Loads of products to choose from and the store is easy enough to navigate. Associates were friendly and efficient.

Literally the worst experience I've ever had at an ulta. I placed a mobile order and one of my items got cancelled, yet I still got charged. So I then said maybe I can just get a different shade of what got cancelled. They refused to let me do this, Yvette the manager was extremely dismissive and unhelpful. She said call the guest services number and that's all she could do. I proceeded to call the guest services number which the agent proceeded to tell me I in fact did not get charged for it even though that's not what's reflecting on my bank statement. She then said she can ship it to me but all I wanted was a refund and she refused. She then tried saying actually the concealer was a "free gift". Yeah ok. It honestly feels like they are just trying to steal my money and that's unfortunate being that ulta is a huge company. Unbelievable customer service from all ends. read more

I had an excellent experience at the salon at Ulta in Colonie Center. Bennett has been my stylist for about a year. He goes over and beyond explaining the products he is using, he makes great suggestions and is very knowledgeable in this industry. When I made a hair appointment with Syleena R. I was terrified... I had been bleaching my hair on my own for a year. I was a patchy mess with CURLY hair. I was so ashamed at what I had done, I tried to fix it on my own multiple times, and obviously failed. When Syleena examined my hair she did not flinch, she smiled and said we can fix this. She worked on my hair from 11AM to 5PM. She brought my curls back to life, and gave me a gorgeous color on my hair. I can't say enough good things about this young stylist, she is kind, friendly, and patient. Along with my trainwreck hair I have major anxiety issues, she and another staff member helped me with my dysmorphia and anxiety with understanding and compassion. This was my first time in an Ulta location. I usually shop at Sephora. I like the concept of the store; that I can buy premium brands like Nars, Too Faced, etc. as well as pick up drugstore brands, shampoo, and razor blades. This should be a great one-stop-shop. Where this location lost me as a customer was the shape the store was in, and the staff. It was 11am on a Sunday morning. The store had clearly not been tidied or re-stocked since Saturday at closing. None of the products were faced, meaning pulled to the front of shelves, labels facing forward, and in tidy rows. I saw rows and rows of hair products that were halfway back from the shelf edge, with none of the labels facing out. A lot of the premium brand cosmetics were not stocked. Less than half of the Anastasia brow pencils were available, for example. The store looked the way you'd expect it to after a Black Friday sale. This made it difficult to shop for what I needed, and the disorganization meant I had no interest in browsing for extra items I might not have planned to buy. I was never acknowledged by a staff member, but one did barge right in front of me to rip off sale tags from the shelf I was looking at as if I wasn't even there. Once I picked out my items (close to $100 in product), I found a line of 15 customers waiting to be helped by two cashiers who moved slowly and would leave their registers randomly to do other things in the store. After ten minutes in line, the line had not moved. I left my items on the shelf and walked 30 feet over to buy the same things at Sephora where the store is immaculate, well-stocked, and the line moves quickly. This location of Ulta desperately needs help from regional to get its act together. read more

Just left Ulta. I needed some changes. The Sales Lady Emily was amazing. I needed new lipstick, she found a fantastic lipstick for me. Then I told her my eyebrows were too dark, she showed me a gel that lightened them up. We followed with eye shadow. She was waiting on a lady right before me, and there was another lady waiting for her. Check out was very streamlined. The price was right. The store is set up to easily find your products. There are high chairs and mirrors everywhere. I will travel to Colonie Mall just for this Ulta. read more

