I like to use a variety of brands, from Nars to Dior to Urban Decay...but for some reason, MAC keeps pulling me in. I know the reason, their mineral makeup, their amazing eye shadows, and their luscious glosses!! Their foundations come in gels, powders, liquids, and more. The blushes are amazing and the staff is so much fun! I recently had my makeup done by Glenn for a wedding. He was great! I was invited by a friend to attend a make up class at this MAC location. Registering was as simple as calling in to the store and adding your name to the list. The cost of the class is $50 which is often times prepaid at the time of registration by buying a gift card. The great thing is that the card is used to buy products in the store after the class, which really makes the class free! The class was held on a Sunday morning before the store opened. We were checked in and escorted to an area of the store where chairs were arranged classroom style. Each chair was equipped with a notebook, pencil and bottle of Fiji water. A visiting MAC pro make up artist (Brian) demonstrated tips, tricks and techniques using various products on a model at the front of the class. Afterward, there was time for shopping before the store was opened for business, with exclusive access to Brian and personalized attention from the MAC Somerset makeup artist manager and staff. The staff was super attentive, answered all of our beauty questions and tried out various products on our faces. They were absolutely great and appeared to love what they do. The store carried multiple lines of makeup and beauty products for all skin types and every desired look. The selection was endless! I signed up for the select rewards program which offers certain perks and goodies as you collect points for purchases. I'm sure it won't take long to accumulate points since I had such a great time today that I plan to visit frequently! I highly recommend this store to anyone who is into make up and beauty that wants make up classes, quality beauty products and great service and attention! read more

I went into this store yesterday and said to the salesperson, Amber, "Do my eyes smokin' hot to bring out the green in them and I'll buy all the shades from you!" Little did I know it would take SEVEN shades to get that effect. Seven? Do women really wear seven different colors at once? Well, my eyes were smokin', but seven shades at $14.50 a piece is a bit ridiculous. I bought a really nice creamy base to help the shadows stay put. Along with that I got three colors to define my eyes. I love them! I did not need to touch up my eyes later that evening.. the colors lasted through the night. Amber did a great job! I'm $63.60 poorer, but I was smokin' hot at my class reunion! M.A.C. products are great. I hope I can achieve the same effect on my own. read more

MAC won my everlasting adoration at the tender age of 8 or so, when I spent an hour staring in the glass corner unit, watching a handsome artist transform a girl from interesting to amazing under his wildly talented brushes. How can I not love a company endorsed by Elton John and Shirley Manson, the endlessly gorgeous lead singer of Garbage? Truth is, I would drop a heap of cash on their professional palette and count myself enriched every step of the way. No other makeup company comes close to the strength of their pigmentation, the glassy hue of their lipglosses, and sheer freespirited experimentation with wild colours. I put myself in their hands to try wilder combinations and come out surprised and delighted almost every time in how they pair together. MAC stuff is forgiving for beginners, encouraging to intermediate experience make-up users, and sheer bliss for the experts. I've not found a powder foundation that rivals theirs for silkenness, and frankly their eyeshadows had me at 'hello, I'm Blaze and that's Velvet Temptation over there, and have you met this glorious violet-plum iridescent sparkle powder with gold and black?' No, we haven't met, but I'll be carrying that off with me to my boudoir, thank you. I love the seasonal changes and the new, wonderful ways they pair things together. I'm not always a fan of the look, especially if it involves Nicki Minaj pastels shellacked on. Prices are high but I've never had an issue with quality and MAC sticks by satisfaction, returns, and quality. A brush breaks, powder crumbles instead of staying fixed, or a mirror pops off a compact? It's substituted with a smile. Most of all, I like the people who work at this store. They're a funky, creative, frenetic bunch who flock to their work with passion I wish I could equal. Alas, I don't get to be in so delightful an environment. I used to go in for their makeovers on a really bad day, though they charge $50 (for products in return) nowadays, at least if I recall. Either way, it's a welcoming, very clean shop and customer service is great. This store is deadly, but I adore it none the less. Things to buy from MAC: eye shadows! foundation for the eyes lipstick -- especially the reds pencil eyeliner NOT to buy from MAC: mascara (you can get that anywhere) foundation powder (it leaves me looking too flat) any make up tools (get them cheaper at Sephora or Target) If you want to achieve a certain look, but have no idea how, you can call up and make a "free" consultation appointment. The catch? You need to spend $50 in make up after it. I'm a huge fan of debutante red, it looks just like the reds you see in the movies from the 1940s. For standard every day eyeshadows I adore retro speck (a gold) and shroom (a natural shimmer). The eye shadows BLEND like paint, it's a beautiful and amazing thing. Their shadows are unlike anything I've ever used. And at $14.50 a pop, at least you know you are getting what you paid for. read more

