they were so kind and the color i requested was lovely, my only regret is not speaking up when i felt something was off during my cut. I wanted long layers and bangs and i showed the stylist pictures. Unfortunately the bangs and the face framing just do not look like what i asked for. DEC 2023- Craft Salon is a mess in the scheduling department, which is a shame since their stylists seem really talented :( I was excited to get a cut with Carol in May '23 but just a few hours before, I received a text from the front desk that they were running behind and I would need to reschedule or cancel my visit. This was super disappointing as I had booked the appointment weeks in advance, but I let it slide as things happen and salons get busy. I had no choice but to cancel as I was leaving the state and could not get an appointment with Carol before I had to leave. I wanted to give this salon another chance so I booked a cut with Carol for today December '23. I arrived at the address stated on this Yelp page and Apple Maps: 522 E 11 mile road, Royal Oak. Admittedly I was running a few minutes late to the appointment due to the storm and backup on 75 and communicated this to the front desk. When I arrived at 1:06 pm for a 1pm appointment it was clear that the address on this Yelp page and Apple Maps is INCORRECT - they are actually located in Hazel Park, which was 8 mins away. I drive to the "correct" location in Hazel Park but by this time it was 1:16 pm and the front desk would not take me. Unfortunately, trying to get in with this salon twice now has wasted my time and energy. I understand that salons run behind and sometimes we need to reschedule clients occasionally. I understand that arriving on time is ideal, but storms happen -- we were backed up in low visibility conditions on 75 at 30 mph from Auburn Hills to Royal Oak, but still made it to the appointment within a reasonable window ~ 6 mins late. What is inexcusable is the incorrect address on both Yelp and Apple Maps which causes unnecessary distress for clients. I will be going elsewhere, which I regret to have to do because I've heard nothing but good things about the stylists. read more

I actually live about an hour south of Royal Oak, but I was working on the area and wanted to try a new salon. After looking through many Yelp posts, I finally settled on Craft. I had some vivids put into the bottom half of my hair at the beginning of the year and I wanted them cut out. This would make my hair significantly shorter so it was important to me to find someone who could do a quality cut because my hair is straight any mishaps are easily visible. I wanted an A-line cut with some volume which I felt my stylist, Brittany, gave me. She also was patient and made small changes as I requested them. Instead of traditional layers, she did internal layers which gave my hair some volume after she styled it but is something I haven't been able to really replicate since. Overall I'm satisfied with my service however I agree with another user in that I felt the price was a little on the higher side. I paid the same amount for this cut as I have at other salons for a a cut AND color. For that reason, I'll probably go elsewhere in the future. read more

I love this salon! I feel like every time I visit, I meet the most interesting and sweet people. Natasha is my stylist. I always leave the salon looking and feeling like a million bucks. I often do highlights and a haircut, but she has also colored my hair in fun purples and plum. I always leave with exactly what I asked for, which makes me so happy. I have been to a lot of salons before visiting Craft Salon, and as much as I liked my former stylists, there was always inconsistency. Not with Natasha, not at Craft! She is a superhero stylist. I dislike the fact that I am going to write the first non 5 star review. I've actually thought long and hard about this review and I stand by my 3 stars, reasons to follow. I think it was time for a change but as you know, change is hard. I literally spent hours upon hours searching for a new salon. I read Yelp reviews, stalked Instagram and websites. Craft seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. A contemporary salon with young, fresh creative stylist who weren't afraid to try new techniques. But also a salon that used high quality products. So I took the plunge and scheduled an appointment. Scheduling was easy as you can do it online and select your preferred stylist, date and time. A few days later I was off, fingers crossed! I was greeted and offered water or coffee and then ushered back to a large table. At said table my stylist met with me to consult on what I was looking for. After chatting she left to go mix the color. I kept waiting to relocate but it turns out they actually apply your color at this large table with others. It was kind of strange but I guess it worked. Afterwards I sat and waited until it was time to be shampooed. Their shampoo bowls need some major adjusting. They are extremely uncomfortable and since my stylist had me sit there while she put toner on my hair I was literally cringing in pain, my poor neck! Finally after I was done, I was now relocated to a different room where the hair cutting/styling magic occurs. This time it's a more traditional area with normal beauty shop chairs and mirrors. Following my hair cut, my stylist abandoned me and some other girl came over to dry my hair. I was a bit taken aback by this but ok. However, things went downhill fast. This young lady was clearly in training and didn't even know how to do a blowout. It was so bad that after about 25 mins my hair wasn't even a quarter of the way dry, another stylist actually came over and showed her how to properly hold the dryer and brush. At some point my original stylist reappeared and took over. Now for the styling, loose curls (how I always wear it) was the goal. However my hair was so big that I could have won a Texas hair show. It was actual embarrassingly big and my stylist even acknowledged this but told me "it will drop soon." Well it didn't, and I ended up having to wet my hair and restyle it later that night. Now, color and cut wise I love it. The color turned out exactly how I wanted it and she did a great job with my cut. But what I was not expecting was the $190 bill that came with it. You read that right, $190! I literally was in shock. I didn't even know what to do. Do people really pay almost $200 for a haircut and highlights?!?? We aren't talking corrective coloring or purple hair or something crazy! I know my previous stylist never raised her prices for me and I was still paying $80 for the same service but more than double that?!? I just can't justify that. So that is the main reason I wouldn't be coming back or recommend Craft to someone who isn't filthy rich. I'm pretty disappointed about that! read more

