I was recently in a wedding where the bride had two hairstylists and one makeup artist from Strut come out to the venue for us. The two girls that did our hair were Micaela and Sarah, and Kaitlin did our makeup. All of the girls were more than satisfied with how their hair turned out. Sarah did some great braid work on two of us, and her and Micaela helped to put flowers all over our hair. That part wasn't planned, but they went with the flow and everyone looked great. Kaitlin's makeup looked excellent on everyone, even the girls who were reluctant to get it done for fear of it being too heavy or just not their style. I'd highly recommend them for whatever you need! One piece of advice would be to bring cash since the hair, makeup, and nail services are all separate and have to be paid for as such. read more

I've been a customer of Strut for years, and have transitioned almost all of my beauty services to them. HAIR: Alex and Tina take care of all of my hair needs- cuts, color, styling for events. They are great about recommending products and techniques specific to my hair (and more importantly to me). They know how often I wash my hair, how often I use heat on my hair, and can give me tips that work for my hair without changing my routine too much! If you're a blonde, you must work with Alex. She's got the natural-looking blonde thing down pat! MASSAGES: I also go to Loretta for massages. Not only for a relaxing day at the spa, but also amazing for problems area and my scoliosis! Everyone should give her a try. NAILS: Amy is so sweet and so great at nails. Make sure to book in advance because her chair is always full! SKIN/BROWS/MAKEUP: Finally, Kaitlin, the owner... I don't even know where to start! She knows her clients by name and has a way of making everyone feel special and welcome in her salon. She's brutally honest and will never let you leave without looking AND FEELING amazing! I go to her for EVERYTHING skin and makeup related. She doesn't do these silly "chcololatey foo foo" facials. She deeply cleanses your skin and helps prevent breakouts (which I'm super prone to). For 2 days after I leave, my skin feels so clean that even putting water on my skin seems like I'm making it dirtier! I also go to her for back facials so my back looks great when I show a little more skin! I won't ever trust anyone again but Kait with my eyebrows. There is a reason people call them the #BrayBrow... NOBODY can shape like Kaitlin Bray. I love my brow redesigns so much that I finally ended up having her microblade my brows so they permanently look perfect. I still get touchup redesigns, but the microblading was perfect for a blonde with "clear" eyebrows, like me. I recently got a thin permanent eyeliner, so that my lashes look fuller with mascara. It made a huge difference and my super picky fiance who hates makeup didn't even notice for several months that I had gotten it done! I actually just finally "came clean" and told him last weekend, and he was shocked! Lastly, GO TO KAIT anytime you want to look like a super model. Kait is so insanely talented with makeup. The way she blends color... it's ridiculous and truly a form of art. When I leave her salon to head to a wedding or other party, I am always so impressed that my makeup looks so good and it LASTS until I take it off at night! I can't say enough about her other than the Capital Region is lucky to have this level of talent... Kait belongs in NYC or LA doing working on the rich and famous. WILL NEVER GO BACK. I recently moved to the area and found this salon. It looks upscale and pretty so I gave it multiple chances. On my first visit for a root touch up and trim, the stylist did not match my root color well, and the trim was literally 2 seconds; she didnt even cut into my layers. Shortly after, she quit, which should have been a red flag. I was then given to someone else. She did a better job on my roots, so we talked about a balayage. She told me she was confident with them. I explained I wanted lowlights too to break it up, as I was too blonde. The photo below is the AFTER. For $170 that blotchy mess is what I got. She screwed up the highlights so she slapped more perm color on top, creating that awful reddish hue. I should have refused to pay right then and there, but i think I was in shock. I would have rather been told that she wasnt comfortable with that service than given this. When I left the salon, she had curled my hair and taken well lit, placed pictures. This picture is with my hair rough dried and straight. Curls cover the mess, which is prob why she curled it. Lesson learned. Moral of the story, a pretty salon doesnt mean talented staff. And the receptionist could use an attitude adjustment too. read more

Loretta is still amazing. Jacqueline is an amazing stylist. I loved, loved loved my hair! I was sick of highlights upkeep so she dyed my hair back to my natural color. It's been about 2 months since and you can't see ANY roots, it's a perfect match. She definitely knows what she's doing. Just had to add- I was there for a massage this week, and a woman left crying (with joy!) she was so happy with what Jacqueline did. And I'm not affiliated with Strut in any way other than giving them lots of my money, though a discount would be nice every now and again ;-) The salon will be crazy booked if you wait until the last minute to redeem a Living Social offer, since there are hundreds of people also waiting until the last minute. Moral of the story, if you bought a Living Social, use it right after you buy it, don't wait until the week before it expires. read more