I love this Ulta! I am a Sephora gal for life but I frequent this Ulta alot! The staff are friendly and give you space. They greet you when you walk in and are doing their own work unless you ask for help. This is how I like it! I don't want employees breathing down my throat or asking me 10000000 questions. The user Jackie is so right! I recommend looking at her review! I fortunately know what I am doing as well. I've worked in cosmetics/aesthetics for years ad I know what I prefer. I like to be left alone or with my sibling unless I am looking for something that can't be found! or if I am asking about inventory/stock! other than that..I personally feel like an asult woman should have her regimen down! sure, there are changes you make here and there but to walk into a place like a deer in headlights is odd to me. Ulta caters to hair, makeup,skin, nails,etc! surely at least one of these categories would be of interest. I just came back the other day from Ulta and got under eye patches (skincare). Ulta has really great finds! Do not be distracted by the trends of Jefree star/James charles instagram/tik tok junk! Great store, and great service. Fortuantely I have been doing professional makeup for years. So I am not walking in like a deer in headlights. I just want to walk in, pickup my stuff and go. I dont want ot ask any associate for anything unless it's for samples or if they have more of a product in the back. People need to realize that alot of these employes are hired based on SALES SKILLS!!!! department store makeup counters as well. Sure, some might have experience in makeup but that's not why theyre hired. They are hired TO SELL!!!!! not based on their makeup knowledge. At the end of the day only you know what's best for you. Which is why I do not ask these associates. Whether at MAC/Sephora/Clinique,etc. Do your own research,swatch products yourself, etc. If youre really clueless,you can go to a makeup studio. They can do your makeup for you and give you hints. Buy books at the Bookstore. Makeup requires skill and technique. It makes me roll my eyes when I see these women helplessly throw themselves at associates, than get mad when they dont like how they look. Ulta is amazing. But it's only good if youre going in knowing what you want. Same with Sephora. Stop using sales associates as your personal makeup artists. Find whats suitable for you,what you like,what youre comfortable with. I love how ULTA has a sales section near the end of 2 aisles. You catch some good deals. Leaving a bad review is something I never ever do but i feel this had to be shared...First I'll share a little about my experience. I got to my apt about ten minutes early and stood at the eyebrow bar to wait. During this time the employee (Tara) saw somebody walk in that she knew and stood there chatting until my apt time which is fine it wasn't her job to see me early when I was early so I patiently waited. When she was done she came back over to where I was standing and didn't say a word so I say hi my name is ___ I have a 330 apt, she looks at her watch and goes ok have a seat (just very cold) def didn't tell me her name or anything but I got it from her name tag. A couple of other off things happened but that's too much detail. So fast forward when she was looking at my eyebrows she asked if I had a scar? And I said no I don't believe so she goes oh okay you just have a "weird" brow line. Hm okay so she does her thing we chat a little then she shows me the mirror and this is where I messed up I didn't speak up when I saw the outcome. It is SO BAD. There is no way that anybody in that profession especially at Ulta would think these eyebrows are acceptable! They're so so thin and extremely far apart I could bawl. I thanked her and even left a tip because I don't believe in not tipping and also thought maybe she's having a bad day...but after constantly looking at my eyebrows and thinking about the entire interaction all night I decided to write my first ever bad review. read more

For people who want to book their hair salon service, cancel the appointment and book with other salon store, unless you want to wait for 45 mins and after that they tell you your appointment has to be canceled because they are over-booked. Here is what we experienced today. I called the Ulta in the morning and booked a man's hair cut in the afternoon. We showed up 5mins before the appointment, there was no one in the salon register area, only a man doing a hair service on the back row and a lady doing a makeup in the front row. The guy told us we have to wait for 10 mins. So we waited, after almost like 20 mins, the guy talked to us again said another 10 mins. So OK, we waited. After 45 mins in total I felt like this is never going to end. So I asked to speak to the store manager, the lady came and told us because of their system, they are over-booked today. And they could not do the hair cut now because no hairstylist is available. The most frustrating thing is there was another white lady waited together with us. And the store service person talked and explained to her about what's going on here. BUT they ignored us and just let us wait. Both me and my boyfriend are Asian, we felt that they discriminated against us. And the way the treated us later on made me feel even more towards that. I have been an Ulta member for a long time. This is first time I had such a bad and frustrating experience with them. read more

I used to love Sephora but once Ulta came to town I realized it CAN get better. They both have their perks but Ulta has sales and discounts on top of a much better rewards program. Sephora gives you points towards free samples while Ulta gives you $$ off your purchases. Save up enough points and you can save A LOT of $ off your purchases. I saved mine for the year and ended up saving $65 on Christmas. They don't give away their products as much as Sephora as far as samples go but this in turn saves you $ and the sales....ugh the sales are awesome. Sephora hardly ever discounts items and if they do it's a small bargain bin you have to dig through and the products are usually broken or have finger marks in the make up. Ulta is one of those stores that you can spend hours in and you want everything you see. I love Ulta!!!! read more

Their prices are definitely more reasonable than Sephora, and I like that they give me my space when I shop. The associates made it known they're there to answer questions and for help if I them but the give me some breathing room and don't try to push products. read more

After having a terrible experience with the location in Niskayuna, I decided to try the Colonie location. I booked a Microzone Anti-Aging Facial with Sarah W. and she was FANTASTIC. Very personable, did a great job and very knowledgeable about the products that they sell there. I will never pay $100 for a facial at one of those fancy salons again. It was a 20 minute session for $27 AND I got a 20% discount for being a new customer. I have already booked my next appointment with her and will be going back monthly. Manager Michele had a MAJOR Attitude with her employees and everybody around her. She was literally yelling at everybody every time I walk by. She had a disgusted and angry look on her face and didn't even acknowledge me standing there. She was storming through the store and slamming doors. Completely unacceptable and rude. If you don't like your job don't work with people!!! Sometimes I come out of my way from Saratoga to come to this store because they have brands that my Ulta doesn't but I probably won't be coming back here for a long time.
