After visiting the Ulta to get hundreds of dollars of celebrity inspired cosmetics and skin care products, I left the store loaded down with absolutely no idea of what I bought. The Vitamin-C, Peptide infused serum with anti-oxidants and seven essential nutrients for my skin was something I didn't realize I needed, but apparently it is scarcely believable that I have gone through my entire life without ever using this amazing combination of organic and synthetic chemically-rich cream that is 100% natural and made of nothing but vegetable by-products that is not made as a result of child labor practices in some third-world country. The hundreds of employees working there provide a wealth of knowledge about all of the things certain to bankrupt you but make you feel better about yourself in the process. Ulta - it should be noted - is a dog friendly store and see at least three different French Poodles (although I mistakenly identified one that happened to be an actual person with blonde poofy hair) An embarrassed chihuahua did enter with its owner but he proved who was boss faster than you can say, "would you like to apply for the Ulta credit card and save 5% in your purchase today while paying only 36% interest compounded daily?" I did really like the vast selection. It is larger than any flea market in the city of Kyle Texas. The mirrors are beautiful of course, but it helps that I was the one looking into it. And while it may seem like I am slightly edging a bit on the pricing, let's face a certain truth; It cost a LOT of money to prepare your corpse for the wake after you drop dead from heart failure at how easy it was to spend a lifetime of Benjamin's on your trip to the Cosmetic Zoo! read more

Had to update my review to rave about Paris again. I've been seeing her for years and recently added extensions to the mix. GAME CHANGER. And she does an incredible job with the placement and install. We have slowly taken my hair to the blonde and because we took our time it is so healthy and soft. I forced my husband with stick straight hair to get a baseball perm. I was influenced, no shame. Paris made him feel comfortable with going out of his comfort zone and trying something new. I am obsessed. He loves it too, 10/10 experience for him! If you can somehow manage to squeeze into her schedule book with Paris. She will leave your spirit and hair feeling refreshed. read more

I never buy makeup but recently decided I needed to go get new makeup (like needed everything) so I went to Ulta and am always pretty hesitant to buy makeup because it's not cheap and I feel like I always have trouble picking which colors/shades to use for each part of my face since I am in no way fluent in the makeup language. I walked in and looked around a bit, trying to find some products that i had seen in a video on tiktok which i liked her makeup in, and a makeup specialist saw me having difficulty choosing between shades so he helped me out and started putting different products on my face to match my shade and ended up picking like 5 things! I loved my experience here, i felt everyone was so helpful and so sweet, showing me how to use each product. Absolutely recommend coming here if you need new makeup. read more

I love Ulta for its prices and the huge selection, but I was disappointed with the customer service. Despite the number of employees on the floor, no one offered to help me for quite a while. I spent about 15-20 minutes searching for basic skincare products on my own before someone finally asked if I needed assistance. Unfortunately, she wasn't sure where to find the items I was looking for and had to ask another associate, who was helpful and knew where to go. When I got to the lip gloss section, I was disappointed to see that the Buxom lip glosses--one of the main things I came for--were about 95 percent out of stock. Luckily, they had one of the three shades I wanted, which was great since Buxom products are so amazing. Hopefully, they'll restock soon and it's not always like this. After I continued browsing, more employees started asking if I needed help, which I appreciated, but I wish I had received that same level of attention when I first arrived. It seemed like many employees were more engaged in chatting with each other than assisting customers. In fact, I found more help from other shoppers than from the staff at first. However, once I got an associate's attention, they were helpful. This was my first visit to this Ulta location, but that shouldn't have affected the level of service I received--especially with so many employees present. That said, I still love Ulta. They offer so many great products at great prices, and I'll definitely be coming back. I just wish the staff were as attentive, knowledgeable, and proactive as those at Sephora. Customer service and having products that are in stock mean a lot to me. If there is an Ulta location in Austin that meets these requirements, I'd be happy to go to a location that's a little farther from my house. read more

