Was staying at the Marriott and this place was just around the corner. I was skeptical, because I'm from Seattle where seafood and sushi have a high standard. The other Yelpers and their reviews swayed me to give this place a try. So I got the bento box A. This came with teriyaki chicken, gyoza, california rolls, and seaweed salad. The chicken was a perfectly cooked chicken breast with a very light sweet sauce on top. I appreciate not having my chicken overcooked, which is usually the case with chicken breast meat. The seaweed salad was light, refreshing, and slightly salty with a hint of the sea. The gyoza was perfectly crisp and delicious. California rolls were decent. Overall, the portion was very large and I devoured the entire box. We ended up coming back another night where I ate a spicy ramen noodle bowl. That was decent, but I'd suggest trying the bento box and some sushi rolls. My friends had a variety of rolls and they really like it. I also ended up getting a boba drink the second night. Was in town for the CWS and had passed Akarui a few times over the week. To be honest, I thought it was going to be an upscale ramen house. It was more of a ramen/poke bowl Chipotle. That being said, I appreciated the casual setting and the food coming out of the kitchen looked good. The service was curt and quick. I'm embarrassed to say I had to google some of the items on the menu as no additional description is given for many. I ended up ordering the Harumaki (veggie spring rolls) to start. They were served with a sweet chili sauce and were very hot when brought to the table. The portion size was good. They were crispy and had good flavor. For my entree I got the Akarui ramen. It was delicious. I loved the broth and it was a great portion size. The pork was tender and the other mix-ins/toppings were perfectly cooked. I was sad when I got to the bottom of the bowl. Very full, but sad. I'd definitely return to Akarui. I'd be tempted to get a poke bowl but it would be hard to leave the ramen behind. read more

This has been a good place to eat before going to a show at the Steelhouse (across the street). We have never had to wait long for anything. We've had a variety of food there. On my most recent visit, I had the chicken katzu. Fried thin chicken cutlets with a breadcrumb coating, with sushi rice and a vinegary sauce. If you don't pour the sauce on it (and you might want to use it sparingly anyway), it's a lot like schnitzel. This was delicious, though there are definitely a lot of menu items that involve vegetables and are not fried so are surely healthier choices. The brown sugar latte was delicious. I came in yesterday and ordered the spicy chicken ramen with the lychee fruit tea drink. It was not spicy at all and lacked flavor and requested extra spicy sauce on the side to add on it but was given jalapeños and the red pepper. Something to keep in mind is that if you want it extra spicy request it beforehand so that they can add it in the broth while they're preparing it. A thing they can add on their menu is having grated/minced garlic as it gives the broth extra flavor. I paid extra for the garlic oil and did not like the taste of it as it was too overpowering and completely changed the flavor of the broth. Adding ginger to the ramen gave it more flavor that it was lacking. Service was great and amazing! The lychee fruit tea was really good and recently today I had their karage chicken with the fruit tea w/lychee jelly which were really good! read more
