My hair is curly but I always straighten it. She got it straight with just a hairdryer. No flat iron. My go to hairstylists can't even get it this straight. THIS IS THE WORST EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD, not only with hair salons but service in general. Let me start with the fact that Ive been here 3 times already before with Amber and didn't really have any issues. First time was a hair cut and the following two appointments were for highlights. My last appointment I decided I wanted to overall go blonder. I booked my appointment for a highlight and haircut which estimates 4 hours. I was there for 6 AND 1/2 HOURS FOR HER TO MESS UP MY HAIR. By the time she was finishing up, they were closing the salon and turning off the lights. When I saw my hair I knew I didn't really like it, but I couldnt say anything because they were literally CLOSING THE STORE. At that point I didnt even want to ask to come back a different day because this is a known prestigious salon, and Im paying about $450 for what? I understand if there was a small mistake but my hair was BOTCHED, and I didn't see how bad it was until I got home. IF IM PAYING $450 AT A WELL KNOWN HIGH END SALON, I SHOULD NOT HAVE BANDING IN MY HAIR FROM THE BLEACH. My bangs were platinum and the rest of my hair was so brassy, patchy, and damaged. The back of my hair was also barely done and weirdly dropped off from the blonde to brown. I'll put pictures and videos. I don't understand how can take 6 1/2 hours and barely do the back of my head. I tried to call the salon and when they didn't answer, I left a voicemail and they never called back. For how upset I was, I was still very nice considering everything and said I was very disappointed and that I would not like to come back but asked if there was anything they could do to reimburse me. I absolutely hate complaining about a service it makes me feel bad and makes me nervous, but I felt like this is the one time I should say something. Again, they never called me back. At that point I let it go and had already got my hair fixed somewhere else. Here's where it gets worse. THEY CHARGE MY CARD AGAIN. They charged me for a booked out appointment after I tried to get in touch to cancel weeks before which is then when i left the voicemail and obviously was not coming back. I tried to cancel on the website but it wasn't working. At that point I just hoped that they eventually would know it was cancelled from the voicemail. After a month or so passes, I forget about the whole thing trying to block it out because it was so upsetting and I just promised myself I would never go back. BUT WHEN THEY CHARGED MY CARD AGAIN I WAS LIKE IM CALLING UNTIL I CAN GET AHOLD OF SOMEONE. It also feels like charging my card again was done ON PURPOSE, because I always would receive appointment reminders but this time I didnt receive A SINGLE ONE. When they finally picked up, i explained the whole situation and the guy was nice and told me the manager would call me back within the hour. I NEVER GOT A CALL BACK, not even the next day, next week, NOTHING. Even writing this is making me so upset because this salon doesn't care about its customers whatsoever or even care about doing good hair, they just want your money. I know this is long and I usually never write reviews but I wanted to help people possibly avoid the situation that I went through. DONT GO HERE!!! read more

Latest update from visit on 2/12/20 Today at the salon I was greeted by Toni who gave me a box of tissues because I have such a runny nose from a new CF medicine. Jessica is still amazing at melting colors together. Over a year later and Jessica is still the best hairdresser I've ever had! I've added new pictures from my hair cut/color from today. Her price is definitely worth it! I wouldn't hesitate to make an appointment. Ashley her assistant did a great job helping and had applied her makeup so beautifully, that as a trained makeup artist I had to compliment her. Jessica's work keeps getting better and better. Jessica J was amazing. My last stylist had messed up my hair color very bad. She worked efficiently with great detail. I have my second appointment with her this week. Super cool salon! They give you wine as you sit down, which is always a nice touch. Chelsea did a good job with my hair! I have thick, Asian hair, so I'm always a little nervous to get it cut some place new, but I love it! One thing I wish they told me about was the pricing of services beforehand. I had asked about Olaplex (since I was getting balayage and was afraid of the bleach damaging my hair). Chelsea recommended a different treatment, which cost additional. The salon is beautiful, modern, peaceful, relaxing, and tasteful. But the real treasure and what makes this boutique salon so unique is my hair stylist, and now friend, April. April has a very unique skill and artful mastery with hair. I came to her over two years ago after a recommendation from a