Worst haircut of my life. MY HAIR IS BUTCHERED!! I had hair below my butt, long gorgeous healthy hair and I asked to trim It and still be able to put it up in a bun and keep it long with layers and I didn't even get anything close! Amazing! I had such a great experience here and loved the very calming, beautiful and professional atmosphere of the shop. super unprofessional time management. I made an appointment through the online portal on a Tuesday for a Friday lunch time haircut. I get a call two hours before my haircut that the stylist scheduled a perm and that the perm will take too long to get to me. she offered to reschedule for 9 am on a Saturday! i worked all week too love, I'm not giving up my morning due to your poor planning. I did not deserve the treatment I got from Patricia today. I had received up to six email reminders about my hair appointment at 2 today. I was so looking forward to the appointment. I'm a senior and I don't get out much. I live in Hydesville so it takes a minute to get to Eureka. At 12:30ish I got a text saying she had a cancellation and could I come in early. I was already on my way in to do some shopping. Then I got a text saying she's behind schedule and changed the appointment to 2:30. Then she said she had a new client and it was going to take longer. 3:00. I made this appointment in late December. When I walked in at 3:00 she had a client with wet hair and Patricia was trimming it. Patricia didn't say a thing about apologizing or even acknowledging me. She looked at me like I had inconvenienced her. Patricia if you don't want to take a client don't return the phone call to set up an appointment. Patricia gave me a negative vibe the first time she cut my hair. She did a lovely cut the first time. The second time not so much. Shoulda paid attention. read more

Couple of disclaimers: I am mostly of the "it's just hair" philosophy, and I can usually shrug bad cuts off; and I really don't like leaving bad reviews for skilled workers, because in general I like to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that any miscommunication was on my end--I usually know substantially less what I'm talking about when it comes to their craft than they do. With that said, however... It's been a couple of weeks since I had my hair cut at Old Town Hair Works, and I can't think of any reason for the awful haircut other than "she wasn't listening to me and was running late, so tried to rush me through." First: my appointment started 30 minutes late; the stylist said it would only be about 15 minutes, so I decided to wait. That's fine, and that's on me. I could have stepped out and rescheduled (which also would have saved my hair, but hindsight is 20/20). When I got into the chair, I showed her several pictures of what I wanted, explained what I liked and didn't like about each example, and then showed her several examples of what I was working towards--namely, a long growout on top, with partially-shaved sides, so that I could eventually (when my hair got long enough! I've been growing the top out for about two years!) style the hair on top into a long ponytail or braid, or clip it back, etc. Again, I can't stress enough that I can't think of any way I could've been clearer: I explicitly told her that I wanted to keep the top long, that I'd been growing it out for a long time, but I wanted the sides clipped into, basically, a pixie cut...but leave the top long so I can grow it into this (shows picture). Obviously, that didn't happen for me. Without my glasses, I can't see more than blurs of color, so I didn't know what she was doing until it was wayyy too late to save my two years of hair growth. She somehow decided that my insistence on "keeping the top long" meant actually slicing the whole top down to a point--so, she preserved the previous length of my hair, but only in a single strand. Because it was--I repeat--a two-year growout, that means that she left me with a ridiculously assymetrical cut, from a single shoulder-length point to a close crop at the back of my head. Even if I'd told her I wanted a pixie with assymetrical bangs, it would have been a truly bizarre cut. I paid $50+tip for the privilege of looking like a middle-aged woman trying to look hip and edgy after her divorce... Thank goodness I don't have the blond highlights to match. I'm going to probably invite criticism and mockery of myself here, but this is the only haircut I've actually cried over (and I could only afford Supercuts-type places for years!). I got home and was completely inconsolable--I'd been growing the top out so that I could have a very specific style (which, yes, I *actually showed the stylist a picture of* before we started) for my wedding. I know that's kind of a silly thing to be upset over, but it really got to me. Anyhow, that dream hairstyle is gone now (I was about halfway to the length I needed, and since the fix cut I got elsewhere involved making the point less steep there's no way I'll grow it back out in time). At my trial she took her time and really worked out each step of what she was going to do- day of was a breeze! For a very reasonable fee she came to our home to do hair for myself, 3 bridesmaids, and 2 mothers. It was so relaxing to be in my own home. The bonus? She is fun to hang out with. Living in Humboldt county and having curly hair is very complicated due to the lack of qualified hair stylists in the curly hair area (I think is because not many women in Humboldt have curly hair). After many months of thinking about it, I finally decided to cut my curls. I searched online for qualified people and came a cross this hair salon. I set up a consultation and met with the owner (Libby). During the appointment Libby asked about my fears and expectation regarding my hair. She told me about the Devacut and the Devacurl products. She seemed pretty confident and knowledgeable about curls. She filled me with this confidence and I decided to go back to get the hair cut. I went back three days later, and got the Devacut. I am so pleased with my haircut!!!!! More than pleased I feel that I hit the jackpot with Libby!!!! After so many bad experiences with hair stylists in this county, i am so happy that I've finally found a person that really knows how to work with curly hair. When i left the salon I felt like a new woman!! my hair looks spectacular. My curls are shiny and hydrated.