Coming back from a wonderful date in downtown Austin I was informed she needed to return some makeup and get some other items. Ok, I thought to myself and then she pulled up directions to Ulta beauty. I've never been there and always filled in the name to Ultra but never knew what it was. Pulling up to a huge shopping center in an extremely safe part of town we got out of the car and entered the building. Inside from wall to wall are strategically placed products designed to entice both shopping list items and impulse buying. My former girlfriend asked where some sale item was and the purple and pink haired associate with no fewer than 5 facial accessories was extremely helpful leading us to what we needed to get. I'm not judging here; I'm just quoting Mitch Hedberg to offer some funny context. We got the exact thing we came for thus I believed my journey was coming to an end however my lady was just getting started. She was wound up, seeming to gain momentum from display stand to shelves to floor unit and so forth. I thought to myself if only she showed such energy when I asked her to make me a ham sandwich, I'd be the luckiest man alive; but I digress. She sorted through many items, comparing lipstick shades and asking me what I thought as if she would really listen to what I had to say. Foundations were scrutinized, so many perfumes were shoved in my nose I now think life smells like roses (there's a deep thought for ya), eye liner was carefully inspected. I feel embarrassed but I though "eye liner is eye liner" but to my ignorance there are shades and brush types. I told you guys aren't good at this stuff. As she zipped around, I actually found some bubble bath since I'm a huge fan of long baths. They have a lot of options to choose from but I had to pick a fragrance that was neutral as I don't want to smell like dandelions! Yes I'm a man and I get dirty but by God bubble baths are the best thing other than..... anyways moving on. She finally wore down and while we came in for 2 items she left with 11. I'm not complaining as if she wants to look like a million dollars, thx in part to Ulta then I'll pamper her as she looks darn good. Wrapping this up, Ulta has a LOT of options and reasonably priced and upwards for many different products. What I found out is this is a toy store for women's vanity and I have zero issue with that. Although from a gentlemen's perspective I should have stayed in the car and played on my phone or something. That said the people in here were free spirited yet friendly and helpful. I did my hair with her last year and had to come back because no one makes me feel more like me than she does. Once again, she absolutely nailed it. I went into this location to shop for Instacart. I don't think I have ever had a less than pleasant experience at any Ulta until yesterday. I was shopping for two orders and I go to check out. I don't know the employees name. Short Hispanic lady with a grey sweater on was working the middle cash register. First she didn't great me, her tone was very unpleasant. She asked for my number and I said "oh I'm shopping for Instacart and here is the bar code, which I show to her on my phone.. She then says I need your basket. In a not very nice tone. Of course I say "No problem and hand it over. She then checks out both of my orders. Then she turns around and starts talking to another employee. She never said thank you have a nice day etc to let me know she was finished checking me out. The only way I knew she was done checking me out is I looked inside both of the two bags and saw she had placed the receipts inside. I picked up my items and walked out. She never turned around or acknowledged me in anyway? Everyone else was very pleasant and helpful. I am not sure if it's because I was shopping for Instacart and not myself ? I shop at Ulta personally all the time. But it should not matter why I am shopping, you're demeanor should still be pleasant and she just was not. The sales folks will keep me from coming in here ever again. I was harassed to give my phone number to simply buy one nail polish. I said no and that was met with absolute insistence on either giving a number or not buying the item. So I ordered from Amazon right in front of her. Another instance was when I was looking for a specific item. I made the mistake of asking for a location and ended up in a 20 minute conversation with a sales person telling me that the product I was buying actually doesn't work. It works miracles for me so nothing she was saying was my experience. She didn't even suggest a different product. I felt like I was held hostage for 19 minutes. Anyway, I put everything back, left and once again ordered online. This place is 100% not worth visiting in person. There are several more stories like this to tell. I'm done. read more

