I want to thank the girls that helped me and my daughter tonight after she got a botched haircut at Supercuts and was crying and traumatized. We came in to get some rosemary oil to help promote hair growth. My daughter is 9 and was very upset that her hair was cut so short. At one point, I also started crying because I felt bad for her. I didn't catch names, but every single person that helped us was beyond kind and helpful. They gave us tissues for tears, great suggestions for hair products, and consoled my daughter and reminded her that she is beautiful, which restored her confidence. They have hairdressers in the store and invited my daughter to come in for her next cut. I truly appreciate the crew that helped us. read more

One stylist refused to see me after I rescheduled an appointment. I had a color service done with another stylist and I wasn't happy with it so they Banned me from ever coming back and were very rude about it. Their prices for products are consistently higher than competitors and they make returns virtually impossible even with a receipt. They force you to sign up for an account. read more

Their suggestion: Try the herb shop. Yeah. Like Baccarat Rouge is gonna be at Moonrise Herbs on the shelf above the Nag Champa, next to a $9 bottle of patchouli, are you new in town or what? My hair was supposed to be a trim ha 9 months today and it's no where near volume and length . The lady was so fun but was sick and a bad for her last February 26th 2024 and she said Are you going to let me do my thing? I had thought she was going to place oil or conditioner on my hair as I had told her I have had chemo and a hysterectomy please don't cut much it took since 2010 to 2024 to get like this when we first met. She has done great in past but that day she was sick and I didn't watch her was in cell getting my hotel room booked for my granddaughter. Well 9 months no hair trimmed and looks like shit . The girl doing my hair now said it was over layered Id say she thinks it too and my hair was a great texture and beautiful and now its thin. I knew the woman was sick she said her eyes all red and glossy so I believeed her and have had chemo so I get sick but one bad day for her and I look like awful. My whole family brought up and I paid and tipped I mean you can't put it back on. I'm so upset and I tried to like it but depressed and will not ever let any one ever cut my hair unless I'm watching. Typical humboldt effect on an otherwise great chain. Come in and you will see from afar what looks like a place you want to shop. Upon closer inspection you will find a place in total disarray. Products missing shelves not dusted, products not faced and restocked, shelf labels in no way relating to the products on the shelves. For a place with five or so employees on at all times this place is filthy and in need of a change of mgmt. Come in at opening and the shelves will still be in disarray from the day before. This is a constant issue here in eureka, and the greater humboldt area as a whole. From the shops to the restaurants the filthy junky essence abounds. And ulta is no exception. read more

Girl on register Ericka was so insistent on getting my phone number for rewards, i kindly said i dont want to give my number she kept insisting i told her i dont have a phone to get her off my back, she looked at me and with an attitude said "you dont have a phone?" I said no she asked me to enter a phone number of someone i knew, i just told her no. I was getting to a point of just leaving the things and go home. This one star is due to a company policy I was just told about while checking out and I find it grotesque. I have shopped here a few times and they always try to get you to sign up for their rewards program, I always politely decline. Today as I was checking out with my bottle of hair dye I was told I could not check out without giving either a phone number or email address. I politely said I do not give my information out to stores. They said I could not return any of my items if I didn't give them my phone number or email. I said that was fine, I don't like to share my information with large corporations and I understood I couldn't return the hair dye after I purchased it. THIS is the part that was infuriating: I was then told that if I didn't give them this information, that the employees hours would be cut. ULTA: This is a completely abusive policy to force your patrons to give you their personal information or else punish your employees by reducing their hours. They then continued to beg me to give them ANY phone number of a family member or friend who may shop there. Can you say invasion of privacy!? Not that it ever means anything to these large stores, but I will not be shopping there again while this is their policy. Employees should not be punished just because customers don't want to sign up for your rewards program. Shame on you ULTA. read more

There is such a thing as having a balance of customer service. The ladies working here need to realize that they ask everyone if you need help finding something, which is fine except the same store associate may ask you if you need help more than once in less than an hour and on top of that expect to have every single store associate approach you and ask if you need help finding something it was very annoying to be asked by 6 people in less than 30 minutes if I need help. If I need help I'll ask for it, I don't think they realize that they shouldn't ask the same person the same question nearly ten times it's super repetitive and shows that they don't communicate with each other about which shoppers have already been asked the same thing over and over and over. My favorite approach is when they don't ask you if you need help and when they begin with a commentary or personal opinion about products you're looking at which is way less annoying. Anyway this ulta is Not nearly as stocked up as most ulta stores but enough to do the job may need to order things online. read more

Rude a** associate at the front didn't want to ring me up and pretended I wasn't there. She waited for her coworker to ring me up instead and when I left, she helped the customer behind me instead. Came back a second time and she did the SAME EXACT THING. Can't exactly say it was a race thing, can't say it wasn't either. She just didn't acknowledge me AT ALL. I didn't even get her name cause I was so upset. She had dark hair, a skeleton tattoo on her left shoulder, and she was very pale. Instead of standing around talking to your coworker, learn how to do your job right. It's not that hard to ring up a damn customer. It definitely shouldn't matter how your customer even looks. They were not very helpful in that department even though I told them he exact name and shade I needed. So I got me some lip glosses instead. I didn't pay attention to how much they cost and ended up paying over $100! The second time I went I bought some nail polish. Had the hardest time finding my shade of purple (and I looked in several sections). This store is like a maze and super bright, it can take a while for a newbie like me to find what I am looking for, so the clerks could stand to be a bit more helpful. Either way, the sales clerk was friendly enough, although I had to initiate first because she seemed a bit apprehensive at first. read more

