Did not enjoy my experience here. My friend had made a reservation here and requested for a seat at the bar in which the lady on the phone confirmed. Came to our 7pm reservation and we were told that the bar was full. Mind you, there were 3 bar tops open, 2 of which were next to each other. When we asked about the 2 seats, she responded saying "oh no, that's not available." We then followed up with saying if we could move there if the other patrons leave, in which she responded that some customers like to linger and take their time at the bar seating. Don't really know about that since there's a 90-minute seating period as per their menu and their Instagram, but sure. We let it go and proceeded to our table. As we were explained the menu and experience, my friend had requested if it was possible for her to not have green onions. The lady told her it was not possible. This is her dietary preference, which is fine, but it does make me wonder if somebody had an allergy or dietary restriction...would they not have made the accommodations? The lady didn't ask by the way, just straight out said no. We were then 2 courses into our dining experience..the male server was about to seat a couple at the table next to us, until one of them asks if they could sit at the bar. The server obliged, and they were able to sit at the 2 bar tops that was open when we first arrived. When asked about this, the only response was "I don't know, I'm sorry." I don't blame this server, he truly seemed like he didn't know. Now onto the food, for $75/pp, the fish was not fresh at all. Our beef tartare was brown. They served a "crab handroll," which was only imitation crab. The cocktails were not tasty as well. Not worth your money at all. Definitely will NOT be coming back. This is probably the best "all you can eat" sushi deal in DFW. As of this review the deal is $75 for ENDLESS Omakase within the limit of 90 minutes. How it works is the chef will serve you the default 15 courses. After it's finished, you have the choice to continue with more handrolls or nigiri. I chose nigiri so the chef made me more. The extra nigiri comes out in sets of 4 pieces each round. I would also like to point out that you do not get to choose what pieces you get, the chef will choose the 4 pieces you will be served. I went 2 extra rounds before getting full. There was still a dessert after the sushi. The quality of the sushi is actually pretty good for basically an AYCE. It's not at the same level as the top notch omakase places in town but for the price point, it's not bad. The one criticism I have is the speed of which the nigiri came out decreased drastically after the first 15 courses were served. It makes me think they were delaying it on purpose to hold back too many orders coming through which hurts their bottom line. If this is not the case then they might need to hire more staff since there was only one sushi chef working when I was there. There's no way one chef will be able to handle all the load if there are a lot of customers. The service was good and attentive. read more

My husband and I chose to celebrate our wedding anniversary here and were excited to try the omakase experience. Social media raved about how good this place was. It's not true. Unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. When we arrived, there was no host at the front to greet us. Despite having a 7:30 PM reservation, we weren't seated until about 15 minutes later. After being seated, we waited another 15 minutes before anyone came by with miso soup but weren't offered water or asked if we'd like to order drinks to start. Throughout the meal, the service felt very disorganized. The staff seemed confused about which courses we had already received, and several dishes were brought out more than once, requiring us to let them know we had already been served those items. The pacing was also extremely slow. What should have been a 90-minute dining experience ended up taking about 2.5 hours. After the 15-course omakase, guests can order unlimited hand rolls or nigiri. Because each order took around 15 minutes to arrive, we had to place our next order as soon as a plate was delivered just to avoid waiting even longer. The fish quality was decent, but not the best we've had. There is no a la carte menu like they advertised. To their credit, the staff recognized that the service fell short and sincerely apologized. They also gave us a 50% discount, which we appreciated. The couple seated next to us had been there even longer than we had and shared that they were also disappointed with the experience. It seems like staffing and service flow need significant improvement. Perhaps this was simply an off night, but based on our experience, it's not somewhere we'll likely return. We ate here to celebrate my son's fiancee's birthday. We had shrimp tempura and edamame appetizers, and everyone enjoyed their meal: tuna and yellowtail sushi, smoked yellowtail (presented in a smoke-filled glass closhe), baked salmon roll, steak bite with sishito peppers, and wagyu fried garlic handroll. We also received a complimentary flaming salmon, which had a dramatic presentation with the salmon hanging vertically over hot stones. The best ayce deal in town. I saw they pop up on my IG feed stating $75 ayce omakase. I was skeptical at first cause it seems too good to be true. But I tried it out anyway cause what more can I lose? But I was wrong, so the omakase consist of 15 courses which Include a soup, one hot tasting, one cold tasting, 10 nigris, 1 hand roll and a desert. After you are done with your 10 pieces sushi, you can order as many of chef choices nigiris come in 4 pieces and unlimited hand roll. All of their nigiri are just as good as uchi, ujo you name it. So I thought the ayce part won't be as good as the initial 10 pieces. But turns out, they are just as good or even better than the initial 10. All I can say is, WOW. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary (it was our first time) and we were absolutely blown away. Service was good although they have a giant wall in the front blocking staff from seeing you, so you have to walk out a bit to get serviced as no one is manning the host stand. Lunch menu was very limited and also very expensive. The sushi lunch bento was $25 and only included 5 pieces of nigiri, seaweed salad, and 3 pieces of shrimp tempura roll (which was shrimp tempura, asparagus, topped with eel sauce), and miso soup. The sushi quality was alright, but the roll was interesting. For $25 I was expecting more and left hungry. Probably won't be back to check them out for dinner. read more