friend. At the time, my hair was damaged horribly due to years of home and salon blonde bleaching. My hair was extremely dry, breaking off, and two totally different lengths due to the breakage. Coming to Alex Emilio, I was super self-conscious and afraid of what a stylist would tell me. But April was so reassuring. You know the people who are genuinely passionate about what they do? That's April. She won't bullshit you, and even the worst news always has a solution. I was hesitant to come to AlexEmilio Salon knowing the stigma of high end salons. I had all these expectations coming in but kid you not, this was the best experience I've ever had in a salon. The staff was very welcoming - didn't make you feel out of place at all! My stylist was Amy and she was the best! She knew exactly what I wanted with my hair after showing her a picture and it turned out amazing. She also had an assistant Audrey who came in and out of my appt (since Amy's a hot commodity) that was so relatable to me that I genuinely saw us being friends. I swear, the match was made in heaven between the three of us. My appt lasted 3 1/2 hours but it felt like an hour. Time really does fly by when you're having fun! Price wise, they are very reasonable. I have very long, thick Asian hair and I wanted blonde ombre highlights. I expected to drop at least $200 but first time clients get a 20% off of the first $100 spent. My hair totaled $165 but ended up paying $145. Hands down, this will be my salon til I find another (which will never happen) or if Amy decides to leave. read more

Every woman knows that you have certain fixtures in your life...sort of like Cheers. A place where everybody (or at least a few) people know your name, and you're always glad you came. A place that, should it go out of business, it would do more than ruin your day, it would be catastrophic. Howling NOOOOOOOO, flinging yourself onto the floor and maybe even an adult temper-tantrum catastrophic. For many women, finding your dream salon is one of those fixtures. I'm not a narcissist and I do my own mani/pedis, but my hair is a different matter. I started going gray when I was twenty-two, and now am completely 100% gray at a completely unfair age. Not just gray, but Stubborn Gray. Gray that pops up in a very noticeable and unattractive skunk stripe right around the 30-day point after coloring it. DIY box coloring for a few years had gotten tiring (especially since procrastinating such a PITA chore is something I do extraordinarily well) and so when a new job required me to always look polished, I went on the hunt for a new salon. Turning to Yelp (duh) I perused my Royal Oak choices and found that none of the options really appealed to me. If more than one review is very specific about a complaint, I take that to heart. I have no interest in a place where I know I'll feel judged by other patrons and the stylists. I don't want to hock a kidney to pay for a once-a-month necessary pampering. And most of all, I want my hair to look fabulous! Alex Emilio's reviews intrigued me...reliable Yelpers seemed extremely happy with this place. Even people with "challenging" hair were delighted. So I made an appointment and was immediately treated to the AE experience...they really bend over backwards when it comes to customer service. From working with my (also) challenging schedule to making me feel comfortable and welcome, they truly knocked it out of the park. I was (and am) hooked. My regular stylist, Casey, is one of those people I wish I'd known all those years I was box-dyeing. Once a month I eschew sleeping in on a Saturday morning and head in to see her, knowing that my day will be better for it. She works amazing voodoo magic on my hair...it looks better now than it has in my entire life, no joke. The color is stunning (in a good natural way!), the cuts are always A+, and on top of that you truly know that she loves her job and her customers too. I could go in cranky, sleep-deprived or under the weather, and just hanging out with her (while she works said voodoo magic) puts an awesome spin on my day. The most amazing hair moment came when I brought in a picture of some French actress (don't we all want to look like French actresses??) with SHORT HAIR. Keeping in mind that I'd repeatedly told Casey she could do absolutely anything with my hair EXCEPT cutting it short, she was surprised. But she studied the picture, determined that Yes, my hair could do that, and proceeded to give me the best haircut of my life. I've received more compliments on this cut/style than I have on my hair in general during my time on this earth. I can't recommend her enough. Matthew is entrusted with my eyebrows and is equally blessed with the voodoo magic...he tames, he wrangles, then the kicker is that he touches up my makeup (remember, I'm there at o'dark-thirty) for free. All with a huge genuine smile and enthusiasm that makes me just want to hug him repeatedly (which is fine, since