Don't walk. RUN! First, Eda accused me of not paying the deposit, showed up for the appointment 15 minutes late, then proceeded to destroy my perfect dimensional blonde. Showed her a picture of variegated blonde, and when she was finished it was literally solid grey platinum! she claims she couldn't see the front of the hair in the picture. Give me a break! She attempted to fix it by throwing on a different toner. My ends are fried, and I'm sure I'm going to have to cut it off to a pixie. On top of it all, she made me pay her $275!!! I am writing this review to hopefully prevent someone from having the disturbing experience that I did at this salon. My $200 are down the drain with a hair color I didn't ask for, and I was degraded by Eda for asking if we could fix it. If you're looking for a hair stylist that takes accountability and handles complications in an ethical manner, I highly do not recommend coming here. I contacted Eda to schedule an appointment for hair dye. I had a blonde balayage and wanted to go back to darker hair. Eda had reaffirmed me that we would use permanent dye to transition from light to dark since I had no plans of going back to blonde. She also told me that we would not be using any toner during our appointment and that my new hair color would not fade. My appointment lasted less than 30 minutes. There was something placed on my hair for 15 minutes, it was blow dried, and then I was handed a $200 bill. I had never spent that much money on a hair dye service as simple/quick as this one, and I was pretty confused. When I left the salon, I noticed my hair had a vibrant purple tint to it, which is exactly how my hair has looked in the past when I received toning services. Less than 2 weeks after my appointment, my hair is now completely back to blonde. Not only is the color the opposite of what I wanted, it looks even worse than my hair did before. However, the most disappointing part of this experience is the way Eda handled this situation. When I messaged her some photos of my hair explaining that it had reverted back to blonde, she ignored my message for days and then eventually gave me an automated response that I could book another appointment through her link (which has a 1 month wait). She gave me no explanation. I proceeded to ask if she could give me a call to discuss this further and she continued to dismiss my messages. I was able to finally speak with her on the phone today. To begin, she offered no solution for this situation, even when I explained that I felt a redo or refund would be a very simple and appropriate way to handle this. She said the only thing she could do to fix this is "email me a hair lesson" so that I can increase my knowledge of hair coloring services. I don't see how that would be an appropriate solution at all. She eventually hung up on me by yelling that she is a "single mother" and "doesn't have time for stuff like this". Although I understand how difficult that may be, it is beyond unprofessional and unethical to intertwine your personal life into your business and make them like feel their concerns aren't valid because you have "issues that are more important than your business". read more

I thought it was kind of weird that I brought in a picture of what I wanted and they made me choose one of their pictures that was the most similar to it instead of just using the picture of what I wanted. I also used a Groupon and they said in order to get it dyed how I wanted it would be another 80 dollars... So I was a little put off at first, but my hair turned out pretty well and it was fine. It was definitely the best shampoo I've ever had though, like a full on scalp massage so they definitely redeemed themselves in that regard. read more

This was my first time at PB Hair Lounge, and fortunately it was easy to find. The salon is in a little plaza on Old Woodward, there's a visible sign in front of the building, and it has a sign that directs you to the basement of the building. The salon has a modern look to it and refreshments. I met Eda the owner, who was going to do my hair. I had a groupon for a partial bayalage and hair cut. I didn't quite know how I want my hair to by styled, so Eda asked me a lot of questions to get an understanding of what I was looking for. She was straightforward about what would work well and what wouldn't. Eda did a great job selecting a color for the partial bayalage. It turned out great, I've been getting a lot of compliments about my hair. The haircut style turned out perfect, my hair is naturally curly but I wanted a cut that was somewhat short since it was the summer. Eda cut my hair short in the back and long in the front. Overall it was a great experience! She was really informative about other options such as keratin vs. collagen treatments. I found out a partial bayalage means the top and sides get colored. Eda really knows her stuff and you can tell she is passionate about what she does. Right now she's a one man show, so you know you'll come out with a great hairdo! read more

