If I could give zero stars, I would. I seldom leave reviews and, as someone who's worked in retail and in spas, I tend to sympathize with employees, even when service is somewhat poor. My hair is thick, wavy, and long--a bit of a pain. I have regular salons in Reno and the Bay where I'll get a shampoo and style and trim, it takes about an hour, and they always do a great job. I went camping for a few weeks. I wanted a simple shampoo and style, and they suggested a deep conditioning treatment at additional cost. $44 seemed a bit steep for just washing my hair--that's what it usually costs me at my other salons with a trim included--but I figured it'd be worth it if they did a good job. I warned them that my hair was pretty knotted and showed it to them, and they told me it'd take about half an hour [I secretly set aside a full hour, just in case]. It took two hours. For a shampoo and style. And they didn't even finish blow-drying my hair. And the only time my hair has ever looked worse was when I got a $5 haircut as a kid and the lady had completely fried it while drying it--it looked better full of knots, before I walked in. [I'm saying "they" because two girls kept switching off on me, and I only got one of their names and don't want to single her out when the experience was universally awful]. So: 1. Due to an accidental double-booking, I wound up sitting idly in a chair with conditioner in my hair, long after the heat dryer had turned off. I sat around for about forty-five minutes without so much as a check-in or a "sorry about that". 2. While brushing my hair, the girls made passive-aggressive comments about how tangled it was [and it was the roughest brushing-out I've ever experienced--even after I spent a month at Burning Man--they just jerked and yanked straight from my head without holding sections of hair in my hand, taking far longer than I would've to just do it myself, which I now wish I'd done]. They mentioned another client who'd come in with tangled long hair after a surfing trip, and that they'd convinced this client to let them hack off a particularly knotted area with an electric shaver and how she'd been distraught, but "she shouldn't have gone surfing with her hair in a bun every day". They implied that I should also agree to let them do this to my hair, to save time. One girl kept coming up and talking about me like I wasn't there. 3. They tried to convince me to forgo the styling part of doing my hair since it had "taken so long" and they were getting more walk-ins. I said, "Well, I'd like to get the full service that I pay for," a few times, but I was quickly growing anxious because of their seeming lack of skill/experience [especially looking at the uneven child haircut next to me] and in general [I'd had errands to do that evening and didn't count on spending two hours there]. She doused my hair in some awful hair spray, partially blow-dried it so it looked completely puffed-up and fried, and told me we were done. "Sorry, I know it's not dried all the way, but I have other clients." 4. At the register, the lady who checked me out had me down for an 18% tip. Normally I tip at least the minimum standard no matter how bad the service is, but when I just paid $44 to have my hair washed, tugged at, partially dried, and looking worse than it has in over a decade [not to mention receiving lots of passive-aggressive flak]...I asked her to redact the tip. She told me she couldn't do that--that she couldn't void the transaction. So I spent $52 for that miserable waste of time. I hate to sound all first-world-problems-y, but I'm furious. This is the first time in my life I've considered writing a company directly with a complaint. read more

I've been disappointed all three times I've been to this store. The employees stand around and giggle with one another and seem to do very little else. They staff are rude and have little product knowledge. If they ARE knowledgeable, they aren't imparting it to their customers. Today I asked for a staff person to recommend what she considered the best liquid eye liner. She led me to the most expensive felt tip style liner; completely different product. I recently Moved to Eureka, I really needed my hair done for a Very Big Event "Wedding"! I was afraid to use anyone other then my hair dresser but she is almost 300 miles away. SO I made a appointment.. They made me feel at ease so I had a partial weave... Everything seemed fine.. When I got home it looked like it was turning RED.. I waited 2 days and when I washed I had STAWBERRY Blonde HAIR... I called and talked to the person who had done my hair, which she made me feel like I was blaming, her and did I buy the shampoo. Yes I had purchased most the product's she had suggested. It didn't work.. the darker blonde color she used " Golden " went to Red and the weave which were way to many made my hair looked like a home box bleach kit. There are many things I appreciate about having a local Ulta, convince mostly. I have met some friendly professional stylist and sales associates also. However I'm giving the two stars for horrible customer service today. If you speak to a customer as if they are an idiot, and rudely they're not going to want to spend their money there. The funny thing is the rude sales associates only appear near the holidays. I could say a lot more on this topic but I know that the particular sales associate will be working at Roundtable before the beginning of next year, or maybe at the frozen yogurt stand. read more