This is a shoutout to Nan, the hair stylist who worked with me while I was traveling in Austin. I wanted to have my hair look less frizzy and more sleek/shiny. Nan recommended the Bond curl treatment (which I had never hear of, and which took longer than I had planned to spend at the salon), and I decided to give it a shot. I am glad I did! It was not what I expected, as the treatment leaves your hair feeling a bit crunchy and unusual until you can shampoo it 48 hours later. I was uncertain for two days, but waited as Nan suggested. After I washed my hair and let it air dry......WOW. This is the best my natural curls have ever looked. They're soft, defined all over, shiny, and NO FRIZZ!!!!! I don't know how she worked her magic, but I am so glad I did this. Nan, thank you so much for introducing me to this treatment! Absolutely wonderful experience - friendly staff and great result. I usually come here and have a great experience with my shopping needs, but was disappointed in my first salon experience at Ulta. The stylist was lovely, but I felt she didn't fully listen to my requests of what I wanted and the end of the appointment felt extremely rushed as the next guest arrived early and we were essentially pressured into wrapping things up asap. As a result, I did not receive the face-framing bangs I requested and I don't love my haircut. I wanted to say something, but honestly felt like such an inconvenience by simply being there during my scheduled appointment while another guest waited for theirs to begin. This definitely could have been done in a more tactful way that was more respectful to the stylist, myself, and the next guest, especially when it was still well within my scheduled appointment time. To add insult to injury, another woman was wrapping up her appointment at the same time and had the exact hairstyle I had requested, bangs and all. I didn't know about this cool feature so I thought I'd share...I was looking for a great concealer online, but I hate color matching. I didn't even know where to start. I looked up the concealer I wanted and then I was able to input my foundation from a different brand and the website color matched the concealer for me! I gave it a shot and put in the order. The next day when I picked it up from the physical store, they had a long line at checkout, but I was able to skip it and go to the online order pickup counter. I've been coming here to get my hair and brows done since moving to Austin 2 years ago and I have finally had it with the unprofessionalism and uncaring attitude I've been shown by multiple employees at this location. My brow lady Jennifer has cancelled my appointment multiple times with barely any notice, but the one time I call asking if it's alright if I'm 6 minutes late for taking a wrong turn on the highway, I'm treated like I don't matter. The man on the phone gave me so much attitude and didn't care to hide his disdain for assisting guests. I understand that it's annoying when people are late, but the double standards are just laughable. Dylan Rey at the Ulta Salon in Sunset Valley is amazing! After using box dye, my daughter's hair was flat and brassy all around. I'd never tried the Ulta Salon before, but we were desperate to get in anywhere bc my daughter was so upset about the color, and Ulta had an opening. Dylan knew exactly what she wanted and went to task. At our usual salon, the colorist spends about 45 minutes putting the foils in, then someone else takes over the shampoo and toner. We usually end up with the top layer semi-bright (but not enough), and the underside mostly or all neglected. Hence why we resorted to box color. But Dylan took over every step from start to finish. He was like a master chef or professional artist who is invested in making sure that his art is perfect and not just "good enough" to get you out the door and on your way to make room for the next customer. And her hair turned out perfect, just really beautiful, and she's gotten so many compliments. I wish I had a pic of the before, but here's the after. I never do reviews but wanted to give a shout out to Rhiannon at the Salon! I moved to Austin in 2021 and as much as I loved my hair stylist in Dallas, I couldn't continue driving back and forth. It has been a STRUGGLE to find someone to trust with my hair since moving here. I have had the absolute worst luck finding someone I trust to do my hair. I even had layers so horrible from a top rated salon by one of their top stylist that my Dad pointed out the disconnection. I felt hopeless. I decided to take a shot with Rhiannon at Ulta and I am forever grateful that I did. Not only did she take her time to make sure I was getting what I was asking for but she is so sweet! Conversations are like hanging out with one of those friends that you never get to see but pick right up where you left off. The first time I went to her was last July for a cut and I went back Monday March 11th for another cut and full highlights. I have had so many compliments on the color and style! Walked in and four store employees were standing at the front of the store, in front of the door and NOT ONE greeted me or even looked at me, let alone asked if I needed any assistance. They continued to gossip with one another. Strike one. I was looking for a specific product. I wandered around the store and lingered at the register looking intently for the product - no one was in line except another employee checking out and talking about her Arianna Grande product store purchase. Cool. Still no help from the 2-3 employees dusting or arranging things or behind the counter. Finally one asked if I needed help after poking through the products 5 feet away from her for minutes on end. I said yes I'm looking for so-and-so where would it be? She took a look at the same place I was looking and said they didn't have it. That was a lie because 1) I was there to pick up an online order of the same product 2) I already checked online that it was still in stock. I told the employee that I was pretty sure it was in the store and she said nope if it isn't at the cash wrap then it isn't there. I went to another area of the store I suspected it might be and there it was. I came back to the front and showed the employee that it was in the store. She nastily told me 'oh GREAAAT! I'm SO GLAD you found it!!' Crystal - you can suck it. I'm never going to this location again. This place is consistently the worst Ulta. read more

I was running errands and stopped into Ulta to get a facial cleanser. On a whim I decided to see if anyone could take me for a haircut. Sam was available and I was so pleased with the cut she gave me! At first I just thought I needed a trim but after doing her consultation with me, decided on a little French Bob cut. She couldn't have been any sweeter. She thinned out my poofy hair with internal layers and texturizing and the result was a cut that I love! I was impressed with her knowledge of products and styling and she was such a pro. I already booked my next appointment. She is a true asset to your team and store! I got my hair done at the salon for the first time in like FIVE years and Shantee was awesome. Just the right amount of talkative for 10am haha And the photos I've attached show her skill. I did the balayage full and cut and style. Plus deep scalp treatment. For how thick long my hair is and the services I got I got out for less than $300 with an experienced stylist which is pretty amazing! First and last time at this spot. So bummed. I haven't shopped for makeup irl in probably a decade. I've been a loyal Sephora online shopper that used the same brands since my twenties. After deciding to try and switch to a cleaner less chemical laden lineup, I thought trying this Ulta would help me find good skin matches. I'm 8 months pregnant and was wholly low on sugar when I visited. Definitely spaced on their COVID policies, and helped myself to covered display samples. I can see why it was awkward and frustrating for the woman who approached to tell me I couldn't do that. But I was really hurt by the very noticeable edge of disgust in her voice as we chatted. Definitely got the sense she was energetically treating me as an idiot. I've worked in customer service/ hospitality a long time. I suppose I'm quick to have sympathy for most things... but also quick to anger when people treat me with disdain rather than give the benefit of the doubt. Took the wind out of the $130 bucks I dropped on switching over only a fraction of my makeup, and then waiting in a 20 minute line. Would have been quite a bit more business for this location down the pike, but I'll just take my chances with online Sephora going forward. read more
