I'm really not sure what all the hype is about, but I was very disappointed. I complained to the owner and they really didn't care so add poor customer service to the list of their failings.

I was a long time customer of the Royal Oak location with Lauren as my stylist. When she decided to offer a couple of days a week at the Birmingham location I jumped at the chance to begin scheduling my appointments there. It is a wonderfully relaxing environment that I appreciate after a long day of work. As for Lauren, she is simply the best. Attentive to my feedback (she inquires with every visit what's working and what may not be working with my hair) and she is always willing to offer suggestions and input. She also cut and colored my daughter's hair before she moved to Boston - and my daughter still talks about not having found a relationship with a stylist that matches the one she had with Lauren. If you're looking for a new stylist in Birmingham, I highly recommend you consider Lauren! read more

When God made Valentina, he was showing off. I am not kidding. She's not just a hairstylist, she's a technical master at her craft. You know you have a great stylist when you sit down in the chair, they listen to your input, and explain everything they are going to do before they do it. Totally fabulous. My hair comes out stunning every time, and with balyage a lot of times you have make touch-ups a routine... V is truly the master of the blend so even though you don't have to come back, you want to ;). I have been getting a blonde balayage with cut from Valentina for about a year now. Every blonde knows how hard it is to find a stylist who can actually give you the right color you're looking for and without severely damaging it. Valentina was a savior to my hair!!! She has given me the blonde I have continually looked for. She has actually gotten me to go 12-14 weeks in between colors as well ( I use to go every 8). Valentina respects your budget, doesn't push products or unnecessary treatments and gives great advice when needed. I have seen Lauren G for the past 10 years! I actually travel all the way from port huron just for her! Lauren is beyond creative and keeps your best interest at heart. I recently had a baby and ALOT of my hair was falling out. She gave me alot of helpful advise while I was going through this traumatic time. I live in Miami, but come to Michigan quite frequently, about 6-8 times per year and have tried out a few Royal Oak and Birmingham area Salon's. This was my first visit to Alex Emilio in Birmingham, as it has just opened. I just love love love it! Staff is super friendly right when you walk in. I had Balayage/ base color/ cut done this time. I came in for an Olaplex deep conditioning, cut (with layers), and style. As you can see from my before and after pictures, my stylist Sarah performed a true miracle. I was in and out quick, but did not feel like she rushed her job. Sarah was meticulous in her work and was easy to chat and relax with. I think she could have done more layers, but I understand wanting to play it safe on a first visit with a new client and building from there. The service came out to $60 (with tip) and was less than half what I've paid at other salons around here. I also got a discount for a referral (around $10-15) and now my referral will get a discount on her next visit!

The first inconvenience of the day was that I got a call around 8 AM for my 1 PM appointment that there was a scheduling error and that the stylist I was working with had a bridal party scheduled and forgot, so I would have to either reschedule or cancel. Unfortunately, I didn't see the voicemail until I woke up an hour later, and when I called they notified me that the 2 alternate times they mentioned I could reschedule to had been filled. The good news was that I was at least able to get an appointment scheduled, however I expressed my concerns that it would be cutting it super close to my event, and they reassured me I would be out of there on time. Alas, I got to my appointment 10 minutes early, and I wasn't seen for almost 30 minutes as they were running behind. The main reason I'm giving 4/5 stars is solely because I actually loved the haircut, regardless of everything else that happened, I got exactly what I wanted and the stylist did a great job of talking everything through before starting. The one thing that really surprised me was how much I disliked the blowout! This salon is almost known for their bouncy blowouts, so I was very surprised to see that by the time I walked to my car (5 minutes) my hair was flat! My hair holds curls/blowouts VERY well, so I'm not sure what happened, but I called the salon notifying them how disappointed I was as I had another event the following day and they let me come back the next day to touch it up (free of charge).
