This was my first experience at Blo, but not my first experience with blow dry bars. I have tried several other blow dry bars in the area with good results, so I didn't expect this to be any different. I was able to book an appointment online very quickly and easily. They asked for my hair type ahead of time, which was a good sign. It should not be a surprise that I have long, thick hair. I don't bother with downtown Birmingham too often, so I was not entirely aware that Old Woodward was completely torn up in front of where Blo is located. I do wish this was mentioned at some point during scheduling or appointment confirmation. I'm glad I headed over early because otherwise I would have been 15 minutes late trying to find a place to park, and trying to find where this place was located. Once I made it, they were quick to start my appointment right on time. She asked me what I was looking for, washed my hair, and then got straight to drying and styling. I was looking for big curls for a wedding later that afternoon. She gave me tight curls via straightening iron, and explained how to brush them out a little later so that they would be big, loose curls in time for the wedding. I was feeling so good about this. She was such a pleasure. I appreciate that they are doing cashless tips through Venmo. Once I left, I got ready and headed to my event. It was maybe 45 min later. I never even had a chance to brush out those curls, they had fallen out almost immediately. Because she had used a straightening iron, it looked like I had straightened my hair, instead of curled it. I'm disappointed that the curls didn't even hold for an hour. I've had previous success with blow dry bars and curling irons, but I've never had my hair curled with a straightener. At this point, I don't know if I'll come back or recommend this place. It was cheap enough that I might reconsider, but for now, I'll keep looking. read more

What a fabulous experience. Nestled in the heart of Birmingham, Blo did not disappoint. I'd been to their location in the UK (London), but never before in the states. Fairly similar to Drybar, but in the best possible ways. I had a classic blowout with a fishtail braid accent, and for $38, it was worth every penny. I would second the reviews of feeling this business is making customers feel like an inconvenience. The front desk and text operations at this business is totally rude. Calling to inquire about services and ask about possibly scheduling an appointment, and no one picks up the phone. Just incessant texting, as if that's an acceptable response. I didn't text you. I called to speak to a person, to ask questions, to inquire about services, to gauge the welcome factor. Your first impression is so important. The fact I'd have to go through all of this just to speak to someone at the front desk to make an appointment is ridiculous. From what I've gathered, this place has a poor business model. Pretty disappointed by my trip to Blo today. I've been there a few times before and have always left happy. I'm a pretty easy customer to please - even if my hair isn't my idea of *perfect* when I walk out the door, if it's clean, shiny and presentable, it's good enough for me. I can always tweak it when I get home if needed. The stylist I had today seemed to be very new and/or under-trained, which I blame more on the business than on her. She was extremely sweet and was clearly trying her best, but she just seemed inexperienced. I have thick hair that I only wash 1-2x weekly, so it takes 2 good shampoos to get a nice clean scalp on me. The one shampoo she did was just not thorough enough to do the job. Worse, the back of my head/nape area barely got damp, and it definitely didn't get shampooed clean. I probably should have said something at the shampoo bowl, but I didn't want to put her on the spot or embarrass her. I had asked for a style with volume and a soft wave. My hair was blow-dried in a downward motion flat to my head, rather than pulled up and out for lift. A quick rough blow-dry with some scalp stimulation would have created a better base and would have taken less time. I had warned her about the cowlick in my bangs, but she let them hang damp for too long and so the part that formed was impossible to get out and they looked pretty terrible. A more thorough shampoo and a better blow-dry technique would have made this a perfect experience, because the waves she did with the flat iron were beautiful. It just wasn't enough to fix my greasy, flat hair and my bangs sticking straight out. I ended up washing and re-styling it when I got home because I just couldn't stand how dirty and flat it felt. Like I said, I'm not tough to please...but I do expect my hair to be - at the very least - clean, when I leave a blow-dry bar. I'm not sure I'll be back after this unless I can find a way to request someone more experienced in the future. read more

Bree did my hair! She did a fabulous job. I was running a few minutes late and if you're more than 15 minutes late they won't wash your hair. I was 10 minutes late, and the fact that they didn't know I had long hair, they were reluctant to doing a full appointment for me (aka no hair wash, and only a straight blowout) since it would push the next appointment off by 10 minutes. I have to say I am hooked. I had never been to a blow dry bar before but my sister in law suggested I go for my bachelorette party. I can't remember who did my hair but she did such an amazing job that I came back. The second time I came I had a different girl and my hair still looked GREAT. Great experience! I have super long think hair and Molly did such a great job curling all of it. My hair doesn't hold curl well and I am happy to say the curls still looked just a beautiful the second day. Prices were very reasonable. I got a wash, dry and hot tool style for $38, I can't be that anywhere with the length and amount of hair I have, plus I was in and out fairly quick. I will defiantly go back and tell my friends and family about my great experience!
