What I want to know is Uchiko a step up from Uchiba, if so that explains it all. I finally decided to visit and give the 9 course tasting a try. No better way to celebrate a friends b-day. With an early reservation, I was set to take advantage of the happy hour Omakase tasting. Walked in and immediately noted the layout, the restaurant was expansive and laid out nicely. Front of house was prompt in welcoming me and my guest . Walking to the sushi bar I scanned the space and loved the distinct areas and ability to see everyone. Perfect if you enjoy seeing people. We sat down and got to business and I decided I wanted the full feature Omakase over a Manhattan and a specialty dragon fly cocktail. We had some wonderful nigiri pieces with flounder, sea bass and crab. Simply delicious and absolutely fresh and meticulously paired with the perfect oil / juice features. The hot rock Wagyu with my persona light sear exploded in my mouth and then melted over my tongue . There was one dish that was the absolute star and involved pork and a puree'd vegetable along with some other Uchiko wonderfulness. It was like no pork I've had before. I just merely moved my mouth in a chewing motion not even using my teeth. The motion alone broke the pork up into individual little explosions of deliciousness. I have to go back for this dish alone. Be sure to let your chef know your pace, otherwise I feel the different dishes can kind of stack up. I felt a little rushed at first and had to lift my hand as if to say please be mindful and pace us a bit slower. We are here to celebrate and not shovel. That was my only quip! We were here late last year for a family dinner and enjoyed every moment of it. This time it was just me and my wife. We came here for happy hour. But we went out of the way for a six course omakaze (signature tasting)! To make it short, everything was fantastic! We loved the first course: hama chili. The fresh yellowtail sitting on top of tangy orange slices in ponzu sauce. It was visually appealing and appetizing! The salmon handrolls (saki temaki) were stuffed with moist, tender salmon and soft sticky koshihikari rice. The madai and kanpachi nigri was awesome, especially the buttery kanpachi. It looks like red snapper, but it tastes way better! The gem lettuce salad was so beautifully plated beyond my description. Please look at the picture I took:) Then came the star of the show: steak frites. They were grilled medium rare, tender and juicy, accompanied with a handful of golden brown fries. Last but not least, the lychee coconut sundae was a perfect dessert. It was sweet and creamy, with crispy plantain chips and toasty nuts! We were really really happy! I've been here three times so far and loved it every single time. All the ingredients are fresh and the dishes are very well prepared and presented. Some of the sushi items use ingredients such as mushroom and eggplant, which I found somewhat unique. The furikake rice and the karage chicken are some non sushi dishes that I enjoyed. For dessert, I've tried the blueberry dessert and the cereal and milk and both were amazing. I got a $25 coupon in my email after my second visit. I'll be back again soon! read more

