I wish I could give it a negative star. My husband got his hair cut here today. It was worse than the hair cut I gave him during COVID shut down. He said the shaver seemed to get stuck in his hair. He ended up having to go to Jean Paul Salon to get it improved - cut was so bad it couldn't be fixed. I've attached a photo of the cut pre Jean Paul. It doesn't show the bald patch on his crown... I don't like leaving such a bad review and maybe there are some good stylists at this place, but wanted to let people know they should definitely do their homework on finding a stylist before just booking a cut here. read more

Lou Montana is the only person who I let touch my son's hair. We let his hair grow from the time he was born until he turned three. It killed Lou a bit to touch those long blonde locks, but it was time. Since then, we've been going back to see Lou whenever things get too unruly. And when my daughter came along, she got to take a turn in Lou's chair too. He is great with kids. I'd go and have him cut my hair too, but I have no hair to cut. I love taking the children to a salon meant for adults. There are no televisions with cartoons. No juvenile touches or branded characters. Instead, my kids get to build a relationship with a human being who talks to them about what's going on in their lives and takes an interest in what they have to say. Much like the experience any adult would have at the salon. Except for when they're done, Lou offers them a pick from his stash of Tootsie Pops. It's always a pleasure to come here, and it was one of the things we missed most about the area in the year we spent in New Jersey. read more

I've been seeing Karen for years and every time I leave the Cuttery I am very very happy with my hair!! She's great. How great you may ask? Great enough so that when I was living in Virginia I would make it a point to be in NY every few months to get my hair done (my hometown is Poughkeepsie, mind you, so I would drive to Albany from Poughkeepsie after getting there from VA to get a cut/color and see some friends). She's very friendly and I'm always thrilled with how my hair looks. Prices are very reasonable, I've never had any complaints, everyone who works there is super friendly, the salon is clean and well maintained, and there's always a good selection of magazines. After my fiancé was referred to this place by a co-worker he was able to get in with a hair cut from Olivia, and he has no complaints. She was very friendly and knew what she was doing. The waiting room was full of color and had a retro feel. The people who worked there seemed very friendly. Price was great too! THey didn't seem to accept credit, as he had to walk down to Stewarts to get money from the ATM. He said they seemed to all be contractors. read more

I have been a member of the Cuttery Fan Club since 1982! I have gone to Peter and Su for my hair; Peter and I had the awful, tearful experience of my eldest son's 1st haircut--all three of us cried. My son is now 32 and neither Peter, nor I have yet gotten over the trauma. I used to drive nearly two hours from Mass. to get my hair done; but for the past four years, I have been in an electric power wheelchair, which has kept me from my Cuttery friends. I am giving my experience at The Cuttery, 5 stars. I was able to get in quickly and with almost no notice. I told the receptionist that I wanted a stylist that will listen well and implement what they've heard. I was placed into Amy's trusting hands. She did great, took plenty of time with me, and gave me one of the best cuts of my life. The salon is nice and clean, was bustling with activity, and parking was a snap. I'm astounded by the lack of reviews for this place, as I have heard raves about it for years. I had my first appointment today and I'm already hooked. The salon is bright, funky and modern inside and the staff is very friendly and professional. Peter cut my hair and not only did he have a great personality but he gave me an adorable haircut. He was conscious of what I wanted and checked with me before cutting length (always important). The price is GREAT ($35-45 range for a cut) for the quality and service. When compared to places like Jean Paul that overcharge and have rude, careless service, this place has it all. read more

I've had Amy cut my hair for the past two years and she is fantastic! I really don't know anything about hair or styling and I always tell her a very basic idea of what I want and then let her knowledge and expertise take over. I have been going to Joe since the summer of 2012. My color is always great and lasts for 5- 6 weeks easily. I am trying to grow my hair out and have very fine, thick hair - difficult to manage. He listens to what I ask and gingerly snips the ends so I can let it grow. The place is clean, chic with retro and reasonable prices. No credit cards but that's OK.
