I had my first visit to Pixie Salon in Albany today and it was wonderful. I had a Ouidad cut (a curly hair specialty) by Ashley, and I am thrilled with the result. The salon is tastefully decorated and a delightful atmosphere. The staff greeted me warmly and were very accommodating. Ashley, the stylist who'd been recommended to me, could not have been sweeter. She was just lovely. She took time and care to understand what I wanted, make thoughtful suggestions, and be considerate of my styling preferences. I walked out feeling great and loving my haircut. Bob Engel did my color and gave me a little trim. Perfect experience all around. SAFE in COVID - respectful and masked. He was thoughtful and friendly but not too chatty as a person and skilled and experienced as a stylist. My color came out perfect and the blow out was excellent (he got my hair looking smooth without breaking it and pulling too hard). He gets a 10/10 and go see him!!!! There are hundreds of salons throughout the capital region, many are very good. What sets this salon apart from the rest is how it "feels". Not only is the environment adorable, completely unpretentious, warm and inviting, but the staff is genuinely sincere and very obviously happy to be there AND make you feel taken care of at every step. I can see why they were voted number one in 2018. There are a lot of places that can get the job done professionally...but this one does it the way you've always wished went down. read more

The price is on the higher side but it's well worth it. The stylists give you exactly what you ask for, and communicate well about what's best for your hair. I know there are a lot of good reviews, but I have to say, I would never go back to Pixie Salon. I had a consult with Ashley. I have very thin, fine hair. I wanted someone who could help me figure out a cut that would work for my hair and be easy to maintain. I don't have unrealistic expectations. I know my hair is thin. Ashley was the farthest from someone who would understand my type of hair. I read her profile and thought..."why would they set me up with someone who specializes in curly hair?" I explained to the receptionist that I wanted to see someone who worked with fine, thin hair and actually asked why she would pick Ashley for the consult. What a mistake. Ashley came across extremely arrogant. She kept telling me how thin my hair is and that she could cut it but it's still going to be thin. No sh*t! I wasn't expecting her to make it thicker. I left the salon feeling horrible about my hair. It was as if Ashley wanted me to feel worse. Honesty is fine. She was rude. Thankfully, I found someone who is very understanding of my type of hair. It is still fine and thin, but I leave the salon feeling good. I left Pixie feeling very unhappy and disappointed. read more

I am a fan.. the pixie look is great. Wish I knew the price of a cut. Have really short hair, $65 a little on the pricier side. I would still go back given that my other option was to drive back to Portland Maine - 5.5hrs away. Other options in Albany/Saratoga Springs area are just as pricy and not as nice of a cut. read more

I had been going to the same hair stylist for many years. I liked her and wanted to support her business but the past 2-3 years her salon has morphed from a welcoming, warm environment to a cool, everything gray, white, and stark feeling. I also followed her on Facebook and found the stylists seemed obsessed with color, bayalage, and long hair. I have short, un-processed hair. I'm sure it was unintentional but it made me feel unwelcome. I finally took advantage of the pandemic shut down to break up with her and then I found Kevin at Pixie! Pixie is a warm, welcoming, down to earth feeling salon where ALL types of hair feel appreciated. Maura did my hair and when I booked I requested heavy foils and stated I would pay extra. On arrival I requested the same she said no problem. It only took 30 min to foil my hair (normally it's at least 1.5-2hrs) and she did it in such big chunks just to get the bleach on, never had that few foils ever.. esp for a full foil apt. As I'm sitting there I notice the amount of roots all around my sideburns and hairline, she clearly only foiled the top to make it look done. I'm never one to complain so when she came to check on me I said "I seriously hate to be a pain I know highlights don't go to the root but so much of this is still brown, my entire sideburns are sticking out and they're brown would you mind maybe throwing in like one or two more foils on the side?" She goes no they're in there already, I just shut up at that point. My hair is now yellow and worse than when I came in. She had the nerve to charge me for 2/3 of a foil since "it wasn't a full head".. uh YOU chose not to foil my entire head, the apt I booked. Never been so disappointed I'll never go back. read more

I have been going to Bob Engel at Pixie Salon for close to 3 years now and he is my absolute favorite. We've taken my color from natural, to red, to platinum blonde, back to red, and my cut from a super short pixie now growing out into the mullet of my dreams. With every idea I've taken to him, he has executed it perfectly. He is also just a delightful human to be around and I always look forward to seeing him. If I could give them a million stars, I would. Called this am for emergency prom hair (stylist cancelled suddenly: don't use someone not associated with a salon because when they cancel, you are out of luck). Pixie called right back, fit my daughter in and did an exceptional job of a beautiful, magazine worthy hair for prom. (It seriously looked exactly like the magazine picture we brought in). Maeve was absolutely professional and an artist. The salon is very cool: funky, very high-end look inside with a busy clientele and buzzing atmosphere and skilled and cool looking hair styles walking out the door. I paid $155 for partial hair color ( black color for few gray hair) and a trim the other day (make ends of my hair at the back even). If I had a hair cut, it would have been fine. Bob did a good job but Im sure other salon can do the same for lesser price. My friend at work had highlights and a hair cut at a different salon, paid $135. Its where Im going next time. read more

Ashley is an amazing stylist. After showing her an image of the style I wanted, she replicated it to the "T." Getting a cut that I pictured having has never happened to me before!!! Not only was she an expert stylist, she educated me on how to maintain the look and explained how my hair will evolve as I age. She was a pleasure to talk too; it was like catching up with a friend. After a lot of research my daughter helped me find Pixie. I read all the reviews and bio's and decided to book with Julie - she specializes in short razor cut hairstyles. From the minute I walked in to the minute Julie began cutting my hair I knew I found my new salon and hairstylist. Julie was fun and personable and I felt like I knew her forever. My nervousness went away immediately. My haircut came out better than ever - I couldn't be happier. Ashley took care of my brows which was also a great experience. I usually brace myself for the pain of eyebrow wax, not this time. It didn't hurt at all and looks great. After my cut I was introduced to Kathy the owner.
