I am beyond amazed by this salon. Penny and Tonya are miracle workers, and made me feel alive again. My hair tangles into huge boulders of knots, and in two hours, almost all the knots are gone. I have made two wonderful new friends, and am blown away by their dedication, and sweetness to me as l was struggling with a very complex hair issue. They definitely put the customer first, because they CARE, about your well being. I needed a haircut in a tight time frame, so I made an appointment here despite having a negative experience for a hair styling appointment a couple of years ago. If I had not had that bad experience, this would be a 4 star, maybe 5 star review. But I am moderating it based on what I experienced in the past, while keeping an open mind for raising it in the future. Rosibel was my stylist for my haircut. She did a great job all around. My shampoo was relaxing, I could see her focused on getting my hair right while she did the actual cutting, and her blow dry styling was wonderful. Even my husband noticed, and he doesn't really pick up on that stuff. I was so happy with how my hair looked, it felt like a shame that I was just going home, haha. Went in for a curl cut, came home with no more curls. Nice people but this is no curly cut.

It's taken me a long while to warm up to the salons of Albany. Oh, why, you might ask. Basically, because I'm a horrible elitist, and I would wait until I visited home (i.e., Portland, Oregon) to patronize my favorite hipster rock-'n'-roll barbershop, Bishops. Essentially, they were the only ones I trusted to touch my hair. And they were cheap. Granted, I tried a few salons in Albany. I went to an Aveda. I went to some place in Saratoga. And all in all, I was never really happy with the results. So I kept on waiting to go to Bishops for my edgy 'dos. Enter Hair Razors. I started going there after noticing that a bunch of people from Albany Crossfit were getting their hairs did there. And their hairs did look quite awesome. My first experience there was great. April (who's my one and only hairdresser now!) was familiar with using the vibrant dyes that I was using at the time, and gave me a great cut. So I went back. And then she started putting in extensions. And my life has never been the same! First of all, April is a genius with the shears. I have NEVER gotten a bad cut from her. I'm fairly anal about my hair, and I trust this woman completely. I even started getting A-lines again because April is a person who WON'T F*CK IT UP. Seriously. I can't tell you how many times I walked into a salon, asked for an A-line, and walked out with a head of mangled and bad hair. April is exceptionally good at what she does (hell, the woman's studied hair dressing in Paris), and from what I can tell, so are the other ladies who work at Hair Razors. April is also an expert with hair extensions. I'd never had extensions before coming here, but apparently they take serious skill to cut correctly. Check! Not only are they fun and add volume to my hair, but they come in a variety of great colors and don't fade. I said buh-bye to constantly bleaching and dying my hair once I was introduced to these. Basically, I'm feeling pretty sharp these days. A lot of that has to do with my hair. I don't live near Schenectady, but Hair Razors is DEFINITELY worth the drive. read more

I can't say enough great things about Penny Williams & her hair salon. Penny's been doing my extensions for years now, and I can't imagine letting anyone else even touch my hair! As soon as you walk in you feel the creative ambiance. The atmosphere and decor of the salon is inspiring within itself. Above all, it's the expertise, and genuine passion that makes Penny and her salon so brilliant. I naturally have short, curly and very challenging hair. Penny is literally able to transform my hair with extensions. The way she is able to blend my own hair with extension hair is simply amazing. Penny is a master stylist & it's very apparent in her work. Penny's passion for her business is another reason she's a notch above the rest. Amazing is all I can say, after looking at many different places I picked Hair Razors to do my wedding on 9/16/2017. I could not be happier. We had our own private area, I like to refer to as a suite. It started the day off perfect, Penny had every detail covered down to the perfect music to get the day started. With Penny leading the way my bridal party was transformed. All of the hairstyles lasted all day and all night long and the makeup never changed even on a hot day, and what seemed like ten million pictures. Penny, the owner, and her staff are wonderful. As another yelper posted, the staff go out of their way to accommodate client schedules. There is positive energy in this place and the staff talk and share good stories, no negative gossip or complaining. Newbies are welcome and if you came in from a referral you & your referral get rewarded! They listen to what you want and work carefully to make sure your vision works with theirs. I get highlights that are so natural looking I went 6 months before I felt I needed them touched up. Every client has their profile saved, so 6 months later I was still in the book and ready to roll. Of course I was consulted that I wanted the same. I see men, young ladies, children and mature women there when I go in. All seem happy with their experience. read more

I've been seeing Penny for 8 or 9 years and I can honestly say I've never left her salon disappointed in the slightest way. I was very nervous straying from my normal Salon down on Long Island but I needed to get my hair dyed and couldn't travel 4 hours to do so. I yelped salons in the area and I chose this salon. I am so happy that I did!!! Excellent service and attention to detail. She matched my existing color where there was regrowth and I think improved my existing color. She (Tonya) offered to work with my crazy work hours so that I could come back for a glaze in a couple of weeks. I cannot rave about my experience enough! Highly recommend! I am a guy in my 60s who is FINALLY beginning to realize that improving one's physical appearance doesn't just happen by itself, and when it comes to hair, sometimes a regular barbershop or even those franchised hair salons you see at the strip mall won't necessarily get you to your goals. If you are trying to move toward a new look, you need to have a seasoned professional to help you along. On reading a review from another guy on this site, I thought it was worth it to try Hair Razors out. I made an appointment with Dani, one of the stylists there, and explained that I had been growing my hair out for many months and needed a cut that would support further growth and length. It had been many, many years since I had long hair, and also I wanted to experiment with different styles, and didn't want to risk being at the whims of someone with scissors who could undo months of growth in five minutes, just to save a few bucks. I realized that choosing the right salon was very important, so after a bit of reading several reviews about local salons, I ended up here. I am glad I did. The experience at Hair Razors went well beyond my expectations. I really ended up being delighted with the level of care and expertise given at every step. I got a great cut that looks good to me even if it gets windblown, but it got better. I also thought to ask Dani if there was anything that could be done to make my eyebrows visible again (the grey on my brows along with my blonde hair had lightened them to the point where they were shapeless and nearly invisible) and Dani suggested using a bit of dye to darken them slightly, along with a little waxing to help with their shape. My concern of course was that I didn't want it to look like I was wearing brow liner, but basically wanted to enhance what was still there to appear as my brows once did, and Dani got it. We took the dyeing process in several steps. Each time she handed me the mirror, I encouraged her to go a little further, until I felt my brow appearance was restored close to what it had been. Frankly, I was shocked at how such subtle changes could make such a big difference, but I guess being a guy sometimes has its "blind spots". At the end of an hour, I was both surprised and delighted with the result. You could not ask for better service, and Dani earned my trust immediately. We booked the next appointment, 8 weeks ahead. I think that says everything. Guys, if you are brave enough to consider that you might benefit from a proper hair salon and are looking for something beyond the usual barber shop experience in hair styling, be it men's style, something trendy, or even a more traditionally feminine style, look no further. These folks are amazing, friendly, and committed to you looking your best, and will work with you to figure it out. Overall, it was a pretty motivating experience for this old guy, and after countless "just OK" experiences in life, I rarely hand out 5 stars to anyone, nor do I take the time to write and edit a review, but Hair Razors certainly earned both from me. read more
