My experience was a total disaster because I didn't go with Ulmer. I was supposed to be at Ulmer for a tire replacement but I changed my mind last minute and go to Sam's instead. Somehow Sam's managed to put on a wrong size of tire and messed my differential up. I went back to Ulmer to get estimate for the repair, and Steve was so helpful as always, he's not only help me deal with Sam's insurance company but also went extra miles as putting new batteries in my key fob without me even asking. Our daughter's car overheated while driving on the highway. As we are almost four hours away, we were at the mercy of Yelp and Google reviews. We had the car towed to Ulmer's and received excellent service. The problem with the car was a result of a previous repair at a different shop (near home). Brian at Ulmer's helped us with pictures and video of the problem caused by the previous repair. They also squeezed her car into their busy schedule and got it done in a reasonable amount of time. Always get a 2nd opinion from a TRUSTED person if you choose to use Ulmers. They told me there was blown head gasket on a recently purchased used truck. This caused me heaps of unnecessary stress with the dealership. Turns out their diagnosis was 100% B.S. I had 3 other mechanics look into it - complete scam. I had been a customer for years prior - now I question everything they ever did. Its been 20000 miles since...motor is strong as ever. read more

Not sure where they hire mechanics from but I would not recommend this place. My wife took her Jeep in for some clutch work and before they began they needed to remove the gear shift knob. Please see the pictures for the damage that they did to it. They could not get a simple gear shift knob off. They damaged it. They then told her it had put "a few scratches on it". Seriously, looks like an alligator attacked it! So not only could they not get the gear shift knob off and they damaged it, they also could not do the repairs and charged her $200+. Never will we return to this sham of a mechanic!!! you are warned! read more

They consistently do good work at fair prices. We had an oil sensor and oil seal issue that took several visits to pinpoint and resolve. After the initial work, they never charged us for the follow up checks and eventual seal replacement. Communication and customer service is excellent. read more

Meh, not a fan. Have used Ulmer's twice for two different cars. First time the car wasn't fixed and the bill was hefty. Second time I was in for an oil change. Took a long time to complete & a phone call that we needed a list of other things as well. Just seemed like a very typical way of upcharging. Number 1 problem here is the price. Tried to give them a chance because they're local but we will continue any future work at our dealership and save a tooooooooon of money (even with coupons). Nice people, always busy. Just not a fit for us. If you want super nice customer service that is pricey, Ulmer's is your mechanic. read more

Received an estimate and video showing the problem via email. Received a follow-up phone call shortly after to go over the estimate, explain the time frame and get approval to move forward. Vehicle was repaired as estimated, with no extra costs. FYI, I took the vehicle to Wyler Eastgate service for the same problem 6 or 7 months ago and they quoted me almost $10,000. Granted, I don't know much about cars, but I have never felt that they were talking down to me. I had a tire emergency recently and they got me in and out (it was just before they were closing) in about 30 minutes. They patched the hole in my tire and since i was bringing my car in for something else the next week, they let me pay for that patching on the next bill. read more

It might seem strange to highly rate a place where I wind up spending a lot of money on boring things like auto repairs, but they are so good that I almost don't even mind. I have heard around town that Ulmer's is typically somewhat more expensive than other nearby shops, and while that may be true, the fact that I know I'm going to get an accurate estimate, a straightforward explanation, and a solid repair is money in the bank, to me. I've never had to bring my van back because a repair was done incorrectly, and they have never come back with a price higher than their initial estimate. They always assure me that if they did find something else during the repair that they'd call right away to key me in on any additional cost. They also always give me info about repairs I should be anticipating down the road (this latest time they told me about some parts in my suspension system that are showing their age, which is completely reasonable on an 11-year-old vehicle, but assured me I could hold off a bit longer). Beyond knowing their way around a car or two, they are also just extremely nice. They know no one is excited about unexpected auto repairs, but they don't add to that stress by giving you the runaround or trying to constantly upsell you on unnecessary services. They keep in touch with you throughout the process, and as a woman, I greatly appreciate that none of the people here have ever talked down to me (a very common experience at repair shops). We were all packed for a 10 hour road trip. Car top carrier on, dog in crate, kids strapped in...then the car wouldn't start! Ugh. Stopped in for an easy fix: Ford F-250 had two low tires. I'm handicapped and can't use a tire air hose. There was a guy at the front desk - turned out to be owner's son, Bryan Kauffeld - who greeted me with a surly disposition. I told him what I needed, and why, and he asked me which two tires. I said I wasn't sure - the two flat ones, I guess. The guy flipped out and started yelling at me! "I will not be treated like an idiot!" and blah blah blah. I told him never mind, and the man a block away was able to help me in three minutes. Easiest 20 bucks he ever made. I will NEVER bring my 3 vehicles back to Ulmer's! We miss you, Bruce! read more