Uchiko Austin is quite literally one of my favorite restaurants on the planet and Uchiko Plano did not disappoint abd quickly soaring up my list of favies as well! Beautiful set up. Warm, luxurious and tres tres chic decor and setting. Very welcoming! Service- fantastic. We were off to a terrific start! We were celebrating a friend's birthday, and our server was so sweet to treat us to dessert. After dinner of course- but I had to start with mentioning that first- ha! Food: beyond beautiful. Heavenly. I can't remember the ten million things we ordered but everything was silky satin savory sensational!!! I'm apparently still dreaming about the food. I will mention one suggestion- maybe provide a little soy sauce or seasoning on tables- the furikake rice was a little bland. Needed a little kick- Everything else, literally melts in your mouth- euphoric flavors. Must visit- must taste for yourself. Do not deprive yourselves. Truly excellent meal. Every time. Don't expect big pieces of tasteless metallic strip mall sushi. Granted, those can be ok. But Uchiko's sushi are a little smaller, but packed with exponentially better flavors. Nothing metallic. All fresh. Some fish I've never heard of, but perfectly paired with the perfect topping (lemon, yuzu, wasabi, tamari, strawberry, etc etc). Even the rice is flavored wonderfully. My family will never leave a single grain of rice uneaten, lol. The different cold tastings are all perfectly balanced (Hama chili and yokai berry our faves), and we love the non fish sushi as well (eggplant with a salty sweet miso glaze, brown butter mushroom, melt in your mouth gyotoro). The service is impeccable. They know their stuff. Everyone. Each dish comes expertly explained and they made it themselves. I have no idea how they can memorize so much. Unreal. Our server was so kind she gave us a free tasting of sushi she thought we would like. She was right! Dry aged kanpachi. Wow! And Chef Stefan even came out a delivered a dish, and visited with us (and many other tables) which really was an unexpected and nice touch. This place NEVER disappoints. Upscale sushi and grilled meats (we usually stick with the sushi cuz we love it so much), phenomenal service from the front desk to servers and runners, all in an upscale environment that's also down to earth and not pretentious in the least. From the moment we stepped in we were greeted by a large staff beaming that we've come to experience Uchiko. They are kind and well prepared. We were seated on time and noticed their chic waiting area was is in the middle of the restaurant, I found that to be lively and innovative. The full bar is an obvious difference between Uchi and Uchiko, Uchiko's cocktail menu does not disappoint. Our server worked at Uchi for 3 years and was able to describe menu item differences and provide solid recommendations. With a party of six we did run through the water pretty fast, I believe we asked for more water 3 to 4 times, it did not bug us with the decadent food and drinks throughout the evening. Looking forward to trying their steaks and branzino next round. Congratulations to the team and staff! Uchiko is a wonderful addition to the Dallas food scene. read more

I've been a fan of the Uchi restaurants ever since my first time at Uchiko Austin and I was SO excited for the Plano location to open up! Per usual, the service was phenomenal. I've been twice now and Athena was amazing on my first visit, she expertly suggested new dishes and drinks for my friends and me. On my second time, we celebrated my birthday and I received a signed card when I arrived, such a nice touch! The food is always so delicious and we always have amazing experiences and because each Uchi branded location is chef curated, you could order something you've had before but the flavor profile could be totally different and I absolutely love that. The Hearth here is also so great offering more on the hot side of the menu! It's a bit dangerous that I work across the street because I want to to every day! read more

My boyfriend and I order everything we can from here LOL. I recommended the otoro, flounder, and madai nigiri but truly everything is excellent! Great experience here! Came here for a date night and almost everything we tried was so good. Started with a Japanese whiskey (not me, but my husband loved it) and a pink drink with dragon fruit that was so good. I was worried it was going to be too sweet but it was perfectly balanced. We also ordered a bottle of Prosecco and when they opened it, it completely overflowed and we easily lost an entire glass worth. If they hadn't given us a $30 complimentary dish, we would've said something. Food! Hamachi Chili - my absolute favorite. I LOVED the hit of chili and it paired so well with the orange Brussel Sprouts - I was worried when the description said "fish caramel" but it was not fishy at all. Perfectly sweet and perfectly crispy Pork Belly Kimchi -- not something I'd rave about but glad we tried it Blue Fin Cold Tasting - we actually got this complimentary and it was SO good -- great balance of tuna to sauce Spicy Crunchy Tuna Roll - this might have been my #1. From the looks of it I thought it might be heavy but it was so good and I absolutely loved the sauce that came with it Salmon & Tuna Nigiri & Sashimi -- no major complaints but felt like the salmon nigiri didn't need the yogurt Australian Denver Steak - only 4 oz but very good and very tender Chinese Broccoli -- too heavy on the cream "Milk & Cereal" - this dessert was so good, barely gave my husband a bite I almost ate it all Overall I loved our experience here and we'll be back! read more

