I crave beauty products like folks crave chocolate. I've always shopped for both the high end products in department stores, to the cheap wet & wild nail polish, and the red maybelline eyeliner at the drug stores. Ulta provides a happy mixture of the two worlds. I've shopped here for years and can't stop visiting for makeup that, were I honest, I don't really need. There's just something about playing in products for new looks and color palettes, trying new scents, and the inviting bright lights & orange aesthetic. It's a saving grace that Ulta provides regular coupons, bogo sales and clearance sections. Cosmetics are as expensive as clothing these days. The Ulta brand products are great dupes if one is truly on a budget. The app is very helpful for creating shopping lists ahead of time in order not to spend like crazy going in store without clear direction. I particularly love this location and the helpful staff. They've been great for years. Most of the products are always fully stocked. I also frequent various stores within this strip mall, so I usually make a half day of shopping. read more

this altar location is probably one of the few that I frequent the most often. Parking here is kind of a hassle due to the fact that it is near a Shopping Center with a Trader Joe's in Petsmart, among a few other shops. However, don't let that deter you because typically you can get in and out fairly quickly here. I recently stopped in to get my make up done before a wedding . Checking in, was simple near the salon. I was told that the make up artist was running behind, but she would be with you shortly. No worries I have plenty of time before I had to leave for the wedding later that evening. Ash what is my make up artist and she was an absolute delight. I don't wear make up often, so I simply asked for a natural elevated look and she truly delivered. She was very easy to talk to, and I would recommend going to her again. I am knocking a few stars off this review, because the women at the checkout counter were too busy chitchatting, than helping the customers in line. I hope this does improve in the future. read more

The workers are very nice and helpful but recently a drunk driver hit the building and it's closed for a while and like they can't help that.But one of the things that I don't like about it is every time I go there something is destroyed or people steal stuff all the time like packages of stuff is just wide open and stolen. read more

I am writing to express my profound disappointment and concern following an unpleasant experience I had at your Ulta store #658 in Royal Oak, Michigan, a location I have frequented and favored for the past couple years On the evening of my recent visit, I encountered a level of customer service that was, regrettably, far below the standard I have come to expect from Ulta. Upon approaching the register, I observed that the cashier, Taliyah, showed a lack of basic courtesy as the customer ahead of me completed their transaction without any greeting or acknowledgment. I myself waited several minutes before I approached the register, at which point Taliyah proceeded to ring up my items. Throughout the transaction, Taliyah's demeanor was dismissive and unprofessional. After scanning my items, she turned sideways, making communication difficult, and asked if I wanted to sign up for an Ulta card without making proper eye contact. When I declined, she stated my total but did not inquire if I wished to use my points. Upon my request to use my points, she applied them but once again turned away while continuing to speak unclearly. As I asked for clarification again on her speaking she stated "your total "and pointed to the payment device to show me my total.I printed my receipt .Taliyah proceeded to put the receipt in the bag. At the end, when I asked for my receipt and bag, she responded dismissively without handing me the bag directly. she proceeds to tap the bag and said "it's yours, these are your items" without passing the bag, further emphasizing her dismissiveness. Disturbed by this conduct, I inquired about a manager. Sales Manager Gloria arrived promptly but instead of addressing my concerns professionally, she accused me of being on the phone during my visit and suggested we move to a quieter part of the store to discuss the matter. I declined and requested she write down her and the cashier's name along with a contact number. Throughout the exchange, Gloria's attitude was confrontational and unprofessional. I asked Gloria what was her and Taliyah title because only first names and phone number was written on the receipt . As I'm writing I asked Gloria what is Taliyah role she stated beauty advisor Taliyah also unsolicitedly offered advice despite my clear indication that I did not require it , stating "And I can advise you". Taliyah offered unwanted advice, further escalating my frustration. The entire experience left me feeling disrespected and extremely frustrated. Having been a loyal Ulta customer for nearly a decade, I can state unequivocally that the customer service I received that day was the worst I have encountered at any Ulta location. If this interaction reflects the standards and leadership at this store, I fear I may no longer wish to continue shopping at Ulta. As a result, I intend to return the items I purchased and withdraw from the Ulta Beauty Rewards program. I sincerely hope that no other customers endure such treatment at this location. Every time I come to this location every employee is super pushy about me not wanting to put my number in their system. The last time loudly in front of another customer they asked them to put their number on my transaction which I felt weird about and didn't love being asked in earshot of the other person. It's never an issue at other locations so I'm guessing it's a management issue. read more

I like to give the benefit of the doubt but Ulta has some things that need to change. I stopped in this store earlier today to pick up a couple things I needed to restock on. I was wearing my gym clothes because that's where I was heading next and wow I can't even begin to explain the looks I was getting from workers. Nasty looks. Ulta needs to start prioritizing customer service rather than bashing on their clients just for how they show up in the store. Ulta gets my money cause I enjoy their point system but I hate nothing more than actually going into these stores. Workers are always so rude and judge mental. I must confess I don't buy my makeup from here but it's a good spot to get some deals on large bottles of shampoo, conditioners and lotions. They often have displays set up right up front on any of the three products and I take full advantage of whatever large bottles are on sale since I use a lot of conditioner on my long locks. I love Ulta you can't go wrong with desks. This one didn't have as many travel size fragrance as the ones I've been to before. But I still ended up purchasing all my needed favorites while I was in there. Very friendly and helpful staff, I love that they now have the refillable fragrance bottle which is a plus. Because now you don't need to toss the bottle and purchase another one, not sure if it's all for all the fragrances. But it's for my new fav scent, a nice selection of Lancôme which is a plus not to mention the Mac selection is really nice. read more

