A great curly cut by Debi!!!
Barbaralee S.

I have been going to Debi for a great curly cut for about a year. I love her professionilism and sense of humor. Many stylists are not available on Mondays. She is. I highly recommend her

YOU SUCK!! It took me two years to grow this hair out BURNED TO MY SCALP with scragly bangs from broken damaged hair by Rini. ugh !
Eileen S.

RUDE OBNOXIOUS hairdresser, trying to tell me that the blonde hair falling out of my head was normal after highlights. I now have bangs my hair is burned so badly all the way back to my scalp. I made an appointment with a color expert in this salon. according to the salon, this is the best colorist the salon has to offer. What a joke!. Do not come here for color or you won't leave with your hair on your head!! is it the trauma of watching my hair fall out every time I ran my fingers through it was not enough, Rini chose to fight and argue. Insisting I was the one being rude simply because I wanted my highlights to go all the way back on my head. she's so incompetent. She ran out of product when she got halfway between my forehead and my ears and then went and mixed more products. She should've use a stronger peroxide at this point, and said more than likely she used to 20 because I know sooner got done having those last foils put in which went all the way to the back of my head like they were supposed to only to have her wrist me four minutes later. of course, she didn't use a stronger bleach developer so as soon as she washed and dried my hair clearly the foils from my ears back were nonexistent. It looks so stupid because the front was popping and it was nothing past my ears going all the way to the back of my head in the crown area. In order to get her to go back and fix her problem that she made, this ridiculous bantering back-and-forth with her fighting with me to get her to do her job. Oh my God! I don't know how you still have a job there! I had to explain for $300. I'm not walking out the salon until my hair in the back, matches the foils you started in the front. you took too much time putting the foils in and when you mix the product, you should've used a much stronger peroxide like even a 30 volume if you were planning on rinsing them out four minutes after you put the foils in. I'm sure the 20 in the front definitely needed to come out at that point. I don't believe for one second that you've been doing color for very long! The proof is in the bags that I now have because of your level of absolute incompetence. Somebody needs to make you stick with hair cuts and blow dries before you hurt somebody! 2 1/2 years it took to grow that hair out, and you burned it all off in an afternoon. Congratulations genius! The confrontation about it from you,was just the icing on the cake! I EXPECT A FULL REFUND FOR DAMAGING MY HAIR! Rini, if you had an ounce of integrity, you would've sent me home with the very best products to help fix my hair and hydrate it over the next several weeks or months. THE LEAST YOU COULD'VE DONE!! Wow please have whoever owns this salon contact me right away! I'm down in Florida right now, and the salon that did my hair extensions is willing to put into writing color was placed on the mini of my glue bonds, which caused approximately 40 of them to fall right out the following week. Just had to pay to have them reinstalled. Thanks to this idiot!! . She should've known better. She claims she doea hair extensions, she actually had the audacity to ask me FIVE TIMES to come there and get my hair extensions from now on. Yeah right! you can't even color hair without burning my hair! I am certainly not going to spend $4K at that salon, absolute joke after this experience!! I would not recommend this salon for anything more than a haircut or blow dry. EXTREMELY INCOMPETENT. could have gotten a better job at Supercuts. NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!

I went the other day to have my extensions removed and to have a new color done on my 4 month growth... I was sooo surprised the fabulous condition my hair was in... Jess and Angie were great and patient during the removal. Jess worked her magic and my blonde hair is incredible. The entire 2 day process was nothing short of professional, creative, caring and well worth it!!! Ania is by far the best and only owner that I have known and I've known many that is so caring and gracious and makes you always feel not only at home but that she genuinely cares about each and everyone that enters her doors. Call for an appointment you'll never regret it.

Should've picked a different haircut, because the guy in the reference photo had a different hair texture as me. The barber was good and very friendly.

First time back in two years. Ania's memory is anazing...she remembered me & assigned me to a master stylist. I have challenging hair -- fine and dense, like me lol! Cheri, my stylist was a pro, I've never had a non-mirror consult before. She understood what changes I wanted to make, articulated it back and then cut and styled it giving it lift and flexibility. I needed product and mi e was discontinued but Ania found a suitable substitute. 4 instead of 5 stars because it took 7 minutes to be greeted, with no other customer at the counter. Also, I'm used to the stylists escorting customers to the counter for checkout & any last questions. Been going there off and on since 2006, plan to go back.

