I called today and asked for a quote for a thermostat replacement. I gave the year, make and modal of the car. Phil told me I needed to know what type of engine I have. I called right back with the information (someone else answered the phone) I gave all the information asked but was refused a quote. I was told, and I quote, "If you were just calling around for prices, we're not going to be the cheapest BY FAR." Who in the Sam Hill says that?!?! And when I asked, "may I have a round about cost?" I went to this location after driving twenty minutes and having an appointment scheduled over the phone. when I arrived the person didn't look at me until I eventually spoke after awkward silence, said there was no appointment and that we "were fine" as though we had inconvenienced him and he got out of his chair and dead eyed me. After receiving nothing but rudeness and contempt from this person (the guy who is inspecting under the hood in the yelp review photos), I admittedly and deservedly called him a ahole as I walked out. I was in Milford for family and needed a vehicle checkup before a cross country trip for a new to me vehicle: brake wear check, coolant flush and oil change. I found this business on Yelp for independent shops and they were walkable, though they do have a complementary shuttle. They were communicative, caught a small item that even a mechanically knowledgeable car owner would never catch, and did a good job at a reasonable price. After, I drove that vehicle 3000 miles cross-country through wireless-free zones with no problems. Thanks Ulmer's! They have a few long term vintage car projects. Keeping a car alive in its last years or past its last years of frame deterioration with road salting, though mechanics are good, or a complete engine rebuild is *not* what they do. They use original manufacturer parts so they can guarantee their work. They are popular, so you may need to wait a few days for an appointment. They got my car out from the appointment on schedule, actually a few hours early. If you need routine maintenance they are a good shop. They are a great choice in the Milford, Terrace Park and Indian Hill area. How many years they have been in business tells a story! read more

Elmers has been my go to car repair place for at least 15 years and possibly 20. Even with the expanding that they're doing now they still give the same service they have always given. Yesterday I went in with a tire that was leaking. We found out I had hit a pothole, bent the rim they found somebody who could straighten the rim rather than having to purchase a new one. Unfortunately, I also had to buy a new tire. But I can always trust that Ulmers will tell me the best and least expensive way of doing things. read more

We moved to this area about 18 months ago. Shortly after arriving our 2003 Lexus SUV had starting issues. I found Ulmer's through online research and they repaired the car at a very reasonable price. They also did a courtesy inspection of that vehicle which I found very comprehensive. In short, they saw three items that needed to be addressed, one relatively soon (front brakes) and the other two were just if we wanted the car to run a little better (value cover gaskets leaking and front stabilizer links). I was impressed with the work done and the free, thorough check-up so I started having them do the repairs. I spread them out to spread the costs. I got our car back last week after the final fix (valve cover gaskets) and I can't help but smile every time I drive that car now! Alex, Cody and the rest are a pleasure to deal with. They even gave me rides home a few times. The folks at Ulmer's are what I'd refer to as 'Friendly Professionals'. They are VERY expensive. I had my brakes done there in 2/17 - cost me over $1,100! Started having an issue with my brakes in 9/18, took my vehicle back to have it checked (after all, it had only been a year & a half since they did my brakes). They reminded me they had only done the FRONT brakes. Then I remembered how upset I was with them the first time around. ELEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for pads, rotors, and calipers on the FRONT END ONLY. Shopping around I found the highest average price to replace rotors & discs is $514, the highest average price to replace calipers is $309, totaling $823, almost $300 less than what Ulmer's charged me. They charge almost $65 for an oil change. As I said, VERY EXPENSIVE! read more

I can't believe this place doesn't have more recommended reviews! I have had the worst time with car repair shops in the past. All of the cliche things that they do tend to be true (up-charging and fixing things without permission, etc.). Well I've never had a problem at Ulmer's! These guys are legit and they have incredible prices. I drive a car that requires a lot of special attention and their prices fall right in line or sometimes are cheaper than the specialists. I have been going here now for over two years and I won't go anywhere else as long as I'm in the Cincinnati area. I took my car in to get fixed and when I picked it up it was running worse than when I dropped it off. So after dropping over 700 they tell me that I need 500 more in repairs minimal. Dropped it off the first time with one problem picked it up and it had five new problems. I thought I would support a local business when I took my car to ulmers but I learned my lesson. read more

No second chance for these guys. I was looking for an alternative to the dealer and found this business via internet search. I e-mailed and Dwain responded quickly enough indicating the business has expertise and would provide a loaner vehicle so I could drop my car off and go about my business. He recommended "bumper to bumper" so I set an appointment. I had to re-arrange a couple of appointments so I could get over to the Milford location in the A.M. on 10/18. But, when I showed up, they had no record of my requiring a vehicle to use. I don't know why, since Dwain acknowledged my request in an earlier e-mail but, bottom line they wasted my time. Nice enough people and said "we'll make it up to you". But, since this was my first experience with Ulmer's, there will not be that opportunity.