I went in to get my hair done and HATE it. I didn't have layers in my hair and the girl put one layer in and it doesn't even blend right and cut more than half the top of my hair into one layer. So I literally have 2 lengths in my hair. She did this after I said I was growing out my hair and wanted only 2 cm off at the bottom at most, on top of all this cut bangs that aren't even. Being as this is one of our only local shops that offer the brands I like, I still go in to try and find what I need. Ugh I learned my lesson. I can never find someone to help me, nobody offers to help me (although I hear and see them offer help to others), they also have never greeted me (when I'm paying I'll see them greet everyone who enters), and this last time was so disappointing. I accidentally got the wrong MAC concealer bc they have similar packaging but were in the wrong section. I told them this when I returned it and the cashier just kind of mumbled. While I'm waiting I look over and see all the employees are just standing around on their phones. If I could have found them before I would've asked for help bc they're supposed to be the semi experts, right? Anyway, online shopping it is from now on or Sephora when I'm in Santa Rosa. I'm just excited to have a makeup store in Eureka! Woohoo! My only complaint about this store is, there's generally no one walking around to help customers. If I have a question, I have to hunt someone down. No big deal, I figured I could do some shopping around the mall, get some food, get my haircut, then head back to Arcata. I show up at 4 and the only hairstylist is still working on a prior appointment. At 4:20 I asked how much longer it would be, and was told less than ten minutes. I've been here a handful of times since moving to Eureka, and I have gathered enough intel to make a solid determination: I wouldn't visit this Ulta location again. The first visit I needed nail files. I asked the service person up front to direct me, to which she responded vaguely and gestures toward the back (she obviously was newish and didn't know where they were)...a supervisor overheard and told her she could walk me back to find them. It felt uncomfortable to hear the tone from the sup directed toward her, I felt bad for the newer girl. Why didn't the sup offer to model for the new girl an acceptable customer service response? My most recent visit, yesterday, I came looking for a specific type of hair product. For years I have used Tressa Watercolors color-in shampoo, and I wanted to buy some soon rather than order it online. After a quick search online, I knew Ulta didn't carry it, but I figured an in-store associate or manager might be more knowledgeable than I was regarding similar product, so I decided to try my luck in-store. The first associate I came across was wearing a white jacket, carrying a clip-board, welcomed me in and asked what I was looking for. I explained my dilemma, and she said she didn't know, but that she would ask the salon manager. Kudos to her!! She began walking back to the back of the store, and I observed that's where the salon and salon products were, so I followed. She went around a corner to the back, I waited near the salon. She emerged a minute or so later to say, "She hasn't heard of it before, she doesn't know." Eek. Well. I guess, thanks for trying? I was bummed the manager didn't come talk to me personally. I decided to peruse the vast array of products myself, while I did a quick online search on Ulta's website for "color shampoo," and whaddya know!! First hit!! A product called Joico! I wandered around for another 10 minutes before I found it. At this point I was peeved and irritated that I had to waste my time wandering when someone (like the manager) could have helped instead of letting me wander up and down the aisles aimlessly. I couldn't find the color I wanted (the only had blonde, purple, red, and something else, no brown) so I settled on an Umberto Demi instead. When I got to the front, there were at least 10 people in line with one girl checking people out. There was also this horrid ring rig ringing and "woooohooo"ing coming from her during her transactions. Another associate, a male with a nametag that said he was the prestige manager, came over to help ring. It was my turn and he called me over. I recognized him from my first visit. I was excited because last time we had had such a nice conversation. This time, he rattled off questions like a machine, "What's you're phone number...address...Date of birth..." to put me in their system since apparently I wasn't? (He didn't really tell me or ask if he could or why we were putting me in at all), and didn't make eye contact even once!! I was shocked. Then he asked if I wanted to make a donation to breast cancer research and I said sure, a buck, and that's when the ringing happened again. Ohhh. The ringing was for celebrating people who donated? Yikes. Maybe we could find a better way than loudly ringing and cheering every time someone donated? I laughed and was happy to be on my way. Yowza. Overall, my experiences at this store have not had positive notes. I applaud the extensive selection and variety of products, at the same time, you should have knowledgeable staff available to help you find what you're looking for, or at least help you find a similar product!...especially if I could find the product myself at your online store, but had to wander by myself without help in-store. read more

I shop at this Ulta frequently and usually leave feeling irritated. The selection of items is great and most items are usually in stock. However, since they opened the employees always seem to have issues when I try to redeem my coupons and points. I am constantly told I cannot use coupons on items that I know I can. I am aware of the brands that do not allow coupon use. The employees refuse to even scan them to see if they work. I also encounter a lot of items that are in the wrong homes and not priced correctly. When I go to pay and find that the price is different than what I saw on the sign, the cashiers basically tell me there is nothing they can do. I come from a larger city and have never experienced these problems at others Ulta's. Overall it is a nice store and a welcome addition to Eureka. However, I think the associates could use a bit more training. Edit* It is now 2017 and I feel the service and overall experience with this Ulta has improved. I've been disappointed all three times I've been to this store. The employees stand around and giggle with one another and seem to do very little else. They staff are rude and have little product knowledge. If they ARE knowledgeable, they aren't imparting it to their customers. Today I asked for a staff person to recommend what she considered the best liquid eye liner. She led me to the most expensive felt tip style liner; completely different product.
