Stephanie is the best hair stylist I've had in my 47 years. Salty reviewers need to check themselves.

DISHONEST AND UNTRUSTWORTHY: The owner was not forthcoming and honest when I spoke with her about coming to her studio. I had told her that I was interested in coming to her studio for a specific brand of hair color, and I also asked if she would wear a mask. Since she agreed to wear a mask, and she offered the hair color I wanted, so I became her client and have seen her three times. She did not follow through on both areas. She emailed all of her clients a few weeks ago and said she was dropping all of her products and was going with a one product instead. She did not explain why or what was in the product, etc. I figured I'd give it a try since my hair appointment was in a few weeks, and she was very particular about the products she used. I had my appointment scheduled for today. She emailed me a couple of days ago to make sure I had received her email about changing products. I told her I was still planning on coming and would like to hear more about the product, why she chose it, etc. when I came to see her to have my hair done. She then proceeded to provide reasons why she chose to change, which included that she had started to transition prior to the pandemic and waited because of the ammonia in the product and masking (she said it's problematic with the ammonia). She had not said anything about this previously. She had not said anything about mask issues prior to this, or that the new product contained ammonia. Again, this is TWO days before my appointment. When I said that I'd be wearing a mask and would like her to, she said she wasn't going to. She left it up to me about whether or not I wanted to continue with her. I replied that I found a solution that would work (she did not have to do anything or wear a mask). She then informed me this morning (hours before my appointment) that she couldn't accomodate my needs, etc. There were no negative exchanges between us, but she decided that it wouldn't work. I find her behavior to be dishonest and disconcerting. When she took me on as a client, she knew she was going to transition out of my hair color and not wear masks, but did not tell me. She also said she would wear a mask but reneged on that promise. She waited to the last minute to essentially communicate HER concerns about me coming with her new use of the product. I was flexible to accomodate my needs with these new changes; she was not. I have my birthday next week and planned concerts to attend, etc.. She left me hanging in a BIG way. Her treatment of me was very unprofessional. Warning: she is not trustworthy and is unprofessional in handling important issues. I recommend going somehere else. read more

Stephanie is a skillful and creative professional. Best cut I've had in a long time and certainly the best since I moved here two years ago.

I love this place hair hairdressers are very nice and friendly. I never thought that I could have this much natural curl in my hair and Stephanie had a way of bringing out that I'd even know was possible and show me and how to bring out on my own when I'm at home as well, which was so cool to learn. all so she dyed my hair too a level of blonde that I didnt know that I was capable of and it just looks fantastic I absolutely love it! read more

Here's a classic case of customer service hell ... A relative of mine contacted Karma Hair Studio in Troy to schedule an updo for a wedding this weekend and was asked to email a photo. The salon owner, Stephanie Krug, emailed one of her stylists (and obviously pressed "reply all") calling my relative a "b---h," and telling the stylist to charge $85. My relative ended up going somewhere else for obvious reasons. While I understand the frustrations of customer service, this namecalling was not only unprofessional, but unprovoked. (The relative in question is visiting from another state and doesn't even know Krug.) Please go somewhere else - plenty of salons are happy to treat customers well. Oh, yeah, the salon removed its Facebook page - great way to face up to this. read more

These ladies are awesome - I not only loved my cut but the experience just as great. I very infrequently "treat" myself to a hair cut. It's one of those things I find is extremely easy to put off. I had gone over 1.5yrs and 10" of hair growth before my last cut when I walked in to Karma. I received NO judgement for this, which is a big relief. The incredible judgement that I'm not 100% knowledgable about esthetics and hair products and being pushed into buying things I don't understand because I seem gullible annoys me. For most salons, this is their bread and butter - sell random shit to people who know don't better, but not at Karma. They explained the products they used and why they used them (very eco-friendly and super healthy for your hair/health) without "selling it". Audrey was super easy to talk to and was unafraid to suggest hair/style cut ideas. I'm always overwhelmed and I like the defer to the expert and she was really helpful. She really understood that I'm a WASH&WEAR girl, and I needed something EASY and maintenance free, probably not something easy to do for a hair stylist when there's many other creative and interesting choices in the world. Also, I have incredibly thick long and "lustrous hair" (#humblebrag) - most hair dressers want to do crazy fun shit with it, because I could probably pull it off. I liked that Audrey respected my wishes and made my time in the chair super fun. I will not be waiting that long for a hair cut again, thanks to Karma. :) read more

Karma Hair Studio deserves every five-star rating here. I am new to the area and was browsing Yelp for a great place to get my hair cut. I decided on Karma Hair Studio (I loved the name!) and could not have been happier! Audrey was my stylist - she is adorable, hip and oh so meticulous! I was worried that since I was the 6pm haircut that she would be exhausted and just want to get the heck out of there. Boy, was I wrong! She took over an hour on my hair - first a head massage and wash, then the cut, then blowout... and I was shocked the find it was all only $35! (She should honestly be charging double that). She took her time cutting my hair, separating it into portions, checking it was even and cutting perfect layers that framed my face. I didn't have any particular hair cut I wanted when I walked in - I let her just do her thing (she's the specialist, anyway!). She ended up chopping about 4-5 inches off to create the cutest long bob! I didn't even know I would look good with short hair, but I absolutely love love LOVE it. I will definitely be back to Audrey and am recommending Karma to everyone I know. Bravo to the ladies at Karma at creating such a cute, hip and talented studio. read more