The location is fantastic since it's close to folks I visit when I'm in Plano. The Interior and the ambiance very much as an Uchiko meets Dallas vibe with a couched waiting area open to the restaurant. Valet for your car was available, but it was a little confusing figuring out where that drop location was. It's in the alley drive around the corner from the restaurant. The service staff was great but expected since the Hai/Uchi group does such a great job of training to maintain the quality and consistency across their restaurants. While they do course out your order, we noticed that speed was inconsistent comparatively, but that could just be a bit of growing pains as it wasn't that long from opening. Overall the food was good and maintained the same consistency as the others (I've been to nearly all of the Uchi concepts). read more

Five stars again and again. We made a reservation for a Monday night, and the restaurant was packed. Valet is complimentary and is right behind the building. Our server was kind- we opted for the Omakase and started with the Lychee Martini and Citrus Old Fashioned. The Omakase menu was a 10/10. I'm not the biggest sushi fan but I am now!! The flavors and detail was amazing. At one point we had a very long lapse in our next course and cocktail. Our waitress did check on us, and the staff sent over some complimentary items to cover the gap. The wait was at least 20 minutes, but the thoughtfulness to bring something else and acknowledge the wait was more than sufficient. Not the most romantic of places as the seats are shoulder to shoulder, but I would go here again in a heartbeat. read more

Went here for a date night and had a nice time. We got a sampling of various sushi plates, cocktails and dessert. I was undecided on a roll so I asked our server to surprise me. She ended up bringing both with one on the house. Happy hour drink prices are decent. The food was very flavorful however, for the price, the fish (nigiri, sashimi, hand rolls and rolls) was extremely small and about half the size you'd get at a mid-range sushi restaurant. We spent $250 for two people and still left hungry. The tables are also very close together so privacy is limited. I don't need to go back but I'm glad I tried it. read more

Amazing meal at Uchiko, once again Hai Hospitality aims to impress and successfully succeeds. I had the honors of visiting their soft opening and the food met the expectation set by Uchi Dallas. All the food was succulent, flavorful, and fresh. Since it was the soft opening, service did get a bit slow when the kitchen became backed up. They brought out their food individually in the typical manner it is usually brought out at Uchi restaurants, and the service staff did their best to describe every dish. Even though towards the tail end of our order the food took its time to come out (about 20 minutes between dishes) the server tried his best to keep us updated. Friends took us here to experience the newest Japanese restaurant in the bustling Legacy West area. The inside has a moody, dark, slick vibe. We were seated in a corner booth and one of the Chefs came by to say Hi to our hosts, who apparently have been regulars here since they've been open. Our host ordered everything for us to try out. For me, I enjoyed the Ebi Tempura, Kombu Carrots, the Rice with Mushrooms and Wagyu, and the Yellowtail. Authentic, fresh, and balanced. Service was excellent and parking is a breeze with the large multi-story parking garage nearby. If you enjoy Japanese cuisine, Uchiko is worth checking out. read more

So my favorite restaurant in DFW is Uchi in Uptown so when I found out that Uchiko was opening up my way in Legacy West I was so excited. I didn't want to get my expectations up so I was prepared for it to be not as good as Uchi, but let me tell you how glad I am that i was wrong. Uchiko is just as delicious as Uchi and I am ecstatic about it. The hubs and I went there for our 11 year "dating" anniversary and they made it special from start to finish and even included a couple dishes on the house. Walking in, it feels VERY similar to Uchi in Uptown. Similar decor and vibe, but I actually prefer Uchiko's layout better. Foodwise, Every single thing we had there was just out of this world. The flavors and textures are innovative, creative and unlike anything else we've ever had. It feels like we are eating a meal from Top Chef. Some of our favorites (chef's kiss ): - Hama chili - Kanpachi crudo - Koviche - yokai berry - snow crab nigiri - salmon handroll - milk & cereal Wish we could afford to eat here regularly, but we definitely can't. The mood and decor inside is dark and good for a romantic evening out. For my visit here, my friends ordered a bunch of dishes. The standouts for me were the Kinoko Nabe with Gyutoro(Rice with mushrooms and Wagyu), the Hama Chili(Yellowtail), Ebi Tempura(Shrimp), Brussels Sprouts, and the Kombu Carrots. All of these dishes were delicately prepared and tasted super fresh. The Ebi Tempura was amazing, possibly the best shrimp tempura I've ever had and the rice with mushrooms and wagyu was equally delicious and not heavy. Parking can be found in the nearby multi-story parking garage. Our waitress was amazing and provided a top notch experience for myself and our group. I've been to Uchi in Dallas, and Uchiko is just as good. The ambiance is great, and the service is solid. My favorite dish was the scallop--so flavorful! We ordered the omakase, which was a great choice, and sitting at the sushi bar made it even better. I recommend the scallop or the chef's tasting menu. A few minor downsides: the sushi service was a bit slow, with long gaps between dishes. The steak came with fries, but the fries arrived separately and much later, which disrupted the flow of the meal. The gem lettuce was underwhelming and could be skipped. On the bright side, dessert was amazing--the fried milk was perfect! Overall, a great experience with just a few areas for improvement. read more