I went in specifically for the Disney Villain themed cosmetics, and this store thankfully had the entire line - even more than I knew they made! SWEET! The salesgirl patiently waited while I tested out nearly everything and brought me makeup remover pads when my hand got too covered with stripes. She even helped me pick out a few items that I wasn't sure about; I wanted the Evil Queen lipgloss but it just looked so bright, but she assured me it would look great with my coloring. Lo and behold, it turns out to be my go-to lipgloss now, and indeed looks great! She also said that once the containers were empty, I could bring them back for recycling and trade 5 of them for a gloss or shadow, to which I said HAHAHAHA because these containers are so cute, I might just frame them when they're empty. It had been years since I visited the MAC store and I'd forgotten how much fun it was. I may even find myself going back for non-Disney themed items in the future! read more

I am referring to the new location, on the first floor of the North half of the mall. I am young. 19. And I look younger. But I know my shit. I walk in with a full face of makeup, looking for particular items. The older lady working there appeared to be the only employee at the time? She was the farthest thing from friendly or helpful. I'm used to being ignored at health/beauty places just because I look more like a young teenager. However, I made it clear that I was planning on making a $200+ purchase. I was so disgusted by how coldly I was treated, that I ended up going to the Sephora upstairs. (And got my Mac items in the Macy's) read more

I loves a shiny, pretty MAC store! And this one is no exception. Since the Fairlane MAC store closed, this is the only freestanding one in the area. MAC cosmetics is my one-stop-makeup-shop. The staff here is amazing and always super-friendly. I never get that MAC pretension that some people will complain about. The layout is always super clean and organized. I feel that the manager here runs a tight ship, and makes sure that everything is always up to standard. One makeup artist here (I think her name is Amber?) is absolutely stellar. After a trip to Douglas J, where the student jacked up the most basic makeup, Amber fixed me up and made me look like a normal human again. Luckily, this happened when the store (and the mall) wasn't busy...I think it was like Wednesday early afternoon. However, this location now seems so busy, so you may have to wait for a minute or two before someone can help you. Call ahead if you do want to have your make-up done, I've seen them have to turn away people because they are so busy at times. read more

I made an appointment here to have my makeup done for my maternity photos. It started off well, the girl helping me seemed nice enough and was not angry that I showed up 5 mins late (thank goodness!). Couple issues... I asked for no eyeshadow and naturally she loaded it on (only makeup she actually applied in the 45 min I sat in her chair). After that, she just kept wandering off helping other people without even letting me know! I was just sitting there like an idiot! Finally, I had to go as my maternity photos were scheduled for 30 mins from then. I ended up THANKFULLY having some junky makeup in my purse that I applied in the bathroom at Nordstrom prior to the most expensive photos I've ever taken in my life. Pretty upsetting. I cried the whole way to the pictures, ruining my makeup and will likely hate the way I look in every photo. Thanks for ruining my day yesterday, MAC. read more

