UlavacharU opened 4 months ago where Royal Thaili was. Same infrastructure, same seating. Same large parking lot. The biggest draw is thalis, same as before. The difference is the constant patronage now versus none before. Greeted warmly soon after entering. Assigned a table. Ordered when I was ready. Also, Goan cooking is in da house. Look for spicy fare. Couldn't decide. So ordered from menu. Food came in 12ish minutes. Offerings (Southern India): appetizers, breads, tandoori grills, chicken, vegetarian, thalis, goat, sides, egg/rice specials, drinks, desserts, Hyderabadi dum ka du biryanis, add ons. Buffet on fridays & weekends. Special thalis on special days.. Bites: goat rogan Josh (14.99) Kashmiri curry ish -base of yogurt, spices, onions, garlic. Complex mix of cardamon, cinnamon, chilies, fennel seeds, dried ginger powder. Has slightly intense heat. Cut heat by eating it with garlic naan, white basmati rice. Was able to handle heat. *goat meat very tender, moist, almost falling off bone. Unlike other Indian eateries. Garlic naan (3.49) baked. Size of personal pizza. -fluffier than the usual. Not flat, made with cilantro, garlic, butter. Semi-crunchy/soft. Soaks up sauces. Basmati rice-fluffly, good for cooking hot sauces Sips: Chai (comped) -unsweetened Indian tea with milk. Great with India food. Slurps: Rice pudding dessert (comped) Kheer? -small dish of hot boiled rice with coconut bits, sweetened condensed milk, rose water? Taste soothing & refreshing after hot entree. 5 stars Worthy! Quantity: fresh, made to order Quality: Great!

Nice new addition to the Indian food scene in Pleasanton. Visited with former colleagues yesterday. We were the only customers when they opened at 11:30, and the crowds didn't start arriving till 12:15 or so, which meant we had the place all to ourselves! We tried the following: - cut mirchi appetizer. This was very good, and served with chutney and curry. It set the tone for a delicious meal. - goat vindaloo. Excellent. It had the right amount of tanginess from the vinegar, and was made by their Goan cook! - lassouni saag paneer. One of my favorite dishes - the garlic was subtle, but noticeable. - railway egg curry. A staple of railway stations all over India, this brought back childhood memories. - bread basket (garlic naan, butter naan, onion kulcha). This was very good value. Service from Roy was very good. Bill was a little over $75 after tax and tip. Will be back for sure, to try some of their fish dishes now that l know their cook is from Goa!

Not impressed with the food. The chilli chicken was saucy without any taste. The malai kofta sauce was good but the kofta itself was dry and tasteless. The chicken biriyani was tasteless. I have tried Ulavacharu in other places but this one in Pleasanton did not impress me at all. The service was quick and ambiance was ok. The server was friendly.

The Lamb Keema Biryani was really good and full of nice flavor. The meat was well cooked and blended perfectly with the rice. It was tasty, satisfying and worth trying again

My favorite Indian restaurant has now opened in Pleasanton, and I had the privilege of attending their soft launch. We've been loyal patrons for years, and their food, service, and ambience have always been consistently top-notch. They've also catered many of our events, and our friends and family have always raved about the experience. From lip-smacking chaats and crunchy starters to scrumptious biryanis and soulful desserts, they truly have it all covered.

It was on the spicier side but a good spice level. One of the employees who I presume was the owner was telling us they are planning many to do hibachi style with a mix of Indian, Japanese, Italian, and American. Hence the grills. Service was fine. It was a bit difficult to get ahold of service at times but in their defense, there was a large party that came in after us. Great for groups!

Walked around the building looking for the entrance. Tripped at least once on uneven payment. Upon entering I was greeted, given a menu, assigned a seat at the bar. Seeing it was a drink menu, I asked for a food menu. After consultation with bartender, I ordered. He gave order to waitress. Never saw him again. 5ish minutes later, waitress came over to inquire what I wanted to drink. "Water" i replied. Water came 12 minutes later with my food. Offerings: South India fare: soup, entrees, salads, entrees, vegetarian, non-vegetarian. Also pasta, India habachi. Bites: Dakshin Chicken Chettinad (18.99) med. Spicy. Small bowl with big spoon -boneless chicken pieces slowly braised in a savory with many spices (garlic, cumin, black pepper, star anise, funnel seeds, kok slaps...), south curry leaves, and coconut. Every bite deliz. -very condensed savory mix with plentiful Unami. Hotness from peppers not chilis. Tandoori garlic naan (3.99) ordered this. Got plain. Tasted plain. Not spiciness. Desired garlic not to repel vampires but to lower my cholesterol. Didn't discover discrepancy till I checked receipt. When finished, I asked the new bartender for bill. He called waitress. She came over and asked can she clear plates? "Ok" I said. She did and disappeared. Asked bartender again for my bill. Decor is lots of bright lites, big dining area, 2 flatscreens tuned to sports. A fish tank with no fish, lots of hanging faux leaves from ceiling & the left wall. 3.5 stars Food wonderful. Service & decor underwhelming. Doubtful repeat.

Came here for a work dinner and I highly recommend (just be ware of spicyness)…read more You can definitely tell there are some new restaurant growing pains (ordering wine bottles was kind of awkward and not well organized but I'm sure they'll figure it out soon) More importantly though, the food. Here's what we had: 1. Nalgonda Mutton Fry - delicious! 2. Guntur Karam Kodi Kebab - literally so tender and so tasty and absolutely fantastic! 3. Kodi Seekulu on sticks - also very tasty and tender but with everything else this didn't stand out 4. Lentil & Vegetable lollipop - for being vegetarian it was incredibly tasty 5. Pachimirchi Kodi pulao - I didn't get a chance to take a pic but also incredibly tasty! 6. Ended with a combo dessert which was fantastic. Honestly kudos to the chef here because I thoroughly enjoyed the food!

Weekends is buffet only for lunch. It was a good option for us as we are a mix of vegetarians and meat eaters, kids and adults. This allows us to taste many dishes without having to order a lot of items. They had setup a large table on one side of the restaurant and this gave us enough privacy to be by ourselves. The service was good but they were refilling the Naans on request. But they cleared our plates and filled water promptly. The food was a good mix and all of us liked it. There were some issues and we pointed it out to the manager and he was appreciative of the feedback. He even offered to give us some samplers to take home. We were already full and so declined. We would definitely go back again if we are in the area.