Second: I went last night and got my brows done by Anna. I am super, super happy! She was so sweet, there was no pain at all, she got hem done quickly and did exactly what I asked. I went to Ulta for the first and only time to have my hair done a few days before Christmas. Not the smartest move on my part. But I was lured into making an appointment with, we having really great deals on color etc. So I went there for a highlight, color and cut. I told the stylist, Felicia, what I wanted and made sure to let her know that permanent color does not do well with my hair. So she got to work. Washed my hair first which should have been my cue to leave right then and there. Never ever ever has a stylist who is about to color my hair ever washed my hair first (and I toke her I had just washed it, it wasn't even dry). So it's washed and then she cut it and dried it. Now she starts the coloring/highlight process. We talked again and permanent hair color and how I do not want that. She said, "that is what I love about chromatics (I believe is the name of the line) because it conditions the hair." So she gets all the foils in and takes her lunch. I am looking around watching the other stylists work, noticing that I'm not the only one who has been there for over 2 hours already, probably closer to 3 hours. She comes back and it's time to wash my hair again. Then she tones the highlights as the color didn't come out right. Then washed again. Now time to style it. The salon manager dries my hair as Felicia had another client come in so she has started on her hair. As I am having my hair dried, I start reading the price list which is posted on the wall. I see chromatics color listed and right there in black and white in parentheses it says "permanent". I was shocked and didn't even know what to do. Any damage that was done, was already done. Plus at this point, getting close to the 5 hour mark, I just wanted to get the heck out of there. They finished styling my hair and to the cash register. Remember the really great deals? Well, it's the most I have ever paid to have my hair done. And I have been to a lot of stylists in a lot of other areas. I had stripes in my hair. The color was uneven, the cut was uneven. I sat there for 5 hours FIVE HOURS. If I have someone doing my hair for 5 hours, it better be damn near perfect. It was anything but perfect and cost me a lot. I called the following Monday and talked to a manager at Ulta. I had an appointment with someone else to fix my haircut. She strongly urged me not to keep the appointment. Their policy is to have you come back in and have the salon manager fix your hair if you're not happy. I asked what kind of experience she had and where she worked prior to Ulta. Mastercuts or Supercuts type of place. I asked if I could be refunded the amount of money it would cost me to get my haircut fixed elsewhere. The answer was that is not their policy. I will not return there. In fact they called this weekend because Felicia had booked an appointment for me when I went to the bathroom for a month out and didn't bother to give me an appointment card or to even wait for me to return to let me knew the time and date. I get my hair done every 8-10 weeks not every 4 weeks. I am thoroughly disappointed by the whole experience. read more

I am new to Eureka, a non-working hairstylst. I have not really had my hair done by someone other than coworkers. That being said I was in desperate need to color. I have friends who work at Ulta in College Station, Texas so I knew that I could at the very least let the stylist know my color formula. Well I was acknowledged by a professionally dressed stylist by the name of Erin, who was busy and the only stylist. She asked if I wanted anything while I waited. When she seated me at her station I felt instantly comfortable! Erin and I shared our past salon experiences, chatted about family you name it. She offered other services appropriately. It was awesome and that was not including how AWESOME my hair turned out! I love it! Outside of my friends and previous coworkers this has to have been the best experience. I love our Ulta. They carry all of my favorite brands (Lorac foundations are AMAZING), Urban Decay, Smashbox and Tarte. They also have incredible sales if you just want to grab a few purse items for a trip. The sales associates are always welcoming and friendly towards me, even if I walk in looking like an underslept zombie (and walk out looking like a Kardashian after going to town on the testers). Eureka was long overdue for a retailer that sells high end cosmetics, and here's hoping they stay with us for many years to come! read more

