I started going to Marisa when she was at Todd's Room and I became obsessed. Imagine my disappointment when I called to make an appointment with her at Todd's Room and I was told she no longer worked there. Thankfully, I heard that she opened her own place. Marisa is the QUEEN of eyebrows. I have been to many different eyebrow artists in both the Detroit area and NYC - Marisa is the best. She makes my eyebrows look fantastic and perfect for my face. She has an eye for seeing the natural arch and enhancing it through perfect shaping. She has never once over-plucked me. Her new studio is beautiful. It is fun, eclectic and sexy. I only have one complaint - that it is located in MI and not CT, where I live. I guess i'll have to keep coming up with excuses to visit Detroit every two months...because I won't let anyone else touch my brows. read more

I used to go to Marisa (one of the co-owners) for a brow arch when she was at Todd's Room. Then I skipped out on my brows for awhile (Todd's always closed before I could get there after work), and HOORAY! I found Marisa! She started her own cute little place in Birmingham with a partner. The area is much easier to get to (better parking) and her prices are the same as they were at Todd's ($28 for an arch). Pricey for brows, for sure, but they were perfectly plucked and looked gorgeous when I left! My favorite part is the hours. They have later Friday hours, and are even open on Sundays! My brows are back in business, and I will be bringing them to Masq from now on! read more

Easy parking at meter. I breezed in for my first visit, introduced myself and the receptionist yelled (yes, yelled) that I had arrived. I sat in the chair and tried to be pleasant and make small talk, but my aesthetician groomed me without introduction or much small talk and was more engaged with the next chair's client and aesthetician about "flamers", my technician's impending move and the other technician's frequent cussing. I didn't find them very friendly or interested, but my aesthetician did do a nice job. Twelve minutes and $30 + tip lighter, I returned to my car. read more

When I called to make an appointment the owner told me that the wax they used was soy based and vegan. I had the appointment on June 17th and she again told me there was no animal ingredients or derived ingredients, and that they used Lycon. I later found out from Lycon that the only waxes that are vegan that they carry are: Lycotec White Hot Lycotec White Strip Active Gold strip Rosette strip Soberry strip Aloe Vera strip Azulene strip Manifico strip I called Masq Beauty back and asked if they used any of these waxes and the lady that answered the phone said they do not, and read me the ingredients of the Lycon wax they do carry and it was NOT vegan as it contained beeswax. I asked to speak to the owner regarding this misinformation and to see if maybe she could bring in one of the vegan waxes from the company. I called 3xs and left my phone number and I have never heard a response back and it is now exactly 1 month ago. I feel this is unethical and unprofessional to tell someone they carry a vegan product when they don't and then to not even have the professionalism to return a phone call to address the concern. read more

I came here once several years ago, but lived too far away to continue coming. I now work in the area, and decided to go after work yesterday. I am very happy! Jessie did my eyebrows, and she truly took her time to do the best job possible. I started to get a bit scared because she was doing what seemed like A LOT of tweezing, but then I saw the finished product, and she was simply going over again and again to make the lines super clean! Jessie also noticed that the tails on my eyebrows were a bit too thin, but that hair was growing and should be able to fill in over time. She consulted me, let me know, and we agreed to let the area grow. I am so thankful because I may not have noticed on my own! This place is probably more expensive than what you are accustomed to- I paid 30 dollars plus tip. However, it is more than worth it. Too many places will do your eyebrows and slowly thin them out after awhile. Also, an esthetician once told me that if you are looking for a new person to do your eyebrows, take a look at the eyebrow artist's brows and see if they are too thin, etc. All of the girls at MASQ have perfect brows! Granted I purchased a Groupon and got a deal for a makeup application, but I am still a paying customer and believe I deserved better service than what I received. I purchased a make up "lesson", not application. I was not shown what to do, merely told what she was doing...and not that I could see because my eyes were either closed or I was turned away from the mirror. This was all in between her answering the telephones and walking around looking for makeup and tools to use. The lesson was for 60 min and I think she wasted 15 min dealing with the phones/search for makeup. Another 10 plus minutes was wasted on her touching up my eyebrows after I just told her I recently got them done at Priss. I was very disappointed in this "lesson" and didn't learn a darn thing. I've been going to Summerita for years! She's is truly the Michelangelo of brows. I always leave Masq with my brows perfectly arched. They also offer a beauty line as well as many other beauty products and accessories. There was a lotion I picked up here called Black Sand, it's smells like a dream and I truly can't live without it. I've been going to Jessie for eyebrows for a while now and she has completely transformed my shape. She doesn't get tweezer happy at all and truly listens to what you want. She waxes and tweezes (wax actually feels good. Doesn't hurt and doesn't make me break out afterwards like other waxes have). She literally spends more time on my brows than my hairdresser does lol. Highly recommend her at MASQ! She is a bit expensive- $30-33...but I'd rather pay extra than have tadpole eyebrows :-) read more

Danielle Taylor does THE best eyebrows at Masq (from what I've seen so far). And they do good work there so that's hard to accomplish. She was also THE best at Todd's Room when she was working there. I'm surprised that she doesn't have more reviews on here. Danielle has a very distinctive way of arching---which can be seen by how perfect her own eyebrows are. I've been coming to her for about 5 years now (and have tried other eyebrow techs) and I'm convinced that nobody arches as perfect as her. Sure its a bit expensive to come to Masq for eyebrows, ($35 plus tip) but Danielle is well worth it. She does them the exact same way every time. She never gets amnesia like some people do and ruin the shape of my eyebrows. When I leave Danielle, I feel like my eyebrows are giving Kim Kardashian's eyebrows a run for their money. I have gone to Danielle for years for my brows so when she left Todd's I followed her to Masq. She does a great job, but the service here is poor and the employees rude. The last time I went there was late summer and I had made an appointment weeks before because it's about an hour drive for me. When I arrived the receptionist told me they had overbooked and couldn't do my brows. I was shocked and asked couldn't someone else do them. The receptionist then went to each chair and loudly asked if they could fit me in and each one said no, even though one was sitting in her chair waiting for a customer who was already 10 minutes late. The receptionist then said she had tried to call me in the morning. I told her I never got a call and showed her my cell phone. She said she definitely called and I asked her how she could have when I had no incoming calls from her. She then started to mumble something and then said she had called and left a message with a man! No one uses my cell phone but me - she was clearly lying. During all this everyone heard what was going on and no one bothered to apologize or offer me anything to compensate for my inconvenience. The last straw - the receptionist then said she could do them. I asked her if she was sure she could do eyebrows and she said yes. She did them and I couldn't believe it - I could have done as good as she did. They then proceeded to charge me $30!!!! I have never had such horrible service anywhere in my life. They should have been totally embarrassed but it didn't seem to faze anyone there. I have never gone back. read more