I was drawn to this salon based on a couple of friends' haircuts. When I finally decided it was time to donate my hair, I knew this was the salon to help me out. Grace is absolutely incredible. She took the time to understand what my questions and concerns were - and freakin delivered. This is THEE first time I've left a salon with a genuine smile on my face. Really disappointed with this place and how unprofessional, inappropriate, and rude everyone, including the owners, were. I went in for a layered medium shaggy haircut my first appointment, and I was happy with the result, but the bangs were a little too long in front of my eyes, and the total was $200! Very expensive, but I enjoyed the atmosphere and the people. I even bought multiple hair products, which made the total $230. I booked a second appointment to have the bangs trimmed and have color dyed, and unfortunately I had to reschedule to a later date because I go to school out of state (5-hr drive to my home and the salon from my school). I was on my way to that next appointment, and I was 5 minutes away, and I had let them know in advance that due to the heavy highway traffic I was going to be briefly late. They texted back saying that because I wasn't IN the salon within an 8 minute window that they would not be taking me. Their window of late arrival is 10 minutes. I got there 1 minute later, and they denied services, saying their stylist had other appointments she has to get to, even though my appointment was 1.5 hrs with no one else in the waiting room. My father went in after me to try to explain that I was just 1 minute late and if they would reconsider, and the owner's husband approached my father in a white cut-out tank top with his arms out, preparing to attack my father and swearing profanities at him. The owner told my father that the stylist "already went home for the day" (was 4 p.m. on a Saturday), even though the receptionist texted me saying that the reason why they couldn't do services for me was because she had other appointments. The receptionist then said I had "cancelled and rescheduled 5 times already" (which was not true) and that they would not be taking me until I paid another deposit to book the next appointment. They told me to just go to another salon open nearby to get what I wanted done. I said I came here because I thought I fit in with the people, sharing similar styles and interests. I actually really liked the people at the time. They made me feel accepted and welcomed. But they were so disrespectful to a happily paying customer, definitely not their "safe-space" atmosphere they try to say they harbor, as they approach you ready to be physical and fight you. Just for being one minute late. As I was leaving, I saw my stylist coming down the stairs. So she hadn't left, and she was not doing services on another customer. I waited a few months, and after reaching out to them to try to book another appointment, they curtly said they were discharging me from their salon. I understand businesses can provide services to whomever they decide to. This review is not about how services weren't rendered at the time, because I understand the consequence of arriving late (though, 1 minute is kind of silly). Nevertheless, this review is about how they, as people and as human beings, treated others. The receptionist, and owners especially, all spoke so disrespectfully to us, using attitude and a lot of slang and rolling eyes. Not to mention just entire lack of professionalism in the businessplace. This isn't high school where you can bully others. I can understand if this was a repeated offense and I was a frequent canceller/rescheduler. But I was literally there, 11 minutes late, and they did not even offer to reschedule me with a deposit paid while I was there. They really don't allow you to "come back" (literally and figuratively) from your first accident. And for the owner's husband to overtower my father face-on, cracking his knuckles as if he was in a bar fight.. lol. My father was not even confrontational, and he was in professional business attire, he was just trying to help because he knew I loved that place. So much for making people, who are "different" than others in the world, feel accepted- They're bullies. Save your money. They would have charged an arm and leg for a simple hair trim. They would have pulled your arm and leg off just for the fun of it too. read more