I love make up, and I love this stores products, but the people that work there are some of the rudest, un-happiest people in the county. Every time I go in there I'm hoping for a different experience. Well, just walked out again with the same impression. I've literally spent $1000's of dollars a year in here (I hit platinum membership withing a month of the new year starting). But yet I'm grilled the entire time and being watched like I'm a thief about to rip somebody off. The girl at the checkout wasn't even pleasant. She answered the phone during my checkout, not that big of a deal, but didn't look at me once, was talking to an associate and the person on the phone for most of the time, and then handed me my change while still looking down. I would have given it one star except I really love makeup and unfortunately will be back. I hope they check their employees though and tell them they need some attitude adjustments. read more

I'm sorry to say that while this business has a fantastic variety of product the customer service left a great deal to be desired. I went into the store with the hopes of finding a product to remove some of the golden tones from my hair, which I had recently dyed blonde. While the cashier was polite, professional and polished, the "salon expert" that she referred my question to was not. The salon area is in the very back of the store and although two employees were seated across the table from one another, they were so absorbed in their conversation and doing one another's nails that I assumed one of them had to be a customer until told otherwise. When I did get to speak to one of these "experts" it was a woman who appeared to be in her mid thirties and when I asked my question she immediately started pulling and prodding at my hair and rattling off information I could readily find on any beauty blog with a rather pushy demeanor and without really answering my question, while her colleague sat giggling about the entire thing. This "expert" proceeded to tell me I couldn't fix it on my own, but she could for a fee of 120$ (please keep in mind this would be 120$ simply to adjust a shade slightly) and that there was no way I I could do it at home because (and I quote from her saying several times) my hair "...just can't take no more", with an air of utter superiority. She then grabbed two identical bottles of conditioner and told me to "rotate between the two" and then once I had to come talk to her again. It could not have been more obvious she was just trying to get as much money out of me as possible. As we were having this conversation she was all the while clicking some sort of shiny lip stud and playing with her very long hair that appeared to have been colored an oddly varied shade of purple. I believe people have a right to express themselves as they see fit, however, in a work setting on someone roughly fifteen years my senior, her loud features and attitude hardly made me feel inclined to trust her opinion. Still, I accepted her advice with my thanks and did not correct her terrible grammar or protest her unprofessional attitude. I left the salon area to look at some conditioning products after that and unfortunately encountered this "expert" again helping another customer (I suppose she must have finally finished doing her own nails) and while I said nothing and just continued looking quietly she gave the other customer the advice relevant to her and then proceeded to loudly reiterate the advice she had just given to me once again to the other customer for no discernible reason other than to continue her rude behavior. I very nearly left without buying anything, but did end up purchasing the items I felt would do the job I required at home because I did appreciate their selection and once more the cashier was extraordinarily polite. I might go in again but I will make certain to never repeat the mistake of asking for advice. What a nightmare. read more

Helped me pick out a fuller coverage more natural ingredient foundation (quite the conundrum, I know) and I even left with some extra goodies because of a promotional gift with purchase. I used to spend a lot of money here but not anymore. Don't come here if you're dressed casually. I always get treated like a thief. I wanted to buy a contour kit and I literally had to chase down an employee. He was the Dominican man that wears a lot of highlighter. He wasn't helpful. You could literally sell me anything and I'll buy it but he just handed me a contour kit and ran off. The employees act like high school students and will only help you if you look like you have money. Even though I had about 200 dollars worth of product in my hands. Cashiers talk to other staff instead of talking to the customer. I literally had to wait for my cashier to stop hugging another employee just to get my receipt. Never again. Grow up Ulta and get better employees. read more

Ok, to be fair I got my cut about a year ago but I forgot to leave a review. The lady who cut my hair had very short blonde hair and the only other thing I remember about her was she had a bunch of kids. Anyway, I have very long hair and she was totally rude to me (obviously jealous) told me I need to cut half my hair off. She kept making little Snyde remarks through my whole haircut which totally ruined the whole experience. I could totally tell she was jealous because she even mentioned her own short, damaged, ratty ass hair like 3 times. Which is fine, but don't try to tell me I need to cut half my ass length hair off because you're jealous. So annoying I will never go back and pay such a high price . read more

