Jacobs has serviced all of my vehicles since 1986 just 3 years after I moved back to Cincinnati area. I needed someone who had the integrity and equipment and training to work on vehicles that I could no longer handle due to all the electronics. Jacobs was recommended to me and after a couple of visits I learned that I was getting thorough reviews and then some extra tips about what to watch out for in coming months. I have never been overcharged, I have always been treated fair, when problems came back (infrequent) they were handled without question (except helping to diagnose the issue at hand). When I need to get my car in for a repair I can always write a letter about what I need done, call the current owner Tom who maintains the integrity of Jacobs operation, and drop my cars off and the keys in the drop box. I could not be happier with their service they are a hidden treasure on the east side. I almost hate to put this in for fear of block myself out of service time. Made appointment for a Wednesday morning. Dropped my car off the night before. Blower motor not working, top radiator hose/connector was broke and oil change. Told them i think it might me a short somewhere in the wiring. Received excuses for 3 days, why they couldnt get started on my car. That friday, told them i needed my car, or i would need to take it elsewhere, as i had to work on Monday. Ended up getting a rental car/additional $200. Charged $1000 for so called repairs. 2 fuses replaced, radiator connection replaced, oil change complete. Brand new blower motor shorted out. Quoted additional $350 to replace blower motor. Didnt have money. Replaced it myself. 2 Days later, blower motor went out again. Called them, was told all wiring was checked. IT WAS NOT. Bring it back in. No thank you. Took it to Steves Car Care, by Buckwheat road. Wiring harness was bad, shorting out the resistor and new blower motor. Jocobs DID NOT offer anything to fix THEIR mistake. Cost me an additional $740.00. I do NOT recommend this place. read more

We were patrons of Jim Jacobs and now of the current owner Tom. All 3 of our cars have been serviced by Tom. Where else can you have a free diagnosis? The dealer charges about $70 to put it on the computer analyzer. If there are several ways to repair the car, such as machining a part or buying a replacement, they let you decide. I find that Jacobs Auto is almost always the cheapest place for repair, the job is done correctly, and if a part under warranty fails, then it's repaired for free. BTW, I've only had a part under warranty fail once there. read more

$205 for a coolant bypass hose replacement seems high. I checked online for average costs, and nowhere was more than $155. Shops have charts they are supposed to use for repair costs, but I think this was more than the charts suggest. The shop does tell you cost before the work, but after I had to arrange a friend to pick me up at the shop, leave my car for two days (which meant not working for two days), if I had taken it to another shop, that's another ride to pick me up and maybe another two days. I was told they had to order the hose from the dealer. But a couple of years ago when the hose was last replaced, I bought it at a local auto parts store for less than half what I was charged for the 'dealer'. My charges at Jacob's: $26 hose, $15 shop supplies, $28 coolant, $122 labor. The hose was replaced, and my car isn't overheating any more. But I won't be back. read more

I've been taking my car to Jacobs since I was 16 and my parents have been taking their cars even longer. Even though it is no longer run by Jim Jacobs, Tom Hulefeld the owner works the same way - he doesn't oversell you on services. Even when I had free oil changes from Toyota I found it faster to call Jacobs, get an appointment and drive to Milford than to the dealer where I often spent 90 minutes on just an oil change. At Jacobs, I'm in and out in about 20 minutes. Plus, I know that if I have any questions about upcoming services, they will help me figure out a time to get them scheduled. read more

I no longer live in Cincinnati, but this past time my car needed work, I brought it in town to have it fixed by a mechanic that I trust. I'd had my oil changed and brakes replaced at Jacobs, so when I had a slight vibration when entering the highway, I trusted them enough to take my Acura to them to investigate the problem. When they called a day later, they told me I needed a new front axel shaft (understood) and a new clutch. The latter was extremely surprising to me, as the clutch was operating perfectly before I took it in. In fact, I have driven nearly 600,000 miles with my four previous manual transmission cars and never, ever, had a problem with any clutch. I picked the car up and drove it home and I felt as though it wasn't my car. The transmission was slipping in nearly all the gears and it was practically undriveable. It also smelled of burning rubber when I parked it. I had taken my daughter to the dentist a few days prior and driven to downtown Cincinnati two days before. If the transmission had even slightly been slipping I would have never driven the car to those places. When I called Jacobs and told them this, they refused to take any responsibility for the clutch problem. Clutches wear out gradually; they do not go from working perfectly to being trashed during a test drive unless the car was abused by the technician. Both the Acura dealer and an out-of-state mechanic friend told me that. In fact, the Acura dealer told me he had never heard of that happening to any cars that quickly unless the person driving car was reckless. Clearly, in an attempt to diagnose the vibration problem when accelerating, their technician blew out my clutch. I will never take any of my cars to Jacobs for any reason, and I would strongly advise my friends and family to avoid taking their car to Jacbos Auto. read more

Took my wife's van to have the check engine light looked at and see what was going on. Tom called later in the day and told me it was low on antifreeze so I approved him to do a pressure test. He found out a part he had replaced a year and a half ago had gone bad and was causing the antifreeze to leak out slowly. That part was NOT under warranty. When I got the bill, Tom didn't charge me! Although no warranty on the part, he stepped up and repaired it no charge - no charge for the pressure test, no charge for the labor to replace it, no charge for the part. We have used Jacobs for years. The last couple repairs have needed return visits. The last major repair, I also got a quote from the dealer and saved almost $1,000. The dealer didn't do everything Tom quoted but the car is working great so apparently all wasn't required. Kind of lost my confidence in the shop. read more

I drive an older suv that's needs repairs every once in a wile. I blew a wheel bearing near Jacobs Auto. I had never been there before but took a shot to avoid a tow. I'm sure glad I did. I dropped it off unannounced about 4 in the afternoon. Befor the day was over they had found the problem and called. They did a great job explaining the issue and gave me a estimate. They were not sure if one part needed to be replaced or not. If it did it would be 75 dollars. The next day hey finished the job and came in right on budget. In conclusion I felt they were honest and treated me as a Vip. Next time my car breaks I know I will see them again. Thanks read more