Usually beauty consultants don't take the time to know the products but at Ulta I can ask pretty much anyone for their assistance when it comes to comparing products and matching colors. Amazing location and staff! I was blown away. I got my hair and makeup done here for an event and was very nervous. From the moment i walked in, everyone was friendly and welcoming. Rachel did a phenomenal job on my makeup and she is the sweetest! We laughed and chatted the entire time and she was super honest about the products. She never once tried to upsell anything!! Plus, my makeup was gorgeous, especially difficult because i had a terrible breakout of cystic acne just days prior. I actually didn't have an appt to get my hair done but they made arrangements so the shift manager could do it. She even stayed late to help me. I looked amazing!! Came in on a Monday around 1145am. A plus is the Store is stocked with all the goods just difficult trying to find them because customer service is almost non existent. I felt like I was being a bother when asking for help trying to find foundation / concealer for someone besides myself. When I actually found the makeup I was looking for I pulled a empty container that was boxed. With my instincts the box felt light. I took out the foundation and low and behold it was almost empty. At the cash register I wasn't offered a discount even though I had enough accumulation of points for my final sale I had to ask. I'll continue to go to the other ULTA"s not this one. WORST haircut of my life. Kels (Kelly Hartsfield) cut my bangs at least 3 different lengths, there's a chunk in the back that's an inch shorter than the rest and it took her an hour and 45 minutes to do it. Imagine Bambi learning to walk... that's what watching Kels cut my hair felt like. I asked her several times to fix the bangs and cut pieces that she forgot, that were noticeably longer than the rest. I came in with a gift card and was browsing around not knowing what I wanted and I got followed around the whole store like i was some thief? I then asked a sales associate where a certain perfume was located in the store, she said they didn't carry it but I ended up finding it myself. This store has the worse customer service. I don't even think that the floor staff are properly trained. I went to buy some nail polish removers and saw on ULTA's website that there is a buy 2 get 2 free promotion. The staff didn't know about the promotion at all. She asked around and finally found the promotion. There were only 2 products on the shelf so I asked if they could check if they have more in the back. The staff said that's all they have. I waited her to give me an alternative solution like they'll ship the other 2 products or I can come back at a later time. Instead, the staff just looked at me until I said 'so.....how can I get the other 2.' She said I can try a different store or buy it online. I asked when the product is going to be in stock and she said she doesn't know. After that she was just looking at me waiting for me to decide just buy the product and forget about free 2 or go to a different store. It's not that her attitude was rude, but she surely had no idea how nor had any desire to help me. You can find wax, cream, scrub, bows, gels, dry shampoo, polish remover, zit remover, blemish tools, curlers, dryers, scents, toners, moisturizers, dyes, relaxers and that's just the first 5 isles. This place is my glam, guilty girl pleasure. I love myself and my beauty sans products but I look damn good with a few purchases from Ulta. I can have retail therapy on any budget here. I can shop when there's a party and I need great gel on a $8 budget AND I can come for the best skin care and hair care products that treat my body well. Finding select lines like Phyto and Nioxin for my thinning, dry hair is relieving. It is much better than searching for a glam salon that inflates the price of those products to make their profit. I've visited the salon a few times, only because my stylist began working here. I am pleased with her work but I won't venture to rate their stylists as a whole. From Clinique gal who didn't suggest I could order the oos product; to the bos gal who was more interested in the facial she just had than trying to help locate nail gel top coat (for which she admitted she knew nothing about), to the consistent oos and misplaced I nventory; to the check out gal who tried ordering the wrong product; this was nearly as bad as shopping at Walmart. Really love going here and walking the isle for hours. This place is like girl heaven. I can get lost in here and never know I was gone. When they have sales, they have really great sales. I got a whole make up kit for $14. I swear I have every shade of eye shadow made. My friend and I go here a lot to have girl time and browse and talk. I like how the sales people are not too pushy and annoying. They are a good balance here. My only complaint with this place is that they do not have a selection of hair dye. That seems weird to me. I like hair, I like make-up, I like exploring new products therefore I like Ulta. I've been a loyal Ulta customer for many years and when I moved to Royal Oak the Woodward location became my go to spot. This location is nice because they have a Benefit brow bar, which is always a plus. I enjoy trying new products and I appreciate that Ulta does a lot of in store events that allow you to try new products or new lines. I recently had a Stilla makeover by one of their artists and found a new mascara I really like. Ulta also has a great return policy, you can return something even if you've opened it if you don't like it, it's the wrong shade, smells funny....whatever your reason and they'll let you exchange it for something else. Not many places would do that but they want to make sure your happy. The only thing I cannot speak to about this location is their salon, I'm loyal to my stylist. read more