This was one of the worst stores I've been to for customer service. The employees were not attentive and after they answered one question, would quickly walk away and stand with their back to me. I had to repeatedly ask for help. I did purchase some products and after I got home, I realized that the shade of powder seemed too light. I lost the receipt and when I went back to the store (another unfriendly employee confirmed that I was sold the wrong powder). When I went to exchange, store "policy" wouldn't allow it. I've been into the store on several occasions such as Opening Day. Grand Opening, and just about once a week and I've never had a bad experience with a sales rep's, cashier, or stylist. Further more something is to be said about someone that is looking for advice from a hair stylist that is expecting results from a "BOX". Yes we all at one time had to start learning how to take of our hair but maybe one must seek professional advice instead of believing happiness comes in a "BOX". FYI did you get the results you were looking for? Yes I do agree 120$ for golden tone is crazy however maybe your hair was so far gone that you needed more than just dye in a 'BOX" (possible stripping and deep conditioning). read more

Unfortunately I cannot comment on their services, but I can comment on their customer service. I showed up to my hair appointment at Ulta 15 minutes early. Checked in with the girl, and she told me the stylist wasn't here yet because I was early. No problem. I'll shop. So I shopped until it was my appointment time and went toward the salon where I sat waiting for 15 more minutes. Finally someone decided to check my appointment only to tell me that the girl isn't scheduled to come in today. I asked if someone else could do it, since I don't care what stylist I have, and they told me there was only one stylist today and she was booked. Are you kidding me?!! Why would you let me wait around for 30 minutes before telling me that there was no one available to do my hair? I won't be going back. Total waste of time. read more

I follow her to every salon she goes too and she is the only hair stylist that my daughter, best friend and I will let touch our hair. Best kept secret on the Northcoast and her own hair is awesome! The salon is absolutely horrible. They lost their only good employee and then went and tried to steal her customers by calling each of them. I was one of them... the manager did not know how to do hair and I had seen her mess up so many people's hair while I was still going there to see my stylist. My sister in law had her hair done there as well and it turned out horrible. The sales associates are friendly though. And it is a decent place to purchase products. I think its strange to leave a negative comment about Felicia in Aug. when she hasn't worked with the company since June 2016. and the thought of her letting you walk out of the store with "brassy" hair is laughable. If the person who wrote the comment had read other comments she would know that Felcia is known as an outstanding colorist. This place is...okay. It's my only option living in Eureka (no Sally's around here???) so I'll give it two stars just for being here. The selection is pretty good, like I've seen at most Ultas. The problem is the staff. I never caught anyone's names, but I do want to point out that the only kind people working there.. are the tall and thin woman with long brown hair who seems to be the manager, and the guy with short hair. Everyone else has been horrible! They've made rude comments about me both to my face and right behind my back, I've seen them do the same to other customers, and they are more unhelpful than anything! I asked about a product that I bought there a month ago that they no longer had in stock and they literally denied ever even having had it just because they didn't want to admit they don't know anything about their products... Another time I went in to have them demo an eyebrow mascara on me to match me to the right shade and it was truly horrible. It was the ugliest eyebrow job I've ever seen! Maybe she was just annoyed I had "bothered" her to help me, but she did the most pitiful job on my eyebrows! Truly embarrassing. The two employees I mentioned before are great, but it's just not worth it to come in and accidentally have to be abused by any of the other staff. Better just buy it online. read more

I went in today to replace the mothers day gift I purchased for my mom that was lost in a house fire. I left so angry and frustrated I will never shop there again. Thankfully I have a sephora where I live and am treated so much better there. The girl at the register greeted me with "what is your phone #?" Not hello, how are you, did you find everything and when I asked why she needed my number her response was "it makes it easier". She couldn't figure out how to apply my coupon so instead repeated my total twice in hopes I didn't notice and when I called her on it her response was seriously lacking (maybe ask for help?) Since all she could do was shrug her shoulders and say she didn't know. The items I purchased and total amount spent should have resulted in a free gift with purchase (the guy at the next register very enthusiastically shared this with his customer) but instead the girl just stood blinking at me waiting for me to pay.