Just walked out of the store. Had every intention of buying a new lippie and replacing my foundations today. I'll wait until I can make it over to see Mattie at Nordstrom. What was the issue, you ask? I walked in made a bee line for the lipsticks and a couple walked in behind me. An employee walked past me, gave me a quick "hi" then proceeded to ask the couple how she could help them. I'm not one to make comparisons and go into detail with speculations (sike), but let's just say there was enough reason for me to come out of yelp retirement. There were definitely *cough* disparities between the two of us on the outside but money is still green. That's why you don't judge books by their covers and you don't base spending power on appearance. Spent way too many years in retail, so I can read between the lines. Although it seemed like there were only three salespeople on the floor on a busy Saturday, I was helped right away and this shop has endeared itself to me by doing exactly what I asked for...give me what I'm asking for and need, wrap it up, get me out the door, don't try to upsell me. I'd just bought a plum-colored dress for a party the next day, and after scoring a smoking deal on that, decided to pamper myself with a complimenting MAC lipstick. The salesgal listened to me, peeked at the color of the dress I'd bought, and immediately plucked out a color that I now wear as my daily go-to lipstick (Sequin), it's that perfect. For fun I also asked for a classic go-to red and was introduced to the magic of Russian Red. Yes, it's pricy, but the quality is second-to-none (the makeup artist at my new salon worked at MAC and still has nothing but good things to say) and it's a delicious little girly splurge. read more

I really enjoyed my visit to the MAC store today, it was my first time ever. Wanted to find the right concealer for me and they SA was so helpful. We tried a couple colors on, found the right formula for my skin, and I was misted up cause my skin was a little dry. I really liked the turquatic perfume they sell too, smelt sooo good. My experience was nice, helpful, and efficient. I'm very happy with my new concealer and I may be a MAC fan in the making. read more

I cannot express enough the positive experience I had at my first visit to the M.A.C Cosmetics store at Somerset Collection. I made an appointment for a learning session because I needed some fresh ideas with my makeup routine. My "guardian angle" was with me that day because I got NANCY(!) as my makeup artist. I was so fortunate! I arrived early for my appointment and was promptly greeted and informed Nancy would be arriving shortly. Sure enough, Nancy was right there at my appointed time. Nancy spent all the time with me I needed, even helping me take before and after pictures and allowing me to video the procedures of applying the makeup and the makeup products she was using on me. I was the most impressed with the change in my face with just the foundation. Remarkable! Nancy will forever be my makeup "go-to" person, and I will forever be a M.A.C. loyal customer. It is so wonderful having a one-stop shop and expert advice to go with it. I now have my staple beauty products which will take the guess-work out of mix-and-matching makeup products. I am not only content, I am enthusiastic about daily beauty routine. Throughout the couple of hours I was at M.A.C. I am extremely disappointed with my experience for my wedding, which is not even here yet. I booked Michelle Palmer MONTHS ago bc she did a fantastic job with the makeup at my sister's wedding a few years ago. Unfortunately, she has bailed on me THREE times since then. First, the day before my bridal shower, she called and told me she had mandatory meeting Saturday morning and therefore could not do my makeup as planned. Next, she called me the DAY OF my engagement pictures and told me she had TIGERS game to attend, and she thought it was later in the day, therefore she had to re-schedule me. At that point, I was concerned but bc I had booked her months ago, and because I liked her makeup work, I decided to try again. I have called her a few times in the past week to schedule my trial with her before my wedding, which is 4 weeks away, and she tells me she is busy every weekend (I live out of town) and without trying to come up with ANY solution, she gave me the name/number of another artist. I feel extremely disappointed and quite frankly disrespected. I have tried to be patient with her and she continues to screw me over. Regardless, as much as I LOVE MAC makeup, I can't really be loyal to them for my wedding - too much to risk. So frustrated. read more

I've been using Mac Cosmetics since 2001. I initially went because I was trying to figure out what make-up artist I would use for my wedding day. I fell in love immediately with the service and the culture of the cosmetics. I have had tons of consultations at just about every Mac store in the Detroit metropolitan area and none of them have ever steered me wrong. I like this particular counter because of the size and there are usually 3 people working when I go. My wait isn't long and I feel great after I leave. An appointment isn't necessary but I recommend making one. I really like the fact that the service and artistry transcends from mall to mall! read more

These artists are fun and not at all pushy. They really listen to what I like and work to compliment my favorite features. I've been to this counter twice and both times I have left with a bag of goodies and smokin' smokey eyes. I only wish the prices here were a bit more budget friendly. read more