Here in Plano Tx for business and was looking for a good sushi restaurant. My Lyft driver recommended Uchiko which is in the Legacy Shopping area. Great place to shop with lots of restaurants. I sat at the sushi counter and the chef Raj took great care of me. The wait staff brought out some complimentary small dishes that we amazing. I ordered the inari maki, Ebi tempura, Nasu nigiri and kinoko nigiri all of which were fantastic. Also had the spicy tuna crunch which was some of the best I ever had. The wine selection was great and the staff were attentive. I honestly wished I lived near here bc I would come here quite a bit. The price point was more than reasonable compared to what I pay in Los Angeles. Recommend you come here if in the Dallas area. read more

Ordered the 9-course omakase tasting menu during happy hour. The previous time I ordered this, I though they short-changed me and did not get the full 9 courses. I wasn't paying attention so I let it slid. This time, I was suspicious and took a picture of every course. After 5 courses, they said I had received the full 9, which I did not and showed them the pictures. Had to ask to see a manager multiple times and waited over 20 minutes for Amir to show up. He backed tracked and offered me additional courses as well as a discount on the meal and a gift card for the next time. I wasn't satisfied and asked to speak to the assistant general manager, Haley, who was present at the place. She never came and never called me afterwards ( as the manager said she would). Extremely disappointed by the, what I believe, dishonestly of the place, the poor service, and lack of promised follow-up. I believe they gave me the discounts and gift card just to shut me up, knowing they would ignore the issues and continue their questionable practices. read more

Uchiko Plano's omakase carries a reputation and a price tag ($300) that demands a commensurate experience. What we received fell embarrassingly short of both. The most glaring issue: we were explicitly told we would not be speaking with the chefs during our omakase. Fine.. except every other guest seated at the same bar was having full, engaged conversations with them. Whether this was a policy applied inconsistently or something more deliberate, it soured the entire meal. Omakase lives and dies on that human connection.. the chef's story behind each course, the eye contact when something arrives, the sense that you're being cooked for. We had none of that. The chefs never once acknowledged us. We sat three feet away from people having the experience we paid for, while ours felt cordoned off behind invisible velvet rope. The food itself was competent but uninspiring. Bland flavor profiles with no sense of risk or creativity. exactly the opposite of what you hope to encounter at this price point. Operationally, it was a mess. Dishes arrived out of sequence, wait times between courses stretched on, and drink service was slow throughout. Then came the check: $350 instead of the $300 clearly stated on the reservation. An extra $50 appeared with no explanation. It was corrected before we flagged it, and we received some complimentary items along the way! but a billing error that requires correction and goodwill gifts handed out to smooth things over are not hospitality. They're damage control. The service team, at least, was pleasant! the one above-average element of the evening. For almost $500 after drinks and tip, you're not just paying for fish. You're paying for an experience, a feeling, a story to tell. We left with none of those things. Not mad just disappointed Uchiko :( read more
