I give Bri at the Royal Oak location 5 stars every time she does my color..she is amazing..I also like most of the updates and changes made at this location..however..what I HATE is the fact you basically took away the do-it-yourself aspect that made this place so great..the setup and layout does not work..it's very inconvenient to use. That back area does not have enough room..it was poorly thought out and designed by people who obviously don't do the actual work.. now you are just the same as every salon in downtown Royal Oak or Birmingham..I came here to get away from those places..might be time to look for a new place read more

Tia is amazing! She really takes the time to listen to you and what you are looking for. My hair color has always been challenging, Highlights/Low lights, base etc. My hair color pulls warm. Tia has mastered my color and she has done a beautiful job! She also is fantastic with curly hair and takes her time to make sure they are perfect! I have other salons closer to me, but she is definitely worth the drive to Royal Oak. read more

I used this company in the past, when it was called Dye & Dash (a MUCH better name). I've been getting my hair colored by my stylist, but I had to cancel an appointment and still needed my roots done. So, I decided to go back (albeit at a new location). First, I tried to make an appointment at a salon near my house, but because the website lacked the zip code, I had trouble doing it, so I emailed them to find out how to do it. They called me back and made an appointment for me at the time I wanted for today. Then, someone else called back & said that they actually weren't open today, but she was able to get me the same time at the location by work, so I said that was fine. I neglected to read the text they sent because it was supposed to be the same time. But, I got there at 5:00, only to find that my appointment was at 5:30. The colorist -- the ONLY employee at the shop, with three customers -- was very nice about finding me a place to plug in my phone (the Rochester location had USB outlets under the counter). Because she had other people to work on, she didn't get to me until at least 5:45. The salon is supposed to close at 6:00 on Mondays, but the colorist was very kind and patient about staying later. However, instead of an hour of service, it was nearly 2 hours. I'd forgotten about the nickel and diming they do. While I was sitting there with color on my hair, I remembered that I wanted my eyebrows done, so I went over to the style bar and did them myself. She saw that I had done that, then took a brush and did them again. And then, she charged me $2.50 for doing that -- without telling me until after she did it. (I didn't realize she was charging me until she rang me up, and by then, I was tired & didn't feel like arguing. Although, I should have taken it off her tip.) She said she likes to dry the bangs for customers to see the color. I learned after I got home that it's because that's where you focus; I didn't see how over-dyed the top of my head was. She seemed to know that she did it because she said something about it looking brighter or redder at first but that it will fade. Yeah, it will. In the meantime, I basically have a red circle on my head. In the end, the only benefit to going to Dy n fly is that they can get you in fast. At $35 for just a root touch up, it costs about the same as the salon, they charge for silly things like eyebrows, they try to sell you their products as well as some kind of "club" where they charge you every month, and you still have to do your own styling or walk out with a wet head. Next time, I will suck it up and either live with the gray or do it myself. read more

I've been going to Dynfly for years - different locations and different colorists. Here's what they do right: the colorists are amazing. They're friendly and they do a great job. I love that Dynfly has a DIY blow dry bar complete with hair products and blow dryers. It's a great concept, with the idea that prices are cheaper than a regular hair salon because you're only paying for the color, not the blow dry or styling. But now, it's gotten pricey. For just the roots, it used to cost $35 in 2021. Towards the end of that year, it went to $39. No biggie. But every year after that, they've increased the cost by $10: $49 in 2022, $59 in 2023, and $69 in 2024. It's now about twice the amount from just 3 years ago. I give 5 stars for the service, but 1 star for the price gouging. Hence, 3 stars from me. read more

I had never been to a dynfly before so I was VERY nervous. But it was cheap and I needed a quick trip to brighten up my hair.. I had a half/half service with Emilee and she was just fabulous. She was friendly, inviting, and made sure I absolutely loved it before walking out the door. DynFly has changed my life! I was so sick of destroying the bathroom every month to refresh my hair and cover my grays. These ladies are on top of their game brought me to an amazing color after constantly dark box dying my hair the prices are so reasonable no where compares! I love the a la cart menu so I can pick and choose exactly what I want done the convience of not always having to blow dry is amazing most stylist would still charge Me for the blow dry even if I wanted to leave curly. Just found out they're doing eyebrow tints now for ONLY $5 like that's crazy cheap I love it will deffinatley be my main spot from now on read more

It is such a great concept at dynfly! If you are pressed for time and still want color, without having to wait weeks to get an appointment, you can get great highlights (or color) with any of the stylists! I just don't have time to spend hours at a salon so I love that it doesn't take forever and isn't astronomically expensive like so many local salons. read more

I'm quiet embarrassed to post this, but hopefully it could save some people the same experience I had at the Royal Oak DynFly at Woodward Corners. I've been to the Troy location and never had a bad experience, so if you have a stylist you like please don't be discouraged to continue to see them, this was just my experience. I went last week and received a horrific dye job. Half of my head was fire red the other copper and large pieces not even dyed and clearly shows my brunette roots. I reached out to the owner Jeff Hurley immediately and he did refund my money. I didn't feel comfortable returning to the same place that couldn't handle a single color dye job that took 2 hours to try and fix it, so I explained I had made an appt same day for 6 Salon and I stated my expectation was to be reimbursed for the original correction needed to fix their mistake. I sent him my receipt for 6 Salon and told him I did NOT expect reimbursement for the tip or the additional 2 appointments needed to correct my color to its original state. He called today saying he refused to pay me anything and he had already refunded me and that's all he would do. This is not how I would expect someone to handle such a botched job and the $20 "free" blow dry on my next visit isn't reimbursement enough for what I went through. read more