Stopped by yesterday afternoon for lunch for our first time at Hinoki. We ordered various options from the menu, and had quite the delicious experience! Fish tasted very fresh and their sushi rice was incredible as well. Loved our yellowtail dishes a lot. The Inari truffle toro caviar hand roll was probably the standout for me. So much flavor packed into a hand roll. I would have gladly ordered 5 more and been very happy. Service was great as well. Our waiter was very kind and efficient. Our dishes came right after one another and very quickly. He was also kind enough to explain what was in everything we ordered. We were also greeted by the manager near the end of our meal. And it was really nice getting to know her and talk about how great the food was. When we walked in it was pretty empty with only a few other patrons. Which was surprising with the food being so delicious. So I hope more customers are able to stop by experience fresh tasty dishes for themselves. read more

My first time trying AYCE omakase and I was so impressed. All the staff were attentive and sweet. The quality of the my meal was amazing and it was definitely worth the price. My favorite was the sweet shrimp nigiri with truffle sauce. I also love that I never felt rushed or pressured. I enjoyed every bite and the chefs were knowledgeable with every piece they provided. This place was a one and done. I had a rsvp at 8:30 and they sat me at 8:37 and counted the 7min against our 90min eating timeframe. When the omakase experienced started..the food came out super slow. By the time the omakase portion ended, it was 70min onto the 90min eating timeframe. If I could, I would give a 4.5 stars. Ate here on a Tuesday night and would definitely come back. I recommend two things - make reservations at the bar for the omakase as tonight they were not taking any walk ins. And secondly be kind and patient. Restaurant is fairly new and the endless omakase concept is a great one that they are still working through. There's still some delays in the service but not significant. And not taking walk-ins was definitely the restaurant's attempt to lessen the wait, which was appreciated. Ambience is great as well as customer service. We had Elizabeth as our server and she was very sweet and attentive. Sushi chef that tended to us was Mac and he was fabulous. Made us feel well cared for and all in all - we could tell that the staff really wanted us to have a good experience. Have been wanting to try Hinoki since they opened after reading the reviews. Always love trying a new sushi spot. Our server was very friendly. We tried the panko oysters to start. Oysters were good and sauce was tasty. They had a little too much breading and were greasy for my taste, but that's personal preference. I think I prefer raw oysters. They were accommodating and allowed me to order a cumbe wrapped roll off the dinner menu. I definitely wish they had no rice rolls with rice or soy paper. I don't love cucumber wrapped rolls, as they fall apart. We also ordered the salmon roll and eel roll. Everything was very fresh and delicious. I would just recommend some no rice options. read more

We were excited to try Hinoki based on promising reviews and the Kinzo association but we left laughing in disbelief because of what a rip off the $85 Omakase was. Courses 1-3 were fine, nothing extraordinary but nothing terrible. Course 4, the Aka Tasting, is where everything went south. When you see the a la carte Aka Menu items there are 4 items, including things like salmon, yellowtail collar, black cod, and japanese mackerel. But we were served ... chicken skewers. While we realize the actual tasting item may vary from the menu, we expected something on par with the menu items. But whatever- we laughed about it because what else can you do. Unfortunately it kept going downhill from there. The next two courses were even more ridiculous. The soup was a very watered down Miso soup. I've had better tasting miso soup as a complimentary item than this. And the dessert served was ice cream Mochi like what you buy in the freezer aisle at HEB. I went to Hinoki today and ate their lunch special. It was awesome. Authentic and delicious! The sashimi and sushi was full of flavor and fresh. You can feel the chef's effort in the presentation and preparation - the wasabi is fresh made and the ginger tastes like it is made in-house too. The portion size is very generous - see my photos. The bento box will definitely fill you up. I also ordered the tempura. The shrimp tempura was excellent. The batter was light and cooked to perfection. Atmosphere and decor is great. My server Rachel took no hesitation into educating me more about each* menu item, extremely generous of her. I started with the Tanu, hand held fried rice. 10/10. The soft crunch from the rice, with the savory fresh tuna covered in their signature sauce(s) is indescribable. Followed by the salmon, nigiri. The chef personally handed off the plate, which made me feel very special. The precision of the beautifully portioned salmon and rice simply melts in your mouth, meanwhile the flavor gradually exploding like a firework finale. BEWARE! If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Service started out ok. Can't even blame the female server and host. The issue is the male sushi rollers behind the bar or whatever they're called. You can see in these pictures what was given to me and my mentee to eat as if we were dogs and not paying customers! We were already waiting for our food (only 2 sushi rolls btw) for almost 20 mins, just for the waitress to come by and tell us that it's going to take a lot longer for our food. I simply asked why because there were only 3 to 4 groups in the whole restaurant that evening. My understanding from her response was that the Caucasian group that came in AFTER us were ordering sashimi that I guess will take some time and skill and they'd rather work on their order. Mind you there were 4 sushi rollers behind the bar so of course I was confused... I asked how much longer it will take because I had to get my mentee back home. 3 to 5 mins later they brought us what you see in the photos. These don't look like anything I saw in the reviews before coming. I was mortified but didn't want to make a scene in front of my mentee who was starving btw. We ate, I paid and left. Regret ever stepping foot in this racist establishment and I'm utterly disgusted with them. I even held on to the menu to possibly order more after trying the first roll.
