I had a really disappointing experience at Skin Forensics…read more I came in during early pregnancy after having already experienced back to back miscarriages, and my skin was in terrible shape. I explained that I believed I was dealing with hormonal acne, but the owner repeatedly assured me I was wrong. Instead, she diagnosed me with dermatitis and insisted that I was likely having an allergic reaction to my laundry detergent. She recommended an oil-based cleanser that she had formulated herself, which I personally believe made my skin significantly worse, and I also spent money replacing all of my laundry detergent based on her advice. Throughout the appointment, I felt unheard and dismissed. After my skin continued to worsen, I later saw a dermatologist, who confirmed my suspicion that I was, in fact, experiencing hormonal acne. What concerned me most, however, was that despite knowing I was pregnant, she encouraged me to take cod liver oil supplements, saying the high vitamin A content would be beneficial. I later learned that excessive preformed vitamin A during pregnancy can increase the risk of birth defects, and I was incredibly relieved that I chose not to follow that recommendation. I understand that everyone's experience may be different, but based on mine, I would encourage anyone--especially if you're pregnant--to be cautious and to discuss any skincare or supplement recommendations with your OB or healthcare provider before taking them.

The salon itself seems nice enough, but my "stylist" (I am using that term outside of its proper…read moremeaning) was shitty and gave me the worst haircut of my life. If I lived in Albany I may come back to this salon because the owner was pleasant and it was clean but I would definitely ask for a different "stylist." My Experience: Me: Hi, I would like a VERY short trim. I just got my haircut and am only getting a trim because it is only more than $5 than a wash alone. Really, 1/2 an inch max. Her: No problem. Early in I warned her that she was cutting too much and I was freaking out. She begged to differ, said she was "fixing the layers." She wasn't. I brought it up 3 more times in the process, she didn't listen. I have a very good stylist at home who makes great long, flowing layers. Apparently that soft look didn't work for Miss Albany 2002. When she was done with me I walked out with a Jennifer Anniston circa friends nightmarish chop head. I was sad. I didn't want to talk about it. I just finished taking the NY Bar that day and I was tired, too tired to fight, too tired to cry. I smiled and paid. I even tipped her. I wish I didn't tip her. I waited two months to post this review because I didn't know if I was being sensitive about my hair immediately after getting the cut. But now I feel like I can truly say IT WAS THE WORST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE. She didn't listen, even though I told her repeatedly. She thought she knew better. Oh yeah, she was licking her lips every two seconds, I would have bet $100 she was on meth. I even got a lot of "ahhhh...you poor thing, look at your hair, bad haircuts are the worst... it will grow soon" talks from girlfriends upon my return. Not the talks that I solicited mentioning I hate my hair, but words that fell out of their mouths when they got sight of my hair disaster. Anyway it is finally starting to grow out. When I walked out Tullio that day in Feb I told myself, "don't freak out, just wait two months." It was really the worst haircut of my life.

They offer a free first service, and I got 2 services so this was a nice touch. All of the staff I encountered were pleasant and professional and I was out in about 10 minutes! While I was there the member performing my services (eyebrows and lip) showed me how they looked and I was very pleased. She cleaned up my eyebrows very nicely but didn't shape them very much, which didn't bother me as I was just looking for them to be straightened out. --Side note: the wax they use was very gentle, no paper glued to your face, just pulling off hot wax which was a very nice change.-- My only complaint comes now that I took a better look at home. My eyebrows are definitely cleaned up but they are some stragglers that I'll have to pluck, and although the wax was gentle it didn't seem to really pull all the hairs completely, I can tell I'll need a wax again very soon unfortunately. Overall I would recommend this place if you're in a time pinch like I was. The experience was pretty good and the service was speedy and professional. **I would've liked to give 3.5 stars but Yelp doesn't allow it, but they definitely deserve more of a 4 than a 3**
