Surely one of the best South Indian coastal food in the east bay, and over the years the quality has improved a lot. We have been dining here off late and tried the mutton thali and idli and curd + rice for the kids . The thali was amazing even though the meat quantity was less but the veggie upkari, rasam and other curries and specially the kheer was very good. The idlis were nice and soft . My buddy told me it gets busy, but on this off peak time that we went, the place was only half full. Got sat and ordered a chicken biryani and one of those bread dishes. Forgot the name. Kinda low key disappointed there was no Kingfisher, but it's fine. I could take a break haha. Food came and the presentation was amazing. Shiny gold dishes, super clean, and very inviting. We looked around and noticed almost everyone was eating with their hands. When in Rome.... found the restrooms and it was nice they had a small sink outside just for washing up. Dug into the food. Holy moly. Favor town! The biryani was so amazing, tons of flavor, but wished they threw in more chicken. It was in this pot that kept going on for days inside. I was impressed. We visited this place based on a friend's suggestion and were warmly welcomed by a very cheerful hostess, Shirisha. She took our order with a smile, which is not very common in such Indian restaurants. We were a party of seven and had to wait for about 10 minutes. This is a cozy place with nice decor--we especially liked the copper plates and cups that were set up. I don't know why the reviews are poor. We dined in. Ordered egg dosai, pomfrate fry, and egg kothu paratha. All the dishes taste like authentic South Indian dishes. Egg dosai is amazing, so is kothu paratha. The egg dosai has an inside layer or egg, comes with different chutneys. Kothu paratha comes with a chicken curry filling on the side. The curry tastes very coconut-y. The reason I still think it's five star is because this is someone can ignore if they want. The paratha is delicious by itself. Definitely worth a try. Tried this restaurant for a team lunch and they were able to seat us immediately around 12 pm with a party of 12 people. The staff was very attentive whenever we needed anything from helping split up our dishes so it was easier to share or getting extra cutlery. The restaurant wasn't too loud and the decor inside shows off the history of how dishes used to be cooked. Nethili Fish Fry - This dish was coated with lots of spices which packed it with flavor. It was mainly salty and spicy but with the lime added on top, it helped to cut some of the spiciness and added a nice sourness. Parotta - One of the favorites that I tried. The parotta was very flakey, buttery and crisp on the outside. I liked the texture of different layers and it reminded me of a Malaysian roti. It has a mild flavor and paired really well with the curry we ordered for the table. Aappam - Another side that we had which was a thin pancake that's made out of rice batter and coconut milk where the shape comes from the pan it is cooked in. Also had a mild flavor but was a little sweet which made it a little different when eaten with the curry dishes. Pepper Chicken Curry - The chicken was soft and the dish was rich, peppery and spicy. We got a mild spice level for this dish and the flavors still shone through well. Faluda - This dessert surprised me in the best way. It has basil seeds, rice noodles, jellies and ice cream which was very filling but I loved the different textures from the ingredients and how it all tasted together. Some other dishes my coworkers liked were the chicken lollipop and prawn thokku. It was my first time trying southern Indian food and everything was amazing. read more

Anjappar is my all time Indian food favorite. It's not just your standard Indian restaurant, it is a spicy and intensely flavorful cuisine from the region of Chettinad. As a Pleasanton native, I used to drive 45 minutes to the Milpitas location, so excited to have this new spot in Dublin that is steps away. If I had to rank the Anjappar Restaurants, it would be Milpitas, Sunnyvale, and then Dublin (also the order in which they opened i believe) . The menu gets shorter as we go down the list, but the signature dishes are offered everywhere. I got takeout from Anjappar Dublin, the classics (Chicken Dum Biryani, Chicken Masala, Chappati) were all great. I did try a new item, the crispy crab kotthu parotta. Sadly nothing was crispy about it and unfortunately the crab portion disappeared in just 2-3 bites. For those who haven't tried kotthu parotta, it is a flaky shredded flatbread. It reminds me of Pad Kee mao in some ways, flat fried carbs with protein, just not saucy and with Indian spices. I ordered from Yelp and it was ready for pickup within 20 minutes even during rush hour. Will be back in person to enjoy the ambiance and fancy utensils. read more

Missing items, hung up on, ignored, and no refund offered: Our experience with Anjappar Chettinad in Dublin, CA was extremely poor. Out of 8 items ordered, 2 were missing, after a long drive to the restaurant in heavy rain. When we called to report the issue, staff hung up on us multiple times. We were told we would receive a callback within 10 minutes, but no one ever called. After that, calls from our phone number were ignored entirely. When we called from a different phone number, the call was answered immediately, which felt deliberate. Mistakes happen, but avoiding customers instead of fixing the problem is unacceptable. Because the restaurant made no attempt to resolve the issue or issue a refund, we will be disputing the charge with our credit card company for the missing items. This reflects extremely poor customer service and management. Based on this experience, we will not be ordering again. read more

We tried this new Indian restaurant and enjoyed their spicy, very flavorful food. My boys love meats and we sampled a few dishes and breads. The saucy chicken masala paired perfectly with the aappam. Aappam is made with fermented rice flour which gives it a slightly sour taste. This and its spongy texture made it perfect for soaking up sauce. The boneless mutton roast-aatu kari sukka was spicy and delicious. I could taste the black pepper really enjoyed this dish. The nattu kozhi ghee roast was whole roasted bone in dark chicken pieces. Got food from this place twice in last one month. The food is fresh and flavorful. A bit extra on the spicy level for kids that they need to drink water continuously. It would be great if they cut it down by about 15% in the biriyani and curry dishes similar to Thalapakatti. The ambiance was awesome the interior is well done. The service is average but if they have to give you awesome table service then you need to be ready to pay extra given the current market conditions. For the Ala Carte dishes being around $19 average would be great if they could increase quantity of dishes by 10% to 20%. Recommend keeping the price the same. The only thing good at this place is their uttapam and chutneys. The dosa is mediocre and the sambhar is non edible. It has a weird taste and i have been to this place at least 4-5 times so the sambhar taste has been a constant let down. The staff is really nice and their service is great. The ambiance is nice. Unfortunately, forgot to capture pictures of the Signature chicken masala and the goat biryani, as well as our mango lassi drinks. What IS pictured is one of the fish fry starters and the Chicken 65. We almost ordered the anchovy fish fry, and got the other one instead. We probably would've liked to anchovy fish fry better, and the Tawa Fry is the only thing we wouldn't enthusiastically order again. Everyone in our party of four was advised correctly about what to order based on the comfort level with spice that we communicated to our server. Portions as expected. Two decently-hungry adults per main dish was appropriate with the two "small cravings" dishes to round out the meal. Certainly this is a good choice for later night eating in the area. Very little in this part of the Bay Area is open other than fast food, and they were happy to serve us just after 9pm for a sit-down meal. Dining room was lively with other parties, even at this time of night on a Sunday! This was our second time dining here and we would love to go back for a third. They had great healthy drinks to go with the food. Pomegranate juice was top notch. Thali was great and they had veg and non veg options. Idli / Dosas were super yum. Don't forget to try JigarThanda or the Falooda to finish your meal.