Lynsey is fantastic! She gave me my first devacurl haircut and I've got to say I LOVE it. She worked with such care and detail, shaping and personalizing my curls.I love the products she used and the prewash scalp massage was super relaxing. My hair is definitely in her hands from now on! Karma's style studio is an awesome space, the daylight floods in and they've got a cute, trendy atmosphere going on. I can't wait for my next cut. read more

It's not easy to find a stylist that really understands curly hair, but Lynsey of Karma Hair Studio is a gifted hair stylist who really "gets it." She uses the specialized dry-cutting technique taught by DevaCurl, resulting in a totally customized cut that follows your natural curl patterns. I've been entrusting Lynsey to my curls for a few years now, so naturally I followed her to Karma Hair Studio! I couldn't be more happy with my experience! The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the view overlooks Monument Square right in the heart of downtown Troy. The girls have a genuine passion for their craft and their community, and it shows in the thoughtfulness of how they built their business (right down to the antique sink that came from the original Troy beauty school!). I am so proud to support Karma Hair Studio! If you have curly hair and you're looking for a stylist, this is the place to go! read more

I recently moved to the Troy area and I was a little nervous about beginning a new relationship with a salon, because you just never know. But based on the reviews, I decided to give Karma a chance. So glad I did! Stephanie was able to identify exactly what my somewhat unruly hair needed to look great. And I enjoyed talking with her so much that the haircut almost seemed secondary. I love styling my hair now - it's so much more well-behaved and looks great! Loved my experience and I'll be back! read more

I went to this new hair salon yesterday afternoon for a color and cut. The view out the wall of windows was fantastic and made a great impression. I have been with my stylist for years and followed her to this new location. She continues to do great work in a very relaxed atmosphere. I can't wait to go back. I really enjoyed my experience, my head massage under warm water, and all the time she took to get it right at a very reasonable price. read more

Love Karma Hair studio!!! They are the best in Troy. Stephanie is friendly, honest and makes everyone feel welcome!

I got a great cut from Audrey. I have a lot of thick straight hair and she transformed it into exactly what I wanted- a modern shaggy look- well blended, piecey, wavy and less bulky. It really looks like the picture I brought! She was great at understanding what I was looking for and taking the time needed to get it there (something I don't always experience when I get my hair cut because it is so thick). The salon in general is also very friendly and relaxed and they have really good magazines like Kinfolk and Oh Comely, as well as tangerines and Tulsi tea in the waiting area which was like icing on the cake. read more

I highly recommend Karma studio. Not only does it has the best view of monument square in Troy it's such cute salon right above the art center in Troy. Steph just gave me a fantastic ombre and cut. You can tell all the stylists really love what they do and care about each other. A true a gem in Troy. read more

So happy to find stylists who know how to cut curly hair! Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Great products!

I had my first visit to Karma today, and will definitely be back! Audrey did a great job on my very short, super thick hair. She spent a lot of time getting the choppy textures to look just right, and the result is a pixie cut that looks great now and will keep its shape until my next visit. The products were also wonderful! The salon itself is bright and upbeat, and the enormous window gives a great view of Monument Square. The decor is eclectic and whimsical. I'm so happy to find this gem right in my neighborhood! read more

Lynsay has been the best stylist I've ever had, and I'm so glad I was able to follow her to her new salon. I had my first appointment there today, and Lynsay, Audry, and Stephanie, all very gifted stylists, have created a warm, beautiful, and welcoming environment. They are all so genuine and positive, and they treat their clients beautifully. It's clear they love their work! Even better, they use only natural ingredients. I'll be back! read more

Recently ventured to Karma for the first time and couldn't be happier. I will follow Lynsey and Steph absolutely anywhere. The team at Karma is dedicated to holistic hair care and making you look your best! Audrey has been doing my hair for over a year, but this week was my first cut & color at the new salon. The loft salon is so inviting, you won't want to leave! My visit usually starts with letting Audrey know the direction I'm trying to go - I have very thick, long hair that is frequently rushed through - leaving bulky layers that don't grow out well. I put complete trust in her to decide what she thinks is best, and she never disappoints. She gets each layer just right to be sure the cut is working with my natural waves. After 2 years of brunette-to-blonde ombre I was ready for a change: She gave me a dimensional color I love! Experience the best holistic hair studio the capital region has to offer, while supporting a local business run buy passionate young professionals! read more

Stephanie and Audrey have made my hair visits relaxing and fun at the same time. So much detail to your personal needs are met. Both are knowledgable and professional in the services they provide. The salon is inviting, welcoming and relaxing; just like the name "Karma" would mean to anyone. If you have not been here, you must try it and make up your own mind, you will see what I mean. Prices are more reasonable than other salons. read more

I'm growing my hair out and it is in that awkward stage. Went to Karma based on Yelp reviews as we have just moved. Couldn't have made a better choice. Audrey made my hair look 1000% better. Nice shop, with literally a window on the world of downtown Troy. Will happily return. read more