I saw Jessica (Ghost) for a brow wax today and I don't think I could ever go anywhere else! She was extremely careful and meticulous, with great results. Super happy about how my brows turned out. Side note: most painless waxing experience I've ever had. Craft's atmosphere is exactly what you would expect for a salon operating out of an old house. It's unique, artfully decorated, and comfortable. It's not the open layout you might expect for a high end salon, but instead it is composed of different rooms/stations throughout the two levels. Waxing is done in a separate room upstairs. Love it. Staff has an outgoing and productive vibe, and they were so kind to accommodate my last minute appointment. I stumbled upon Craft Salon on Instagram and immediately fell in love. The unique charm of the decor, the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, the talent of the stylists. I was drawn to co-owner Sarah's shags and by chance was lucky enough to get an appointment the next day when someone cancelled. My goal was to get a modern shag that would accentuate my natural texture and waves when air dried. Sarah certainly delivered! She's so talented in a way that makes it look completely effortless. Hands down the most fun, comfortable, friendly, beautiful salon experience I've ever had! Sarah was so kind, understanding and friendly, talking me through the entire experience. Ghost is amazing! I went there for the first time today after going to the same stylist for 8 years so bc I was switching stylist I was a little nervous going in blind but she was awesome! All of the staff there is friendly and knowledgeable social. Ghost made sure to make me feel comfortable and sat Down with me to talk to me about what I wanted. I loved how it turned out. She massaged my head and neck when she shampoos which is bonus haha it makes me want to go back to just to get shampooed. On top of that the salon is dope the way it's decorated and the vibe. Being new to the area I was a little hesitant to go try out a new salon. You never really know what you're going to get when it comes to people & quality. I am SO glad I chose Craft! I don't think I've ever had so much fun getting my hair done. Liz Novak is stellar! I can't say enough good things about her. She is a color genius and totally personable. I love that their set up is different than other salons. You don't have to spend 3 hours sitting in one spot. The art/decor is fun and eclectic. Hi all, up until Jan 20 of this year the Craft salon had done me right for 4 years. Paula Demetria had always been a goddess. When I left the salon my hair looked great, I washed it once a week later ( in cold water, with their hair care products) and most of my color washed out and turn blue/green and I was going silver/gray balayage and the roots were darker and blended. I messaged Paula, I never called her any names, i told her I wasn't mad at her I understood everything she explained to me but this wasn't one of the things we had covered...I told her I was pissed at my hair and just wanted to know what to do to fix it...she lectured me about what she had already told me and I told her this wasn't one of the things we covered, she told me I needed to make my appts sooner...apparently I offended her by telling her my hair looked like poop....so she apparently went to the management at the salon and the owners, they sided with her, refused to fix my hair and refunded my money and discharged me as a client from the salon. Unable to return to anyone there. I was ok with this, whatever I will find another stylists what I dont understand is why in the hell did they discharge my 21 year old daughter who absolutely loved Paula, had nothing to do with the situation at all and wanted to keep Paula as her stylist, all of a sudden, she's blocked by Paula and discharged without reason and not able to go there anymore either......Wth is wrong with people? I have talked to so many people and beauticians about this and they are all appalled by this decision.....WHY WOULDNT YOU JUST FIX MY HAIR??? I own my own cleaning business and if one of my clients told me they weren't happy with the services I had provided youre damn straight I would go back and fix it until it was to the standard they are satisfied and not charge them for the extra trip since it was my fault for missing it in the first place because I want to keep their business, not throw it away. People used to be valued as customers/clients, I am sincerely disappointed that they can do this and suffer no fall back. All the girls are great at the salon but apparently you aren't allowed to have an opinion on your own hair, despite it being connected to your head and body. BIG THUMBS DOWM CRAFT SALON AND PAULA DEMETRIA, you can do what you want to me but I do not understand the purpose of what you did to my daughter who had no qualms at all and wasn't even involved in the situation. Not happy with my hair color, even after they tried to fix the yellow banding from my first appointment. Now it's yellow instead of the silver I had/asked to keep, has the banding still, and my hair is fried. Stylists/front desk person were all friendly though. read more

Where to begin. The staff is great. The place itself is beautiful. It doesn't have the sleazy antiseptic feel of other salons. It's cozier, but still stylish. You can drunk coffee, water, soda, or booze while you wait or whilst getting hairs did pretty. They also have lots of candy. I like candy. I feel like I've found the underground, VIP pass to the front of the line, way too cool for me salon. It may not be for you. If you curse, if wear black, if you perceive yourself a hipster, or perceive hipsters as a-holes, prefer the non conventional anything, bear with the rest of my review. I was looking for fun hair, super extreme color. I have been for awhile and have tried other places with a slight bit of disappointment. I didn't want great color that lasted only three washes. Trish gave me a complimentary consultation with conversation and pictures. She seemed unwavered when she booked me for next week. We hit it off right away, she treated me like a friend, and introduced me to her friends there. The set up is a house setting and to start I sat at a dining table with other clients. It's nice to share conversation with new people. Trish knew what we had to do for best results and I agreed. We talked like old friends. The salon has products I knew about but never seen, impressive. She had staff help at times to keep my hair from over processing. The color is top notch professional, like magazine quality. The cut met my " I want this but also that" description. Here's the kicker, most salons will do a blow out style with service, acceptable, but Trish did a full style with curling iron. That's above and beyond. She took pictures for the salon and I'm still in awe that's it's my hair. I expected to pay more, I woulda been okay paying more ( or rather my husband), but she's fair market value. I've had my hair done by almost all the stylists (from even before they opened craft), and they are top-notch. Liz is my girl, and i've seen her grow from a trainee to a very skilled color master. BTW - salons often have assistants help with hair... that's how they learn... you'll have that at every upper-echelon salon you go to. This was THE best salon experience I have ever had in my life...it felt like I was hanging out with my girlfriends at someone's house. Everyone was friendly, kind and funny...but the greatest thing was that Brittney knows curls!! Nice staff but on the expensive side. I went in to get dark purple/blue at the ends of my hair and a bang trim, so i figured since it was pricey that it would probably turn out nice. I was convinced to go more purple than blue with some blue added to the dye, which was fine. My color was not as dark as I hoped, looking more on the pink-purple side in most areas. After washing it 2 days later, it turned out even lighter. I did get the extra dye so I can touch it up, which I will unfortunately be doing sooner than expected. I also wanted my bangs cut at my eyebrows, but they are way above my eyebrows. It is the shortest they have been. My hair will grow back, but I am more disappointed with the color. read more