Spoke to the salon the evening before and was given a time the next morning of 10:15. However, upon arrival, my stylist was still working on a client and I was informed my wait would be 45 minutes! This, after I had taken off work and paid $3 parking. I can't recommend a salon where customer attention is so lacking that appointment times are not assigned with more care. Whoever gave me my 10:15 time did not check carefully enough to see that my stylist would not be able to make that time. More attention should have been given when scheduling. read more

Disappointed, since the pictures depict beautiful work. I had purchased the groupon, brought plenty of pictures of the look I wanted, and when there upgraded (spending an additional 150) to the full balayage. I like my highlights to look natural and really stressed this. Ended up with highlights that were way too light and had an ashy look which clashes/looks fake with my warm base color. But the worst part was the placement - 2 fat stripes down either side of my head that could only be hidden if I wear my hair up. Spending over $200 on my hair is a big treat for me. Walking out feeling like I need to spend even more to repair this had me in tears. I'm glad others were happy with the service, I wish I could say the same. read more

Funny to read Desiqueen comments! A couple years ago, I was looking for a new salon, saw a Groupon and thought "What the heck! Can't be worse than the place I left!"! that was THE BEST chance I could have possibly taken! This is a Woman-owned business and all of the details in the salon bear witness to the female perspective. Immaculate in every way ! these two women are true artists in color and the cuts are precise. When you ask for a trim, you get it unlike so many other places where you get what the stylist wants. I scheduled 1 appointment then they called and stated they are now unavailable for that appointment so then had to push back 2 weeks! So I went back the day after I wrote this review to get my hair toned. Eda helped me out. She showed me book from which I could choose a color that I wanted. I wish I was shown this book earlier. Anyhow I paid extra $40 for the toning which I was made aware of during my last visit. But Eda waived off the fee to blow dry my hair, due to the earlier misunderstanding during my last visit. After toning, the yellowness is my hair disappeared and I felt like I could step out into the world again :) Anyway its close to two months since I got my hair done, and now the color looks exactly the way I wanted it. What a wonderful experience! I had a Groupon and therefore had to schedule my appointment quite a bit in advance because they only offer so many appointments during certain times, which was ok for me. The entire experience was great! Eda informed me of the balayage process, and what she could/could not do to my hair using it. Then she kept me informed through the whole process. She was personable and friendly! She helped me pick out product and recommended a styling tool for my hair. It was low-key and everyone was friendly. I also got a GREAT scalp massage. I would go back in a heartbeat but am moving out of the state. So sad I finally found a wonderful stylist and salon just in time to be leaving. Highly recommended. read more

Amazing! Luma did an awesome job on my balayage. I'd never done balayage before and she asked me questions to determine what I wanted my hair to look like and she completely nailed it. I moved to the Birmingham area about a year ago and couldn't bring myself to break up with my previous stylist -- I was driving Over an hour each way for a hair cut! However, after seeing a groupon for pb hair lounge, I couldn't pass up such a good deal. I visited for a cut and color about two weeks ago and I have received numerous compliments since! I really wanted to like this salon as it's minutes away from my house. Everyone there was polite. However, I had a really terrible experience with Luma. She was overbooked and rushed. Trust me, I have a newborn I wanted her to be quick but not so quick in the application of balayage (applied in 15 rushed minutes by pulling my hair roughly) that I wasted my time and hers. My cut is so uneven and my "full balayage" is just misplaced orange highlights as they don't use toners. I cried as soon as I left. Came into PB Hair Lounge with a Groupon, left very happy! Eda, the owner, is so personable and professional. Unlike most stylists, she let me know what she was going to do with my hair every step of the way. At other salons, I'm left feeling unaware of the process of coloring and cutting my hair. In contrast, Eda assured me every step of the way by telling me what products she was using and why, as well as what I should expect after the next step. I'm very satisfied with how my hair color and cut turned out. I'm not sure what the regular prices are, but with the Groupon, it's definitely bang for your buck! read more

