I had some time to kill today, and I wanted to get a trim, so I pulled up nearby hair salons. Megara's was nearby so I called to see if they would have the time to cut my hair. Tina was available, so I walked on over. Sometimes I get frustrated with hair salons. They start chopping away, then dismiss me. I guess since I'm a guy most hair salons think that I don't care what my hair looks like, just so long as some of it gets cut. I had the worst experience with this shop. I told the owner (who did my hair) NOT to cut my hair exactly the way she did it. I showed her a picture of how I wanted it, but she cut it how she thinks I would like. It's 3:56am and I'm still up worried about my UGLY HAIRCUT. I lost my previous highlights, when I told her I wanted to keep them. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! It's also overpriced. She didn't tell me before hand how much it would cost either. I have never been so happy with a haircut. Tina is not only not afraid to take risks, she enjoys it! I went in wanting an undercut on my already short pixie but wasn't sure if that was too out there for this salon. Tina took one look at my picture said, "Oh yeah I can do that!" and busted out the sheers. She started longer and took more off until we were both happy with how it looked. Well, she was happy. I was ecstatic! Both ladies in this salon are friendly, funny, and unpretentious. They made me feel right at home and I'm sure they'll do the same for you. An excellent hair experience! Having moved to the area recently, I have tried a couple of salons and been very unhappy with the results. I scanned the reviews of all the hair salons in the area and settled on Megaras based entirely on YELP feedback and I was not sorry. The shop is small, intimate and well cared for. I had booked appointments for myself and my daughter and they were happy to accommodate us both so we could make it a girl's date. Tina was my stylist and was great at deciphering my ideas and making them a reality. She's spunky and full of inspiration. Other reviewers stated she was not afraid to take risks and this is a truth, thank goodness! It made my day and I am incredibly happy with my haircut. My daughter had Stephanie who was careful and sensitive to her desire to "keep it long". She was great at setting her nervousness at ease. Both of us got the cut we wanted, both stylists took time to ask questions along the way and the conversation was great too. It was also clear that continuing training happens in this salon, something I always look for as trends and tools change, I like it when stylists stay ahead of the curve. I have been going to Tina at Megara's for years now for highlights and hair cuts and I have never been so happy with a stylist! She takes her time with my highlights so she doesn't ever overlap bleach! For those of you who have long hair and like to go blonde, you understand how important this is!! I wanted to find a new place to get my haircut that wasn't afraid to be a little risky with hairstyles, but be honest enough with you if that particular haircut wasn't going to look right. This place did an amazing job cutting my hair, it's like she was able to get into my brain and take the pic I had stuck in there, that I wasn't able to articulate. I posted a picture of the text that the owner of this hair salon sent me and for the record I have a disease that makes me terminally ill and that is why she used the word miserable. Tina the owner, permed my hair over bleached bangs which fried them then she got upset when I went elsewhere and accuse me of in her words cheating on her I I'm not in a relationship with her thankfully, so cheating is a word that doesn't fit the situation. How about I went in search of somebody who could do my hair without ruining it. Wife just got her hair cut here for the first time. The front looks great, the back looks like a drunken six year old got ahold of mommy's big girl scissors and went to town! $25 down the drain. She doesn't want to ask them to fix it for fear of it getting worse. We're going to have to pay someone else to fix it. read more

So I went here after going 3 months without a hair cut and i wanted to take about 4 inches off and I was really nervous but I walked in and tina made me feel right at home and she was so up beat and made me confident about my decision. The salon itself is tiny but its charming and they are very reasonably priced. my hair cut was only 20 dollars!! If I could give this place zero stars i would. I went in for a haircut and nails done. Tina was very negative and I was unhappy with the experience! Got my nails done after and Jess artwork was horrible. I got an infection under my acrylic nail. Cost me more to cover my medical copay than the entire service! Today I went in to Megara's for the first time, getting my first pedicure here in the Humboldt area. My appointment was at 3 pm with Jess Albertson, and when I arrived at 3 I was immediately helped! Jess was so nice and easy to talk to, had great color's and did a really nice job on my toes. I opted for the mini-pedi, which includes a foot soak, cutting and filing the nails, pushing back cuticles, and painting the nails. This was the cheaper option (at a remarkable $20!) Something about Jess that's nice-- she relates to her clients! She understands that people can't always drop $50 on nails, so her prices are very reasonable. She also offers kids' prices, which I think is neat but did not inquire about prices because I don't have a kid. Anyway, over all I had a wonderful experience and will go back again for the full pedicure!! :) read more

This place is lovely - the staff even lovelier. After trying to book an appointment for a hair cut at my usual spot (kalos in Arcata) I was disappointed to hear that it would be a month before I could score an appointment slot. That's when I searched yelp and found this place! I was able to get an appointment for the next day. My appointment was at 10am and I was greeted with smiles and fresh coffee. I am trying to grow my hair out and decided to cut it short- I was a little nervous but I was given one of the best hair cuts of my life! It was extremely affordable as well, my usual cut costs about $45-$50 and I was surprised to hear that this cut and blow dry-style was only $25! I was in and out in less than an hour with a beautiful new hair cut that I continue to receive complements on even a month later! You know it's a good cut when it can dry naturally and still look good! I highly recommend this place. read more