I have been to Strut twice now for Devacurl haircuts, and I couldn't be happier! Maria is my stylist. She was recommended to me by a friend of my mom's because we both have extremely curly hair and this is what Maria specializes in. If you have curls, I'm sure you know what a nightmare it can be finding a hair stylist who knows how to deal with them, let alone do them any justice. Maria is specially trained in the Devacurl method, which is completely centered around the unique needs and characteristics of curly hair. She tends to cut my hair dry, which I like because then I have an idea of how short it will be in the end (unlike when it's cut wet and springs up about half a foot.) She spends time on each curl and uses the Devacurl brand shampoo, conditioner and gel to style my hair. I'm pretty picky about what I put in my hair (I only use organic, chemical-free products) and Devacurl is one of the better (though not completely chemical-free) salon brands for hair health, so I appreciate this. This particular kind of haircut and style takes a pretty long time -- usually about 45 minutes to an hour -- between the precision cut and all of the styling, scrunching and curl separation, so it doesn't seem crazy that Maria's haircut/style can cost $30-$40. The best part is that my hair always grows out beautifully when she cuts it, so I can go two months or so between cuts, which makes it more economical for my (ultra slim) wallet. Oh, I forgot to mention that Maria's personality is amazing! She's so funny, easy going and just ...Real. I am kind of a weirdo and have had so many awkward times just sitting in stylists' chairs not having anything to talk about. This is never the case with Maria, who makes it feel like more of a catch-up session with a friend than a necessary chore. I'm getting married this summer and plan to have my hair and/or makeup done by the ladies at Strut. There isn't much else I have nailed down in terms of wedding planning, but I feel super confident that at least I'll look fantastic if these talented ladies are involved. :) read more

Used a Living Social coupon to get a 60-minute deep tissue massage with Loretta. I was pleasantly surprised by the massage...she is strong and does work to get those knots out. Worst experience in strut spalontique. Kerry legget did my hair. She did not cut at all good. I explained her that this is the way i want my hair still she did not do that way. Kaitlin and her team are amazing. I have been using services at Strut since it opened. My eye brows have never looked better thanks to Kaitlin and I no longer even think about a tweezer (which is a god send). Kaitlin's facials are also an essential part of my skin care regiment. Any time I feel like my skin has lost its luster I rush right over to Strut. I recently needed photos for my website and went to Strut for a full day of pampering. I am really not one for giving bad reviews. If I have nothing nice to say I generally say nothing at all. I have mitochondrial disease, which makes life hectic, and also does not afford me the opportunity to get my hair done very often. I reached out to this salon for help in setting up an appointment and answering my questions. I did not expect a hand out or anything free, just some genuine help and kindness in regard to getting my hair done. I reached out to the salon on March 31rst. I have been going back and forth trying to have questions answered, simple questions, like how long the appointment will be so I know what medications I would need and or if the appointment would be doable. I had spoken first with Randi one of the salon owners , who assured me that Jacqueline the hair stylist would get back to me. After weeks of not hearing from anyone I did get a call, but I was in the hospital ER and could not answer the phone.When I returned the call I was told I would receive a call the next day. When I didn't receive a call three hours past the time specified I called and was told that Jacqueline was busy and I would receive a call back. Again I didn't receive a call. I reached out via FB message, which is how I had been corresponding for the most part and did not receive a message. I called the salon and spoke to Katie the other salon owner, who told me that I wouldn't be able to use my groupon with Jacqueline. After I advised her I was advised I could she went to look at the schedule and told me for what I want done that I would not get an appointment until June. I was upset with that. My hair is very long and it is difficult for me to brush through it, I first reached out to the salon at the end of March, and felt that was too long to have to wait for a hair appointment because I had already been waiting for so long. I was told that Randi or Jacqueline would call me back. I was called while my daughter was recovering from having had tooth surgery, and I couldn't answer the phone at that very minute as I was medicating her. I called back within an hour of receiving the call, and let Randi know it was me who was calling. She didn't ask me anything or talk to me about anything we had discussed previously, just said that she would have Jacqueline call me back when she wasn't busy. This was about three days ago. I still have not been contacted by Jacqueline or the salon. I have very limited energy due to my illness, and I have to say I really do not appreciate being jerked around. I have spent a lot of time going back and forth simply trying to get a hair appointment so I can have my hair done. I have now wasted one and half months going back and forth with a salon that I guess never had any intention of doing my hair to begin with. If they did have intentions of doing my hair, they could have facilitated this in a much more professional, courteous and timely manner. I would not recommend this salon, and will be letting friends and family know what happened to me. read more

I am obsessed with this Salon. I started coming a year ago when I had Kaitlin do a makeup trial, looking for a potential makeup artist for my wedding. I had gone to two other popular makeup artists in the Capital Region for trials previously, but immediately after Kaitlin began I knew she was doing my makeup for the wedding. I booked her right then for my wedding that was over a year away. After that I was booking appointments at Strut. monthly. Kaitlin has been giving me facials and doing my brows and I've never felt better. Kaitlin recommended Jacqueline to do my hair. Once I booked Jacqueline for a cut and color, I was in love with her work as well. Jacqueline is insanely talented (although I hope she never fully realizes this so she doesn't move to NYC and start charging $500 for haircuts) and she always does what is best for your hair, not necessarily what will make her the most money. For example, she'll just touch up my roots and give me a future date when I should do highlights again. Every other salon I've gone to would just highlight my full head every appointment charging me an arm and a leg. I had another hair salon booked for my wedding hair, but when I started seeing Jacqueline I canceled with them and booked her. Amy has done my nails multiple times and they always look impeccable. She also will do a fun glittery statement nail, which I just love. She has a bubbly, fun personality that just makes getting your nails done that much more a "girl time"... I'm not affiliated with Strut. other then the fact that I am in there all the time. The salon is very clean and beautiful. I never write reviews, but Strut deserves all good press!