As previous reviewers have said, Eda really took time to ask me questions about my likes and lifestyle to get a better understanding of what would be best for me. She gave me awesome balayage highlights and explained how they would help disguise gray hair as it comes in. She also cut my hair, which was awesome as well. What a horrific experience! I went to PB after hearing good reviews and purchasing a Groupon. The receptionist made me feel like a leper for even having purchased one. After coloring my hair, it was obvious that it was way too brassy. The stylist told me to see what it looked like the next day and call back if I wanted a toner. I called back the following day and was told there would be a $40 charge for the toner and $30 for the blowout...Really? What a joke! The Balyage application was sub par too. I decided to splurge and visit this salon. I did the full look book package and had an appointment with Luma. I showed luma the color that I wanted and that I would like 4 inches cut off my hair. Luma seemed excited and eager. When I arrived home following my appointment, my husband noticed that my hair was very uneven. The following day I had to return to the salon to have luma fix it. When I returned home, my husband told me it looked longer on the opposite side now. I called the salon and the receptionist stated that the owner would get back to me. She never did. So I emailed the salon. The owner stated that her stylists are not trained to do cuts of this caliber. They are trained to do trims only. Seriously. What high end salon stylists are only trained to trim hair?! I will not be returning. read more

Very very disappointed, I think they should CLOSE their salon after reading such BAD comments about their work. Groupon coupon is spam, they tried to get new customers and ask you to pay extra for other reasons. I have the same experience as Dame C. had last year in Feburary, they mess up you hairs and if you ready to pay more they will fix it. My request to future customers, if you really worry about your hair and your pocket, please don't got to this place. I really wanted to like this salon, given the reviews and some of the beautiful pictures I saw for Eda's work (the only reason why I am giving 2 stars). I checked with the salon and spoke to Kelsea who notified me that, unfortunately per their policy Eda no longer does the Groupon deal. It was only Nina and Luma that are available for the Groupon deal. I researched both of these stylist creations and felt that Nina would be a good fit for me. I had made an appointment with Nina for the Groupon full bayalage (10 days prior to my appointment) and then bought my Groupon (along with a gift for my sister who flew in from NY to have sister bonding time revolving purely around this event) with the confidence that I had already secured my appointment. The day before my appointment, 1 hour prior to closing, the salon had emailed me that my appointment was cancelled as Nina "was no longer with them." By this time my sister already had gotten on the plane to make the appointment the next day. Our appointment was supposed to be the very next morning at 10am. I ended up speaking to Kelsea the next morning at 10am to see what could be done about this last minute cancellation. I was not comfortable with using Luma, so I had asked to speak to the owner, Eda, to see if there was something they could do to to help fix this situation. Kelsea rudely refused to let us speak to Eda, could not give a straight answer when Nina had actually left, and did not seem to care to listen about my concerns. Customer service is definitely lacking with the receptionist. I would recommend the salon better train or better select their employees if they want to build their client base. If there is a situation where they cannot honor what has been promised they should do whatever possible to make the situation right, which they did not do. Not only was my money (local Groupon deals are non refundable after a 3 days of purchase) and time lost (I had also taken a work day off just for this), my sister's trip to Michigan was now ruined. read more

I would not recommend this place. I used a Groupon here for the balayage. I brought in a picture of a caramel balayage. Left with orange hair instead! They also charge you extra for toner, which is ridiculous. If you're dying your hair, who just bleaches it and leaves it? Toner should be included. Worst part was it was mentioned AFTER she had already bleached it. Like oh toner is extra. You clearly cannot do anything after the fact but GET the toner unless you want to leave with orange hair. Which ended up happening regardless. Would not recommend doing a balayage here. Good luck! read more

Absolutely love my hair. New to the area and needed to find a new salon to go to. Went in with a mixture of black/dark brown/medium brown hair and left with a medium blonde balayage!