So this will be a fairly long review since I want to make note of all of the aspects that have made up my interactions at Ania Hair Studio. So, for starters, I've had tape-in hair extensions for going on 6 years. I actually travel back to my hometown every 2 months to get them done, but after traveling back to NY after my last move-up at my usual salon, I realized after the first wash that I had forgotten to buy new hair and was due for it at my last appointment. Totally my fault! After the first wash my hair was horribly knotty, a sign of extensions at the end of their life. So, after weighing the inconvenience of having to unknot my hair after every wash for the next 2 months, I decided to take new hair that I already had to a local salon in NY, which would be cheaper and less time consuming than traveling 4 hours home to my usual salon. My appointment was on a Thursday evening with Cheri, who was nice enough. I explained (then and previously on the phone before making an appointment to ensure this was okay) that at my other salon, I bring in my own hair but my stylist always uses hotheads tape regardless of the brand of hair, because it's the best she's used in her 15 years of doing extensions, and that I'd like her to use hotheads tape. She made a comment that tape in extensions usually come with tape already on them and that we could use hotheads tape when we reapplied next time. She asked if I wanted her to put the hotheads tape over the tape currently on them after my request, but said it in a tone that indicated that wouldn't really make sense and that she wouldn't recommend that. So, I said okay to her using the tape already on them. The first thing I noticed after she was finished was that there was no room between the extensions and my scalp, like absolutely zero space. I don't know much about the technical application of tape-in hair extensions because I'm not a hair stylist or certified in tape-ins, but I do know, as most people who get tape-ins, that you are NOT supposed to do that. You're supposed to leave a few centimeters of space between the scalp. Not only does installing them this way cause tension that can be painful, but it can also damage your hair. Fast-forward to late Saturday morning (40 hours later) I wash my hair for the first time and realize that a whole extension is lying on the shower floor! I hadn't even felt it moving, it slipped out with complete ease. By the end of the shower I had another one completely out and most of the other ones were sliding and/or opening up. I immediately called Ania Hair Studio and they were able to make an appointment early the following week to correct it. I called my normal hair stylist and explained the situation and asked if I did something wrong. I usually wait close to a week to wash my hair, but I had an event Saturday evening and wanted my hair to be fresh. So, thinking back I thought maybe I messed up, maybe you have to wait 48 hours, and I only waited 40. Websites tell you to wait 24-48 hours and while I was almost certain I had always been told 24 hours, maybe I had just forgotten in all my years of getting tape-ins and not needing to wash them in the next few days. My normal hair stylist made it ABSOLUTELY CLEAR that it had to be an application error, that no matter what, tape-in extensions should never just "slip out" the way they did in the shower, and that it had nothing to do with anything I did. When I went back in, Cheri kept repeating how at my previous appointment she kept saying how she didn't like the tape on this hair, "remember?" At no point in my previous appointment did she ever make a comment about that. She did make a comment about the tape being stuck in my hair from removing the extensions already in my hair-it had only been in my hair for 2 weeks so they were difficult to remove and the tape was leaving a lot of residue in my hair. But once again, she at no point commented on the tape quality of this new hair. Additionally, if that had been the case and she had made comments about it, I'm confused how when I specifically requested hotheads tape, she basically said that doesn't make sense and that we should use the tape already on this hair. She asked how the placement generally was and I told her I'm used to my extensions leaving a little room in between the extension and my scalp. She said "oh, people around here like them tight," I guess because you get another week or so of wear before they look too grown out. And while she may have clients who like to have them put in that way, that is NOT how they teach you to properly put them in when you get certified. So, I would expect her to put them in the way they teach you for certification, or, at the very least ask me if I'd like them placed on my scalp or with a few centimeters of room before putting them in that way. [ran out of room, the rest of this review is in the attached pictures.]

This is supposed to be a BOB HAIRCUT
Anna M.

Was looking for a good hair salon with good professionals to fix my cheap Bob haircut from at 70 year old Italian gentleman. Found this place on Google search and got excited because of all the good reviews. So I called, asked for someone who is good with short haircuts. I was welcomed by Melinda, very nice lady. She invited me into a room, I showed her few pictures of what I wanted the final result to look like. She said no problem. She washed my hair, then did really nice cut. The problem is that once she started BLENDING of the hair , she just kept on chopping and chopping and chopping. I ended up with exactly what I didn't want to have, super short pieces of hair everywhere and practically lost most of my highlighted font locks of hair that we're adding freshness and brightness to my hair color . Few days went by,I've tried multiple styling products, tried blow-drying my hair ( which is pretty impossible because pieces are so short).... It's just so disappointing when you really really look forward to getting a nice haircut, spending good money on it, and in the end you REGRET it all. Just want to cry. Don't even want to look at myself in the mirror. So much for a beautiful haircut for my son's 1st bday party.

this is copper, not violet

My daughter went to Ania yesterday for a new color. It was her 18th birthday and she spent 4 hours and $240 at this salon getting this done. Today she is in tears about how wrong the color is. She wanted to go from a dark brown to a violet. I told her to do a lot of research in choosing a place because it needs to be done right by an experienced colorist. (She obviously didn't check any Yelp reviews and chose Ania based on Instagram photos) She even went in for a color consultation last week and Angela made her feel confident that this color change could be done. I feel really bad for my daughter and angry with myself for letting her do this on her own. Hard lesson learned. No, I would not recommend this salon if you want the color done right. Here is a picture of "VIOLET" hair color, not to mention the damage!

The salon itself seems nice enough, but my "stylist" (I am using that term outside of its proper…read moremeaning) was shitty and gave me the worst haircut of my life. If I lived in Albany I may come back to this salon because the owner was pleasant and it was clean but I would definitely ask for a different "stylist." My Experience: Me: Hi, I would like a VERY short trim. I just got my haircut and am only getting a trim because it is only more than $5 than a wash alone. Really, 1/2 an inch max. Her: No problem. Early in I warned her that she was cutting too much and I was freaking out. She begged to differ, said she was "fixing the layers." She wasn't. I brought it up 3 more times in the process, she didn't listen. I have a very good stylist at home who makes great long, flowing layers. Apparently that soft look didn't work for Miss Albany 2002. When she was done with me I walked out with a Jennifer Anniston circa friends nightmarish chop head. I was sad. I didn't want to talk about it. I just finished taking the NY Bar that day and I was tired, too tired to fight, too tired to cry. I smiled and paid. I even tipped her. I wish I didn't tip her. I waited two months to post this review because I didn't know if I was being sensitive about my hair immediately after getting the cut. But now I feel like I can truly say IT WAS THE WORST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE. She didn't listen, even though I told her repeatedly. She thought she knew better. Oh yeah, she was licking her lips every two seconds, I would have bet $100 she was on meth. I even got a lot of "ahhhh...you poor thing, look at your hair, bad haircuts are the worst... it will grow soon" talks from girlfriends upon my return. Not the talks that I solicited mentioning I hate my hair, but words that fell out of their mouths when they got sight of my hair disaster. Anyway it is finally starting to grow out. When I walked out Tullio that day in Feb I told myself, "don't freak out, just wait two months." It was really the worst haircut of my life.
