Its fearless leader and his team of stylists play with scissors for the shear fun of it, and are the ride-or-dyes you and your hair have been looking for. Nestled into the ground floor of Troy's beautiful Proctor's Theater building on 4th Street, with its highly decorative front facade of brick and marble covered in glazed terra-cotta, it's no surprise to discover that the salon's insides match its outsides. The interior is seriously sophisticated, with light and dark grey walls serving as the perfect contrast against the large floor-to-ceiling windows and big, beautiful green plants that call the bright window seats home. The main floor is a neat little grid of beautiful styling stations, and mirrors, plenty of mirrors - even full wall-length mirrors - except instead of feeling like you're trapped in a funhouse, you're lost at Barney's, and loving it. A fun feature I really loved: each stylist's station is equipped with a mini Husky or Stanley branded tool chest on wheels, including a massive tool chest at the makeup bar. So like, not only does it add a cool masculine feel to the chic space, but I love the message that sends to clients, like, "Yeah, we work with tools, too!" Nice flex, guys. The best seat in the house, however, is in Christopher Brian's chair. Sure, he has a slew of super talented hairstylists working with him, but Christopher Brian speaks hair; English is his second language, and I've never had a bad hair day with him. Facts. Christopher works incredibly fast yet extremely precise, and with the eye and talent of a professional who's been behind the scenes at NYFW. I've long been privy to his next-level hair skills, and I'm incredibly happy to be back in his chair once again. He works in every color of the color wheel, but he's a self proclaimed Blonde Lover/Expert/God, and those are my people, so hair I am! There's a reason this place has been voted the best salon in the Capital Region for a number of years. Christopher and his team are THE BEST. It took me years to find a place I trusted with my hair in the Albany area, but after finding CBS I am a customer for life. I usually get my hair done by Stacy and she is excellent at listening to my ideas and 1) telling me why some of them are not the best for my hair and 2) giving me a cut and color that I LOVE every single time. On top of that, she is extremely pleasant and makes the time you spend in her chair fun and engaging. We did an email consult due to Covid, and when I came in for my appointment, Stacy was very prepared. Stacy had great suggestions, showed me a lot of photos, and landed on the perfect color and cut. For my second appointment Stacy had to leave in the middle of the appointment and Christopher took over without missing a beat. That is one of the nicest things about the salon is that everyone works well together and it is a very warm and inviting environment. I've been going to Christopher for years, initially at the recommendation of a co-worker. Having had several horrible dye jobs before, to say I was nervous was an understatement. But the minute I sat in the chair & told him what I was looking for, he said "I have just the thing" and took off for bowls of dye, brushes, tin foil & saran wrap... I thought maybe he was MacGyver. Turns out, pretty close. My hair looked amazing. After a few more trips I decided to get brave & try something new. Being a bit of a color genius, he recommended departing from the blonde life to try being a redhead -- the very color that had done me wrong so many times before. But having experienced his work firsthand, I put my hair in his hands as I listened to him shouting color codes to his assistant and then once again, away he went for bowls of magic (insert major deep-breath moment). She'ss a dedicated person to her science of art and the art of color. She takes the time to know your hair and make recommendations. I came in for a shampoo & blowout the Friday before Christmas. It was a last minute decision and my normal hairdresser was booked so I turned to Yelp & I found that this salon had great reviews plus online booking which is awesome so I scheduled a mid-morning appointment with Stacy. Since I'd never been, I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at this beautiful, modern salon located in a gorgeous historic building (ps parking was a breeze - I found a big open spot directly across the street from the salon). Stacy was really warm & friendly and did a quick but thorough consult before getting down to business. She then did an amazing shampoo job - she didn't get a drop of water on my face so I could have applied my make-up before & avoided looking like a hot mess after all. She then gave me a fantastic blow out that looked great & i was thoroughly pleased with. I would absolutely return. read more

On May 19th, 2022 I went into this salon for the first time (after moving to Troy) for a basic trim with Stacy. Here we are 10 months later and I am STILL trying to grow out this haircut. Somehow I ended up with over-texturized hair that is thin and super straight, especially at the ends, which is weird because I don't have naturally straight hair. I ended up going back to my long-time stylist at a different salon and she told me that it looked over-texturized and that a lot of weight had been removed from my hair. Mind you, I never asked for any of that. Having never seen my hair before, I'm not sure why Stacy cut my hair like this when all I asked for was a basic trim of 1 to 2 inches. I have long hair, so I have been having to gradually get trims for the last 10 months while trying to grow this out. In previous months I had gone back to Christopher Brian Salon for bang trims only, and saw Tommy who was wonderful. I even had a color appointment scheduled, but I kept cancelling because I was scared to go back here for anything more than just a bang trim. I wish staff would have asked me how I normally cut my hair instead of just completely changing the texture of it and removing weight when I didn't ask for it. I know I am in the minority as this salon has rave reviews, but sadly that was not my experience. I will say that the salon is clean and inviting and the staff is polite. Christopher is not a hair stylist; he is a hair doctor. My hair had been through two processes and was recovering from some very uneven balayage. Christopher was able to not only give me exactly what I wanted (it was like he read my mind) but he gave me advice and sample products to show me how to maintain it. I shopped around the capital region for the right salon since the first spot I tried did not go well and I am so glad I found this place! GO HERE FIRST!!! Christopher took the time to figure out what my hair needed and worked in different mixtures to ensure everything was even and blended. I've never had a hair stylist pay such attention to detail. First time went there and got a women's hair cut. When I got back home, washed out the curs the stylist did in the salon, I found the two sides of my hair were not same length! Which is really terrible and I payed $60 for a hair cut and this is what I got. The stylist was talking to another client all the time while she was cutting my hair, and apparently was not paying attention to what she was supposed to do. I have been going to Kerry since I moved to Troy, and she has always been so patient with my obsession with being super blonde. She is so good with color, and every time she tweaks the formula to go lighter, my color always comes out beautifully. I trust her judgement and her expertise- she is a master with blonde color! I never do much to my hair, but I was ready to update my look a bit. I checked Yelp for some suggestions and I found Christopher Brian Salon. I called after work to make an appointment and they had an opening the next day. Perfect! I walk in and was greeted and offered a beverage. The salon is very sharp looking. I love the long mirrors, the light fixtures and beautiful art all around. When my stylist comes over, she introduced herself, Stacy.We go over my hair preferences and she gives me some options. We decide to try balayage. During my hair treatment, she is easy to talk to and funny. She even gave me a brief history of balayage, which I found pretty interesting. She really took the time to listen to my usual routine and suggested how I can change things in the future, but this was a great foundation to start. After my hair was colored and styled, she never pressured me to buy any add ons. Stacy was professional and kind during my time in the salon. My hair came out beautiful! BEST EVER! came to CB salon because i needed to be saved from a bad highlight job at a previous salon. The FULL staff came to my rescue with ideas and techniques to correct my hair. i instantly felt at ease, as i could tell they were KNOWLEDGEABLE and truly wanted to help me :)) Nicole was my colorist, very sweet and pretty. she did an UNBELIEVABLE job! i smiled the whole way home. i made my next appointment and could not be more thrilled that my life long search for the perfect salon is finally over. while i was there Christopher had a client and gave her an incredibly beautiful head of color, like.. jaw dropping.