he hugs right back). Yes I'm gushing but I can't tell you enough how much I love Alex Emilio...from their insanely helpful text-message reminders to their shockingly reasonable price structure (plus deals on products, which makes me weep with joy since they carry Bumble & bumble) to the fun events they have regularly to the staff that I adore...they have my little Yelp heart (and hair) in their hands. First time at this salon and Nicole was my stylist. I've gotta say she really knows her stuff. I came in for a toner and was telling her how dry my hair felt and how hard it has been to brush and keep from getting tangled. Nicole suggested a keratin treatment that doesn't break the bank (much needed in times like these). Let me just say that after my first wash since getting my hair done- the difference is legitimately tangible. Absolutely no trouble brushing my hair with no use of product to detangle. Whatever treatment she did for me is magical. I could even feel the difference during my wash. April is still a genius with the eyebrows. She's fabulous. I have some difficult brows, and I had Aubrey do them once and they did not come out as well. I believe her exact quote was, "Call and ask for Roman. He's a hair God." Sweet, that works. I was so excited about my hair appointment that I went a week early. My appointment was for Thursday, May 29th and I showed up Thursday, May 22. They were super nice about my airhead-ness, though, and scheduled me in for a later appointment that day. Okay, so I started going to Alex Emilio fresh out of high school after my favorite stylist left the upstairs salon, I think maybe I was still in high school.. regardless, I heard they did a good job. I moved to NYC and never looked backed at Alex Emilio for obvious reasons, plus my haircut in nyc was the same price and looked better. (Sorry guys!) Anywho, I recently moved back and got my hair cut and colored by Katy and I hate it. I really really hate looking at it.. I showed a picture of an orange-y copper-y girl and said this color and showed a short hair cut on some celebrity that I wanted. The cut is fine, I'm pretty easy to please about my hair cuts.. my last two hair cuts my friends and I did (just to give you an idea .. and no my friend is not a hairstylist she is a costume designer). Anyways, my color is the real probelm. Nowhere on my head is orange-y copper-y, it's like maroon red. The top is totally different color than the sides. Think *NSYNC Justin when they first came out, frosted tips on top and natural side. hideous. I feel so trashy with this dye job I have to go back and ask what they can do to fix it, if they can fix it. :( Also my stylist has a mouth of a sailor, which I don't really mind, maybe she feels that because I'm 24 I'm the same way, but I'm not. And it's pretty unprofessional. Do not book with Chelsea!! After close to 4 hours of sitting on a chair with foils in my hair, the results were extremely disappointing. Not only did she miss the boat on the color/highlights, but tried to convince me that we will need another appointment to get to where I want to get to? Are you kidding me?? I told you exactly what I wanted, showed your several pictures, and you said you got this... we will do ash colored highlights and then everything came out brassy, almost light orange and toner was applied and nothing worked came out like I expected - waste of time and money! I've been having my hair done by Steven for the past year and I've never been happier! He's very professional, precise, trendy and well trained! I recently had my long hair chopped off and my results were wonderful! I would not have trusted this big of a task to anyone else. I get compliments on my hair cut and color on almost a daily basis. I've come here for my haircuts for the past few years and have had a great haircut every time. I normally just ask for whoever is available and have had no problems. The customer service and quality of this place has gone downhill. I was not offered anything to drink or have my coat taken, even though other people around me were being asked. It wasn't until I went to the chair and had my huge jacket and purse on my lap, did someone ask me if I wanted it hung up. Then upon checkout no one offered to give me my coat back. I asked my coat back and they said sure go ahead and get it. When I asked for water at the end, they acted like it was an inconvenience. My haircut also wasn't great quality either. She spent about whole two minutes cutting it and the cut was not even. The whole experience felt like I was at Borics and not a high end salon. Will never be going back again. read more

I went to see Tony because he cuts a friend's hair and it always looks great. I have to disclose that I did hair for ages so I am not an easy client to please. Don't get me wrong I'm not picky I just know the difference between a great cut and a marginal one. Tony is a great guy, very easy to talk to, and best of all he listens.
